Sonics in Epic OT Encounter
Grand Final - Werrington County Sonics vs. Richmond Ravens by Gemma Butler-Fleming
Gemma will deliver an awesome write up soon. For now though here is one by me (Saxon). A typical Sonics game, Ravens dominating territory and posession, Sonics tight in defence looking to hurt them on a speedy break away. Unlike in previous games Ravens didnt break Sonics defence, and Sonics didnt break past on Ravens. 0 - 0 full time, into 5 minutes of OT. Again even though Ravens dominated posession they could not score, and a few long shots from Tim Brown for Sonics yielded nothing. 0-0 end of OT period 1. Into sudden death OT. Ben Robson with the ball, a flip to Tim Brown who broke, Ben Robson followed up meaning a 2-1 with the Ravens defence. Tim Brown faked the pass and slotted the goal. 1-0 sudden death OT win for Sonics, their 2nd A division title.

The Penguins Live Up to Expectations
Grand Final - Team IceBucket vs. The Penguins by James Kristof
And so then there was 2. The Penguins versus Team Ice Bucket, two teams that are best friends off the ice, but are arch rivals on the ice. Coming into this game Penguins had lost only 2 games the entire season, both to the same team, and Buckets had come from fourth on the table, grinding their way through two overtime finals just to reach the grand final, the scene was set for the last B grade game of the year. Both teams were at full strength, with subs-a-plenty, so good, hard, fast-paced match was looking likely. However, from the first face-off Penguins immediately looked to control possession and territory. Keeping Buckets under sustained pressure for an entire half, with a barrage of shots, many of which were on target, Penguins were frustrated at half time when the score remained 0-0. However, the intense period of sustained defence also took its toll on Team IceBucket, and when the second half started, they were unable to rectify the possession and territory stats, Penguins again controlling the game, until after 10 minutes they finally broke through the Team IceBucket defence, goal-scoring machine Sara Kristof slotting home the only goal of the game. After the goal Penguins were determined to maintain the intensity and discipline they'd displayed for 30 minutes, and so again Team Ice Bucket were called to defend heavily, stopping shot after shot from the Penguins. The grand final finished 1-0 to the Penguins, with all team members playing at their peak especially when called to defend, keeper Chris Helderman only needing to touch the ball twice throughout the game. 1-0 to the Penguins, clinching their second B grade title since their inception.

You may remember earlier in the year, young Chris Dezman copped a huge shot to the Muz !! At the time we didnt have footage, so we used the following artist's impression to capture the discomfort.

Without any cameras to record Chris's discomfort, we have had to use an artist to accurately reenact the expressions of Chris's face.

Chris Dezman happily defending.

Chris Dezman at the moment of impact.
Did that just hit me in the MUZ.?.?...

OMG!! The PAIN !!

Could this be Chris's Future ?

Well who says lightening never strikes twice !! In the B division grand final Russell Gregory launched a shot, Chris got in the way and took it in the MUZ again. This time however the camera was rolling and we bring it to you, click the cartoon below :) Poor Chris, although it was good of him to take a 2nd shot to the Muz for our entertainment.....

Tigers Romp it In !!
Grand Final - Tigers vs. Flat Whites by Saxon Hooper
Tigers got off to the best possible start scoring in the first 20 seconds of the match. A missed pass by the Flat White's keeper lead to a turn over and a goal to Paul Stockbridge. Another keeper error lead to Clair Herborn one timing the lose ball for tiger 2nd goal just 7 minutes into the game. Cameron Parkes was trying hard for Flat Whites and had a few breaks leading into the half time break but couldnt convert. 2-0 half time Tigers. Flat Whites settled after the break and looked more in the game and were starting to generate chances. However on a break a turn over lead to a party trick from paul Stockbridge, a between the legs special. 3-0 Tigers with only 14 minutes left in the game.. surely the trophy was theirs especially as penalties to Flat Whites Josh Yabsley and Simeon Cumberland left Flat Whites short, when they needed to attack. with 5 to go and Flat Whites trying to clear defence and mount an attack, Paul Stockbridge completed his hat trick, scrambling it in for the 4-0 lead. 4-0 being the final score, Tigers in their new hot uniforms winning the one sided grand final.

The Replacements Easily over Ice Devils
Grand Final - The Replacements vs. Ice Devils by Saxon Hooper
It took The Replacements awhile to get going in the D Division final, as Ice Devils, although undermanned pressed hard. However the skill and the extra fresh legs of the Replacements began to show and Dave Farrell bagged the first of his 3 goals with 7 to go in the half. With only 15 seconds in the half, a turn over from defensive pressure put Dave on a break, beating the keeper for his second goal on the half time buzzer. The break was good for Devils as they regrouped and held The Replacements at bay for the first 13 minutes of the 2nd half. Again with Devils on the attack a turn over lead to Michael Hopkins sprinting away to score. Just 2 minutes later Amy Farrell got in on the action converting a goal mouth scramble into a Replacements goal. Then just 30 seconds later, Dave Farrell completed his hat trick with a nicely struck shot from another break away. 5-0 winners in the D division final for The Replacements.

Sonics to Take on Ravens
Preliminary Final - Werrington County Sonics vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Druids started awesome in this game, sustained posession and sustained pressure in the attacking end. Some excellent shots were blocked by defence or parried by the keeper, a goal looked likely any time for Druids. However with Sonics, looking out of the game and being out of the game are different things completely. Just under 10 minutes into the game Sonics got some posession and Scott Murry and Ben Robson got the ball to Tim Brown who shot from long range. 1-0 Sonics despite having little posession or shots on goal. The status quo continued with Druids pressuring totally. Another mistake cost Druids their 2nd goal, a missed flick over the top intercepted by Kerry Baxter. Her pass found a breaking Tim Brown who slotted the ball from close range as time ran out for the half. 2-0 Sonics half time. 2nd half was a carbon copy of the first, Druids moving the ball around the edges, Sonics compact in their zone defence. Despite some really good Druid chances, they couldnt convert and Sonics held out for a typical Sonics win. 2-0 Sonics who move onto to take on Ravens in the grand final. Ravens have finished the season with a wet sail pipping Druids and Sonics for the minor premiership, while Sonics had poor form leading up the finals, improved through the finals leading to what should be an epic grand final. Grand final experience is with Sonics having played 4, Winning in summer 2003(Druids) and losing summer 2005(Druids), Winter 2005(Druids) and winter 2003(Mighty Ducks). Ravens have played just the one final a 2-1 loss to Druids in the winter 2004 season.

Team IceBucket Set Up Ultimate Grudge Match Grand Final
Preliminary Final - Team IceBucket vs. Phoenix by Saxon Hooper
Team IceBucket grabbed an OT win over Girl Germs to advance to the preliminary final. Phoenix lost the qualifying final vs Penguins in OT. So would we see more OT.. I think you all know the answer !! It took 13 minutes for Team IceBucket to get on the board, a goal through a player who is too slack to do a write up for his team so shall remain nameless. 1-0 halftime. There must have been something on the ice, beacuse at the same suburb, same rink, same end, same ice, same game, same 13th minute of the half Krys Lockhart scored for a different team, Phoenix. 1-1 with 7 minutes to go ! of course the order of the universe could not be shattered and that was how the game finished. 1-1, more overtime for these teams. Now there isnt 13 minutes in an OT period so when the first goal was scored by Andy Chapman (that is an earth shattering event in itself), the flood gates opened. Chapman for Phoenix @ 4:24 to go in OT 2-1, The nameless one for IceBuckets @ 4:16 to go in OT 2-2, Krys Lockhart for Phoenix @ 4:03 to go in OT 3-2, The Nameless @ 3:47 to go in OT 3-3. 4 goals in 37 seconds !! Luckily for us a nearby witch doctor felt the universe splitting asunder and cast a spell to hold it together and the game went back to normal, no further goals in the first period of OT. Meaning for these teams, their spot in the grand final, hung on a single bit of brilliance or a single mistake, into sudden death overtime !! A few early exchanges until a turnover lead to a break and Chris Dezman 1-1 managed to beat the defence and score for Team IceBucket sending them into the grand final with The Penguins. Team IceBucket have a slight edge in grand final experience over The Penguins having played 3, however 2 of these grand finals were in C and D grade in the teams early seasons. The first win was in C division, over 69ers back in Summer 2003, they backed that up after being promotoed to B grade to win vs Phoenix 1-0 in Winter 2004. The Penguins while less experienced in fianls have more recent experience winning their only B appearence winter 2005, 2-0 over Golden Falcons. Should be a cracking final as these two teams have developed a friendly rivlary over the years, meaning much more than just the B shield is on the line tonight. Get down and watch it !!

Tigers in another OT Thriller
Preliminary Final - Tigers vs. Ice Bogans by Sally Yabsley
What a tight and action packed game. Both teams bringing a different style of broomball to the game. The Ice Bogans relied on their speed, and the Tigers on their passing and positioning. The Tigers held posession for a lot of the 1st half but failed to put any points on the board. The Bogans had some really close shots from fast break aways. There were some really unlucky missed goals makeing the game exciting to watch for the good sized crowd. The Ice Bogans scored and held the lead all the way until the last 20 seconds when the Tigers finally put themselves on the board , it was a Janelle White assist and a Paul Stockbridge goal! Go the Tigers. with 20 seconds to go Ben Irmish took the face off with a lucky drop he took off winning the ball pushing over the line through 2 Ice Bogans and only just missed out on the goal due to some good keeping. Bringing the game in to overtime. This was Where the Tigers shone their true new colours. The tigers kept possesion well and took some great shots. They ran with the ball and passed well. A goal from stocky and a send off from clair left our 2 newest and youngest players to finish off the 4-1 socre line. All in all Well played Ice Bogans you gave us a relly run for the monney and you will be a force to be see next season. And well played Tigers and Best of luck in our grudge match of a final next week.

Ice Devils earn 2nd Shot at Replacements
Preliminary Final - Knights Who Say Broomball vs Ice Devils by Saxon Hooper
Knights who Say Broomball got away to a solid start with Pierce Van de Pol combining with Marc Kuipers to score in the 10th minute of the first half. Just four minutes later Chris Edwards squared it away, taking a pass from Keiran McDonald and scoring for Ice Devils. With just 3 minutes to go in the first half Chris Edwards assisted Keiran McDonald to make it 2-1 Ice Devils at half time. Both teams pressed hard in the 2nd period however no further goals resulted. 2-1 Ice Devils taking on The Replacements in the D grand final on Thursday. Ice Devils will have to lift their game, after being defeated by The Replacements 5-0 in last weeks qualifying final.

Sonics in Double OT Thriller, Ravens into their 2nd Grand Final
Qualifying Final - 1st Richmond Ravens vs. 2nd Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Ravens have had the wood on Druids winning narrow games all season. The qualifying final was no exception, a long range shot beating the keeper giving the Ravens a 1-0 win a ticket straight into the grand final. Druids have a 2nd chance at the final taking on the winner elimination final.

Elimination Final - 3rd Werrington County Sonics vs. 4th Penrith City Rangers by Daniel Wong
The first game of the night saw the Penrith City Rangers match up against the Werrington County Sonics in what was to be an epic elimination final. (Where were you to video this one Kev??). The first half was very tight between these two teams. The first and only goal of the period was scored by John Skiadas who off a break (courtesy of a Tim Brown pass) beat the keeper at the far post. 1 - 0 HALFTIME. The second half was also very close with the defence hanging tight not allowing any of both teams speed men any clear chances. Finally James Kristof scored to even it up 8 minutes into the period off a Liam Golding assist. The final play of the game saw the Rangers fly down the boards with a 3 on 2 fast break but some great keeping and hussle by Kieran McDonald and Kerry Baxter kept the Rangers out for a 1 - 1 FULLTIME score. Daniel Wong was then sent off for interference in the first 5 seconds of overtime giving the Sonics and 4 on 3 advantage which only took Tim Brown & Ben Robson 50 seconds to take full advantage of. 2 - 1 SONICS. Full strength again, the Rangers went deep into attack but unable to break down the Sonics solid defence. That was until the last 30 seconds when Bryan Macklin was able to get a rebound in front of the net and slot it home for a 2 - 2 OVERTIME score. So it was then onto the 2nd period of overtime. Tim Brown won the face off and Kerry made it through the Rangers defence taking a shot from just in front of the blue line which managed to beat both Liam Golding's and Daniel Wong's desperate dives. So 3 - 2 in DOUBLE OVERTIME to the Sonics in what was one of the closest & most exciting games I've ever played.

Girl Germs Eliminated, The Penguins straight through !
Qualifying Final - 1st The Penguins vs. 2nd Phoenix by James Kristof
Following a double over-time A grade match, and another super tough A grade match, all of which contained players from both Penguins and Phoenix, the scene was set for a tight affair. The history of victory between these two teams seems to fluctuate season by season. Last season it was Phoenix who comfortably beat Penguins on numerous occassions, this season it was the exact reverse. Phoenix had a full compliment of 10 players available, while Penguins had 8, only missing the goal scoring machine that is Troy Viney. The first half was dominated by penguins in both possession and territory, keeping phoenix under sustained pressure but not being able to convert on any of several chances created. Then Phoenix upped the ante and created several chances of their own in the latter stages of the half. 0-0 at half time, with the standouts being Katie Robson for Phoenix and Chris Helderman for Penguins, the keepers. Again Penguins seemed to dominate early in the second half, but again nothing was forthcoming as Katie Robson continued to make save after save, and then the structure of the game started to fall apart as both teams tired after the 2 previous over-time A grade finals and an intense 30 minutes of this game, when Phoenix looked to have scored off a pass from just over the halfway line that deflected into the goals. However, the deflection came off a Phoenix foot and was therefore disallowed, both teams seeming to just control possession when they had it, waiting for the inevitable overtime period. 0-0 at full time, again Katie Robson and Chris Helderman taking the honours of best on ice. Overtime. Phoenix took the upperhand early, taking the ball and setting up for an opportunity, which seemed to come in the form of a Damien Colyer long-range bomb that was destined to finally break the deadlock until a jumping Sara Kristof managed to just get in the line of the ball, deflecting it only centimetres past the post. From then on however, Penguins took possession and were not going to relinquish it. Having taken the ball over the halfway line, Sara Kristof passed the ball to James Kristof, who simply stood still with the ball and waited to see what would unfold. Helen Smith ran to the post, attracting 3 Phoenix players, leaving Jason Wheeler wide open a couple of metres inside the blue line, and once having received the ball, hammered home the only goal of the game. Penguins then took control of the game, maintaining possession for most of the remaining 3 minutes, running down the clock and ensuring them a place in the grand final after being beaten only twice throughout the entire season. Penguins 1-0 after overtime.

Elimination Final - 3rd Girl Germs vs. 4th Team IceBucket by Cale Golding
It was like the clashing of the Titans when these two teams met on the ice for what promised to be ironically, a hot and fiery clash. The first half saw both teams lose a player to the penalty box, and the competition was fierce, with Girl Germs spending sustained periods in Team Ice Bucket’s defensive zone. The Team Ice Bucket defense was equal to every challenge however. Five minutes into the second half, Girl Germs were pressing hard with their attack. Despite valiant defense, they worked a strong shot at the goals, which Team Ice Bucket keeper Alex dove to block. However, Ra, the Egyptian sun god, was shining on Linda, as the ball rebounded straight back to her, she flicked it into the open goal, to put her team into the lead, 1-0. Team Ice Bucket stepped up the counterattack, and when a swift pass found Liam on the wing, he sprinted down the line like one of Zeus’ thunderbolts. Splitting the defense he passed to Chris in the centre, who slotted the ball home to level the teams with seven minutes remaining. In the final five minutes, with neither team wanting to risk conceding a goal, defense was the mantra, and when the full time siren sounded, scores were locked at one-a-piece. With both teams determined to pave their way into broomballing immortality, extra time begun. Thirty seconds in, Liam fired the ball at Girl Germs’ goal. It flew like an arrow from Apollo’s bow, and found its target in the back of the net. Team Ice Bucket took the lead for the first time in the match. Despite her Jesus-like-ability of walking on water (although in this case frozen), Sally could not pull out a miracle for her team, and Girl Germs lost the match, ending their season. Team Ice Bucket however, have booked themselves a place in the semi-final. After the match, they held a blood sacrifice to Huitzilopochtli, the Aztec god of sun and war, to thank him for their victory. All players should be congratulated for a great match, no doubt one the gods will be talking about for a long time, up there in broomball heaven.

Flat Whites into Grand Final After Epic Thriller !!
Qualifying Final - 1st Tigers vs. 2nd Flat Whites by Josh Yabsley
This game had songs, laughter, goals, goals, and plenty of goals. The game started off with two goals to the flat whites, the first of which was scored by the man Shannon Hienitz, and the second scored by Josh Yabsley. However the tension remained thick in the second half, the Tigers fought valiantly and crept back in to game 2-1,2-2,3-2,3-3. And full time was blown. The referees aproached each team and explained finals over time, and then the action restarted. Back and forth untill each team managed to score their respective 4th goals, 4 all and first over time was over the rink was silent except for those complaining about how late it was. Into the second over time, Sudden Death Broomball, it sounds scary but it not as sudden as first thought. A well fought battle by both teams however the game came to an end with a goal to the Flat Whites. Good luck in the next game Tigers it was not easy but this time you were unlucky. Flat Whites move straight into the grand final with Tigers to take on the winners of Ice Bogans and Huskies in Thursdays preliminary final.

Elimination Final - 3rd Ice Bogans vs. 4th Huskies by Josh Newell
For a team that has only been playing together for a short time, you have to be congratulated on your team work. Everyone pitches in and helps whether in attack or defence. The first half saw the only goal of the match which was scored by Scott off a pass from Josh. The rest of the game remained scoreless even though there were opportunities to score from both sides. Adam made some fantastic saves, Grant,Scott,Josh and Dudz some great intercepts and shots at goal. Thanks to Dudz for playing, even though had a knee injury, would not let the team play short. Ash and Casey you held your own backing up everywhere with good solid defending and accurate passes. Thanks girls for always trying and being there every week, you both got in there with the small or big guys standing your ground and playing every week hard with no subs. The best thing this week though was that no-one was sent off and we all stayed on the ice.(well done Grant). Thanks team and good luck for the next two weeks, look forward to playing the Tigers next week. Go all the way!!!!! Ice Bogans elimated Huskies 1-0 and now take on the Tigers next week in the preliminary final. The winner to take on Flat Whites for the C division championship.

Replacements Cruise into D Final !!
Qualifying Final - 1st Replacements vs 2nd Ice Devils by Alison Jones
Replacements dominated from the start with strong attack which had the Ice Devils back in their own half defending early and for most of the game. Joel started off the scoring with a great goal. Next Alison scored off a pass from Dave then they turned it around with Dave scoring from Alisons assist. Ice Devils struggled to make any forward progress, as they came up time and time again against the tough defense which turned it back into attack. David scored again putting an even wider gap between the two teams. There was some great stacks as well and remember Chris, you have to stretch before you try and do the splits. Megan played a very good game this week even venturing over that red line into the attacking half, getting a little confused when she was told to get back on side and finally gaining an assist when she helped Amy to score her first goal of the season. Great all round effort team, well played by everyone and a good lead up to the final. End score was 5-0 to the Replacements. Replacements straight into the grand final and looking good for the D division championship. Ice Devils will need to defeat Knights Who Say Broomball next week to progress.

Elimination Final - 3rd Knights Who Say Broomball vs 4th Carney Clownz by Lana Kuipers
In what proved to be a very evenly matched game, the first thirty minutes of play was neither dominated by one team or the other. It was easily the Knight's best game of the entire season and the Clownz responded with fervor. From those on the sideline it appeared to be a very slow game - the ball not seeming to be moving all that quickly, however those on the ice saw it as being a different speed altogether. It was not until midway through the second half that Pierce found himself ahead of the pack and streamlining for the goal, with a mighty effort he swung and hit the ball before going on to run into the wall just after seeing the ball slip through the legs of the Clownz goalie. A loud cheer from all Knights echoed through the rink. Defence was tight with Sarah and Lana never leaving their post. Beck and Jess were brilliant as both defence and attack and scurried along the ice with great speed and at times even grace. Marc and Scott were brilliant attackers, never missing an opportunity between them to go for a run - unsucessfully, yes - but at least they managed to find a break. And as always, Matt (aka Ninja Goalie) made numerous saves which saw the Knights win this match 1-0. Good job to all Knights, and thanks to the Clownz for a brilliant game and friendly match (even though the ante had risen greatly!) Knights go on to take on Ice Devils in the preliminary final next week for a spot in the D division grand final.

A Division - Week 18
Down to the Wire !!
Richmond Ravens vs. Penrith City Rangers by Saxon Hooper
Werrington Ninjas had dropped out of the finals race a few weeks back, however the top 4 were locked in a tight battle. So tight in fact if on this night, the last round of the season, Rangers beat Ravens and Druids beat Ninjas, all 4 teams Ravens, Sonics, Druids and Rangers would be tied for 1st on 38 points. The first part of the equation Rangers beating Ravens looked likely as the Ravens bench was somewhat lighter than usual, missing Davin Harvey, Kris Lockhart and James Dymond. Rangers used their subs to advantage playing fast and making Ravens work, however no chances converted by either team, 0-0 half time. Tim "too old, too slow for this sh*t" Ollerton, was awesome in goals for Ravens. 2nd half saw more of the same, Rangers mostly on attack, however still no score. 0-0 full time, 0-0 OT, 0-0 game over, 0-0 end of the 4 way tie possibility. Congrats to Ravens who did enough to get to the minor premiership for the season.

Werrington Ninjas vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Druids were back on 33 points, Sonics with their season over last week were sitting in 2nd on 38 points. With 1 point in the bag for earlier duty, Druids needed an outright win over Ninjas to get the 4 points and get up level on 38 with Sonics. Being even on points meant getting in front of Sonics and into 2nd on the table, having 1 win,1 loss and 1 oT win over Sonics this season. Druids got off to the start they needed going 1-0 up 4 minutes in. Katie Laybutt scoring with assists from Damian Colyer and Kosta Sourlas. Just a minute later from an attacking face off, Druid Saxon Hooper won the ball directly back to Nathan Lawler, who slotted it across to Tim Ollerton, who just tapped it from 30 feet out. The tap sorted sounded like a boom and the ball rocketed into the top of the goals. Some nice screening by the girls Lauren Goulden and Katie Laybutt kept the keeper unsighted until it was way to late ! With 5 minutes to go in the half, some forecheck pressure lead to a turn over to Saxon Hooper in front of the goals, a hard shot and it was 3-0 Druids at the half. A nice lead and some other good chances saw Druids coasting in this one, a spot in the qualifying final seemed assured. However Ninjas didnt win last years premiership by fluke, they are a good side and with nothing more than pride to play for turned it up. Peter Yabsley cashing in scoring two goals in a minute to have Ninjas 3-2 down with 10 minutes left in the game. Druids had to refocus and consolidate their defence and managed to hold Ninjas out. 3-2 Druids giving them 2nd spot on count back over Sonics, both teams on 38 points. Ravens finished minor premiers on 39 and Rangers came in close behind 4th on 36. Druids now take on Ravens in the qualifying final, the winner to move straight into the grand final on the 11 of December. The loser will have to play Thursday vs the winner of the Sonics vs Rangers elimination final.

B Division - Week 18
Penguins Minor Premiers !!
Team IceBucket vs Raptors by a drugged up Liam Golding
So we were going to be playing the Raptors, who have hit back with some form in the last couple of weeks, whilst we were sitting on some losses in recent weeks, entirly because Chris Dezman won't do what I tell him to do (ie. "go score goals.") Anyway, we had no idea if we had a chance at the finals, so we thought we would have some fun for the last week of the games. To this end, we told Lisa not to come, as Mel and Sarah wanted to run lots more. Actually we all wanted to run lots more, so we forwent subs entirely. (There was an extra benfit to all this extra running; we got to pay more to prove our stamina. Anyone recognise this issue...) Anyhow, to the game. Raptors started with even more desire to run, so they only put five on the ice initially. This gave us a really good opportunity to practice passing the ball around, and so we did. Occasionally we got tired of this and smacked the thing hard at the general area of the goals, but no scoring. Raptors did what we suspected they would, and helped us with achieving our objective of running the equivalent distance of ten marathons, by continually making fast breaks through our defensive (line?) zone. With six on the ice the game evened out, but I like to think we still made a bit of ground. Anyway, less than a minute before half time chris put a rebound, (I think off a Greasy shot,) into the back of the net to give us the lead at half time. The seond half started just as well for us, as chris gave me a ball just over halfway, and so, having not scored heaps this season, I thought I would make up for it. Hence besides just trying to get the ball in the back of net, I also joined it, along with Louis, and their keeper. Unfortunately, despite my master plan, they only gave me one goal for it. The second half was much like the first. Raptors got one goal back when they flicked the ball over the top of our line, one-twoed past our lone defender, and slotted it in about mid-way through this half. We decided to have no plan, and didn't camp defensively, nor did we score anymore goals, nor did they score any more, nor did Greasy get an oscar for his "I'm Sensitive - On Ice" stage production. And thus endeth another merry round of carzy-run-on-the-ice-game won 2-1 by TIB, and just maybe, after some people read this, I won't live so happily ever after. The End.

Girl Germs vs Ice Devils by Saxon Hooper
Ice Devils welcomed back it's slack A graders this week and it made a difference. Dane Hansen scoring first just 5 minutes in. Just 3 minutes later Linda Bell tied up from a Tracy Ivin assist. Another goal followed quickly as Shannan Heinit on debut put the Ice Devils back in front, set up by Dane Hansen. 2-1 Ice devils at half time. Looked like Ice Devils were going to hold out for the 2nd half until with only one minute to go in the Linda Bell found Jo Mitchell who scored to make it 2-2 and force OT. OT didnt last long with Shannan Heinitz completing his double with Dane Hansen assisting again. 3-2 OT for Ice Devils.

Huskies vs The Penguins by Saxon Hooper
Huskies have been hit hard by injury late in the season and couldnt raise the numbers to take on The Penguins so unfortunately had to forfeit. Not the best end to the season for the competition or Huskies, hopefully by next season, Huskies all recover and get back to their premiership winning form of last year. The Penguins took out the minor premiership by a long way, 4 wins and 12 points clear of their closest rival 2nd placed Phoenix. Phoenix and The Penguins will go head to head next Monday in the qualifying final, the winner progressing straight to the grand final. The loser will have to back up Thursday vs the winner of the elimination final between 3rd place Team Ice Buckets and 4th Girl Germs.

Ravens Continue march to Top Spot
Werrington County Sonics vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
For very wet ice this was a good game. Streamlined Sonics with no subs up against Druids with a full set of subs. However as the ice was wet the running was reduced and the advantage of subs not so great. Druids had all the early advantage camping in offence and getting away good shots and chances. But it was sonics first to score through a Ben Robson intercept and pass to Tim Brown who broke away to score 1 on 1 for Sonics 6 minutes into the game. Just 3 minutes later Saxon Hooper squared away the game sneaking one through the keepers legs. 1-1 the score at half time. It took eight minutes for the next score with Kerry Baxter diving into the crease to knock Sonics into the lead. Just a minute later big Kosta Sourlas got a ball to Katie Laybutt who tapped in to make it 2-2 with 11 minutes to go. 2 minutes later some crisp passing between Damo Colyer, Steve Larter found an open Lauren Goulden to slot one in. 3-2 with only 9 minutes left on the clock. Tim Brown scorched a shot into the roof of the goals getting Sonics back on level terms 3-3, 2 minutes remaining. With only 20 seconds to go, a crucial penalty gave Druids the advantage as Scott Murray was sent for a high broom infringement. Druids won the face off and controlled OT, Saxon Hooper at the top drawing the defence, sliding it down to Nathan Lawler on the point to slot home and give Druids the OT win. 4-3 Ot good result for Druids as they push for 2nd spot and the crucial 2nd chance.

Richmond Ravens vs. Werrington Ninjas by Saxon Hooper
Ravens continue to improve and impress as they head to the top of the A division ladder with a 2-0 win over last season premiers the Werrington Ninjas. Sam Boer scored first for Ravens, slicing through the defence and collecting his own rebound to put it in, 1-0 10 minutes into the game. Ravens 2nd goal came from a collection of crisp 1-2s between Krys Lockhart and Sama Boer, with Sam Boer completing his double. 2 goals down and only 12 minutes in the game saw Ninjas increase their intensity creating some good chances, howver none were completed and the score finished 2-0 to Ravens.

B Division - Week 17
Katie Robson Scores First Ever Goal for Phoenix
Girl Germs vs Raptors by Louis Sultana
First ‘B’ grade game of the night saw the Raptors up against the Girl Germs. The Raptors again had no subs while Girl Germs fielded a very strong team. Many of the Girl Germs’ players had just returned from their recent triumph in the World Championships (Congratulations Girls!) so were looking pretty strong in this match. The first half was pretty even, with the game being played at both ends. Only some strong defense kept the game scoreless. About half way into the first half, a pass (a crap shot really) from Louis Sultana found Paul Stockbridge in front of goals. Paul making no mistake, slamming the ball past the keeper. Raptors 1-0. For the rest of the half, the Raptors held off a continued Girl Germs attack with excellent defense. The second half saw the Girl Germs searching for the equaliser, with the Raptors continuing to play smart, getting the ball away from their half but not looking for the second goal. Then midway into the half, a scramble in front of the Raptors goals saw an equaliser by the Girl Germs. Not sure who scored, 1-1. For the rest of the half, both teams went on the attack, looking for the match winner. It wasn’t to come, and the game was headed for OT. Overtime continued with both teams attacking without any success and it looked certain to end in a draw, until Paul Stockbridge slammed a ball towards the goals with Louis Sultana running onto the rebound off the back boards to guide it into the goals. Raptors 2-1 in overtime. The Raptors recorded their second win for the season with an excellent performance by all players. Big thanks to all those players who filled in for the Raptors during the World Championships. Missing some regular players, the Raptors recorded their first win of the season and sending another game into overtime. Great Effort.

Low Riders vs Team IceBucket by Saxon Hooper
With most of Low Riders away on Schoolies, they unfortunately forfeited to Team IceBucket handing them a 5-0 forfeit win.

Ice Devils vs Phoenix by Saxon Hooper
Due to the slackness of Ice Devils A graders, Ice devils were reduced to no subs vs an undermanned but strong Phoenix team. Saxon Hooper started the scoring for Ice Devils, a goal 5 minutes into the first half. Phoenix quickly hit back with 2 goals in 3 minutes to Damian Colyer. 2-1 to Phoenix half time. Damo completed his Hatrick 1 minute into the 2nd half 3-1 Phoenix. 3 minutes later after 137 B grade games Katie Robson got a pass from Matt Hellyer in front of the net and calmly slotted home her first ever B grade goal. With still 14 minutes to go Paul Stockbridge filling in for Ice Devils gave them some hope making it 4-2. However a goal to Matt Hellyer and a 2nd goal to Katie took the score to 6-2 and out of reach for the Ice Devils. Paul Stockbridge completed a double with only 20 seconds to go making it a high scoring 6-3 game for Phoenix.

Rangers Burn Sonics
Werrington County Sonics vs. Penrith City Rangers by Saxon Hooper
Rangers found another gear blowing away an undermanned Sonics 5-1.

Richmond Ravens vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Davin Harvey
Monday night saw the Ravens continue their form into the break with another win over the Glenmore Park Druids. Game started out slow for the Ravens, not their usual high-paced game we've come to expect. Druids took advantage, the pace certainly suiting their structured attack and for the first 10 minutes the Ravens were on the back foot. Ravens started putting their game together later in the half and evened out the pressure, some good one timers and a few hard shots were kept out with good keeping, but Ravens were certainly lifting. Game rounded out 0-0 in the first half. Even 2nd half to the 1st period. 2nd half saw Ravens again on the backfoot Jo going early in the 2nd half for highsticking. While Ravens certainly had the disadvantage, Dane grabbed a quick intercept off the defence and went 1 on 1 with keeper. Dane finished it nicely with a flick goal, just inside the near post...Still down 1 player Ravens kept the Druids at bay and continued to pressure the Druids goals, a 2nd opportunity broken down only with Kosta and the keeper combining well to freeze the scrambling attack. Ravens pressure continued well throughout the half, Druids not getting nearly as much time as in the first half. Late in the 2nd half, Katie Laybutt looking to take Karen Thomson's head off as a means to put Ravens off their game, left her a little dazed...terrible Druids' tactics, seeing it all too often {(:0P....wasn't enough though, Ravens holding onto a clean sheet. And just when Druids thought it was all over, Jo received a good hard pass in the slot, with a quick turn on the defender she was able to put the nail in the coffin. Druids made one last run with Saxon Hooper on a break away, only to get stick checked on the first and 2nd shot attempt. Game ending 2-0 saw Ravens come away with a generally untidy win, but you won't see any of us complaining. All the best for the rest of the season to all, but in particular the Ravens & Raptors! See you soon...

B Division - Week 13
Penguins Penguins Penguins
The Penguins vs Low Riders by Jason Wheeler
Phew! Youd be mad to expect an easy contest in this B Grade competition, and tonight was no exception. If this was AFL the score would have read The Penguins 2.4 def Low Riders 1.4 (the post was hit that many times). But of course if this were AFL then wed have to wear short shorts which when playing on ice would be incredibly unsafe, so the whole idea is ludicrous. Low Riders came into this match in 7th place with plenty to play for, while The Penguins seemed to be coasting at the top which made this a danger game. Generally, The Penguins have had the stick on Low Riders since the latter was promoted to B grade, with most games being decided by a single goal. Having said that, The Penguins all time greatest loss was a 5-0 demolition at the hands of Low Riders this time last year. On paper this was a pretty even match-up, though I couldnt spot Nathan Lawler or The Penguins Amran Sinha. The Penguins built up a load of pressure in the first five minutes which translated into a well orchestrated goal via el maestro Daniel Wong who made a typically weaving run to set up Jason Wheeler. Wheeler clubbed a shot from close range which seemed to leap at the keepers face-cage and drop behind the goal line. Penguins 1-0. This served only to spur the Low Riders into action, who throughout the game sent several shots fractionally over the cross-bar or into the post. In the second half, there were more end-to-end plays which consequently led to both teams tiring and The Penguins in particular looking flat. However, The Penguins were still able to muster some energy and set-up shop near the Low Riders goal, culminating in a goal to James Kristof. Rather than slam the ball toward the goal (as one particular Penguin did all night), Kristof caressed a deceptively paced ball between keeper and post from 15m out. Penguins 2-0 with 6 minutes left. Low Riders replied immediately with a fast break from the restart. Aaron Dymond slotted the goal from close range, though several Low Riders had frenzied shots in what looked like a melee. The result was carnage with Penguins strewn across the goal and a revved up Low Riders team desperate for a second goal. Penguins 2-1. The score remained the same at full-time with The Penguins controlling possession deep in defence and fending off a dogged Low Riders side. Lastly, if this were AFL then The Penguins team song wouldve been Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice (poor taste knows no bounds). Its a good period for The Penguins and its a pleasure to have a team thats committed to turning up every week. The Penguins are now preparing for their fiercest rivals, Team Ice Bucket. Next week, these two sides will compete for broomballs version of The Ashes, the inaugural Buckets-Penguins Trophy.

Ice Bogans on Fire
Ice Bogans vs. Huskies by Josh Newell
A great start to the game with 2 new girls Liz & Casey starting as defenders never to be on the ice before with exellent saves and passes to the attacking players the attack goes on with a pass to josh who scores the first point of the game. straight from the hit off adam gets the ball and goes for the second goal and in it goes. And another great hit off goes to the Bogans with another shot at goal but with great defending from the devils it was saved and passsed to one of their attacking players with great passing and a big swing from Kieran a point is scored. Devils get the ball again shooting shot after shot with great saves by Grant Scott and Dudz. One the last attempt of 1st half, it goes in. At half with great planning the Bogans go on strong with multible attempts at goals with not one but two goals coming from our lead defender Dudz leaving the score 4-2 to the Bogans great game by both teams and good luck to the Devils.

A Division - Week 12
Sonics from Nowhere in OT
Werrington County Sonics vs. Richmond Ravens by Saxon Hooper
Ravens dominated this game, went ahead early and looked well in control. A single break by Tim Brown made it 1-1 at full time. Just seconds in, Brown broke from the face off and scored the OT winner. Heart breaker for Ravens.

Werrington Ninjas vs. Penrith City Rangers by Ryan Findlayson
Ninjas missing Pete Yabsley, Shannon Vost, Josh Drinkall, and Gemma Butler-Flemming meant they were always going to struggle against the standard lightning pace of the Rangers. But they found some confidence when they got on the board first, Bec Cashel deflecting in a Ben Eagleston cross. Ninjas then looked confident, but this confidence backfired when they turned the ball over in their own half, and with two un-marked Rangers standing in front of goals, the result was always going to be the equalizer. But still Ninjas played with confidence. With some strong forechecking Ninjas forced a turnover. Linda Bell getting the intercept and the ball falling nicely for Ryan Findlayson, who seemed to have all the time in the world to drill the ball into the back of the net, and give Ninjas the lead again. So this was the end of the first half. The second half was clearly a Rangers dominant half. The ball rarely leaving their attacking half. But Ninjas kept numbers behind the ball, which meant Rangers had very few real scoring opportunities. Although, Liam Golding did deserve a goal when his lightning backhand shot was somehow saved from hitting the top corner by Kieran McDonald. A lot of goal mouth scrambling saw no addition to the score, and the Ninjas held on for an unlikely victory 2-1.

Huskies Win Minus Peter Yabsley
Team IceBucket vs Girl Germs by Saxon Hooper
Girl Germs secured a much needed win just before they head off to the World Championships in Minnesota. The game was a tough 1-0 affair and a great tune up for the girls. Was only the 2nd out right defeat of the season for Team IceBucket.

Low Riders vs. Huskies by Jason Hall
Last time these 2 teams met the Low riders dominated the Huskies to get their first win for the Season and with the Huskies regular scorer Pete Yabsley away, it was easy to think that this might be the loss that ruined the Huskies season. Luckily for the Huskies they managed to field a full team, while the Low riders were down one girl. Giving a bit more confidence back and focusing them for a chance at the win. The game started well and was closely fought. Huskies dominating possession and having a couple of good chances through some structured play. (A first this season). With Low Riders counter attacking with speed to put pressure on the defence. The defence held out well though thanks to some fast running from Ben Hall and restricted the Low Riders to outside shots. Still the game was in the balance and could have gone either way, at least until Glen Butler Flemming stepped it up a notch to score the Huskies first 2 goals. Not to be out done Jason Hall chipped in a nice cross from Jason Lessles for the Huskies third. Before Glen sealed the game, putting away a lucky shot for his third and the Huskies fourth goal. Low Riders managed to peg one back late in the game and threatened to get another. But Huskies came away with a much needed 4 - 1 win. Keeping them in touch with the top 4.

Phoenix vs. The Penguins by Jason Wheeler
The Penguins 5 Phoenix 0. The Penguins improved on their 1-0 win over Phoenix in Round 5 with a comprehensive 5-0 victory. Having said that, Phoenix fielded 5 players and 1 sub for an entire game while The Penguins had 6 and 3. The first placed Penguins were fresh off a 3-1 win against Ice Devils while a 5-player Phoenix snatched a 2-0 win against Raptors to be second. A full strength Penguins outfit expected a gritty performance from Phoenix and didn't get carried away with a 1 player advantage. From the opening whistle, both sides ran hard and tackled harder. Sara Kristof demonstrated the major benefit of wearing a face cage when she was hit high. Needless to say, words were exchanged. The Penguinscapitalised against a 4 man Phoenix with a classic fast break by Daniel Wong. It was actually a tight first half, which could have been more than 1-0 but for a determined Phoenix keeper. The Penguins defended confidently much to the relief of their fill-in keeper. In the second half, the floodgates opened with relentless attacks against a tiring Phoenix side. An outstanding volley by Troy Viney (see Marco Bresciano's miracle goal vs Bahrain for an idea) made it 2-0. Sarah Kristof bamboozled a tight Phoenix defence with some fancy footwork and a deft finish for 3-0. James Kristof unleashed a personal Blitzkrieg fuelled by frustration at watching from the sidelines for 3 weeks, with a strike from the blue line that would have made the elite players proud. Finally, Daniel Wong after refusing to bake the cake decided to ice it instead and end the game at 5-0. The Penguins MVP was Amran Sinha, who played his best defensive game this season (no Amran, there's no prize money or appearance fee). Also, Helen Smith didn't miss a tackle all night. It was a night of firsts for the Penguins (our first 5-0 victory in a while, first keeper for 3 seasons, and the first time EVER that nobody yelled editors note: You sure James Kristof was playing ?). It was a rare night when everything worked and everyone contributed, and 6 different Penguins have now scored in the past two games.

Ice Bogans Continue their Good First up Season
Ice Bogans vs. Huskies by Sharon Jones
With only 5 players on the ice for the Bogans to start the game, the Huskies had the advantage and was into attack early. It proved to be a tough fight for the Bogans to ward off the onslaught from the opposition and eventually the Huskies broke the defence and were successful in scoring the first goal. Finally, with 6 players on the ice(what does take you so long Adam) the rest of the first half was evenly matched and the score remained the same. Second half was better with the Bogans stringing together some good work and this set up the pass from Dudz to Grant who landed a great goal. From this point the game switched form side to side with the Bogans having to pull back in defence many times due to having players penalised and again down to 5. But that was not enough to stop them but made them lift their game even more. Then Dudz was able to gain possession to take the ball all the way into the goal and soon after that a fast breakaway form Josh sealed the game with another goal for the Bogans leaving the final score 3-1.

Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Carney Clownz by Scott Powell
Knights Defeat Clowns 3-2 in an evenly matched Contest. Both teams started the game with a flurry of action, with both teams having attacking runs, but it was the Knights who scored first with Scott taking a shot from the deep. The Knights missed their next few opportunities and the Clownz scored off a very fast break, to even the score. It remained 1-1 at half time. The second half started out much the same way as the first, with both teams each spending large periods of time in their attacking quarter, both missing multiple attempts at goal. The Knights broke the dreadlock, scoring off the back of a long defensive period with a well run goal to Mark, which was soon followed by a clever goal to Pierce, giving the Knights a 3-1 lead with 12 minutes remaining. The Clownz were quick to respond, scoring off another fast break down the middle of the ice to make the score 3-2, with 9 minutes remaining. Neither team ceased with their attacks, and both keepers had to make multiple ninja-esque saves. The Clownz dominated posession in the final minutes, but the Knights scrambling defense was enough to keep them out. Final score Knights who say Broomball 3, Carney Clownz 2.

The Replacements vs. Ice Devils by Tahlia McDonald
It was a good game from both sides, plenty of near missed shots by each team. With barely any of the normal team, Devils got up in a 2-1 win. Thanks to Mark and Pearce.

A Division - Week 11
Rangers in OT
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Richmond Ravens by Davin Harvey
Big game for Ravens Monday night, haven't been in form of late. Game started hard and fast for Ravens piling on a lot of pressure, creating some good chances early, but unable to convert. Druids did well holding out the Raven's early onslaught and started forcing more pressure onto the Raven's midway through the half. A quick turnover in Druids half resulted in a goal, Sam Boer with the steal and conversion. Game was pretty tight for the rest of the first half, Ravens continued to force opportunities, probly could've gained more moving it around looking for their chance. Druids doing well in the dying minutes of the half to break down Raven's opportunities and with a minute to go Nathan Lawler broke through alone to get a nice flick goal past the keeper. 1-1 at half time. Ravens feeling ripped off. 2nd half started strong again, Ravens with the early attacking opportunities, James Dymond scoring early with a good one timer through traffic. Ravens ahead again 2-1 and firing. Druids battled through the half creating some good opportunities, Ravens caught napping in D a few times, but it was the Ravens who put on another goal through James Dymond again, good hard shot into the far post corner, Jo with the assisting pass and motivational abuse to support James on his 2nd goal. 3-1 Ravens and looking good. The remainder of the half was more Druids hunting down a reply. This controversial reply came all too late with about 5 seconds to go, Claire Herborn scoring from a one time air swing and the ball deflecting off her foot. Crazy, but by the rules okay.... 3-2 final result, good fast pressured game for Ravens for a lot of it. Look forward to next week.

Werrington County Sonics vs. Penrith City Rangers by Liam Golding
OK, so we know I'm not the captain, but in Jimmy's absence, I guess I get this pleasure. The last game of the night was us, (Rangers,) up against the sort of half decent team commonly known as the Sonics. We were running a little low on the subs, but when we started, I saw that they were worse off than us, without anyone on the bench at all. Kerry ruined the Sonics whole game strategy, when she let me win the first drop ball. And from there we had a really tight fun game. Having changed our game strategy this week, we got caught out a few times as the Sonics made some fast breaks through, over or around our back lines. They scored first by this method too. We made an interchange when we had the ball, but only moments later they got the ball and capitalised on our missing man. Kerry Baxter rifling a shot into the top corner. In the second half we got our act together and controlled much of the play, with some good control, where Sonics changed to long through balls, and made us chase hard even more. However, with some persistent attacks, and near misses off the post / multiple posts, we finally scored a goal to equalise somewhere in the second half. We rounded out the second half at one all, and so at so much pain to Nathan (the ref), we progressed to overtime. Both teams played a bit tentatively, until Daniel got the ball over the half way and looked up to see no deep defender for the Sonics, so he pushed the ball from heaps far out and got us the points. It was a really fun and good game, and even though I know it's gonna hurt tomorrow, I would love to play these games all the time. Coming next week...not me writing... and aren't you all so thankful

Low Riders Reverse Round 1 Result
Low Riders vs Girl Germs by Saxon Hooper
Low Riders used their pace to great advantage and score a 1-0 win over Girl Germs.

Phoenix vs. Raptors by Andrew Chapman
10 minutes before the game, and there were only 2 Phoenix players. By the time we were on the ice to play, there were 4 of us. We managed to get a ring-in keeper, so only 1 player down for the game wasn't too bad. So off we went on our merry way against what appeared to be a full-strength Raptors side. I was not content with playing back all game, so after a couple of failed sweep shots at the keeper, I was still unmarked for my lucky third, which went in to put Phoenix up 1-0. Awesome efforts from Krys, Matt and Kristy kept most Raptor attacks at bay, and some great reflex keeping from Nathan kept the shots out. The end of the game was drawing near, with Phoenix trying real, real hard to keep their lead. We were tired like you would not believe... a player short and no subs will do that to you. Then we managed a 3 player break down the boards. I received a pass from Matt, assisted mid-air by Raptor fast man Louis, and slotted a nice shot between the keeper's legs from the red dot. 2-0 Phoenix. Less frantic, we were content to play around with the ball around the back boards till the buzzer went, and Phoenix miraculously wins another game with half our team gone. Good game Raptors - you were unlucky not to get at least 1 goal on the board.

Ice Devils vs. The Penguins by Jason Wheeler
The Penguins ground out a well deserved win tonight, the sequel to their 4-2 win in round 2. Boasting a near full strength side that has been together for 3 seasons made the difference against a team still adjusting to B grade. Both teams were well entrenched in the top 4 with the Ice Devils on a mid season surge. The game was ON! from the get-go with Amran Sinha showing that he's back in black by rifling a scoring shot early for The Penguins. Jason Wheeler christened his new stick by scoring from a sharp angle for a 2-0 H/T lead. Except for a few defensive lapses, the Ice Devils displayed the intensity that will see them outscore a few more sides this season, while The Penguins were looking fairly comfortable. The tempo remained the same in the second term with The Penguins controlling possession and generating several opportunities. Against the run of play, and with Saxon lurking deep in attack, he gladly accepted a pass from yours truly, beat the scrambling defence and converted to narrow the margin to 2-1. Not to be outdone, Daniel Wong had one of those not falling over games that he's been threatening to unleash and sent home an unstoppable missile to seal the deal for a 3-1 Penguins victory. Special mentions go to our two 40 minuters Sara Kristof and Helen Smith for commanding performances.

The Replacements Back on Song
Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Ice Devils by Kristyn Coleman and Catherine McDonald
With only 4 devils on the ice at the start of play we knew it was going to be a tough one from the start. Having Shallon step in to fill the gap left in our team was a blessing because we certainly weren’t willing to play the whole game a man down. The game was off to a quick start as everyone was everywhere. The knights came pelting down the ice with attempts at goal seemingly every minute. Great team work had them moving the ball quickly to where they wanted to be, but unfortunately nothing could quite make it right over the red line tonight… Still first half and neither team has yet to score. Out of nowhere Chris uses his strength and put it to good use by belting the ball at goals. If I were the goalie I wouldn’t want to be in front of that ball. Half time came with the Devils leading 1-0. Second half started off slow, as the devils were trying to hold on to the drink and breather break but as everyone was getting worked up the peace didn’t last. The knights were back attacking, attempting to score again. Once again they were unsuccessful as Catherine and her quick reflexes saved the ball in between her feet smack on the red line. Nathan, as always, is playing his best and is a non-stop running machine. Kristyn was told to go for a run, lucky that she listened this time as she assisted Nathan aka little man to a great goal (I can’t believe this was his first for his broomball career way to go Nath). After that everyone was still going strong. Kieran having a fall and taking down Pearce with him was sent off for 2min. It wasn’t a worry for us, as Keiren wanted a breather anyway. With only 5 players on the field it was all about defense. We managed to hold them out of goals, just, even though the entire 2 minutes was spent with all knights standing in front of goals attempting shots. With Kieran back on the field we could attack again. But Kristyn ruined the moment by picking up the ball. With 6 minutes to go it was still 2 – 0. No one was getting passed us. Kristyn will never learn that you cannot throw yourself in front of players whilst attempting to get a hold of the ball and was sent off for 2 minutes. She was thirsty anyway. With less then 5 minutes to go the knights were putting innumerous futile attempts at getting 1 on the board. Ice Devils leaving the field with smiles upon their faces, whilst looking at the scoreboard, 2 – 0 Ice Devils win.

Ice Bogans vs. Tigers by Josh Newell
In a thrilling start the tigers scored after just 2 minutes taking advantage of the Bogans being 2 players short. With 10min to go of the first half the bogans team filled up and it seemed to lift the sides spirts, immediately scoring to equalise. Thanks to Scotty in the second half all members of the Ice Bogans stepped it up to the next level. The Tigers well on the way to scoring their 2nd goal, were intercepted by Ally who gave a great pass to set up a second goal which was scored by Scotty. 2-1 Bogans which is how the game score ended after 10min of consant turn overs from team to team. Great game by the Tigers and well done to all the Ice Bogans you really stepped up this week.

The Replacements vs. Carney Clownz by Alison Jones
Most of this game was just fun with lots of laughs from both sides with each other. It started out seeing more possession from the Clownz who were down a girl as well, but they were unable to convert any opportunity at goal. As time quickly ticked away, it looked like the first half would end up without anything on the scoreboard until the Replacements decided to wake up and make an attack as David scored with an assist from Scott 16 seconds before the buzzer. Second half was only underway for 30 seconds before Dave scored his second goal of the game. Carney Clownz pulled together answering back with one goal and then not too long after another from Jacob equalised the score. They had exactly 15 seconds to enjoy this though as Dave made another break and scored again for the Replacements. The Clownz tried hard to fight back with some great shots but Joel, in keeping, brilliantly saved one, two and then three goal attempts leaving the final score 3 - 2 to Replacements.

Sonics - Master's of the 1-0 win
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Richmond Ravens by Saxon Hooper
Always tight encounters between these teams. Ravens starting fast and aggressive, Druids working there way into the game, resulting in an even first half. Ravens grabbed the advantage right on half time with Dane Hansen tipping in giving them the lead. 2nd half heated up and the game was soon even, Saxon Hooper scoring with his new Dgel stick. 1-1 was how it finished. OT was tight, some awesome D saved both teams especially one diving effort across the goal mouth by Lauren Goulden. 1-1 at the end of OT. Great game to play, fast and fun.

Werrington County Sonics vs. Penrith City Rangers by Saxon Hooper
Sonics won 1-0, goal to Ben Robson assisted by John Skiadas.

Girl Germs & Ice Devils in OT
Huskies vs Raptors by Jason Hall
Early on this looked to be an all but impossible game for the Huskies to win. Rolling penalties on an already under strength team gave the Raptors the kind of start teams hope for. Being 2 players up over the Huskies for most of the first half. With attacking runs from the Raptors going deep into Huskies territory, Huskies maintained a tight defence and held possession where possible. All this looked like it would be to no avail though as another penalty saw the Raptors go 3 players up for about 20 seconds in the 1st half. Some rushed play from the Raptors saw the ball turned over though and the Huskies managed to hold onto it until some players could get back on. Half time came with neither side scoring. Raptors feeling unlucky and Huskies confident as a late inclusion saw them start the second half with a full team for the first time in the game. It was the Raptors who picked it up first in the second half though. Coming close to scoring a couple of times. A late swipe from the Huskies keeper Jason Hall stopping the ball just before the line on one occasions. Huskies seemed to focus after this and soon had the first goal of the game thanks to Jason Lessels. Another goal coming a little later from a light deflection in front of goals and the Huskies had a surprising 2 - 0 lead deep in the second half. With about 4 minutes to go Raptors clawed one back with a fast break and one on one with the keeper, to keep the game exiting. Huskies managed to hold out for a much needed win though, while the Raptors would feel they missed a great opportunity for their first win.

The Penguins vs. Girl Germs by Saxon Hooper
Girl Germs who beat Penguins in round 1 were hoping to turn their season around after a couple of defeats. Girl Germs controlled posession and territory but could not score, Penguins always looked dangerous on the counter with their speedy blokes. However it remained 0-0 for the first half. With 8:45 to go while Saxon was trying to inspire (ie. not watching) his girls to greater efforts, that the first goal was scored. Taking the ball as it passed over the half-way line, Jo started her sprint down the wing, only just managing to escape being pinned to the wall by Penguins defender Helen Smith. Jo followed the wall to the corner, Helen in hot pursuit the whole way. Karen and Kerry moved towards the net, looking for the pass, followed closely by the speedy Penguin defence. Running the ball behind the goal, Jo managed to evade Helen's enthusiastic swipes at the ball. Next in line to take her on, Troy Viney was left spinning as Jo carried the ball out from behind the net, to pop out beside goal keeper Tim Roffey. With Kerry and Karen keeping Penguins busy in a confused goal area, Jo drew the ball out and coolly slotted it over Tim's right shoulder. However the jubilation was short lived as Daniel Wong made a break for Penguins, managing not to do a Wongy (that is to fall over for no apparent reason) got past the defence and slotted the goal. 1-1 full time and another game into OT. Game ebbed and flowed in OT and looked to be heading to a draw when Lauren Goulden pounced to intercept a lose ball on half way. With no Penguins in front of her she slotted the ball into the empty net from the blue line. 2-1 OT win for the Girls with Germs.

Ice Devils vs. Low Riders by Saxon Hooper
Low Riders were all over Ice Devils in the first half, however only got the lead late in the half with a goal to Nathan Lawler. They continued to dominate the game and were unlucky not to go further ahead on severl occassions. With only 9 minutes on the clock in the game, Saxon Hooper put in a big shot that was deflected in by Pearce Van De POl for his first B grade goal of his career. 1-1 was how the match finished, the third OT of the night. Low Riders unlucky not to win in OT when a neat lob shot by Nathan Lawler cleared the last defender but hit the post and bounced out. With two minutes to go a mix up at the back between Josh and Nathan saw Sam Boer chop one in from the blue line giving Ice Devils the extra point. 2-1 in OT for Ice Devils.

Huskies get it in OT
Ice Devils vs Huskies by Jason Hall
Huskies had half the team turn up late, but due to some rushing were lucky to start the game only one player down. This was soon fixed as the rest of the team arrived to give the huskies some much need subs. Not to mention more then 1 girl for once. The game was a sloppy one with wayward passes from both teams being intercepted, especially for the Huskies, the players attacking the goals, but leaving the ball behind. This always seems to make scoring a little difficult. As usual Pete opened up the scoring for the Huskies with a great effort, The Huskies managed quite a few more, but good saves from The Ice Devils keeper and the kind of shooting that makes spectators scared for The Huskies kept the scores at 1 nil. The Devils had their share of opportunities, but Amy Ward managed to make the saves when it counted and it looked like the one goal would be all the points the Huskies needed to get a win. That was until Saxon scored the equaliser midway through the second half. Both teams searched for the winning goal late in the half and there were a few chances for the Devils when the Huskies had players sent off. Luckily though the Huskies managed to hold out and this one went into overtime. Overtime saw the Huskies dominate. Having already had 2 draws, the Huskies are starting get a feel for what's needed in these minutes and controlled the ball well. Having a couple of shots on goal. Half way through overtime Simmo managed to lob the ball over the top of the Ice Devils defence for the win. 2 - 1 in overtime for the Huskies.

The Replacements Back on Song
Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Huskies by Jason Hall
Huskies Versus Knights always seems to take the Huskies to the limit. It may be just me, but it always feels like young speed versus old people persistence. (Apologies to the young members on the Huskies team) The knights speed in attacking caught the Huskies off guard early in the first half. There attacks seeming to walk straight through the Huskies defence time and again. Amy Ward was able to keep the Huskies in it early on with some great saves, but inevitably the Knights got a break from half way and were able to run at the goals and put one away for a 1 - 0 lead. With the Huskies having no subs the old timers looked like they would struggle even worse and that this might be the start of a goal spree for the Knights. Luckily Huskies do have a couple of youngsters on the team, who stepped up. With special mention going to Ben Hall who seemed to be running everywhere. At one stage I just let him mark his player and mine. (He was doing a better job at it then me) With this Huskies started to attack more. Some outside Shooting from Karl, Mick and Jason being blocked time and again by a persistent Knights team huddled in front of goals. Quite a few close chances were just missed by Huskies and it looked like they may fail to score the equaliser. Luckily about half way through the second half Michael Freeburn mopped up the ball which rebounded from a Knight off a Jason Hall shot to even the game up at 1 all. Both teams picked up again with chances coming to both sides. Good defence saw this go into overtime though. This was horrible for the Huskies, with a disagreement erupting over who would be on the ice. ( No one wanted to.) Once a 4 was chosen Huskies maintained possession and had a couple of shots on goal. Ben Hall finished off the game with a great break up the side (supported verbally if not physically from his own half by the rest of the Huskies) for a one on one at the Knights goal. Calmly slotting it away to give the Huskies the win. 2 - 1 in overtime.

Ice Bogans vs. Flat Whites by Shannan Heinitz
The second half ended 1-1 with both teams scoring terrific breakaway goals. So it went into overtime. A mistake by the Ice Bogans 3 minutes into overtime that left their goal wide open, allowed Josh Yabsley to lob the ball from near the half way line, over the opposition and rolling into goals, giving the game to the Flat Whites.

The Replacements vs. Tigers by Alison Jones
The Replacements dominated from the beginning playing much better than than they did last week. There was more thinking going on this week where the passes were going to and therefore had more consistency in the game. Only 4 minutes into the game and Chris hit a great shot from the side which slid past the keeper to give the Replacements their first goal. Five minutes later David added to the score with his 1st goal, then scored his second with a great pass from Joel only minutes lafter. With Emma still out this week and Megan on the sideline with an ankle injury, the other 3 girls all took turns in the goals. Congratulations girls, there were some great saves by all of you and no goals let in for the 1st half. The 2nd half was more defensive tactics and even though there was still some great attacking from the team, the only goal came from the opposition with Jole White from the Tigers scoring with 46 seconds left on the clock. Final score 3-1 to the Replacements.

Must win games, won for Sonics and Ninjas
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
Single goal to Tim Brown midway through the last period saw Sonics grab a 1-0 win vs Glenmore Park Druids.

Richmond Ravens vs. Werrington Ninjas by Ryan Findlayson
Ravens took the early lead finding three of them unmarked, to draw the keeper and take the shot into the empty net. The most part of the first half continued to be Ravens, even a penalty against them, only evened up the game. Ninjas did have a couple of chances, but like Ravens, couldn't finish. The second half proved to be a much better contest. The highlight being the amount of good hard contests for 50-50 loose balls. Early on in the half one of these fell the Ninjas way, Pete Yabsley firing a rocket after working the ball down field, to level up the scores. Both teams again creating chances, but both defenses standing up to the challenge. As the game time started to die away. Another 50-50 ball went Ninjas way, and a quick center pass found Pete Yabsley with all the time in the world to give Ninjas the lead, and hold out for the 2-1 win.

Team IceBucket - Masters of the Draw
Huskies vs The Penguins by James Kristof
Huskies started strong, controlling the play through Pete Yabsley and Glen Butler-Fleming. Having held out for a few minutes, Huskies took the early lead when Pete Yabsley received the ball beyond the blue line on the left side of the rink, lined-up the top right-corner and hammered the ball into the back of the net, 1-0 Huskies. Only a few minutes later Daniel Wong levelled up the match with a goal in the bottom corner, 1-1. Just before the end of the first half, Amran Sinha got the Penguins second, again in the bottom corner, 2-1 Penguins at half time. The second half saw Penguins control the bulk of the play, only to be denied goals by a scrambling Huskies defence, while the Huskies never really looked like scoring an equaliser until the dying minutes, where they were held out by some good goal-keeping by Tim Roffey. The match ending 2-1 to the Penguins who stretch their winning streak to 5.

Ice Devils vs. Girl Germs by Saxon Hooper
Girl Germs controlled the majority of the posession, had the most shots on goal, dominated the territory however came away with a 1-0 loss. Unfortunately for the Girls they just couldnt convert their chances and the single power play goal to Saxon Hooper gave Ice Devils a much needed win, closing the gap on the top 4 teams. Great keeping by Kieran McDonald, who for once must have been watching the game saved the Ice Devils on numerous occassions. 1-0 Ice Devils.

Phoenix vs. Team IceBucket by Andrew Chapman
Phoenix turned up with another strong side against Team Ice Bucket. Except we didn't have Joel, but it was still a strong side. I don't remember too much, as I spent most of the game trying to stay on my feet with my new shoes. Unfortunately for me nobody else had that problem, and Ice Bucket enjoyed many runs through the Phoenix defence, and around me. Liam was suffering some vision issues, with most of his shots well off target. Except the one that I blocked. Phoenix didn't have many shots. We got put off because the Ice Bucket keeper Alex Crook kept stopping them. Liam blocked a blinder of a shot from yours truly, and apparently I got him in the ribs, and it hurt real bad, so that'll teach you to block my shots. Eventually the game ended in a draw, and we played some overtime. More missed shots, more running around, and we finished again in a draw. Game over, and we both get 2 points.

Tigers ravage Ice Devils
Tigers vs. Ice Devils by Clair Herborn
With a bunch of newbies and returning invalids on team, team Tigers triumphed above thier competitors, winning with a final advantage of four goals. From the onset, despite their clear disadvantage in terms of experience and fitness (ok... I'm speaking purely for myself here...), the vastness of team numbers accruing in the Tigers den meant that no opponent, however fit, could triumph. Off the high horse now. Here's the game play: First half: Joel (Tigers), assisted by the brand new Oliver, made a stunning score early on in the match, setting their team off into the game on a high note. Not long after, feeling slighted by the newbies magnanimity, Leanne (apparently assissted by myself, although i have little recollection of this) slammed another one into the net in favour of the Tigers. Kieren, seemingly out of range, or envy, or both, clearly saw it fit to score a quick goal for the Ice Devils, trying to even the scores before break. Sadly, his efforts were quashed by Sally, who, merely seconds later swept up yet another goal for the Tigers. Second half: Craig, assissted by the speedy Joel (oh, what a wonderful and welcome addition to your team!!!) seemed to slip one past the net before the game play whistle had finished sounding, taking the Tigers further into the lead. Next up, clearly feeling left out of this goal scoring bonanza, Stocky saw it fit to take a nice clear single handed sweep for the Tigers, taking them firmly into the lead 5:1 as the end of match whistle was blown. The penalties: being a proud member of the Tigers, I am pleased to say that the first penalty of the match was not, for once it seems, from a member of our team. Scott, from the Ice Devils, was sent off for having a high stick. This instance of bad play, however, was trumped by Sally's incidence of 'tripping', earning the Ice-Devils a free shot at goals in a penalty (which failed to produce any advantage for their team). Lastly, Stocky, once again feeling like he needed to be a part of the action, was sent off for slashing well into the second half.

The Replacements vs. Flat Whites by Alison Jones
Seemed to be a different team to last week in the first half as there wasn't much order in our play but was very erratic with most players seeming a bit lost on the ice. This gave the Flat Whites the majority of possession and with 3 minutes to go to half time they scored a goal, leaving the score 1-0. The second half started out much like the first but with the Replacements having a little more enthusiasm and lots of encouragement from the sidelines they started to string together some better plays. Finally with only 7 minutes to go, they pulled out the team work, with Alison passing to Scott who passed to Dave scoring the equaliser. The rest of the time was fairly even, Mel showing some great defence work and our attack being unlucky to score again with some good solid shots at goals. Full time score was 1 all and into o/t we go. Flat Whites had the first opportunity to score but a great save by Hoppy kept the game going. Then after about 4 minutes of play a great pass from Hoppy to Dave saw the Replacements score the winning goal. 2-1 to Replacements in o/t.

Crikey - Who was that Masked Ninja
Werrington Ninjas vs. Werrington County Sonics by The Masked Ninja
It was Monday, the day Steve Irwin died. "Crikey" Ninja's said "weve got to play Sonics." They had barely wiped the tears from their eyes when the most unbelievable and atrocious event occrurred. The Ninjas Keeper picked up the ball and promptly threw it in the goals. 1-0 Sonics. What was wrong with the Ninjas ? Oh there were no girls on the ice. That problem was soon solved with three girls finally stealing themselves away from the mirror and getting on the ice. At least they looked pretty. Not that anyone would have noticed.. helmets and all.. etc.. The game itself was not particulary pretty. Lets blame the ice. While most of the game was fairly even, the Ninjas just couldnt score. Against the run of play, Tim Brown ran past the Ninjas defence and passed to Scott Murray who was sniping on the far post. In. Unbelievable, Inconceivable, Sonics 2-0 after 7 minutes. Again posession exchanged between the teams but nobody could score. Both keepers stepped up and wouldnt step down (there isnt much room to step up and down in the goal crease). The game ended disapointingly for Ninjas because the lost. If they had won, they would have been happier, but they didnt, Sonics did. The End.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Penrith City Rangers by Saxon Hooper
Rangers have spanked Druids 4-1 in their last two encounters and have been in good form since their great run at the final last year. Druids for the first time in two seasons finally had everyone show at the same time to have a complete team. Now because of the last two heavy defeats Druids adjusted their play to make sure they werent hurt on the turnover by the speedy Rangers. Hence a dour start to the game. As per the last two games Druids scored first, Katie Laybutt laying back to Saxon Hooper to miss hit into the goals (doesnt matter how it get there as long as it does.. right ??) 1-0 Druids after 12 minutes. With only two on the clock Damian Colyer got the the first of his double, making it 2-0 to Druids at half time. Druids maintained their defensive formation and frustrated Rangers more and more as the clock wound down. With 10 to go in the second Damo scored his 2nd getting the ball from good forecheck pressure and nailing it home. 3-0 Druids, the past 4-1 results looking very distant now. With only four minutes to go, a goal mouth scramble saw an obstructive fall call on Tim Ollerton putting Rangers on a power play. Rangers got posession, got the ball into the danger zone where a scramble saw the ball pushed into the net by Tracy Ivin from Lisa Price. 3-1 Druids with 3 minutes to go, no further goals in the game. Good results for Druids, well done to Clair Herborn who made a good A division debut.

Team IceBucket Steal a Draw
Low Riders vs The Penguins by James Kristof
Penguins having won 3 in a row were looking to consolidate their good form for a place at the top of the ladder against a Low Riders team who have caused trouble for the Penguins in seasons past. Penguins got off to a great start when Daniel Wong pounced on a Low Riders mistake to score early, and then with new dad Troy Viney, celebrating the birth of his daughter last week with a crunching goal to make it 2-0. A few minutes later Penguins had a fast break when James Kristof tried the coverted "Saxon" move, only to be denied by a spectacular diving stick save from Low Riders keeper John Bracs. 2 minutes later, a repeat play occurred, this time James Kristof scoring with a "Saxon" move via the inside post, Penguins 3-0 at half time. Early in the second half Low Riders seemed to control the play as the brought the score back to 3-1. From there the game seemed to be in a stalemate until Daniel Wong scored his second goal after a fast break, 4-1. Low Riders finished the game hard, pegging another goal back to make it 4-2 with 5 minutes left. Scrambling defence and desperate offenCe saw a hard finish to yet another good game between these two teams, the game ending 4-2 to the Penguins.

Raptors vs. Team IceBucket by Liam Golding
Last game of the night, (finally,) was TIB V Raptors. No expectations, because I can't think now. Anyhow, it was a cracker of a game. It started off pretty fast-paced, with both teams making some good opportunities. For once we (TIB) played a game where we didn't just run as fast as we could. Not that we never did that, get real, but we actually worked the ball around a bit. I was so pleased. Ü Raptors weren't to be denied anything either. They cut us open a few times and did it with support on the way through. Defence held tight though, an neither team came up with a really good shot on goal (that i can remember...) Then late into the half, Raptors starting to get the upper hand as our defence started to lose track of their billion people running around. The first goal came to Raptors , (forgive me I can't remember who,) in what I call an unlucky goal as it really only trickled through the keeper's legs and just over the line. Quick response from TIB however, resulted in an equaliser that was a breakaway, but with the same result; that it only just trickled in at the other end, with a flying Sultana unable to reach it in time, as I tried to wish it over the line faster. So half time came at one all. Second half was more of the same again good solid defence from both teams squashed most chances of a run at or shot on goal. I reckon Mark Price was great for our side, defending superbly. Raptors pushed harder as the clock wound on, and somewhere around half way through the second half, they got a man up advantage on our defence, and utilised it fully, putting away a second goal. The time started to go faster now, winding down all the way to zero, with Raptors keeping a pretty good handle on things. Defence was still pretty solid from both teams, with strong attacks unable to break through. And Davin, next time, please don't flick the ball over me. I lost count of the times you did it, and you should know that white man can't jump. Anyway, we conceded a penalty for Russel being a hothead somewhere in the midddle of all that, but that just made things more intense. Just as his was up a Raptor got one for being naughty too. Nothing came of them though. It was really down to the final minute or so when we got the ball and went for an all out attack. Scrambling play by pretty much everyone meant that the ball ended up just outside the circle, and amidst some 30 odd flying arms, legs, and sticks, Lisa got a bit of stick on the ball, and found the back of the net with three seconds to spare. Raptors probably feel robbed, but I think we deserved it, for persistence at the very least. So into overtime, four on the field meant running up, and down, and up, and down... You get the drift... Davin again made me sprint all the way back, and then fell over (Editors Note: Sounds like a classic case of doing a Wongy.. or being overcome by wongyness(which causes you to fall over for no apparent reason)). How rude. No goals scored as it was pretty much a three on three finish, but a few heart thumping moments to go with it. Looking forward to the rematch, hopefully not at the end of the night when everyone's buggered. Final Score: 2 - 2

Ice Bogans win on Debut
Ice Bogans vs. Ice Devils by Ali Jones
An evenly matched game with many opportunities for both sides. Unfortunately not many were successful but did see Ice Bogans score first with a goal from captain Josh and then not too long after a goal from the Ice Devils Kieran evened up the score. There were many laughs had as players were slipping and falling in the most amusing ways and with the score ending in 1 all we were hoping there was more to come. The Ice Bogans were a little confused how O/T worked but once they got underway it didnt take long for Mel to score the winning goal. Final score in O/T was 2-1 to the Ice Bogans.

The Replacements vs. Carney Clownz by Ali Jones
Great game to watch with plenty of action from both sides. The Replacements played great team work with good passing and support for each other. David scored the first goal of the game with an assist from sister Amy. Another goal before half time came with a great pass from Alison to Joel who hit a brilliant shot past the keeper. Half time score 2-0. The second half only saw one more goal of the game which again came from Joel who scored with an excellent shot from the side leaving the score 3-0. This final score did not reflect how tough the game really was. The Clownz played extremely well but were unlucky not to be successful at scoring any goals.

Werrington Ninjas First Time Winners
Grand Final: Werrington Ninjas vs. Penrith City Rangers by Gemma Butler-Fleming & Lauren Goulden
For the first time in five seasons, neither the Werrington County Sonics or the Glenmore Park Druids were in the grand final.
The Ninjas had been dominant all season, winning the minor premiership while the Rangers came in fourth place and had to overcome both the Druids and Sonics to earn a place in the final.
Despite years of experience behind every Ninjas player, not one team member had an A-Grade premiership trophy and the pressure was on.
The Rangers, meanwhile, had something to prove and their typical fast breaks were the Ninjas’ worst fear.
At the opening face-off Ninjas’ captain Peter Yabsley took on the Rangers’ Bryan Macklin. Ninjas got the ball and were immediately on the attack.
It wasn’t long, however, before the Rangers’ Daniel Wong, intercepted a Ninjas pass and took off down the boards. His shot was easily saved by the keeper.
Yabsley then stole the ball back from Wong and took a shot from the blue line, but it went wide of the goal.
Less than two minutes into the game and the Ninjas picked up the ball again. Shannon Jorda had just subbed on, but got the ball and took a shot. It seemed Peter Yabsley managed to get a slight deflection, and it was too hard for the Rangers’ keeper to stop. Ninjas were up 1-0 and looked dangerous.
The Rangers were not to be dismayed at this early stage in the game. Liam Golding picked up the ball from a wayward Ninjas pass. His run looked unstoppable until he slipped as he took the shot, sending the ball way off target.
The Rangers came back again, showing some weakness in the Ninjas’ defence as James Kristof took the ball for a no-pressure run. He passed to Luke Simmonds who then passed towards the centre. Macklin cleaned it up and scored an equaliser for the Rangers in the sixth minute of the game.
The Rangers kept the pressure on, with Wong’s backhand shot at goal going wide again. A minute later and Wong looked dangerous. He passed to Macklin who outpaced the Ninjas’ defence. Macklin took the ball around the back of goals but a loose pass saw the Ninjas regain possession.
The Ninjas’ Shannon Jorda tried to set up an attack, but the Rangers’ Lisa Price stole the ball. She passed to Wong, who was unmarked, but his shot went high, well over the keeper’s reach.
Both teams tightened their defence for the remainder of the half. A number of attacking plays were made by both teams but the defence coolly cleaned up the ball and ensured that there were no shots on target until after half time. The Ninjas had started out strongly, but the Rangers had come back with their heads held high with the 1-1 scoreline.
In the second half, the Ninjas pushed up and held the Rangers in their defensive half for more than one and a half minutes. A break-out attempt by the Rangers went awry as Yabsley stole the ball and pushed it back to the Ninjas keeper, out of harm’s way.
The Ninjas’ Andrew Chapman and Gemma Butler-Fleming worked together to set up an attacking play. A good pass from Chapman to Josh Drinkall resulted in an on-target shot. Luckily for the Rangers, their keeper managed to block it.
The Rangers then took possession and Wong went for a run. The wayward shot went high and wide. The Ninjas regained possession but then lost it again and a shot from Golding was blocked by a scrambling Ninjas defender.
Six minutes into the second half and the battle between Wong and Yabsley continued with both players fighting for the ball into the Ninjas’ defensive half. Wong almost hooked the ball around the goal, but Shannon Vost was there to clear it out of the way.
Not long after, the Ninjas took the ball over the red line. All the Rangers had to drop back to mark the Ninjas man on man. The Rangers then got possession but some good forechecking by the Ninjas made it hard for the Rangers to get out of their defensive half.
A high ball by Macklin turned the play around. The Rangers’ quick attack caught the Ninjas by surprise. Golding took a shot but it was saved. He then took another shot from the rebound, but the Ninjas’ keeper collected it and froze the ball to take some pressure off his team.
With just over ten minutes to go, Sara Kristof and Lisa Price teamed up for a Rangers attack. A loose pass was intercepted by Butler-Fleming who passed to Linda Bell who was ready for a run. Bell then passed to Yabsley who took the ball over half way. Bell and Ryan Findlayson were in support. A few steps later and Yabsley took a shot from a long way out. The ball deflected off a Rangers player and the keeper couldn’t stop it.
The Ninjas were elated, but there was still plenty of work to be done.
The Ninjas kept up the attack with Chapman making some good runs, deep into the Rangers’ half. A strong shot from Drinkall went wide of the goal.
With six minutes to go, some sloppy passing from the Rangers gave the Ninjas possession but they could not capitalise. Soon enough, the Rangers were making a counter-attack. A shot from out wide by Kristof was blocked by a Ninjas defender.
In the last five minutes, both sides started making some sloppy and desperate plays. The Rangers were desperate to score to keep their premiership hopes alive, while the Ninjas were doing everything they could to maintain their one goal lead.
With less than four and a half minutes on the clock, a Ninjas player was sent off for tripping. The Rangers picked up the ball and began to hammer the Ninjas’ depleted defensive line. Shots from Luke Simmonds and Sara Kristof failed to hit the target. The Ninjas’ keeper was under a lot of pressure. Another shot by James Kristof was saved by the defence, as was a shot by Golding. The Rangers had even more opportunities but could not convert them into goals. A long shot from Kristof if the dying seconds went wide just as the buzzer sounded.
The Ninjas had clung on for a 2-1 victory, their first A-Grade title.

Wildebeests Reverse Last Season's Result
Grand Final: Wildebeests vs. Phoenix by Ryan Findlayson
Both Wildebeests, and Phoenix were taking some good form into the Grand Final. Phoenix's normally potent attack was nullified by some solid Wildebeests defense. Wildebeests normally potent attack was nullified by their lack of passing!! Phoenix having a lot of attacking ball, but their real opportunities were limited. Wildebeests having quick counter attack opportunities, but shot from the sides rather than working for better opportunities. Thus a stalemate ensued for the first half, and most of the second half. Just when overtime looked a certainty, Wildebeests strung a few passes together. Linda Bell making the initial run, centering to Andrew Leahy, who passed on to Aron Calfas, who had a lot of time to setup and blast away a goal with just 40 seconds to go. Phoenix with no time to draw level, and Wildebeests with this seasons B Grade title!!

The Replacements Win!
Grand Final: The Replacements vs. Tigers by Alison Jones
The game started out evenly matched with both teams having equal possession and attempts at goal. The Replacements were down Scott their usual goalkeeper(who is in England) and Amy who was sick but still came to support the team. This made combinations a little harder to work out(not that we plan much in advance) but both Chris & Hoppy said they were happy to cover in goals and both did a fantastic job. Thanks so much guys. Chris made some excellent saves and Hoppy even threw himself across the goal line in order to stop a goal(even if it was going to be HIS own goal haha). Tigers played hard and were able to break through the tough defence to secure a goal leaving the half time score at 1-0. Second half was again even and being a goal down, the Replacements confidence was getting low. But their many supporters cheered them on so that they again picked up their play and fought back with Megan and Mel playing exceptionally well(Mel staying mostly on her feet as well). Then with only 2 & a half mins of play to go they put together some great team work which ended with a pass to David who managed to find the back of the net. This changed the mood of the team and got them fired up to score again, which amazingly they did not long after this with David on the attack again and scoring a second goal before the full time buzzer sounded. Final score 2-1 to the Replacements. Thankyou to Josh & Stuart for playing, Saxon & Ryan for their great refereeing and to the Tigers for a great game and their good sportsmanship. Also as I am retiring from being captain I would like to thank the team for turning up and giving their best each week, for their love of the game and for keeping it social & fun. We may not have won every week but in the end we didnt mind and we had LOTS of laughs. Finally to our supporters who braved the cold and turned up for the GF and whenever they could. Congratulations go to Alison Jones - Female Points Award, David Farrell - Male Points Award & MVP Male, Scott Humphreys - Best Defensive Player Male and also to Clair Herborn from the Tigers who received both the MVP Female & the Best Defensive Player Female. Well done.

WINTER 2006 C DIVISION CHAMPIONS - THE REPLACEMENTS

29-AUG-2006
A Division - Week 6
The Write Up is BACK !!
Richmond Ravens vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
A see-sawing game between two very fast teams guaranteed at least one thing - lots of action. Ravens started very strong, controlling both possession and territory for lengthy periods of time, but a scrambling, somewhat disorganised Rangers defense barely managed to keep them out early. Midway through the first half, the tide began to turn, Rangers holding possession and territory against a tiring Ravens team saw the first goal of the match, Liam Golding scoring for Rangers, the only goal of the first half. Early in the second half Rangers started how they finished off the first, Daniel Wong scoring early to make it 2-0. Down by two goals, Ravens lifted the tempo even further and pressed hard for Jo Mitchell to get one past the Rangers defense to ensure a tight finish, 2-1 with 10 mins to go. Both teams squandered many opportunities in the closing minutes, the game finishing 2-1 when it could just as easily have been 6-5 if it weren't for the in-form keepers.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington Ninjas by Saxon Hooper
Druids demolished Ninjas earlier in the season romping in 5-1 over the defending champions. However as per the norm with A division, form means little with this one a much tighter affair. Solid defence and some good keeping meant the score was 0-0 at half time. Druids found the opening goal in the 2nd half when Damian Colyer took the ball from the back wall, sliding past the front of the net and slapping it in. Ninjas replied with Peter Yabsley setting up super sub Louis Sultana on the angle to slot one over the keeper. 1-1 full time into OT. For the first time in the night Saxon Hooper won a face off giving Druids possession. Working it forward the shots were unsuccessful giving Ninjas the ball. Posession ebbed and flowed, no shots really threatening the goals. A turn over late in the period saw the ball fall to Saxon Hooper, without pressure he was able to cross the 1/2 way line and amble closer to the blue line, Ninjas must have mesmorised by his grace and beauty, standing motionless as he flicked the ball over their heads and into the open net from just outside the blue line. 2-1 OT win to Druids.

B Division - Week 6
Goals Galore for Penguins
Low Riders vs Huskies by James Dymond
This was the first win after several weeks of losses for Low Riders. In the first 20 seconds of the game Aaron Dymond put away a backhand screamer from the blue line. Toward the end of the first half Huskies levelled with a flick shot due to confusion in the Low Riders goal circle. This rounded out the first 20 minutes of play. The second half saw many breakaways by both teams and an abundance of shots. Two screamers coming from the Low Riders that were saved by the Huskies keeper in a great display of keeping. Finally the break through came with Josh Drinkall scoring with a flick over the keeper to the top corner of the net. Only a few minutes were left in the second half of the game from the Huskies to reply. The Low Riders successfully defended their lead with a few close shots coming from the Huskies almost levelling the game. Result Low Riders 2-1

Raptors vs. The Penguins by James Kristof
With Penguins missing 3 players and having to make up the numbers with 2 first-gamers and a replacement keeper, and Raptors with only a minimal bench, this game threatened to be a stalemate between a tired defense and a disorganised attack. However, the game was set alight with not 1, not 2, but 7 goals in all. Penguins winning the game 5-2 after controlling possession and territory most of the game against a very tired Raptors outfit. 2 goals to Jason Wheeler, and 1 each for Tim Roffey, Daniel Wong and newcomer Alastair for the Penguins saw a comfortable win for the Penguins over the Raptors, who fought gallantly undermanned to score two goals of their own.

Girl Germs vs. Phoenix by Andrew Chapman
Phoenix finally fielded what was close to a full strength team, which even included a girl sub. This made it much easier to play against an under strength Girl Germs, who were missing a few players. Our orders were simple - man on man (girl??) marking. This worked for about 80% of our defensive game, and our numerous keepers kept the GG's shots out for the remainder. Lots of good running and passing from Phoenix resulted in a lot of shots against temporary keeper Peter Yabsley, and one eventually made its way into the back of the net. Phoenix then proceeded to maintain a strong passing and possession game to maintain the 1-0 lead till the end of the game. When Phoenix play like this, it looks like another possible grand final appearance....

Penrith City Rangers into the Grand Final !!
Preliminary Final: Penrith City Rangers vs. Werrington County Sonics
Rangers on a high after demolishing Glenmore Park Druids in the elimination final faced another stiff task up against Sonics for a spot in Mondays Grand Final. Rangers havent had much success vs Sonics but have been closing the gap. The Rangers started on fire with all the first up attack. However Sonics are a class outfit and defended grimly and always looked likely in attack even if they had less chances. 0-0 half time. Sonics applied more pressure in the second half and evened up the posession. However tight marking by Rangers meant that Sonics couldnt get away too many effective shots. The keeper handling what the defence couldnt. The game looked like it was heading into overtime until Bryan Macklin found Luke Simmonds unmarked in the slot. A desperate dive by James Ray and a stretch from the keeper couldnt stop the miss it dink shot which found the inside of the far post to give Rangers the 1-0 lead. With only 2 minutes to go Rangers tight marking defence held out and Rangers took out their 2nd broomball powerhouse to make their first Grand Final. On Monday they take on Werrington County Ninjas. Whoever wins will win their first ever A division title.

Glenmore Park Druids Eliminated !!
Qualifying Final: Werrington Ninjas vs. Werrington County Sonics
Sonics have always had the wood on Ninjas until this season, where Ninjas had managed to win each of their last two encounters by 2 goals. The solid season gave Ninjas the minor Premiership. With this new found confidence Ninjas went into the game hoping to continue their winning ways. Sonics were looking forward to winning and avoiding the additional Thursday night game. Both teams had full lines so the game was fast and end to end. Defence and goalies doing good jobs to restrict the offence meaning a 0-0 half time score line. Even with a sprinkling of penalties in the second half neither team could convert. 0-0 full time with Peter Yabsley in the penalty box for a high stick. However in OT sonics couldnt convert with the 4 on 3 advantage and score was 0-0 when Peter Yabsley rejoined the fray. A minute later Linda Bell laid it off to Peter who slotted a ball to Shannon Jorda in the danger zone. A shot and a score. 1-0 to Ninjas with 2 minutes to go of 4 on 4. Despite Sonics best efforts Ninjas wound off the clock and are straight through to the grand final. will be their 2nd appearence in a grand final, losing their first to Glenmore Park Druids 2-1. Sonics have a second chance taking on Rangers on Thursday night.

Elimination Final: Glenmore Park Druids vs. Penrith City Rangers
Druids started the game on fire scoring a goal within the first two minutes when Saxon Hooper fired a shot in that took a deflection off Kosta Sourlas's ample behind into the net. Druids continued to control posession and had all the play. Past Penrith City Rangers teams would have cracked under the pressure, but not anymore, Rangers hung tough, forced and error and on the break Liam Golding equalised with 13 to go in the half. Play resumed as before, Druids controlling posession getting off good shots but having no luck on the scoreboard. Another error by Druids another break and another goal to Rangers this time to Luke Simmonds. 2-1 to Rangers at the break. 2nd half similar to the first, Druids in control, Rangers defending grimly waiting for their chance. 7 minutes in it came again, this time Daniel Wong breaking on the defence and slotting one past the keeper. 3-1 Rangers. 8 minutes later with Druids pressing another break.. this time Liam Golding completing his double slotting one through the keepers legs. 4-1 Rangers over Druids causing a massive upset in their first finals appearence. This is the 1st time in 5 season Druids have failed to make the grand final. Rangers going on to take on Sonics in the Preliminary final Thursday.

Phoenix Straight Through to Final
Qualifying Final: Team Ice Bucket vs. Phoenix
Phoenix after dominating all season have moved straight into the grand final after a 1-0 win over Team Ice Bucket. Lauren Goulden scored for Phoenix early in the 2nd half assisted by Krys Lockhart and Damian Colyer. An amazing turn around for Phoenix who finished with the wooden spoon last season. This will be Phoenix's first B division grand final appearence since 2002 where they lost to Polar Bears 2-1. Team Ice Bucket have the 2nd chance and take on Wildebeests on Thursday night in the preliminary final.

Elimination Final: The Penguins vs. Wildebeests
Wildebeests destroyed The Penguins finals hopes with a 4-1 win. Ryan Findlayson opening the scoring 10 minutes into the game. Just 5 minutes later Andrew Leahy doubled the lead. 2-0 to Wildebeests at half time. A goal to Tim Roffey 2 mminutes into the 2nd half gave Penguins a sniff. However 2 goals in 4 minutes, one to Aron Calfas and another to Andrew Leahy saw Wildebeests safely through to the preliminary final.

The Replacements into the Grand Final
Qualifying Final: Ice Devils vs. The Replacements by Alison Jones
The Replacements finally break the semi's curse - After numerous semi-final losses in previous seasons, the Replacements finally manage a 1 - 0 win to secure them a place in the Grand Final. The game started out evenly matched with the Replacements having a little more possession in the first half and with Dave nearly scoring a goal through the two goal keepers(???). There were some powerful shots made by the Ice Devils with many of us literally putting our bodies on the line to stop them(believe me, we have the bruises to prove it) but still the score remained 0 all at half time. The second half started like the first but got a bit more aggressive as it continued. Dave Farrell got 5 minutes for an intimidation foul. ** Editors Note: Retaliating to something whether it is there or not isnt on !! Walk Away !! Let the refs deal with it ! ** Being down a player under these circumstances only made the team more determined to score and score we did. After a save from Scott in goals, he decided to go out and help the team, by shooting an extraordinary goal from nearly halfway and against the wall. There was no denying this goal either as it stuck half way up the net against the pole! The Ice Devils came back strong and hard but couldn't break our defence leaving the final score 1 - 0 to The Replacements. Thanks for helping us get this far Scotty, have fun in England, we will miss you heaps.

Elimination Final: Tigers vs. Huskies by Kevin Chen
Tigers coming into the game with 3 wins in a row under their belt against a well rested Huskies outfit, this promised to be a fast and tight game. Huskies having just scrapped through into the top 4 were desperate to prove their finals’ credentials and were on the attack early, having a few clean breakaways and intercepts after some sloppy passes from the Tigers. However, with some fast defence cutting off the Huskies’ passing route, Tigers managed to hold off and counterattack with some great runs along the boards. Towards the end of the first half the Tigers seemed to have the majority of the possession and started to take some shots at the goal, but the lack of accuracy and good defence from the Huskies ensured the first half ended nil all. Second half was just as tight, with the Tigers defence crowding the Huskies leaving them no room to make good passes or shots on goal. The game getting a little more physical with some pushing from Kevin Chen behind the Huskies goal line and Jason Hall with some stick checks on Claire Herborn – one of which injured Claire and making her leave the ice with a few minutes of the 2nd half to go. With both teams tiring, the game became a tug-of-war for possession and shots on goal from both teams were few and far between – and it ended in a nil all stalemate going into OT. With 5 full minutes to play, both teams came out cautiously, with neither team wanting to give away easy goals. The Tigers had the bulk of the possession as the fearless Tigers captain and defender Sally Yabsley controlling the play at the halfway line. However, neither team were able to capitalise on the open ice and so the game went into an untimed sudden-death OT with the first goal winning the game. Within the first few seconds of the OT, Paul Stockbridge took advantage of a wayward pass from the Huskies near the halfway line, sprinted up towards the goal with only one defender to beat, took a nice swing and the ball was finally in the back of the nets after 45 minutes of tight defensive play from both teams – the Tigers are in the Preliminary final!!!

The knights with the long team name into the D division Grand Final
Elimination Final: Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Carney Clownz by Lana Kuipers
This was a paricularly interesting season for The Knight's Who Say Broomball, as quite often we only had just enough players to fill a side for a game with perhaps one or two subs. It was a very rary occasion when the whole team was able to play together, and the last game between the Carney Clownz and Knight's was no different. With only six players to their side, The Knight's downed the Clownz 2-0. Marc Kuipers put the first goal in within the first five minutes of opening half - this was a great morale boost for The Knight's as we were missing our B-Grade champs. (Yes, this win proved that we don't actually need them, but still.... we would be lying if we said that we weren't scared for at least a few minutes). The Knight's played a heavily defensive game, with the main objective to make the Clownz run, and if the opportunity arose - to score as well. Scott Powell, in his debut season, assisted by Pierce Van de Pol, secured a second goal in the second half. Jess Olford played an extremely good game, giving her all to both defence and attack, whilst Matt Harris stopped many good shots by the Clownz becoming a goal. Lana also played heavy in defence.. Now, without any offence to remaining Knight's who couldnt make the match for one reason or another - guys, we did it without you. We know your spirit was with us, but we still did it - with only six of us. Now, we all expect the rest of you to have your butts there next week when we take on the Wild Boars. So there.....

C Division - It's FINALS Time
The Replacements Take Out the Minor Premiership
The Replacements won their last game 2-0 vs Wild Boars to secure the minor premiership. Ice Devils also won their last game to grab 2nd in a stunning debut season setting up a qualifying final vs The Replacemnets. The prize for the win a spot in the C Division Grand Final. Tigers and Wild Boars both needed to win their last game to make the finals. If both won, Huskies would have dropped out of the top 4, something they could have avoided if they had completed all their duty games. Tigers managed a win, but Wild Boars couldnt pull off the upset vs The Replacements. Tigers will take on Huskies in the elimination final, the loser's season is over while the winner moves onto the preliminary final for a shot a grand final position. Wild Boars finished 5th and move straight into the D grade final in a couple weeks. Carney Clownz play the Knights who Say Broomball the winner taking on Wild Boars.

Huskies vs Knights Who Say Broomball By Amran Sinha
The final game of Thursday night saw Huskies C defeat The Knights WSB by 2 goals to 1. For the first time this season Huskies C had 8 players turn up. The Knights WSB, on the other hand, had no subs. This made it easier for Huskies to maintain control and pressure through the game. Scores were level untill shortly after half-time when a Ben Hall pass found Manoorie Sinha who was able to slam it into the back of the net. Huskies doubled thier lead moments later when Karl Pryor drove it in from close range. However, The Knights WSB hitback when Marc Kupiers scrored a good breakaway goal, against the run of play. In the final stages Huskies were qutie dominant and in control, thanks mainly to Bec Cashell's passing game and tidying up.

The Replacements vs Huskies By Alison Jones
Well what can we say about this one. The team was there more for the enjoyment of the game than to play hard. There was some good attempts at goal, some extremely flukey saves and plenty of laughs (including Saxon laughing at us from the sideline). So even after O/T there was still no score on the board, 0 - 0 draw.

The Replacements vs Knights Who Say Broomball By Alison Jones
Having more females than males turn up for the game has never been a disadvantage for the Replacements. The girls always give their best and prove they are tough competitors. David was able to score the first goal with an assist from Alison but then did it all himself the second time around. It was a good match and Knights fought hard but were unlucky not to score in this one. Final score Replacements 2 Knights 0.

Probably the most hotly contested division at nationals with all 4 states very even. NSW started well with a tough 3-2 win over ACT. A draw vs QLD and a win vs SA secured the finals spot. ACT returning to the mixed elite this year grabbed the others final spot. The final was a fast affair, with Tracy Ivin opening the scoring. Goals to Peter Yabsley and Tim Brown put NSW out to a 3-0 lead. ACT managed to drag one back, but extreme keeping from Shannon Vost ensured NSW's victory 3-1. The 55 strong NSW broomball team is off to Adelaide to compete in the Australian Broomball Championships. We have 3 mens teams, 4 mixed teams and 2 womens teams competing in both Elite and Intermediate division. Last year we won 4 of the 5 divisions, hopefully this year we can go one better (and pardon the pun) and have a clean sweep. Whatever the results it is going to be an awesome trip, with lots of broomball and lots of fun. Wish us Luck !!

Happy Birthday Hoppy
Replacements v Tigers by Alison Jones
The game was started with only 3 of the Replacements players on the ice because most of our slack team were still stuffing their faces at Maccas(as usual). Those on the ice Scott,Megan and Chris defended valliantly while under constant attack from a full team of Tigers. Another player,Alison,to make 4, but the attack continued. There were many great saves and brilliant defence but when its 6 to 4 it was inevitable that a goal would eventually get through. And so it did, with this being the only goal of the match. Finally a full team on!!! From this point there was more attack from the Replacements and some great shots at goal but unfortunately none were successfull. Replacements second big disadvantage this week was that the girls found it very difficult to get used to the shin pads and couldnt seem to get their rhythm going enough to help run up in attack as quickly. Scott did a great job in goals and congratulations to David who had a spectacular save when he managed to get back in goals after Scott moved out to defend a 1 on 1 attack. Unlucky guys but brilliant effort under the circumstances.Tigers 1-0. *** HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY HOPPY!!!!!***

Ninjas in OT....Again
Werrington County Sonics vs. Richmond Ravens by Davin Harvey
First game Monday night saw a glimmer of hope in the Ravens. After a frustrating season of draws and losses, was tonight to be different..... First half saw some good possessional play from the Ravens both in breaking out of their half and in attack. Movement on and off the ball was great, and Ravens looked to control the game. First goal came mid way through the 1st half with John Magnisalis getting a hard cross in and Davin Harvey poking it away amidst the scrambling defence. 1-0 and confidence was high for the Ravens. Sonics throughout the half were forced to shoot from the outside, Ravens not letting them control the ball in close. Towards the end of the 1st half, Ravens had the overlap breakaway, with 3 on 1, Sally Yabsley drew the defender and got a nice low pass to Craig Horsley for the one-time goal, Ravens 2-0, and wanting more... 2nd half saw the Ravens continue to forecheck strongly and good pressure on the Sonics's attack saw the Ravens hold the win to the close of the match. Game closed @ 2-0, Sonics with a few late scrambling chances, but unable to convert. Great game from the Ravens, let's see this strong form continue. Look forward to next week.

Werrington Ninjas vs. Penrith City Rangers by Ryan Findlayson
Rangers coming off their first win of the season, were looking to continue their form. However it was the Ninjas who got on the board first, midway through the first half. Some great passing saw Peter Yabsley setup by Shannon Vost and Linda Bell. The scoreline stayed this way for the remainder of the half. In the second, some over ambitious forechecking by Ninjas, meant that Liam Golding found himself level with his marker. The pass headed for Liam, and a bit of luck saw the ball get through both players, but the speed of Liam meant he had the clean breakaway. It was nicely converted to draw the Rangers level. This is how the scores remained for the second half. In OT it was all Ninjas, some well worked passing meant that all four players had their hand in the winning goal. So 2-1 OT victory to Ninjas.

Phoenix and Wildebeests Setting the Pace
Phoenix vs. The Penguins by Andrew Chapman
Phoenix came into this game as the only team to beat Penguins this season. The first half was in question, as neither team could manage a point, due to some awesome defence and urgent scrambling. Also some wasted opportunities from both sides didn't help. 5 minutes into the second half a Lauren Goulden shot rebounded and found a very unmarked Matt Hellyer right in front of goal. He easily finished it to put Phoenix up 1-0. 5 minutes later Damo Colyer realised he had an open shot from the blue line. He took it. Lauren looked like she might have got a stick to deflect it over the keepers foot, but either way it was in the back of the net to put Phoenix up 2-0. Penguins forgot about Matt, as he again got in front of the net to put away a Krys Lockhart pass a minute later. Matt almost had a hat-trick, but his next deflection (again in front of goals) went marginally wide. We had a very good control and passing game, with a lot of good work from Jason and Tim in the centre, and our keeper Katie got a bit sleepy due to lack of action in front of our net. Great work guys!

Polar Bears vs. Low Riders by Ceez Kim
In a game where both teams were trying to move up from the bottom half of the table, the 5th placed Low Riders were a player-down for the entire game, and the 6th placed Polar Bears took advantage of the extra player, scoring in the 15th minute (Mark Kim, assisted by Sam Boer). The Polar Bears doubled the lead with an awesome break-away from Mark Kim in the first 2 minutes of the 2nd half. The Low-Riders were given a glimpse of hope by James Dymond (assist by Nathan Lawler) with only 1:54 on the clock to go, hoping to take the game into over-time, but the Polar Bears held on and took the points.

Wildebeests vs. Huskies by Ryan Findlayson
The best way to describe this game, is with the scoreline 7-1 to Wildebeests. Wildebeests were up 7-0 with over ten minutes to play, but then started to change there normal tactics, pushing their normal defenders into attack, and their normal attackers into goals!! This resulted in no more goals for the Wildebeests, and one goal against. But the game was well and truly over by this stage!!

Huskies vs. The Replacements by Jason Hall
The replacements came out hard and fast in the first half. Putting in 3 quick early goals before the Huskies could stem the tide. Half time couldn't come quickly enough for the Huskies as the Replacements ran straight through them, time and time again. The second half started the same as the first with the Replacements getting another quick goal to go 4-0 up. This seemed to finally wake the Huskies up. With the Huskies finally showing some intensity and playing as a team the remainder of the second half was a good close match. Huskies probably getting some dominance in the end and managed to get a face saving return goal. Huskies showing the effects of not playing with purpose. Replacements showing why they will be hard to beat this season. Final Score 4 - 1.

Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Carney Clownz by
The first half of the game was closer than the score showed and the game could have been won by either team. As it happened, the clowns missed their early opportunities and didnt cover there defensive half enough. This lead to the first goal to the knights which came from a off target shot of Dan Binns. Luckily, Pirce countiuned to follow though and was able to make an easy tap to score. After that the clowns didnt seem the same team and goals to Chris Dezman and Russel Gregory sealed the match. Even though the clowns were given many opportunities at the end of the second half that they could not convert. Final score Knights 3 Clowns 0.

Ninjas in OT
Penrith City Rangers vs. Richmond Ravens by Bryan Macklin
After a 5-1 thrashing and a bye, Rangers seemed as though they were on the verge of replicating last season's mid-season form, that led them to the wooden spoon. Determined to not let this happen, Rangers pressed hard early, signalling their intentions with a Liam Golding and James Kristof fast break that saw them on a 2 on 1 against keeper Saxon Hooper. They of course didn't score, but at least their intentions were clear. Rangers controlled most of the play in the first half, eventually scoring another break, this time by Bryan Macklin, who did some sort of miss-hit flick shot that found the back corner of the goal. Ravens then lifted their intensity to dominate the last 5 minutes of the first half, and then kept it up for the first 10 minutes in the second half, coming close to scoring on several occasions. However, with fewer subs than the Rangers, the Ravens persistent offense began to tire and the Rangers went for the jugular, going all out to try and get a sealer as the clock continued to countdown. A 3 on 1 break late in the game saw Daniel Wong pass the ball to an open Lisa Price, who shot and pounced on the rebound to supply a ball to an open James Kristof 3 metres in front of goal, who hammered home a first time shot to put the game beyond doubt. 2-0 to Rangers, who put last year's demons to rest...for now.

Werrington Ninjas vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Ryan Findlayson
Last time these two met, Ninjas felt like they were the more dominant team, but after no score in normal time, Druids came away with the OT win. This time Druids were the more dominant team in the normal time periods. But again there would be no goals for either team with keepers in place. So OT it was again. Druids continued to dominate during OT, but desperstion defense continued to deny them. With only a few seconds left on the clock Ninjas sent the long ball up from behind there own goals to Peter Yabsley on halfway, who quickly took the ball over the line, and gave it a solid push towards the open goals. The ball proceeded to roll agonizingly slowly, and painstakingly towards the post. With about a second to go the ball squeezed inside the post and into the goals, for a nice buzzer beater, and a Ninjas OT victory.

Wildebeests in OT
Wildebeests vs. Team IceBucket by Ryan Findlayson
Neither team had been beaten in normal time this season. So it was always going to be a tight game. Wildebeests got the goal up midway through the first half, Mark Dasco making his return game count. But the speed of the IceBucket attack, worried the Wildebeests defense a few times. But they couldn't breakthrough before the halftime break. Wildebeests in the second putting more emphasis on their defense, restricting the IceBuckets ability to break away. It looked as though they were going to hold on, until some sloppy passing in the middle of their own zone saw Wildebeests cough up the ball to Liam Golding who was good enough to slot the shot between the keepers legs. The 1-1 score line remained to the end of normal time. So OT was to follow. OT not lasting long, after a run across the width of the field, and an air swing, Wildebeests composed themselves long enough to get the ball to their go to man, Aron Calfas, who put a scorcher away to give the Wildebeests the 2-1 OT win.

The Penguins vs. Huskies by Jason Hall
Huskies low on numbers all season were down a girl again and had no male subs. This told all through the game, with Penguins basically calling all the shots. Penguins started well. Scoring in the first couple of minutes and again proving that I should not be allowed in goals. (What will it take for people to learn this.) Penguins kept applying the pressure all game and though the beginning of the second half looked promising for the Huskies, Penguins managed to cracked them in the end. Some great saves from the Huskies and some poor ball control in front of goals by the Penguins managed to keep the scoreline semi-respectable. Penguins are playing a good solid game and should do well this season. Huskies hopefully fielding a full team next week should be a lot more competitive. Final scoreline 3 - 0.

Polar Bears vs. Phoenix by No one (should have been Andrew Chapman)
Phoenix defeated Polar Bears 3 goals to 1.

Phoenix vs. Team IceBucket by Andrew Chapman
We played brilliant broomball for 36 minutes. We were up 2-0 over Team IceBucket, with goals to Krys Lockhart and myself. Then for the last 4 minutes of the game, we forgot which positions we were playing, and forgot what "mark Liam" meant. This of course meant Liam scored 2 goals for Ice Bucket in the last 4 minutes, taking it into overtime. Ice Bucket were one player down due to a send off just before full time, but it didn't matter. 10 seconds into overtime, Liam (again!) got the ball and scored to win in overtime. I don't know.... We're about as consistent as the Wests Tigers at the moment. But still good enough to be up there with the top teams (much unlike the Wests Tigers at the moment). A consolation - we've got most of the season left to get it right, but anyway a brilliant 36 minutes is better than most teams can do. This week we'll just score 4 goals so they can't catch up.

Sonics Cement Top Spot
Werrington County Sonics vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Sonics with big numbers looking for a fast game, Druids without numbers looking to slow it down. Pretty even opening to the game, both teams with posession, controlling play and getting off their shots. 15 minutes into the game a costly turn over had Chris Dezman finding John Skiadas wide open in front of the Druids net. Good hard shot from the slot gave the keeper no chance. 1-0 Sonics. Druids somehow found time to reply with only 1 minute on the clock in the first. Steve Larter heading down the right ring drew a ball back for the Kosta Sourlas who was anchored in front of the Sonic net. He did what he does best, got his stick on the ball and hooked it in from point blank. 1-1 Half time. The second half was pretty dour, both teams bloking up the defensive slot positions well, not allowing many quality shots on goal. When they did get through th defence the keeping was excellent and maintained the status quo. It would need some extreme skill or some fantastic luck to break this dead lock and it was the latter that prevalied. A block shot by Ben Robson was rolling comfortably for the keeper to cover, however an over keen defence had two defenders play at the ball. The net result was a rebound past the keeper into the other (mine) players stick and into the goals with everyone wrong footed. 2-1 Sonics is how it stayed.

Werrington Ninjas vs. Richmond Ravens by Ryan Findlayson
A nice tight battle. Opportunities were probably evenly spread, however the Ninjas had more breakaway opportunities, and it was one of these opportunities converted by Peter Yabsley midway through the second half that gave Ninjas the opening goal. Ravens put a lot of pressure on the Ninjas defense towards the end of the game. Ninjas desperation saw a few lucky touches stop passes reaching open players in front of goals. Hence the game remained 1-0 to the Ninjas.

All One Sided..
Wildebeests vs. Low Riders by Ryan Findlayson
Low Riders playing a girl down the entire game meant that Wildebeests were looking for a solid result. This was hindered by an out of uniform penalty at the start of each half for the Wildebeests. In the first half Low Riders started stronger, creating the first opportunity. A good screen of the keeper meant that the keeper saved a shot by pure luck!! With the Wildebeests back up to full strength, the Low Riders then struggled for real oppotunities, but they did manage to hold the Wildebeests out for the first half. In the second half Josh Drinkall opened the scoring, unfortunately for him, it was in the wrong net. This was the event that opened the flood gates for Wildebeests, putting on another three goals in the half to give them a 4-0 victory.

The Penguins vs. Raptors by Saxon Hooper
Form has meant nothing this season. The Penguins coming off a thrashing last week dished out one of their own this week. Only took 3 minutes for their first goal, Jason Wheeler bagging his first of three. Six minutes later Sara Kristof made it 2-0 for the Penguins. With less than 2 on the clock for the first half Jason Wheeler grabbed his second goal. 3-0 Half time lead for The Penguins. Raptors started the 2nd half well scoring through Martin Sultana 3 minutes in. However Jason Wheeler sealed the Raptors fate 5 minutes later, completing his hatrick and taking Penguins 3 goals cleaar again. Final score 4-1 The Penguins.

Polar Bears vs. Huskies by Kevin Chen
Both teams have started the season a little slow and needed a positive result from this game. Polar Bears off to the perfect start with a goal to Captain Luke Petelczyc within two minutes. Four minutes later Huskies through Glen Butler-Fleming luckily hit back via a Golden Falkev goal. For those of you who dont know the Golden Falkev is an ancient broomball legend and goes something like this.......... The Legend of the Golden FalKev… It all began in the Broomball Overnighter Comp back in 2004, during a game in which the great Kev Chen was the goalkeeper. In an exciting game where both teams were attacking hard and fast, the ball was in the possession of Kev’s team in the defensive zone, when suddenly through a quick intercept, attacker James Kristoff managed to take the ball directly behind the defensive goals while Kev looks on helplessly – wishing he was a defender charging in to save the day instead of just being Keeper Kev. Kev’s team-mates were quick to respond, rapidly closing in on the trapped Kristof where he had no support and nowhere to go. In an act of pure desperation, Kristof lifted the ball over the goal in the hope of passing it to an oncoming attacker. But instead of seeing the ball fly gracefully over the goal, over Keeper Kev’s head, and onto an attacker’s stick, the ball instead flew directly at Keeper Kev’s head hitting him square on his face shield, and dropped innocently down past the goal post and dribbled into the net. Kev looks on in horror and confusion, lost for words and looking at the referee in desperation and wishing that was not counted. “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!” Kev cried, as the ref blew the whistle to signify a legal goal; which in turn, won the game for Kristof’s team. This horrific incident scarred Kev for months, vowing never to return to the goal crease as a keeper.

An extremely accurate re-enactment of the Legend of the Golden FalKev

Fast forward back to March 2006. The great Kev again as keeper Kev for Polar Bears, the orginal Golden FalKev incident far from his mind. In a defensive setup, Luke Petelczyc took the ball behind the goal and looked for support in position – again with Keeper Kev at the goal crease looking on. However, attacker Glen Butler-Fleming had other ideas as he charged towards Petelczyc as he was dribbling the ball directly behind the goal. Not wanting to take the easy option and back away, Petelczyc tried an angled lift pass, hoping to clear the ball over the goal, over Keeper Kev’s head, and onto a support player’s stick. Instead, the ball hit Butler-Fleming’s head and deflected the ball directly at Keeper Kev’s head hitting him square on his face shield, and dropped innocently down past the goal post and dribbled into the net. A carbon-copy of the Overnighter Golden Falkev goal that haunted Kev for so long. As of now, alien spacecrafts in deep space are trying to decipher a signal coming from the Milky Way galaxy which sounds suspiciously like “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!”… Not long later Polar Bears regained the lead with Sam Boer putting one away. Polar Bears extended their lead to 3-1 with the 4th goal of the period, Mark Kim scoring his first and picking up his 3rd point for the game after two earlier assists. Goals dried up in th 2nd period after 4 in the first with Polar Bears boosting their for and against record with a goal to Mark Kim in the final minute of the game. 4 points for Mark Kim(2g2a), 4 points for Polar Bears, a much need win 4-1 win over last seasons premiers Huskies.

Wildebeests vs. Huskies by Ryan Findlayson
Being a replay of last seasons grand final, it would be easy to expect big things of this game. However, it turned out to be a very dour affair. Wildebeests getting a goal up early, and then limiting their attack periods, and concentrating on the defenCe. The stategy worked, as the Huskies couldn't penetrate the Wildebeests wall, even when Wildebeests suffered a two minute penalty. Hence the Wildebeests held on for the 1-0 win.

The Replacements Cane the Clownz
Wild Boars vs. HuskiesC by Jason Hall
A new look Huskies C side still learning to play together taking on the finalists of the mini comp. Game started well with both teams defending well. Seemed to be a very even match until Jason Hall got sent off for 2 minutes due to dangerous play. The Wild Boars taking advantage of the extra player to one up. Huskies got back up to full strength and attacked well. Levelling the scores through a brilliant goal from Stuart Skene off a Jason Hall assist. Neither team seemed to get complete control of the match afterwards and scores stayed level at 1 all. Huskies dominant in overtime from word go. Controlling the ball well. Wild Boars stuck to defence and managed to hold the Huskies to the outside. Huskies poor long range accuracy meant they couldn't get the winning goal. A good draw from both teams.

Carney Clownz vs. The Replacements by Alison Jones
Replacements played one of their best games (for a long time) with more controlled passing and great defence. The team work was excellent and definitely contributed to the Replacements win. David scored 3 goals, Alf 1 and the last goal went to Alison. Congratulations must go to Emma who, though unlucky at the end when Clownz scored their only goal on the buzzer, also had an amazing save in goals under extreme pressure. Great effort guys!! Replacements winning 5 - 1.

Tigers vs. Ice Devils by Saxon Hooper
Tigers got off to a great start scoring in the first 30 seconds of the game. Sally Yabsley converting. Just 4 minutes later Ice Devils equalised with new player Steven Albee bagging his first broomball goal of the regular season set up by Kieran McDonald. 1 all half time. With 17 minutes left in the match Kieran McDonald open the window of opportunity for Tigers with a high stick penalty against him. However Tigers couldnt convert the advanatge. With two goals in the opening 4 minutes and none for the remaining 36 this one was into OT, 1 all full time. Kevin Chen handed the advantage to Ice Devils when he was sent for being in the goalie D in oT. But Ice Devils failed to score and the game finished as it was 4 minutes into the game.. 1 all.

One Round Down - Two to Go
Penrith City Rangers vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Druids welcomed back big (bigger than when we last saw him), bad, hairy (hairer since we last saw him) Kosta Sourlas. Would this upset the balance of the Druids or would his omni presence elavate them to a new level. Rangers had to be feeling confident, they have shown good form to start the season, Tim Ollerton was missing and last time they played Druids they spanked them 4-1. So it was with that confidence and new found patience in offence they were on the board ten minutes into the game. A hard shot coming in from Daniel Wong, deflecting off a defender and past the keeper who had no chance. 1-0 Rangers, Druids a little unorganised. With 6 minutes to go in the first half some good forechecking turned over the ball to Saxon Hooper. A step and a quick hard low shot dodged defence and keeper for the equaliser. 1-1 half time. 8 minutes into the 2nd half saw Saxon Hooper score another goal from forecheck pressure, pretty much a carbon copy of the first goal. Saxon soon had his hat trick as he pinched a ball from the defence at half way and sprinted (yes it was a sprint) down to put away a mega hand thing goal. 3-1 Druids 10 minutes to go in the game. Damien Colyer then iced Rangers as he put away two break away goals in a minute and a half to put Druids out to a 5-1 lead with 5 to go. No further goals for either team. 5-1 Druids.

Werrington Ninjas vs. Werrington County Sonics by Ryan Findlayson
Put simply, if Ninjas could learn to convert their chances, they'd be dangerous. Sonics not totally out classed though creating their fair share of opportunities. Dhyana Scarano converting from the post position to give Sonics the lead midway through the first half. Periods of possesion for the Ninjas again proved to no avail. So 1-0 at half time, and with Ninjas slowly commiting deeper in attack, a turnover leading to a 2 on the keeper opportunity for Ben Robson to convert off Tim Brown, and Sonics to double their lead. Eventually the Ninjas pressure paid off. Some nice quick passing off a face off lead to Ryan Findlayson clear on the back-hand, and was able to find the target. This spurred Ninjas into absolute overdrive looking for the second goal. After many many many shots, Ryan caught another one sweet, but only got second prize sinking Chris Dezman in the center pocket, as there was tree ball action, like Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker suite, restricting his chances at fatherhood, a very "teste"-ing moment, it was "sack"-tacular, GOT HIM RIGHT IN THE MUZ!!!

But this was only a little consolation, as despite the many chances, Ninjas couldn't convert in the dying moments of the game, and thus, Sonics taking the 2-1 win.

Raptors vs. Team IceBucket by Liam Golding
Ummm... Chris Dezman scored off a double assist for TIB. Whoever it was we were playing scored back. Half time, 1-1. Lisa Price scored for us again. Full time 2-1. If you think i'm lazy, i guess i am, but Bry was more lazy by offloading this to me. If you think i can't remember details, that's true, but Lisa thought we lost, so she's worse.

Phoenix vs. The Penguins by Andrew Chapman
Phoenix had a good start against the new competition leaders, continuing our rare form at the beginning of a season. This was despite missing super keeper Katie Robson and super defender Joel Robson, plus a few other regulars. Things were going smoothly, and then the Penguins suffered a blinder of a goal from Krys Lockhart, who belted the ball over the top of the keeper to put Phoenix up 1-0. Krys then had a lucky deflection from a Penguin, which resulted in his shot easily making it past the keeper to make it 2-0. To complete his hat-trick, Krys did a little flick of the ball into the keeper, that somehow found its way under the keeper's legs and into the goal. 3-0 Phoenix. To finish off a night of well executed but unlikely goals, I belted a backhand from the blue line that curved past everyone, and into the top corner. Final score 4-0 to Phoenix. Excellent work from everyone - great teamwork and passing. The win was enough to put us back into 1st spot on the table.

Polar Bears vs. Low Riders by Saxon Hooper
Low Riders scored first fifteen minutes into the first period with Josh Drinkall on a break drawing the keeper and poking it through for a goal. 1/2 time saw the score still at 1-0 Low Riders. Tigers opened the scoring just 2 minutes into the game with Glen Crook setting up Sally Yabsley for the goal. Five minutes later Tigers doubled their lead with a goal to ring in Shallon Williams from new Tiger's recruit Craig Sadler. Josh Burton sensing his team needed a list went solo to puc Clownz on the board with 9 to go in the 1st. Two minutes later Josh had a double as he equalised with an assist from Jacob Stofmeel. Tigers wreslted the lead back with the 5th goal of the half thanks to Paul Stockbridge converting a Kevin Chen assist. 3-2 halftime. Both teams either tired or decided some defending was in order as it took 14 minutes for the next goal, again for Cownz it was Josh Burton completing his hatrick. 3-3, 6 minutes in the match. With the clock winding down the last minute, it was hatrick hero Josh Burton converting his 4th goal for the game giving clownz the 4-3 lead with 10 seconds on the clock. An amazing game to open the C division season. 4-3 Clownz over Tigers.

Ice Devils vs. The Replacements by Alison Jones
With some of the Replacements main attacking players gone, we started the first half in a defensive format and were able to keep any attack from the Ice Devils under control. Both teams had their opportunities but were unsuccessful and by full time the game was scoreless. Overtime seemed destined to be the same, when with less than 5 seconds to go, a pass came from Alison to Amy and on to David who scored a great goal while still holding on to his trousers which throughout the game he was having trouble keeping up. Final score 1 - 0 to the Replacements.

The Knights vs. Huskies by Lana Kuiper
The Knights is the new name for the team formerly known as "The Unco's". With only a minor change in player line up, the team is off to a brilliant start in the new season. The team remains the same as last season, with the welcome addition of Scott Powell to the ranks. In the opening match for The Knights and the Huskies of the season, it proved to be a challenge for both teams to get back into the swing of official comp. Official competition always seems so differernt to pre-season warm up matches/comp. Defence was strong in both camps, however The Knights attackers were right on the ball, with Marc Kuipers scoring both goals for The Knights and Chris Dezman assisting, which were the only goals of the match. It was a great start to the season, and it looks to continue to be a great season for all teams in C grade. Bring on next match!

Penrith City Rangers vs. Werrington Ninjas by Ryan Findlayson
Ninjas with a truck load of possesion, and most of it attacking possesion, looked like they should be 5-0 up at half time, not 1-0 down (damn you Tim Brown!!). A good cross from behind the goals found Liam Golding making a well timed run and converting the shot to give Rangers the lead late in the first half. More truck loads of attacking ball for the Ninjas, and again despite some good shots, weren't converting. Eventually Josh Drinkall did get Ninjas off the duck with a powerful close up shot midway through the second. A few minutes later it was Josh Drinkall again firing in a midrange shot. A defenders hand deflecting the ball into the far top corner, giving the keeper no chance, and the Ninjas the lead (finally!!). Ninjas did their best to try and lose it in the dying stages of the match, and an unmarked Bryan Macklin shot from close range rarely stays out of the back of the net, but luckily for Ninjas in this instance it did!! So 2-1 victory to Ninjas.

Richmond Ravens vs. Werrington County Sonics by Ryan Findlayson
To start with Sonics made Ravens look like a bunch of hobos who were happy just in awe of being in an ice rink!! But a couple of shots, a goal to Ben Robson, and another couple of shots later, Ravens started to play broomball, and even more than that, seemed to have the upper hand. John Magnisalis showing off his shooting accuracy twice, after both times being assisted by Craig Horsley to give the Ravens the lead at half time. The second half looked like a stand off, neither team letting the other get really clear. It looked like Ravens were going to hold on for the victory, but, as time starting to get away from the Sonics, Tim Brown came to life. First levelling the scores, and then giving the Sonics the lead after gathering a rebound, with less than a minute to go. So heartbreak for the Ravens in a 3-2 loss to the Sonics.

B Division - Week 4
Penguins Flying High
Raptors vs. Polar Bears by Davin Harvey
Raptors first win! Flash in the pan or a sign of things to come.... Big game Monday night for the Raptors, saw them showing their game of old. Raptors held good possession through most of the game, good movement in passing and good defensive pressure on a whole when the ball was turned over. First goal came mid way through the first half, seemingly from nothing. A great individual run from Martin Sultana, faking the pass and a little hot shoe shuffle from the wall with no angle to the goals, and slotted it in at the near post. 1-0. Raptors held the lead to the end of the half, the hunger showing.... 2nd half came out hard again, Raptors picking up the pace of the game with some fast breaks, but unable to capitalise. Polar Bears took their time getting out of their half, some great passing and skill on the ball getting them through our defence, and scrambling defence did well to break it down at the last possible point. Midway through the 2nd half, Martin Sultana got called for high sticking, and Raptors had to pull in tight to hold the Polar Bears out. Polar Bears got a fast break early in the penalty time and caught the Raptors defence too high, giving them a 2 on 1. Mark Kim and Sam Boer working well between them to get the ball in the back of the net. 1-1....This week though, Raptors lifted and kept fighting for it, and pressured harder, John Flaherty finally getting off his feet on the ice to scramble for the ball, and helped lay it off to Davin Harvey to slot home a goal late in the 2nd giving the Raptors the lead once more. Raptors held out the rest of the game, coming under quite physical pressure, but held out well to give Raptors the points. Great game team, let's keep the hunger rolling. Look forward to next week. Also, if you ever need firewood, have a chat to Jason Lessells, that kid must really know how to weild an axe.

Team IceBucket vs. Huskies by Jason Hall
As defending champions the Huskies had hoped to start this season well and try and stake an early claim on a second trophy. This hadn't eventuated though, with an indifferent start seeing them with a 1 - 1 win - loss record. The Ice Buckets started the season along the same lines as the Huskies, a win and a loss as well, meant that this game could be the jump start both teams needed to get the season rolling in the right direction. The Ice Buckets started the game extremely well, some great set plays allowing them to run through the Huskies defence seemingly at will. Again the Huskies keeper Keiren McDonald kept the Huskies in the game, with some great saves. This kind of start seems to be turning into a habit for the Huskies and after holding out the initial onslaught they regained dominance around mid way through the first half. Huskies started breaking through the Ice buckets, but could never get close to goals. Their long range attempts while good were easy pickings for the Ice buckets goalie. So nil all at half time. The second half started as the first finished with the Huskies maintaining the pressure. Some good through passing from Glen and Simmo saw more shots on goal. Unfortunately accuracy was never a Huskies strong point and there were quite a few misses. Ice Buckets seemed to weather this for a while before getting a little annoyed and mounting a strong counter attack, that saw them with three people attacking the Huskies goal and only 1 defender and the goalie in the way. A great diving save from Kieran kept out the first shot, but this left an open goal and the Ice Buckets in possession. Somehow Kieran managed to get back across before the shot and dive on the ball to stop play. After this both teams seemed to just slow down as though they were both waiting for overtime. So nil all at full time. Overtime was pretty even for the first half and it looked like it could still be anyone's game. Then Glen from the Huskies was sent off for a contentious call of being in the crease and with 4 on three momentum swung into the Ice Buckets favour. Huskies held out well and this one went to a draw. Looks like neither team got the kick start they were looking for.

Wildebeests vs. The Penguins by Ryan Findlayson
Again Wildebeests struggling for numbers. Three of their six players having played multiple games, and the other three getting injured during the game. A lot of hanging back in a very defensive game. It always looked like it was going to be nil all at the end of normal time. Unfortunately what could of been a very interesting overtime period was marred by a Wildebeest getting penalized just before the end of normal time. It didn't take long for Penguins to use the man advantage in OT, and for Jason Wheeler to give the Penguins the OT victory.

OT the GO !!
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington Ninjas by Ryan Findlayson
Druids starting off the stronger, but as the first half progressed, the Ninjas seemed to wrestle the momentum to their side. Both sides causing good saves by the keepers, and the score was 0-0 at half time. The second half for the most part belonged to the Ninjas. Druids still a few great chances, but a four minute period towards the end of normal time saw Ninjas camped down the Druids end, and putting shot after shot. Strong defense, and great keeping by Kieran McDonald stopped Ninjas from converting, and thus sending the game into OT. Druids had most the run in OT, lazy defense by Ninjas saw Lauren Goulden free to jump on a loose rebound and give Druids the OT win.

Richmond Ravens vs. Penrith City Rangers by Bryan Macklin...Not!
Rangers ran round a lot, Ravens chased them, Ravens got the ball and ran round lots, Rangers chased them. Bryan Macklin was too lazy and stopped running, Ravens got passed him, other Rangers chased Ravens. No one scored in regulation time. Into OT and Rangers chased Rangers who chased Ravens and still no one scored. Again MAcklin was lazy and again Rangers lost the ball and again no one scored. Hence after 5 minutes of tense OT it was a 0-0 draw. Macklin again was too lazy to do a real write up. Although he did do one last week that wast credited to him.

Wildebeests End Flight of the Phoenix
Penguins vs. Polar Bears by Daniel Wong
After a whole season of broomball running on time this game was no different with both teams missing key players for the start of the game. The Polar Bears took the lead in the first minute with Jason Lessels scoring off passing from Mark Kim and Luke Petelczyc. At 8:40 to go in the first half The Penguins equalise with a good hard shot by Troy Viney near the blue line. Brock Lessels responds scoring off a Shallon Williams pass at 4:23 to go. Proving that it does pay to play hard until the buzzer The Penguins score a questionable goal in the last 10 seconds of the first half. The ball which was slammed from wide out somehow found its way into the nets after a deflecting off sticks, feet and hands which were everywhere. The second half was a bit slower with Sam Boer and Karen Thompson controlling most of it but Amran Sinha was able to win it for The Penguins with a good breakaway goal. FINAL SCORE 3 - 2 to The Penguins.

Team IceBucket vs. Low Riders by Russell Gregory
Russell was to sick to do a write up so didnt..

Wildebeests vs. Phoenix by Bob Irwin
A slow start to the game with players late, this turned out to be a free flowing game with both sides happy to pass the ball around without asserting too much defensive pressure. Bob Irwin opened the scoring early in the first half with a back post sweep from an Aron Calfas switch pass that took a deflection off the diving keeper into Bob's path. The remainder of the first half saw plenty of end to end and running good passing from both teams, however, no cracks opened up in either defence. Aron Calfas injected himself into the second half with a lovely breakaway goal that showcased his speed and skill with the ball at his feet. A switch of play and a reverse pass saw Aron on the end, sprinting through the centre and slotting it past the keeper. Just a minute later, from a very wide angle with not much on, he let rip with a missile that put the ball into the back of the net again. After that, both teams went into their shell with plenty of scrappy play into the middle, but neither team scored again. Wilderbeasts 3-nil.

Rangers Show Some Early Form
Werrington County Sonics vs. Penrith City Rangers by
A first up win for the Sonics and a bucket load of goals for Tim Brown started them off on the right foot in season 2006. Their second round game would see them face off against the Rangers, coming off a first round bye and last season's wooden spoon. A run of form towards the end of last season and with new recruit Sara Kristof, Rangers potentially show some promise this season. This was damaged early on in the game, when a hard shot from Tim Brown was deflected in by Sonics Dee Scarano. Rangers continued to battle on, looking more patient on the ball than in seasons past, but still not being able to break a very quality Sonic's defense. Ranger's look to use the loads of speed players in their ranks to unsettle the defense and this finally happened when Daniel Wong latched onto a pass and took off downfield. His first shot was stopped by the keeper but took the second shot from the spill and didn't miss. Going into the break, scores even at 1 a piece. The second half was a tight contest, no real stand out chances for either team. The deadlock remained all through the half. O/T also wouldn't produce many chances, although Sonic's new recruit and A Grade rookie Chris Dezman went the closest, only missing due to a luckily placed Ranger's foot. Final score, 1-1.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Richmond Ravens by Saxon Hooper
This game ended up 3-0 but was in fact much closer. One of those games where the shots went for one team and not the other. Druids opened the scoring with a 1-2 combination between Tracy Ivin and Saxon Hooper which had Saxon Hooper bouncing a hard shot into the goals. 1-0 half time Druids, an even first half with Sam Boer, John Magnisalis combining well up front for Ravens. 2nd half saw Hooper in again with a hard (slightly miss hit) shot sneaking through screens and defenders to beat an unsighted keeper. Ravens still in the contest maintaining a good tight man to man defence with Davin Harvey now injecting himself into the game making breaks and beating defenders. Unfortunately for Ravens they could find a goal and while pressing Damo Colyer made the steal and the break and fumbled in Druids 3rd goal sealing the win. 3-0 Druids.

B Division - Week 2
Penguins in OT
Penguins vs. Team IceBucket by Daniel Wong
After a really close game between these two teams in their trial match two weeks ago, this game was even tighter. Both teams started well keeping possession and not relying on their trademark fast breaks. Both teams had some good shots and one on ones with the keeper in regular time but were not able to convert. In the last minute of regular time Sara Kristof got severe cramps in both her legs leaving The Penguins with only 3 players for overtime. The Ice Buckets dominated overtime with Liam Golding, Chris Dezman and Lisa Price combining well in attack. Unfortunately they couldn't seem to get many good shots off, and when they did Daniel Wong or Jason Wheeler were there to block it and attempt the fast break. Finally after one of The Penguin's breaks Liam gets fouled off for tripping and evens up the teams. Shortly after Chris Dezman attempts a fast break down the side of the boards only for Jason Wheeler to get to the ball a split second earlier and pass it to a semi-open Daniel Wong on the half-way line. Lisa Price is unable to intercept the pass and The Penguins win in the last minute of overtime. FINAL SCORE: The Penguins 1 Ice Buckets 0 in overtime. Special mention to Helen Smith who played a whole game as well as defending superbly by herself in overtime.

Raptors vs. Phoenix by Andrew Chapman
Phoenix started the season in rare form last week, winning our first game of the season for the first time in years. Could we continue the run? Only just. Mid way through the first half Damo Colyer decided to finally shoot on target from a Krys Lockhart pass to put Phoenix up 1-0. It stayed this way until 7 minutes left in the game, and a very unmarked Martin Sultana got the ball from behind the Phoenix net, brought it around to the front and slotted one past the keeper. This all happened while 3 phoenix defenders stood there and watched. Not sure what happened there.... We'll have to work on that. Anyway, into overtime it went. I was supposed to sub off 1 minute into overtime - glad I didn't. Lauren Goulden passed me the ball, and then ran straight for the net from the side boards. I did a nice little backhand pass/shot at the keeper, but instead of the ball deflecting off the keeper for Lauren to retrieve and score, it went past 1 defender and over the legs of a sprawling keeper, to find itself in the back of the net. I'll take it! 2 in a row for Phoenix. Yay team!

Huskies vs. Low Riders by Jason Hall
Low riders having lost their first game and being down a girl would have had to have started this game against last years premiers as underdogs. Huskies riding high after a first up win seemed to think this would be an easy win. But in the world of broomball you should never take anything for granted. Low Riders Started the game in devastating fashion. Their long range attack not requiring them to even get close to the Huskies goals meant they could unleash a barrage of shots almost at will. Huskies keeper Kieran McDonald having a great start to the game keeping them out. Huskies traditional defence seemed ineffective against this type of attack and they had to scramble to try and limit the shooting opportunities. With 4:10 to go in the 1st Dee Scarano managed to sneak one past off an assist from Nathan Lawler. 1 - nil at the end of the first half. Huskies seemed to re-gather their thoughts over the break. Not really changing the defence much, but noticing the Low riders were light in defence themselves and staging fast counter attacks. This strategy seemed to work. Placing the low riders in a more defensive frame of mind and allowing the Huskies more freedom of movement. When deep in the second half the Low Riders lost 2 players in a row it looked almost certain the Huskies had to score. Shots rained in on the LR goals from all over the ice. It was a brilliant display of shooting. Unfortunately there was a better display on at the same time. That of defence. The LR's goalie amazingly blocking everything that managed to get by the defence. A very committed and deserving Low Riders team notching up their first win of the season. Huskies getting a lesson that they need to be switched on from the first whistle.

Season Underway
Werrington County Sonics vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Bit of a flat start to the season for Druids, only just managing to field a team without subs. Sonics were missing a couple but still had some subs. Despite this Druids hung in there and went blow for blow with Sonics in the first half. 0-0 half time. Just minutes into the 2nd half, goal scoring machine Tim Brown sprinted through on a break. Damo Colyer managed to block his shot but the rebound fell for Tim who calmly flicked past the keeper 1-0 Sonics. Ten minutes later a defensive turn over saw Saxon Hooper win posession for Druids deep in sonics defensive zone. A few steps and a hard shot slotted in off the inside of the left upright. 1 all with 10 to go. Sonics were starting to come over the top of Druids as they tired, Druids resorting to fast break attacks. With 2.48 to go in the game, Tim Brown left unmarked had a good hard shot on the keeper. It sqeezed through to give Sonics a 2-1 lead. With Druids pushing for an equaliser Tim Brown completed his hat trick with a long shot which was expertly screened by Luke Petelczyc, giving the keeper no chance to see it. A very Druid like goal for Sonics to seal the win. 3-1 Sonics.

Werrington Ninjas vs. Richmond Ravens by Ryan Findlayson
Always a close battle, and a suitable match up for the final game of the opening night of 2006. A minute or two to warm up, and then the game explodes. Ninjas having half a dozen shots, but couldn't convert. Ravens counter attacked and Sam Boer put away the opener early in the first half. Ninjas again with speed and enthusiasm created several chances, and found the back of the net with one, but unfortunately for them it came off the arm instead of the stick. Ravens also dangerous in attack, at one stage had a shot with the keeper out of position, but desperate defense kept the ball out. Late in the first half, Josh Drinkall took a speculative shot for Ninjas from just over half way, and with the assistance of a defenders stick, beat the keeper a levelled up the scores. There was more fun and games in the second half, still at a frantically high pace. Ravens creating a few 2 on 1 opportunities, but again some desperate defense (and good keeping) helped Ninjas stay level. Ninjas making some quick transitions into attack, forcing the Ravens to keep up the pace. A few shots in a row, and some desperation to retain possesion resulted in Peter Yabsley giving the Ninjas the lead halfway through the second half. The pace didn't slow down, and both teams continued to pressure, but neither could convert again. So Ninjas 2-1 in another close battle with the Ravens!!!

Away We Go
Phoenix vs. Low Riders by No One from Either Slack Team
Phoenix turned around the result of last week's scratch match winning 1-0.

Wildebeests vs. Polar Bears by Luke Petelczyc
Polarbears first game of the new season was always gonna be a tough one for them. Missing key player eric due to early retirement, Polar Bears were found wanting. Trechourous scumbag Andrew Leahy put lots of pressure on his old team, forcing Polar Bears into a defensive position for most of the game. Full time the PB's still had a chance drawing 1 all, with the game going into overtime. Little did PB's realise the other team had been a player down for the whole game. Polar Bears managed to scrape through thanks to a BOER-LESSELS combo. PB's win their first game of the season.

Huskies vs. Raptors by Jason Hall
Traditionally a good close game, the Huskies having won the last few match ups, meant that the Raptors were looking to get some bragging rights early this season. As usual with the likes of Davin Harvey and the Sultana brothers, Raptors came out hard and this was a fast paced game from the outset. With the Raptors not having any subs and the Huskies managing to scrape one together, this could have been a tactical error for the Raptors. The Huskies looking to tire them out for a good finish. Late in the first half this seemed to be working. The Huskies were mounting good pressure and though the Raptors were managing to hold them out, they did not seem to be able mount their trade mark counter attacks. Then super sub Kevin Chen arrived late to give the Raptors some fresh legs. Allowing them to finish the first half on a high, though they were unlucky not to score. 0 all at half time. Second half saw the Huskies come out well. Karl Pryor scoring with 14:50 to go, it was a good set goal off the back of some solid passing from the rest of the team. Ironically it was the Huskies tiring fast after this, with them shutting down offensively and hoping to just hold onto the small lead. Raptors spotted this and attacked well especially off the fast break. Again they were very unlucky not to score a couple of times. A very tired Huskies team managed to claw out a 1 nil win against the Raptors. Both teams showing some great potential in their first game of the seasons.

Huskies vs. Raptors by Davin Harvey
Slow game Monday night from both sides, the Xmas break showing for both teams. Single goal to Huskies where Raptors defence struggled saw them come away with it. Look forward to next week to turn our start around.

New Awards - Most valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Season
New Season, New Awards
For some seasons now people have been asking to include a Most Valuable Player award. So for the first time we will have the award. We will also add the Defensive Player of the Season Award. Both will be awarded in male and female versions as per points award. After each game the two referees from the duty team will get together and decide 3,2,1 votes for the MVPs (3 being the most valuable player, 2 for 2nd most valuable player etc) of the game and 2,1 votes for the defensive players of the game. Votes go to male or female, from either team. A player/goalie can get both MVP and Defensive votes from the one game. Votes will be entered on the voting form, and sealed in an envelope. Voting is to be kept secret (I like surprises...).
