Butchers beat Ravens to grab 2nd
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Penrith City Rangers by Saxon Hooper
With the minor premiership sewn up, Druids were looking for a good result to carry into the finals after the 3-1 loss to Butchers the previous week. The good result came for Druids when Linda Findlayson directed an Alyson CamacBenson pass into the top corner. The goal enough to secure the win for Druids. Druids now waited to see who they played next week. Both teams in the next game needed to win to grab 2nd place and the vital chance to go straight into the grand final.

Richmond Ravens vs. Blacktown Butchers by Louis Sultan
The final game of the A-Grade season with both the Butchers and Ravens teams playing excellent broomball to already be guaranteed a finals spot. The winner of this match would gain second spot and earn that much wanted second chance or the opportunity for the week off. Both teams struggled to gain the ascendancy in the early stages of the game. Peter Yabsley scored the first goal with a nice left hand thingy to sweep the ball past the keeper. 1-0 halftime. Second half saw Ravens push harder to gain that equalizer which opened up the game for the Butchers. The Butchers second goal soon after with Louis Sultana sweeping the ball into the back of the net. The Butchers held on to win the game and grab second spot. Great form heading into the finals series. Fulltime Butchers 2-0.

What a close Season !!
The Penguins vs. Huskies
The Penguins will take a huge confidence boost from defeating minor premiers Huskies 2-0 in their last game of the season. The win also secured the Penuins a finals spot. Still though with two games to go in the night, they wouldnt know where.

DruidsB vs. Team IceBucket
A win was a must for both teams given how tight the table was. A single goal to Buckets Liam Golding gave the win to Team IceBucket. The loss for Druids leaving them on 36 points, and the win putting IceBucket on 34.

SonicsB vs. Raptors by Louis Sultana
The Raptors and Sonics B were just two of about six teams within 2 points of each other and fighting for the last three final spots. Sonics had a strong lineup up against a Raptors team with many of its stars unavailable due to injury or work commitments. Still, the Raptors fought hard, shutting down each of the Sonics raids. 0-0 halftime. Second half saw Davin Harvey open the score sheet with a beautiful long range goal. Raptors continued with another 2 quick goals, both to Marc Kuipers. Final Score 3-0 to the Raptors. A lot of heart showed by the Raptors team and hopefully enough to get the Raptors into the final four and compete in the final series. They certainly deserve it.
Editors Note: The win took Raptors to 36 points and into 3rd place. The loss for Sonics left them on 34 points with Team Icebucket, with both teams just missing the finals.

Buzz Bites the Dust
Unfortunately due to lack of consistent numbers Buzz have had to drop out of the C grade competition. This means that there has been a forced draw change. Please check the draw and let your team mates know that it has changed. Dont forget that rego is due this week, next week unregistered players will not be allowed to play. $45 Adults, $35 Students, pensioners, u18 etc.. C grade needs new teams.. If you know some people that might be interested get them keen for next season. Would ideally want 4 new C teams. So get recruiting.

Ravens Finally go Down
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Richmond Ravens by Saxon Hooper
Druids came into this game looking to knock off the undefeated Ravens, their cause boosted by Ravens missing Dane Hansen (OS), Craig Horsley (MIA) and Krys Lockhart (Hamstring). Despite beinig short Ravens took it Druids, the pressure causing Druids into handling errors, allowing Ravens fast breaks. Tightening up control Druids began to dominate posession as the pace of the game took it's toll on the depleted Ravens. Still though no goals at half time. 0-0. Early in the 2nd half a break out goal to Nathan Lawler gave Druids the lead. Despite Druids posession domination, Ravens still created some good chances, great saves and a cool head by Druid's defender Tim Ollerton repelled the attacks. Finally with only 4 minutes on the clock, Nathan Lawler slotted a pass to Saxon Hooper who chopped a hand thingy past the Raven's keeper. 2-0 final result to Druids.

Werrington County Sonics vs. Blacktown Butchers by Louis Sultana
Of late, matches between these two teams have been fiery with both sides putting in that little bit more effort. Each team used different strategies, Sonics relying on fast breaks whereas the Butchers played a very structured game. Neither strategy looked like a winner as both teams failed to get the ball in the back of the net. With about twenty seconds to play in the first half, the butchers went on one last attack. From deep in their own half, the Butchers used some quick passing to get over the centre line. From there, Louis Sultana took a left handed shot, a bungle by the keeper allowed Bec Davis to score with seconds remaining. Halftime: 1-0 Butchers. The second half saw much of the same. The next goal mirrored the first, this time a keeper error allowed the Sonics to equalise. Butchers continued to press with their structured attack and a mountain of possession soon led to their second goal with Davin Harvey sending the ball to the top corner of the goal, final pass coming from Lauren Goulden. From there, the Butchers held on to secure a well deserved victory. Fulltime: 2-1 Butchers.

Huskies and Raptors Out in Front
Raptors vs. SonicsB by Davin Harvey
First game for the night, Raptors were looking a little short on female players and Sonics were without a couple of their guys. For the Raptors, the Vost girls took on the challenge, stepped up to the plate and put in an another amazing effort. Martin got the scoring under way early in the first half, picking up a loose ball in front of goals and flicking it high into the back of the net. Raptors continued to hold strong possession for the first half, good passing creating many more opportunities and only some quick reflexes from the Sonics keeper keeping the scoreline close. Congrats to Penny scoring her first goal in B grade, the opportunity coming late in the first half, when sister Emma got a good hard shot in, the keeper made the save but Penny was waiting, perfectly positioned in the slot for the loose ball and put it straight in the back of the net. With 3mins to go the scoreline blew out, from the face off Marc Kuipers caught a napping Cameron Parkes out, taking the ball clean from him then beat the last line of defence and powered his first of 2 goals home. His second coming only seconds later when Marc again got through the lax defense from the face off and nailed home his 2nd. Raptors 4-0 into the half and hadn't seen a lead like this before. 2nd half and Sonics came out looking for an answer. Throughout the half they held the more possession and put a mountain of pressure on the Raptors goal. Emma Vost had a superb stint in goals, no fear shown turning away the likes of Peter Yabsley with confident ease. Aaron Parker again holding the Raptors defense together, also broke down a lot of the Sonics opportunities. Amidst all the pressure on the Raptors, Marc Kuipers involved again led a 2-1 break away, drew the last defender and put Davin Harvey 1-1 with the keeper. A low first time sweep finding its way through the keeper's legs to the back of the net. 5-0 and that was the nail in the coffin for Sonics. A great effort from the Raptors again this week, looking forward to next week.....Sorry, umm...5 weeks Monday when Raptors get their next run. Fans, get your tickets early its bound to be a sell out. (Editors Note: Tickets $5 pay Saxon next time you see him).

DruidsB vs. Team IceBucket by Liam Golding
It was a long time between drinks for TIB, not having played for about three weeks, and true to this years form, we had no subs, save for Bry and me, which didn't help anyone else. Though as it turned out, the case was the same for the enemy; their only subing was between Damo and Nathan. Im not sure if the first goal counts as the quickest ever, because we were a bit slow in getting to the drop, but anyway, Damo won it off me, pushed it behind me into space, where we didn't get a proper hold of the ball, before he grabbed it up and shot from the centre of the office into the bottom right corner of the net. One-nil after about six seconds of play. We settled down somewhat after that into some good midfield play, though it's true to say that they had the majority of play in our half. I'm not sure of the order in which it occured, but I think it was as such; Damo had another disallowed - his shot/cross went all the way into the goal, so thank you ranked A grader rule. Then Russell fired in one of his long range shots that may or may not have taken a deflection, but scuttled its way into the bottom corner of their goal, so we went into the break evens at one counted goal a piece. The second half saw them score first again, (though not as quickly as the first thank god!) It was definately Nathen, probably from one of his long range blasts that put them up two to one. At least that's what negated his next shot. Their screeners stopped our keeper getting to it. That or the deflection off our defender, so either way a second no goal. I was quite pleased with our effort, because no-one gave up, and as Bry said no-one looked tired, (though apparently they were.) We then had a couple of penalties against us. One for a high stick, then after that Dave, (again,) for grabbing the ball when he lost his stick. Is that really a two minute penalty!!!
(Editors Note: Yes!!.. Rule 54 FORBIDDEN FREEZING OF THE BALL, Definition: Any player, who DELIBERATELY freezes, lifts carries or closes their hand over the ball. Sanction: Minor penalty)
Anyway, we seemed to have some break chances when they pushed up, but I suck so no conversion. Anyway, it must have been with only a minute or two to go that Dave made up for his penalties, when I got on a break, and somehow I actually got the pass to him to fire into the net, forcing overtime. Now TIB have had two overtime games this season, the last of which was a very short affair. This time was really competitive, it went back and forth a bit, still a lot of midfield flow though. In the end I got a mini break, with just enough room to get around the side of Nathan, and realised he was last defender, so I actually got one from long range. End game. Party for TIB getting their first win of this season. Well done chaps.
Jolly good show old boys. and girls.
Other British isms too.
'cause they're funny.
Well I think so! Ü
You know you love it.
PS. Look out Penguins. We will murder you all next week. And then chop you up into lots of little pieces, and feed you to the fishes, which John West will capture and then we will eat you for dinner. All excpet me because I never eat dinner before a game because I don't wanna throw up. Oh, and I hate all seafood. It is such evil poison. But fear us in the extreme regardless!

Penguins vs. Huskies not by any Huskies
Huskies too slack to write up their great 5-1 win over last 3 seasons premiers The Penguins. Hat trick to Tim Harvey and singles to Andrew Chapman and Luke Simmonds gave Huskies their 5 goals. Sara Kristof chipped in with a goal for The Penguins.

Clownz Beaten !!
Devil Knights vs. Titans by Scott Powell
Puddle free ice (FINALLY) created the opportunity for a fast game, with both sides racing away to strong start, with little to show for it. Strong periods of defence from both sides was finally broken when Titans Captain Rusty was able to find the back of the net from a brilliant pass from Dave (who has been playing way too many video games by the look of the pass) , 2 minutes before halftime. The second half was more of the same, after some continuous forward pressure, AC Scott scored a long-range goal, and Dave put the game beyond doubt with a breakaway goal a few minutes later. Penalties went the Titans Way, including a spectacular collision involving Dave which saw him go base over apex and end up facing the direction he came from. A well fought match where some great defensive and attacking work from Kathy, Skye and Nissa combined with great forward pressure gave the Titans a 3-0 victory.

Carney Clownz vs. Snow Cones
Snow Cones knocked off the undefeated clownz 2-1.

Clownz and Snow Cones Go at It !!
Titans vs. Devil Knights by Bec Collier & Cat McDonald
Game started out with a fairly even match up, the 2 teams have not faced off against eachother before tonight. Ice was of course overly slipery in true first c grade game of the night style. Devil Knights with only one sub and remembering the new rules of only one b-grader on the ice at a time left the rest of the team without subs for most of the first half. Both teams were hungry for the ball and put on a good show but noone was able to follow through for the goal. Until Jeff was finally able to make a conversion from one of the multiple clear runs he had down the rafters. Game was tight from here on in with Titans looking to even the score, they thought they had managed this by hitting the back of the net but much to the relief of the Devils players goal was disallowed due to high stick. Only minutes later newbie devil Nathan having not paid attention to earlier penalties was sent off for a high stick of his own. Even with the 1 player advantages neither team could take it to the nets again, leaving final scre 1-0 to the devilknights, great game played by all, will be tough competition for the rest of the season.

Carney Clowns vs. Snow Cones by Rebecca Davis
Coming up to this game snow cones were determined to give us a run for our money and they did. This was a tough game for both teams with equal posession and fast breaks. Snow cones opened the scoring with a 1 on 1 with the goalie. Carneys equaling the score through a swift pass from conan to josh who converted nicely. The score remained even till the last 5 minutes when matt got a great shot from the side sending the ball straight to the back of the net. Snow cones maintained their great defence leaving the final score 2-1 Carneys.

Crimson Furies eek out the win !
Silver Snipers vs. Crimson Furies
Crimson Furies managaged two goals in the first half to defeat Silver Snipers by 2-0 in the opening womens match of the season. Seven minutes in Lisa Price scored for the Furies with assists from Chrissy O'Brien and Alyson Camac-Benson. Just 3 minutes later the Furies doubled their lead with a goal to Bec Davis. 2nd half saw more defence for Furies but they held out Snipers. 2-0 Crimson Furies.

Mens Division - Week 1
Warriors get some Payback
Terminators vs. Warriors
First game of the new season saw Terminators and Warriors go to battle. As with most of last season Termninators were without team captain Tim Brown. Warriors settled first and maintend some attacking pressure.. good defence and some keeping kept them out. Finally after 19 minutes of play Tim Harvey making his mens debut for Warriors scrambled one in. 1-0 half time warriors. Terminators best chances came from the break aways in the 2nd half however the warrior defence and keeper blocked all shots. Warriors were keeping on with their structured attack and it was Josh Smith who reaped the results with a goal in the 11th minute of the half. 2-0 Warriors. Terminators really lifted the tempo and were unluck not to score on a number of occassions in the dieing minutes. Final score 2-0 to warriors.

Ticklers vs. Silver Stench
Not really too much to write about a goaless draw so will just go through the penalties as there were many. Just 4 minutes into the game Scott Murry in goals for the Stench stepped out and pushed Tickler's screener Shannan Henitz to the ground, 2 minutes inteferemce, unfortunately Josh Smith had to sit the penalty for Muz. Five minutes later Josh Smith had to sit his own penalty as he couldnt resist waving his stick at a high ball. Just 3 minutes into the 2nd half Stenches Sammy Boer laid down a trip and spent 2 in the bin. Four minutes later Tickler Damian Colyer pulled Dane Hansen to the ground and got 2 for holding. Within in a minute Marc Kupiers put on a trip and the Ticklers were down 2 players, Stench players failing to capitalise on their 5-3 advantage. Then with 3 minutes to go Liam Golding put Ticklers a man short as he high sticked. Even with all those penalties the score remained 0-0.

B Division - Week 6
Huskies Mush On
Huskies vs. Tigers
Huskies seem to be the team to beat this season mushing their way past Tigers by 5-2. In fairness to Tigers two late Huskie goals blew out the score line. For Huskies Josh Smith got a double and Andrew Chapman scored 1 goal and had 3 miss hit shots turn into assists. Luke Simmonds and Tim HArvey were the other goal scorers for Huskies. Ryan Findlasyon had a goal and an assist. Ben Irmisch scored a goal for Tigers assisted by "his wife to be this weekend" Leanne Sadler (hope you guys have a great day). Final score 5-2 Huskies over Tigers.

Raptors vs. Team IceBucket by Davin "Where is my Hair?" Harvey
Graveyard shift, Raptors with close to a full squad and Ice Buckets I'm sure had 2. Welcome back to Bec Cashel, another of the Raptors' Supermums, making her return Monday night. Game started out a little messy, both teams needing the time to get the match sticks in under the eyelids. Ice Buckets had the better first half pouring on the pressure and keeping Raptors in their defensive half. When Josh Newell went early for a High Stick call and Ice Buckets already had their momentum going, it was a nervous time. Raptors did great though securing the ball in their half and chewed up the time til they were back to full strength. Raptors were first on the board, late in the half when some good passing up top from Emma Vost and Josh Newell found an open Davin Harvey. Shot was taken low and hard from the blue line and found its way into the back of the net, 1-0 Raptors and this remained unchanged into the half. Message out the Raptors camp at half time was simple, support one another on and off the ball, and man up in defense. All advice taken on board and Raptors went out and did just that. 2nd half started and it was raining opportunities for Raptors to take the lead further. Marc Kuipers, battling both the flu and Samitis got the buffer goal Raptors were looking for 5mins into the 2nd half. From there, Ice Buckets lifted again and created many fast break opportunities, some good goal keeping pressure ensured the score board would remain as it was, cos no one else was going to catch Liam. Highlight of the 2nd half, Louis Sultana looking for the sub, chased down a charging Bryan Macklin who broke away alone from the red line. Louis hunted Bryan down from the far side wall and dove in front of the shot, taking the ball and Bryan's stick to the body, shutting down the opportunity. Loved it!! I think even Bryan was impressed with that. Score remained unchanged as the final whistle sounded, and another clean sheet for the Raptors is what I like to see. Looking forward to next week.

Clownz Look to be the Team to Beat !!
Titans vs. Carney Clownz by Bec Davis & Luke Simmonds (Lukecca ?)
The first game of the night at the Penrith Water Palace started off slowly as everyone wasn’t expecting to need their floaties. A good effort from both teams in keeping their heads above water for the entire first half. Although there were a couple of nice rough patches down the middle to make sure those new kit shoes get worn in real quick. Goal scoring started early with Russell Gregory from the titans pushing one past the keeper from close range with 3 mins gone in the first half. Carneys replied not long after with new recruit Andrew placing a nice low shot to the far post after a good break out wide. Some quick passing up the middle saw Cam Parkes knotch up another goal for the Clowns. A penalty against the Titans late in the first half for tripping gave Carney’s a few more chances but none were converted. Carney’s up 2-1 at half time. After the slow saturated ice dried up a little, the second half quickened up a bit. A few fast breaks from both teams. Carneys added 2 more goals through Morgan & Josh, however Titans played strong and had a few more chances in the second half. Unlucky not to score only for some good Carneys defence. Overall it was an interesting game of water polo… er… broomball with Carneys turning out convincing winners in the end 4-1.

Buzz vs. Snow Cones by Marc Kuipers
Marc scored 2 goals, Buzz scored 1, Snow Cones open with a win 2-1 over Buzz.

Sonics Gallant in Defeat as Ravens go undefeated in Round 1
Blacktown Butchers vs. Penrith City Rangers by Davin Harvey
First game Monday night saw the fast paced Rangers take on the explosively dynamic Butchers....Lacking somewhat in numbers. Game started a little rushed from both teams, unnecessary pressure on themselves causing easy turn overs in middle-ice. When the two teams did finally settle down and get their game together it was the Butchers who were pressing hard on the Rangers defence and came away with a good scrambling goal mid way through the half. Martin Sultana getting the pass to an open Andrew Chapman at the top, got the low hard shot in and Bec Davis perfectly positioned in the slot picked up the defenders's deflection and put it straight into the back of the net. Butchers continued strong pressure throughout the half wanting the ball that little more, however down on numbers fatigue was catching up. Message at the break was to keep the lead and tighten up the gaps in D. Well, while we didn't necessarily tighten up in D, the Butchers did hold onto their clean sheet. With a lot of the possession in the 2nd half it was only a matter of time before another goal came, this time Louis Sultana putting away a great shot from distance, a little deflection from the defender certainly not helping the keeper's chances of saving that one. Final score 2-0 in another fast paced affair that kept the fans on the edge of their seat. Special mention to Peter Yabsley who despite spending most of the time off his feet thanks to his new shoes put in a great defensive effort and kept the Butchers attack pressing forward for the win. Think he had a few comments to make about the shoes during the game as well, don't see Forest Ice picking any of them up for their advertising campaigns tho. Look forward to next week.

Richmond Ravens vs. Werrington County Sonics by Sam Boer
Ravens were quietly confident going in to this game being undefeated after three games, and playing a Sonics sans John Skiadas, Scott Murray, Tim Brown and Kerry Baxter. The first half was thus a rude shock as Ravens spent most of the time scrambling to cover breakaways from the tireless Sonics, playing with no subs. Led by Jason Wheeler, Sonics had the best chances of the half, but were unable to score. The Ravens still struggled to get their passing game together in the first part of the second half, and it looked more possible that an upset was on the cards. Sonics just needed to deliver the finishing blow, but seemed to lack the firepower to convert their opportunities. The Ravens started to play with more cohesion during the dying minutes of regulation, and had a couple of good chances, but the keeping was up to the job. Nil all at full time. One good chance each in overtime in the first minute, and then it settled into more of a cat and mouse affair. Then a stroke of genius from Sally Yabsley, not ten seconds on the ice from the penalty box, who spotted the open net and flicked with pin point accuracy to get the job done by Ravens. Sonics stoic in defeat, in what could well have been an upset worthy of entering the annals of broomball folklore.

B Division - Week 5
Huskies Kick the "Ice" Bucket
The Penguins vs. Tigers by James Kristof
Penguins for the second week in a row were struck heavily by injury and work, Tim Roffey with broken fingers, Sara Roffey with mystery illness, Troy Viney was getting high...ok, he was flying a plane, but I like my way of saying it better, and Ben Roffey was also working. So it was that Penguins fielded only enough players to cover the ice against a full-strength Tigers outfit that has shown competitive form in the first part of the season. The game was tight all the way through, Tigers having the best of the play in the first half, only being denied by some inspired keeping from Shannan Heinitz on several occasions, which included him heading the ball over the crossbar and subsequently knocking the goals right over. 0-0 at half time. Penguins new players struggled at times, receiving 3 separate penalties during the game, however the Penguins held strong and broke the deadlock midway through the second half after Kerryn Lawler scored her second in as many games for the Penguins. The game stayed tight until the end, when with 10 seconds to go a controversial decision was made after the Tigers looked as if they may have scored, however the referees deemed that the ball came off the outside of the crossbar, not the inside, and back out of the goal mouth again, giving Penguins a very tight 1-0 win over a Tigers team that are proving to be a force to be reckoned with this season.

Huskies vs. Team IceBucket by Gemma ButlerFleming
With an average player age older than any other B-Grade team, and two mums returning fresh from maternity leave, Huskies looked to have the experience, but perhaps not the legs, to take on Team Ice Bucket. It didn't take long for the Huskies to dominate possession. In just over seven minutes, Luke Simmonds passed to Josh Smith who walloped the ball into the back of the net to open the scoring. Five minutes later Tim "Give me the scraps and I'll cook you a goal" Harvey cleaned up the scraps from some Ice Bucket fumbles and cooked up another goal for Huskies on about his seventy-fourth attempt in two seconds. The Huskies were looking strong coming into the end of the first half when Josh Smith passed to Tim Harvey for another goal with only 10 seconds on the clock, much to the frustration of the Ice Bucket defence. In the second half, Ice Bucket's Liam Golding came out hard, aiming for a breakaway goal. His speed was too much for the Huskies defence and he was able to put a swift goal away just four minutes in. Three minutes later and Huskies regained their stride when Luke Simmonds scored with a solo effort. With nine minutes left, Jason "Shakin" Hall added himself to the scorecard with a cracking shot finding its way past two Ice Bucket defenders. Tim "Show me the stats" Harvey scored his hat trick from a Luke Simmonds pass with three minutes left in the game. Huskies maintained good possession for the rest of the game, the final result 6-1. Special mention should be made of super goalie, Amy Ward. In only her second game back since having a baby, Amy was fearless in goals, shutting down some great shots and showing no signs of weakness. Grrr.

Huskies vs. Team IceBucket by Jason Hall
It was always going to be hard for an undermanned Ice Buckets coming up against a Huskies team in top form. But they came out confident and with a couple of speedsters in the side it looked like we could be in for a good game. Opening quarter of the game was tight. Huskies probably with a little more possession, but defiantly not having it all there own way. This broke at the 13 minute mark with Tim Harvey opening up his account. This seemed to change the flow of the game with Huskies quickly getting another couple of goals to go in 3 - 0 at half time. Second half started well for the Ice buckets. They regrouped well and started using the speed men to good effect on the counter attack. Liam was especially damaging. Going deep into Huskies territory regularly and opening the scoring for the second half with a goal for the Ice Buckets. This increased pressure was hard to maintain though and as the Ice Buckets started to tire the Huskies dominated possession again. Tim getting another couple of goals to take his total to three and Jason Hall getting 1 as well. Full time Huskies win 6 - 1. Question is whether the Huskies can maintain this form through the season

C Division - Week 1
C Grade is GO !!
Titans vs. Buzz by Scott Powell
The opening foray of the C Grade season was a never ceasing back and forth battle, with both the Titans and Buzz dominating periods of the scoreless first half. Very few opportunities presented themselves to either side, with outstanding defence keeping the game fast and tight. The Second half was a completely different story, and after a few fast breaks into their attacking half the Titans scored the first goal of the season through 2nd game rookie Nathan Fielding . Further attacking presence led to a blistering Goal from the Blue line by “il Capitan” Rusty. Buzz surged with a counter-attack, missing their first few shots, but scoring a runaway goal. A second Buzz goal was disallowed after it was scored off the boot, and the momentum shifted back to the Titans, who set up camp in their attacking half thanks to continuous forward pressure from Dave De Gruyter, Skye Blakeney and Nissa Jones , and great defence from Kathy Andrew, Scott Powell and Russell in the back. The pressure led to another goal, this one to Dave as he smashed in a shot that sounded as if it was going to break the back post. The last few minutes saw both sides going on the all out attack, but with neither side converting, the Titans finished the victors 3-1 in a well fought game.

Carney Clownz vs. Devil Knights by Bec Davis
First game of the season and both teams played well. Carneys opened the goal scoring with Bec Davis shortly followed by Cam Parkes in the first 10mins. Devil knights focused more on their defence and brought a stand still to the scoreboard for the remainder of the first half leaving the score 2-0. Carneys defended well giving Devil Knights little to no chance of having a shot at goal. Some close calls but thanks to some good saves by our fill in Karen Bell there was no chance for the Knights to add to the points. Scoring continued with Matt Hellyer and Josh Burton from Carneys making the final score 4-0.

Newcastle Broomball
45+ Turn up in Newcastle
Last thursday a group of us from Penrith went up to check out Newcastle Broomball. We were told they have 4 teams, ages ranging from 12-50+ and they would like us to run a coaching clinic and play a game or two. 4 teams, I expected 20-25 maybe, plus our 12 or so.. making it a pretty good size session to run. When we got there, the players just kept showing up.. was awesome as at least 45 local players showed. We ran a general clinic covering passing, shooting and ball control, which the Newcastle players took to very well. After the training we played two 1/2 games vs their white team made up of young guys in their teens and then the green team. Older but much wiser guys :) Everyone had a heap of fun and the night was a huge success. Thanks to the Newcastle guys for their hospitality (especially the beer afterwards.. hmm beer) and thanks to the guys from Penrith who made the long haul to help out (Tracy, Tim, Kerry, Nathan, Amanda, Dane, Jo, Peter, Lauren, Sam and Karen). With luck we will see the Newcastle team down to make their debut in the 2008 Aussie National Championships in April.

A Division - Week 4
Sonics on the Board
Penrith City Rangers vs. Werrington County Sonics by Jason Wheeler
A long long time ago in an ice rink far far away from civilisation, two superpowers in the world (galaxy, universe, whatever) of broomball laid down the gauntlet. Not because they were looking for a challenge but because they realised that gauntlets were not actually approved by the Emperor of Broomball. Plenty of spite exists between these teams, harking back to when Sonics were forced to sit in the back of the bus. But Rangers always had it worse, often being forced to push the bus and still having to pay full fare.. c'mon! Prior to the battle, both teams were separated to prevent any information leaks. In the Red corner stood (and sat) the Rebel Alliance also known as The Rangers led by their fearless captain, Captain Running Nose. In the beige corner stood the Amazingly Cool and Beautiful (but surprisingly modest) People aka The Sonics led by Sir Digby Chicken Caesar. Sonics had put years of planning into this 'battle royale' (with cheese). Sonics traversed the globe to collect information on the Rebel Alliance, Ceez Kim returned to the homeland of Sonic on a reconnaissance mission but she can't reveal which part she went to 'whoa! It was all a blur man.' Much was learnt. This was a match worthy of a final, but of course that was last season in which the Sonics emerged triumphant by two stellar goals to nothing (not even close). The Rebel Alliance should have learnt their lesson and stayed down, but as testament to their never-say-die, never-say-hi, and never-say-ni spirit, they returned to tackle Goliath, steal his slingshot and spread awful rumours about his hygiene (he's a giant, what do you expect). Sonics dumped their dismal form from the outset causing headaches for the Rangers defence. Rangers made more breaks but failed to take advantage of superior possession. Sonics lost a man in battle, Paul Stockbridge, we salute you, please come back real soon. A minute or two before half-time Sonics mounted a strong counter-attack with Tim Brown running into space, the pass found him with enough time to wind up and obliterate the back of the net. Sonics 1-0 at half-time. Sonics continued to play an expansive game but worked hard to maintain possession and field position. Rangers had plenty of strike power but failed to mount much pressure despite their clever switches and decoy running. With Sonics beginning to break a sweat, Tim Brown fired in a flat pass to the back post but caught a deflection on the way which spun and bobbled away from the despairing keeper. Sonics 2-0. Rangers continued to press hard but came up empty handed despite some solid opportunities. Sonics added the first notch to their bedpost in defence of their title and Rangers can keep be confident that their fortunes will start to improve. Final score- Sir Digby Chicken Caesar 2 def Rebel Alliance 0.

Blacktown Butchers vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
The score line was only 1-0 but this was a great game. Both teams really came to play and it was a game worthy of a final. Forecheck pressure, solid defence and creative attack kept every player on their toes and in the game. Eventually a single goal 10 minutes into the 2nd half decided the game. Druids moving the ball around the edge of Butchers defence had Nathan Lawler shooting the ball into the slot. The resulting scuffle and scramble in front of the net saw Druids Canadian import Amanda Smith poke the ball home. 1-0 win for Druids.

B Division - Week 4
Raptors get the Cash over Tigers !!
The Penguins vs. Druids B by Saxon Hooper
Unfortunately both teams had huge player shortages for this game. However it still turned out to be a good game despite this. Druids B were on the scoreboard first with Nathan Lawler slotting one home just six minutes into the game. The Penguins began to have players arrive and started to turn the tables creating good pressure and shots on goal. Just five minutes into the second half and slightly against the run of play, Saxon Hooper shot a low one past the keeper to give Druids a 2-0 lead. The Penguins never gave up and with 3 minutes on the clock Nathan Lawler's sister Kerryn scored for Penguins setting up a tense finish. Druids held out Penguins and secured the important win vs last seasons (and the 2 before aswell) premiers.

Raptors vs. Tigers by Davin Harvey
An hour before game time and there’s talk of no female Raptors making the game. After much debate from the powers to be we still were without any females. Then 10 minutes before the game I get a little vibration reading the words the Raptors needed to hear, Penny and Emma were on their way. Come game time, the Raptors were close to full strength missing only one as expected and were keen to get on with the game. It was the Tigers however who started with possession, getting into the Raptors half and holding possession for a little time. Quickly broken down the Raptors began their charge putting enormous pressure on the keeper and the Tigers defence, unlucky not to come away with a quick goal. Raptors continued to press the Tigers defence and bagged there first goal 5 minutes in when a hard pass into the area deflected off Marc Kuipers and into the net. A little uncertainty from the Tigers as to the legitimacy of the goal, but 1-0 to the Raptors. The pressure continued throughout the half, in attack there was plenty of support and some great passes creating plenty of scoring opportunities. The fore-checking was also working well, making it quite difficult for the Tigers to get out of their half. The game was hard and fast from the Raptors until the half and there was a little concern if we could keep this pressure up for the whole game. 2nd half proved without a doubt we could continue the pressure needed to secure victory. Tigers ramped up their want for the ball and a tying goal, however their hard work came undone when Ben Bell was sent to the box, 2mins for Roughing. Louis Sultana converted late in the Power Play when Josh Newell got a ball in and Louis put away a good hard shot. With 10 minutes remaining in the half Tigers did all they could to get back in it but were shut out, Raptors providing a great attacking game and covering well in defence to close out any Tigers opportunities. To the Raptors femmes, once again an amazing effort with no subs, love your work. Look forward to next week.

A Division - Week 3
Ravens go to 3 and 0 !!
Blacktown Butchers vs. Richmond Ravens by Sam Boer
The game started tight with both teams holding possesion well, however attacking opportunities were limited. A shot by Sam Boer off the cross bar was followed by a couple of chances to the Butchers, repelled by the keeper. Nil all at half time. In the second half the Butchers were finding it easier to break out and began to put more concerted pressure on the defence of the Ravens. However the Ravens scored first - a nice pass from Craig Horsley touched in beautifully by Dane Hansen with a defender on him. Butchers turned it up a notch for the last ten minutes, and had the Ravens "D" in sixes and sevens for a while but were unable to convert. A nice angled chip from Louis Sultana behind a sprawling keeper was desperately scrambled off the line. Despite a frantic last two minutes in attack, time ran out for the Butchers - the Ravens winning their third straight one nil.

Penrith City Rangers vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Rangers were implementing their new top secret game plan vs Druids. However somehow the plans were leaked (maybe from a Rangers player) to Druids captain Saxon Hooper who implemented counters. Unfortunately fo Druids the game started 3 minutes early and not all their players were there and the initial 5 minutes were spent covering as best they could before the rest of the team made the ice. Despite the new plans, the leaked documents, expansive counters the game went goaless. 0-0 full time. OT had like the game was also goaless. 0-0 draw for Rangers and Druids.

Sonics B experience PAIN !!
Tigers vs. Team IceBucket by Sally Yabsley
G'day all Tigers fan's. What a nail bitting game we had. The man himself Ryan Findlayson scored early to put the tigers in front. This proved to be a problem as Ryan used up his goal and had a few good runs but didn't have the support to convert. The ice Bucket's Liam supported by Lisa soon drew the game. on the game went with lot's of near misses, blocked shots and the like. Back and forth to and frow till the buzzer. On to over time it was short but very very sweet! Ice bucket won the drop but soon lost the ball to a miss hit. Sally yabsley picked up the ball quick pass over the line to stockey, to sally back to the sliding stockey, was he going to make the shot? He was sliding and sliding geting closer and closer then a push pass to the goal and a Win to the Tigers YAY Go the TIGERS!!

Raptors vs. The Penguins by James Kristof
For the past few seasons, Penguins v.s. Raptors games have always been hard-fought and close matches, and last nights match was no different. Raptors started very strong, creating many chances and constantly applied pressure to the Penguins defence, causing many turnovers and more opportunities to score. It was no surprise then that Raptors opened the scoring after a pass-turned-shot by Kevin Chen was saved by Chris Helderman, but the rebound was quickly scrambled into the goal by Jessica Lee. 1-0 Raptors at halftime. Penguins seemed to be pick it up in the second half though, starting to apply their own pressure in attack and defence, Daniel Wong equalising with a long-range effort after a Tim Roffey pass to tie it up at 1-1. With the clock winding down, goal-scoring virtuoso Sara Roffof once again proved a game-breaker, scoring the game winner to give Penguins a tight 2-1 win.

SonicsB vs. Huskies by Saxon Hooper
Jason Wheeler predicted pain in his write up last week and there was plenty of it for Sonics B. Huskies defeating them 5 goals to 2 in the red eye game. Goals to Huskies Tim Harvey 3, Luke Simmonds and Glen Butler-Fleming. Jason Wheeler and Josh Yabsley were the scorers for SonicsB.

A Division - Week 2
Ravens go to 2 and 0 !!
Penrith City Rangers vs. Richmond Ravens by Sam Boer
The first half of this game was dominated by defence, as both teams were able to exact turnovers through effective zone defence and fore-checking pressure. Ravens perhaps looked slightly more dangerous. The first part of the second half was owned by the Ravens, who were moving well in attack and controlling posession generally. The first goal came from a cheeky wrap-around by Sam Boer, deflecting off the keepers shoulder and in. A second came soon after, a screamer (with a little deflection form the D) from James Dymond, who has definitely got the radar working in 2008. Rangers did get some possession in the latter stages of the game, but some quality keeping and scrambling defence ensured there would be no come back. 2-0 Ravens. They have now equalled their win and goal tally from last season in two games!

Werrington County Sonics vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Glenmore Park Druids finally had their complete roster on the ice. Must have been the first time since early last season. Welcoming back solid defender Tim Ollerton the Druids with 2 full lines were ready to roll. Sonics on the other hand were very undermanned missing 2005 Nationals All Star Womens Defender Ceez Kim, Dee Scarano and Paul Stockbridge. Despite being undermanned Sonics still competed the way that made them last season's premiers. Very disciplined defence with blinding counter from speed men Ben Robson, Jason Wheeler and Tim Brown meant they were always in the game. Druids game plan as usual, forecheck well and play the ball in the offensive end. So usual Druids vs Sonics grind. Nathan Lawler broke the dead lock seven minutes into the game, running onto a lob pass from Saxon Hooper, hit the shot on the volley boucing it over the keeper from outwide. Miracle goal. 1-0 half time. Druids doubled their lead 10 minutes into the 2nd half with a nice counter goal. Damian Colyer releasing Linda Bell who moved down the wing and flipped a nice ball into Steve Larter who one timed the shot for a goal. 2-0 Druids ten to go. Sonics amped up the pressure and came close to getting several goals, however Druids managed to hold out and reverse last seasons preliminary final result. 2-0 win for Druids. Congratulations to Chrissy O'Brien who made a strong A grade debut for Sonics.

B Division - Week 2
Sonics B Open Their W Account
SonicsB vs. Team IceBucket by Jason Wheeler
The newly formed Sonics B have notched up their maiden victory in dominating fashion. Martin Brennan opened the scoring followed quickly by a Jason Wheeler strike to extend the lead to 2-0 midway through the first half. Amran Sinha got in on the action scoring a fine goal for a 3-0 lead. The whole Sonics outfit, with only one sub, controlled possession superbly and shut down everything thrown at them. Leading a depleted side, Liam Golding posed a continual threat to the Sonics defence and was rewarded with an excellent goal. Golding intercepted inside his half and despite being well covered by the defence managed a sizzling backhand shot from a tight angle. Sonics entered the break with a 3-1 advantage. Soon after the break Amran Sinha bagged his double for a 4-1 lead. Buckets continued to press hard but were unable to create many true chances. A few minutes from full-time, Cameron Parkes scored a fine solo goal to complete the 5-1 demolition. It was a great performance with every Sonic making a strong contribution. Next week's blockbuster will feature the Sonics against the in-form Huskies. My prediction? Pain! and lots of it.

Huskies vs. DruidsB by Jason Hall
Last week saw the Huskies start a little rusty. Some individual brilliance kept them in the hunt, but they just didn't work as a team. Against the new Druids team, which fields some strong shot makers, the Huskies defence would be under pressure to limit the shot attempts that the Druids could make. The game started well with both teams looking a lot more polished then last week. Good runs from both sides kept it interesting for the first part of the half. Huskies had a few good opportunities, but due to some scrambling defence just couldn't capitalise. That is until our newest player to start 'A' Grade did what he does best and scored our opening goal. This was quickly followed by a goal from Schmoo to put the Huskies up 2 - 0. You would think 2 quick goals would relieve the pressure, but Druids didn't put their heads down and came back with more intensity. Applying a lot of pressure and with some unlucky shots on the Huskies Goal they were unfortunately not able to close the gap. So at the half it was 2 - 0 to the Huskies. Huskies came out strong in the second half and opened up the scoring with Tim aka (The Finisher) Harvey scoring again. Yet again looking at the way the Druids were playing you wouldn't have been blamed for thinking they were the team in front. Some strong offence from the Druids culminating in a great break by Nathan Lawler for a one on one with the keeper. Unfortunately the scrambling defence accidentally tripped and hit Lawler in the back ruining the shot. This saw Jason Hall sent off for the interference and gave the Druids a 2 minute Power play. Huskies shut down the power play though and controlled the ball well, limiting the Druids shots and so were able to hold out until Jason got back on the Ice. In the last part of the 2nd half Druids were unlucky to score an own goal with one of their girls accidentally deflecting a shot into the goals off Jason Hall's shooting. Tim Harvey scored a last goal for the Huskies in the dieing minutes for a 5 - 0 win to the Huskies. Don't let the score line fool you though. It was a much closer game then it indicates.

Finally Broomball is Back
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Richmond Ravens by Sam Boer
Ravens were keen to make up for their poor showings lasat season against Druids, started well with the early attacking pressure. They were unable to convert, however, and an inability to maintain posession allowed Druids into the game. A Druids counterattack saw the first points, Hooper doing it all himself. Druids continued to dominate and were rewarded with their second, again off the stick of Hooper. Two nil at half time. The second half began the way the first finished, with Ravens struggling to break ouot of a well organised forecheck. Ravens eventually got some passing together and got one back with a nice tip from Sara Rofoff off a James Dymond shot with still ten minutes on the clock. Chances came for both teams as the game opened up, and it was Dane Hansen who equalised with a superb reverse sweep left hand hand thingy). Overtime was short lived, as a turnover and some smart passing from Krys Lockhart and a good finish from Raven Jo Mitchell saw Ravens get their 1st win over Druids in years. 3-2 OT win for Ravens.

Werrington County Sonics vs. Blacktown Butchers by Davin Harvey
First game for the Butchers was against the Sonics, last season’s Elimination final repeat. Who would take this one? Butchers came out hard in the first, some a little too hard in the refs’s minds. First half was a fast one, both teams creating great attacking opportunities and only scrambling defence held both teams at bay. Sonics got the first advantage with Tim Brown taking a big dive against the wall and Davin Harvey copping a 2 minute call for it. Butchers battened down the hatches in defence and held the Sonics out quite easily even spending a little time in attack looking for a short-handed goal. 2 minutes up and both teams back to full pace again looking to take the upper hand. Late in the first Sonics were given another gifted penalty, who else….Davin Harvey, back in the box for another 2, not sure of the official reason. Butchers once again dominated in defence and held out the Sonics onslaught and finished the half 0-0. 2nd half saw and the Butchers were out for the win and it came early with a pressured long range shot from Peter Yabsley beating the keeper, 1-0. Sonics stepped up the intensity from there with their signature fast paced attack but they were unable to capitalise, the Butchers holding strong in D and some great keeping ensuring no reply. 1-0 Butchers and a great start to the season. Look forward to next week.

B Division - Week 1
OT is the new Black
Huskies vs. Raptors by Davin Harvey
It was great to be back out there Monday night. A few new faces in the Raptors line up took on their old rivals the Huskies for Round 1. Raptors controlled a lot of the first half putting on 2 goals early in the game. First goal came mid-way through the first half for Marc Kuipers when a 2 on 1 opportunity opened up, Davin Harvey drew the final defender flick passed over the defender’s broom to Marc who put a in a low hard shot for the first. 2nd goal followed soon after when the Raptors were again strong on attack, Jessica Lee getting the ball out from the back wall to an oncoming Louis Sultana. His one time shot finding the back net through the keepers legs. As the half wore down the Huskies stepped up their attack and were rewarded late in the first half when a 2 man break away opportunity finished by Tim Harvey put the Huskies back in the game. 2-1 at the half. Great possession and build up from Raptors in the first. 2nd half saw the Raptors come out and pile on some great attacking pressure, unlucky not to go ahead further. Huskies were the ones to convert in the 2nd half though putting away a goal on the PowerPlay following a harsh call on Davin Harvey for Holding. Jason Hall picking up the loose ball in the dying seconds of the PowerPlay put a hard shot on net getting through and putting the score level, 2-2. With 3 mins to go both teams were scrambling for the nail in the coffin but were unable to convert, so to OT we went. OT and the Huskies led the charge trying to get into Raptors end but a simple turn over quickly put Raptors on the attack. Slowing the play down looking to get a goal Marc Kuipers was unlucky not to convert from the loose ball in the slot. Huskies holding out on the first wave took the ball back up the Raptors end but turned the ball over again and put the Raptors on a break-away. The break-away was quickly broken down when one of the Huskies brought Davin Harvey down, the crowd calling for the penalty shot, Raptors happily took the 2mins advantage. From there it didn’t take long for Louis Sultana to put home the winner and give the Raptors their first win of the season. Great effort all round Raptors, look forward to next week.

The Penguins vs. SonicsB by James Kristof
Three time defending champions Penguins have undergone major whole-sale changes in the off-season re-acquiring the services of Troy Viney and Chris Helderman, but losing Jason Wheeler, Amran Sinha and Chris O'Brien, who formed the core of the Penguins first game opponents Sonics B. Sonics B on the other hand, had never played as a team before, although by the way that they controlled the match, you'd never have guessed it. Sonics B were all over the Penguins, absolutely dominating possession and territory, however, it was the Penguins who scored first late in the first half, as Daniel Wong got on a breakaway, supported by Sara Kristof (or is it Roffey...just to be safe, she will now be known as Sara Roffof), who accepted the pass from Daniel and put away the first goal. Sonics B were undeterred however, and Jason Wheeler tied it up with only seconds to go in the half. The second half saw much the same play as the first, Penguins struggling until they again broke the deadlock, this time Shannan Heinitz putting them ahead off a James Kristof pass. Penguins then defended strongly, until the last 10 seconds saw Jason Wheeler steal the ball from behind the Penguins goal, run in front and hammer home their second to send us to overtime. Perhaps a little inexperienced as a unit, Sonics B didn't see much of the ball in OT, Daniel Wong finally sealing the game for the Penguins. 3-2 in OT.

DruidsB vs. Tigers by Saxon Hooper
Druids B represent the birth of the first broomball super club. Think Collingwood, think Broncos, think Manchester United, soon the Green of the Glenmore Park Druids will be everywhere, ridiculous amounts of merchandise sold, unbelievable training facilities, sponsors lining up, professional players and Druids pay per view games on Foxtel. DruidsB started their B division career up against a tough Tigers outfit and the game went to the wire. Starting strongly Nathan Lawler put Druids in front just five minutes into the game. Tigers though were not deflated and in fact picked up their intensity creating numerous defensive head aches for the Druids. 0-0 half time. Second half was just as intense with neither team being able to crack open the other's defence. Just as Druids were starting to think about holding out the 1-0 advantage, Tigers levelled it up through Paul Stockbridge. 1-1 with 4 to go. No further change to the score as the third B grade game for the night went into OT. Tigers had the best of the early exchanges in OT with Sally Yabsley clanging one off the post. Druids managed to get the ball back and it was Nathan Lawler who found Amanda Smith (Druids Canadian Import) who scored the OT winning goal for Druids. Great first up game for both teams with both teams playing extremely well.

29-JAN-2008
A and B Division Draw is Finalised and Up On Web
Only a week away until the start of the Winter 2008 season for A and B divisons. A grade has the same five teams, Druids welcoming back Tim Ollerton after losing Kosta Sourlas to the Mines and Money in Perth. Penrith City Rangers have added up and comer Tim Harvey to their roster. Werrington County Sonics have lost Marvin Dossi forever but have Jon Skiadas returning and should have a brief cameo appearence from old goal sneak Ben Robson. B grade is a mix mash of player movement and team reformation. For starters Phoenix have been drawn into the Druids umbrella and will become Druids B grade team. Jason Wheeler has left The Penguins and formed a Sonics B franchise. Sonics will pick up most the players from the defunct Ice Devils team. The mix up should make for an interesting season as teams settle and adjust to their new players.

Note: A grade seasonal fees are due week 1 and B grade week 3, make sure you bring your cash. $1140 per team.
