A Division Grand Final
Ravens go Back to Back !!
Grand Final: Richmond Ravens vs. Parramatta Raptors
Ravens completed their dominant season with a hard fought 1-0 win over Raptors. Was a tight game with good chances for both teams. Daniel Wong with several fast breaks for Raptors, hitting the post once, squeezing one under the keeper but wide on another, unable to convert. The only goal coming from a defensive error from Raptor Sam Boer passing to an unmarked Raven Dane Hansen in the slot. The shot rebounding out to Aaron Dymond who slotted it home. 1-0 win to Ravens going back to back.

B Division Grand Final
Glenmore Park Druids Out Point Ice Devils !!
Grand Final: Glenmore Park Druids vs. Ice Devils by Matt Hellyer
In tonights B Division Grand Final, minor premiers Ice Devils stepped out keen to reverse the result of the Qualifying Final in a rematch with Glenmore Park DruidsB. With a plethora of strong and fast players, the challenge to repel their efforts was formidable. A decent crowd of supporters there for both sides only increased the intensity. Two early goals to DruidsBs Nick Colyer and Luke Jensen were a shock to everyone, including them. From then on the mandate was to maintain that lead. Close defensive marking and some stellar saves from retiring keeper Mitchell Burrett achieved that. Even multiple bites at the cherry for Ice Devil heavy hitters who collected rebounded shots couldnt get the ball past Mitch. Right side dives, left side jumps, nothing was getting through. A scare came when DruidsBs Aaron Parker got sent for two after a slashing incident against the boards, but the penalty expired without a change in score. The second half saw one final goal, again to Nick, to bring the game to 3-0. Thats how it stayed for the rest of the match, obscuring how close the game had actually been. A great way for DruidsB to finish the season!

C Division Grand Final
Dugongs Premiers at Last !!
Grand Final: Dugongs vs. Slip and Sliders by Scott 'Finally' Powell
After 3 successive defeats in grand finals, the Dugongs were hoping to break their duck against first season, first grand finalists the Slip 'n' Sliders. After a tight 1-0 loss to the Sliders, the Dugongs were going in as underdogs but were buoyed by their hard fought semi final victory earlier in the week against the ever competitive Knights. The Dugongs started with a bang, using their speed and anxienty over being 0 from 4 to dominate the opening minutes. Multiple forays to the Sliders goals were denied by brilliant keeping until Aaron was able to open the scoring after his initial shot was deflected into a Sliders boot, sending it skidding back into goals. The Dugongs doubled their lead minutes later when Blake cut past multiple defenders, passed to Nathan who shimmied around the last defender and slotted a neat shot past the keeper to give the Dugongs a 2-0 lead. The Sliders fought back almost immediately with a neat run of their own and a great shot over the keepers shoulders to bring the game back to a single goal lead. Late arrivals Mark and Larissa jumped on with fresh legs and put the Dugongs back into an attacking mindset. Joel made a last second shot, which was once again deflected into goals by an unfortunate defender, but was disallowed due to an error by the Dugongs claiming the goal for Mark and a sign on sheet error. 2-1 to the Dugongs at the break. With the Sliders fighting back, the Dugongs were hoping their erroroneously filled out scoresheet mishap would not come back to haunt them in the second half. Both sides opened up the half with breaks down the middle, the Sliders gaining an upper hand in posession but were unable to capitalise. The Dugongs defence held firm with Mikaela, Sarah and Elicia ensuring the Sliders crosses were quickly deflected from the centre. The Dugongs also unable to make further headway as the seconds ticked by. The Dugongs finally winning a grand final 2-1, their relief evident as the siren sounded. Thanks to the Sliders who were phenominal in making the final in their debut season.

D Division Grand Final
Wraith win another D Final
Grand Final: Glenmore Park Druids vs. Emu Plains Wraith by Matt Hellyer
Having meet and been defeated 1-0 only two weeks ago by DruidsC, Wraith entered tonights game with a fierce desire to reverse their past performance. Buoyed by an army of supporters (more than a dozen), the team took to the ice keen for an early lead. DruidsC, renowned for a solid defence, were again strong against the Wraith attack and no shots were able to breach the wall of players they presented. Instead DruidsC mounted some counter offensive fast breaks that saw Wraith defence scrambling to shut down. It all looked to unravel when Wraith were penalised, leaving them a player down, but much to their relief DruidsC were unable to capitalise on the opportunity. The half time siren sounded leaving both sides scoreless. The second half was entered with fresh determination to mark players well and look for backwards passes. A prolonged Wraith assault on goals was eventually rewarded when Captain Matt Hellyer was able to get a clear shot at a half open net, thanks to some successful keeper screening by Dave Belcher. From then on the battle was to maintain that lead with DruidsC fighting hard to balance the score board. A break in the final ten seconds left everyone on edge, but keeper Sarah Hellyer was able to collect the shot right as the final siren sounded. Congratulations Wraith on a second D division victory and thanks DruidsC for a friendly and well fought game.

C Division - Week 21 - Finals
Dugongs Bounce Back
Preliminary Final: Dugongs vs. Knights Who Say Broomball by Scott Powell
Long time combatants the Knights and Dugongs found themselves facing off a game earlier than previous seasons for the right to play against the Sliders on Saturday. With the previous and only other match occurring in the first round, it was a mystery to see which team would come out on top, the Dugongs had a torrid run of luck in finals when facing the Knights and were looking to break the hoodoo while the Knights wanted to maintain it. The game started with the regular exploratory breaks, testing the waters and making sure the ice did not have tricks up its sleeves. The Dugongs utilised their speed to open the scoring as Nathan took off from halfway dodged, ducked, dived and dodged again before sweeping the ball past the keeper. Not to be outdone, Josh retaliated within a minute weaving and slamming the ball past the Dugong dance to level up the scores. The game maintained a quick tempo, both teams looking for the advantage, but it was the Dugongs who were next to score when Scott flicked to Nathan who in turn found an open Joel who slotted in the Dugongs second, after the Knights keeper nearly pulled off an awesome save. I'm not sure when the Dugongs scored their third goal, it was around halftime, Aaron capping of a brilliant run from a Elicia-Nathan combo, wrong footing the keeper gracing the ball past the line. Knights were always in the hunt and only desperate defence from Dugongs putting their bodies on the line saw them denied. The Dugongs scored a fourth goal late in the second half after Scott hobbled along the wall, his flick pass pushed out by the keeper to Joel who flicked it straight back over the defence for his second for the night. Final score 4-1, but it could have been much much closer. Thanks to the Knights for a great hit out before the finals, it was great to finally break that hoodoo. Now on to the final!

A Division - Week 21 - Finals
OT Thriller for Preliminary Final
Preliminary Final: Werrington County Sonics vs. Richmond Ravens by Jo Hansen
The game of the season has been played. Sonics played Ravens for a spot in the grand final. Whenever these teams play, it is always a great game, and this was no exception, possibly the game of the season. The scoring opened with a beautiful show of team work by the Ravens boys. Dane carried the ball over the halfway line and passed to Peter to get round the first defender. Peter passed straight back to Dane, who drew the keeper before laying off to Aaron to shoot. Both teams created plenty of chances but solid defence kept the score at 1-nil until the last quarter. TIM brown picked off a ravens pass in his defensive half, carried the ball, drew the keeper and made the perfect pass for Ben to tap it in. At full time the score was one all. It took 1.5 minutes for ravens to score the first goal in over time, and another minute to get the second one. A nice push pass goal by Peter and a hand thing from Dane. TIM answered their goals with one of his own, with about 2 minutes to go. As the timer had not been stopped after the goals, the refs allowed a few extra seconds of play. As the clock counted down, ravens looked sure to take the game. UNTIL... Nekk minut TIM pulls a miracle out of his bag of tricks and flicks another ball into the net. The first five minutes of overtime wraps up with 2 goals to each team. Both teams had a chance in sudden death overtime but it was finished nicely when Jo outran TIM and smashed the ball over Chappo's shoulder into the top corner - bam. Ravens go through to the final.

B Division - Week 21 - Finals
Ice Devils Bounce Back
Preliminary Final: Ice Devils vs. Rhinos by Josh Burton
Tonight's encounter was the Grand Final Qualifier for B Grade between the Ice Devils and the Rhinos. The Winner of this match goes on, the loser is done for the season. With both teams accustomed to how each other plays, the pressure rose just a bit. The action early was all Rhinos, as used the pressure to get the first goal, lucky, but still counts. Not to be outdone, off the preceding face-off, Josh tapped the ball for an assist to Brett's game tying goal. The action was up and down the rink, but 1-1 at Half Time. The second half early, was all Ice Devils, as Brett finished a good counter attack move, and Mel finished off a good post play for a 3-1 lead. Rhinos scored to get the difference to 1, which lead to a nervous 10 minutes. The Rhinos tried their best, but couldn't get the game tying goal, with Ice Devils winning 3-2. The Ice Devils win, and take the 2nd spot in the Grand Final, and set up a rematch in the Grand Final with the Druids on Saturday evening.

D Division - Week 20 - Finals
Wraith into the D final vs Druids
Preliminary Final: Emu Plains Wraith vs. Journeymen by Matt Hellyer
Tonight Wraith faced off against Journeymen in a contest to claim a place in the D Division Grand Final against DruidsC. Both teams started off down a few players, with Journeymen the more undermanned of the two having no subs as the game commenced. Wraith maintained possession early in the first half but were unable to convert that to points on the scoreboard before the tide turned with the arrival of Tim Boyce for Journeymen. Then it was Journeymen who started to gain the upper hand with saves from the Wraith keeper the only thing denying them the lead. A breakaway from Wraith Captain Matt Hellyer was similarly shutdown by the Journeymen keeper. Two send offs, a high broom for Journeymen and a trip for Wraith couldnt break the deadlock and so the first half ended with a nil-all score line. A minute into the second half everything changed. A pass from Matt was received by Ben Hellyer, who got it away to Dave Belcher who put it in the back of the nets, scoring his first goal ever. Wraith maintained their one-nil lead for the next seven minutes, when a face off that left the ball to an unmarked Tim saw Journeymen equalise. The stakes were raised, and Wraith responded with some great intensity. After a plethora of attempts at goals, the Journeymens defence finally cracked when Nathan Hodge was rewarded with a goal with less than five minutes on the clock. The clincher came in the last thirty seconds, when Nathan got the ball to Sam Padgett who put it away, surprised as anyone that it had gone in. A valiant attempt to recover some of the deficit came from Tim in the final few seconds, but a wary Matt was able to prevent any further shots on goal leaving Wraith victorious 3-1 over Journeymen. Thanks for the great game.

Qualifying Final: Dugongs vs. Slip and Sliders
Slip and Sliders moved into the C grade grand final in their debut season with a 1-0 win over Dugongs. The only goal of the game coming after 14 minutes to Slip and Slider Josh Collimore, setup by Adrian Kilpatrick and Luke Simmonds. Slip and Sliders into the Saturday grand final, Dugongs get another chance vs Knights Who Say Broomball in the preliminary final.

A Division - Week 20 - Finals
Sonics Eliminate Rangers, Raptors Straight Through
Elimination Final: Werrington County Sonics vs. Penrith City Rangers
Rangers took the lead in the first period, a hard shot from out wide beating everybody. Sonics equalised in the second period a shot from Jason Wheeler and a redirection by Ben Robson nestling inside the far post. Both teams looking for the winner in the final minutes Sonics looking for sub in the final minute ( My fault calling Jeff off ) leading to a breakaway chance for Bryan Macklin with less than a minute left in the game. Bryan's shot beat the keeper but struck the post and away, no goal. In Overtime, no keeper, 4-4, Sonics won the majority of the faceoffs and maintained possession. The first goal to Sally Yabsley from Tim Brown and then a second scored by Jason Wheeler. Rangers did gain possession and almost immediately put it in the back of the net bringing them back within one goal. Best not to let them do that again and once getting possession Sonics made sure they didn't give it up until the buzzer had sounded. Sonics 3(1) vs Rangers 2(1)

Qualifying Final: Richmond Ravens vs. Parramatta Raptors
Ravens (1) v Raptors (2) in the A-Grade Qualifying Final. Ravens started well, denied only by some brilliant saves from Raptors Goal Keeper Damian Colyer. Raptors then forced the turnover through some strong forechecking. Louis Sultana found Sam Boer in the centre, whose shot was fumbled by the Ravens keeper. Louis Sultana was able to flick the loose ball over the keepers head. 1-0 HT. The second half and both teams had their chances but couldnt convert. Ravens pulled the keeper with 3 minutes remaining but Raptors held on. Raptors straight through to the Grand Final. Raptors 1-0.

B Division - Week 20 - Finals
Ice Devils Upset, Tigers Eliminated
Elimination Final: Tigers vs. Rhinos
With the Druids through, the Rhinos (4th) faced off against the Tigers (3rd) to decide who would stay alive in B Division to play the Ice Devils. There has been a history of low scoring encounters between these teams this season and the trend looked set to continue in the elimination final. The scoreline remained 0-0 at the end of the first period. The Rhinos' Luke Simmonds opened up the scoring early in the second period. After receiving a ball just inside halfway, he raced away to win a one-on-one with Tigers keeper Kevin Chen, flicking the ball into the top-left corner of the goal.\ The goal was a relief for the Rhinos but they had to stay switched on. Ryan Findlayson and Pete Yabsley threatened whenever they had the ball and the Rhinos were desperate to shut down their plays. Ryan looked to be away down centre-ice later in the second period but was stopped in a clash with Kerrianne Rigby. Despite this, play continued and the Rhinos held on to win 1-0. They look forward to their next match against the Ice Devils.

Qualifying Final: Glenmore Park Druids vs. Ice Devils
Tonight marked the first game of B division finals for the season, with clear minor premiers Ice Devils taking on Glenmore Park Druids, who scraped into second position in the main round after a two-to-one head-to-head win count over equally placed Tigers and only one point ahead of Rhinos. Despite many players playing back to back games, a fearsome battle between the two teams ensued, with both keen for an early lead. Some great saves from keeper Mitchell Burrett kept DruidsB in the game, especially after captain Damian Colyer got sent for steam rolling one of the opposition on a break away. Ice Devils keeper Anke Vermeulen similarly got a good workout, at one point making a face cage save to keep the ball out of the goal. It wasnt until part way through the second half that the deadlock was broken. A ball from Matt Hellyer was collected by Alana Bracken who looked to be passing but suddenly flicked the ball backwards between her legs, several defenders legs and sticks and finally the keepers too. An unexpected move which in this case was pulled off. If anything, that increased the intensity of the game, with Ice Devils energised to equalise the score line. There was no shortage of break aways from Devils speedy players to that end, but their efforts were ultimately fruitless. A second goal to DruidsB in the last few minutes sealed their victory, after a long switch from Matt Hellyer was collected by Joel Robson who zipped off with it down to the corner (or where one would be if the rink was rectangular) and then managed to slip it out past a defender to Alana who was completely unmarked in front of the nets and was able to finish it off with a nice shot into the back of the nets. Final score 2-1 to DruidsB, which automatically puts them into the B Division Grand Final.
