Division A - Grand Final
Druids Go Back to Back by Gemma Fornal
The Druids have claimed their second consecutive NSW A-Grade Broomball title against the Ninjas at Penrith Ice Palace on the 18th December, 2004.
While both teams tried to keep the play tactical, the Druids looked dangerous from the outset. Three and a half minutes in and the Druids' captain Saxon Hooper looked to flick pass to Tim Ollerton but instead switched his footing and ran around the Ninjas' defender. The Ninjas rallied back and gave the Druids no room to play.
Six minutes in and the Ninjas' Kate Laybutt was sent off for two minutes for a high stick penalty. Despite being a player down, the Ninjas continued their sturdy defence.
Soon that defence was broken with Ollerton scoring for the Druids from a Damien Colyer assist. Ollerton was sent off for clipping in the same play.
With five and a half minutes left in the first half, the Druids' Steve Larter was sent off for tripping the Ninjas' Josh Drinkall. The penalty surprised a number of spectators as it did not appear that contact had been made between the two players. Nevertheless, the Ninjas had another advantage and this time made the most of it.
One minute later Laybutt crossed to Linda Bell. Bell then passed to Andrew Chapman who miraculously scored for the Ninjas, despite the crowded goal area.
Larter was barely back on the ice when Hooper was sent for a high stick penalty. This put the Druids in danger for another two minutes.
Ninjas' captain Peter Yabsley took a powerful shot that was almost certain to cross the goal line until Ollerton ran across the face of the goals and blocked the shot.
With only 34 seconds left in the first half, Drinkall went for a final run from the halfway line but was kept to the wing and was unable to score from the wide angle.
The Ninjas had gathered momentum leading up to half time and with the scores locked at one-all, the Druids had some work to do.
When the Druids' Angela Nasr swept the ball over the red line to win possession for her team in the first minute of the second half, the Druids picked up their aggression in attack.
Excellent teamwork from Hooper and Colyer looked threatening but the Ninjas' goalkeeper was on top of his game.
This did not discourage the Druids who again broke through the Ninjas defensive line, teaching them a valuable lesson with Tracy Ivin passing to Hooper for another Druids goal.
Four and a half minutes into the second half, Drinkall was sent off for slashing. Ivin was injured in the incident but came back into the game after only 30 seconds of recuperation. In the entire first minute of Drinkall's penalty, the ball did not leave the Ninjas' defensive zone.
With seven and a half minutes left on the clock, Hooper took the ball and ran with it. Faced with only the goalkeeper, he tried to slot it in the bottom corner. The keeper was too quick, getting down low and managing to trap the ball right on the goal line.
Larter headed the next attack less than one minute later, but the Druids were denied by the keeper again.
Larter's attacking continued but the Ninja's defence stepped up and he was stopped by Drinkall.
With one minute left in the game the Ninjas were desperate to equalise and force the Druids to battle it out in overtime. When the Druids hit the ball for icing, the Ninjas snatched the ball from the face-off. Chapman tried to cross the ball in but it was intercepted by Colyer.
Ollerton again put his body on the line by using his foot to block a mighty shot from Yabsley. There were only 20 seconds left and hopes faded for the Ninjas.
Druids held on to win 2-1 in normal time.
Victorious team captain, Hooper said; "I predicted these two teams would be in the final right at the beginning of the season.
"Ninjas have been strong the whole way through and I knew they would be tough to play against.
"This was a physical game with both teams having a high regard for possession and not rushing their offence."
The Ninjas and Druids were placed first and second respectively after the normal rounds. In the qualifying final the Ninjas actually beat the Druids and forced them into a playoff against the Sonics for the other spot in the Grand Final.
In the other divisions, Guinness claimed their first B-Grade championship since entering the competition in January 2001; C-Grade was won by "We Luv Bubba Ganoosh" and D-Grade was won by the "Low Riders".
Broomball will return to Penrith Ice Palace on 31st of January 2005 but in the meantime, the NSW Broomball Association, in conjunction with other Broomball Associations around Australia, will be holding a "Charity Shield" to raise money for victims of the tsunami. Corporate, small business and social teams can participate in a round robin tournament with a minimum of three games plus the possibility of finals games. All protective gear and playing equipment will be supplied and people with little or no broomball experience are encouraged to participate. Stay tuned for more details or contact Saxon Hooper on 0412-181-702 if you would like to be involved.

Division B - Grand Final
At Long Last for Guinness
Guinness were one of the founding B teams back in Januray 2001, they have been in every finals series since without ever winning one.
Golden Falcons joined in the second season and like Guinness have never one a B division title either.
Guinness got past Phoenix and defeated last seasons B division champions Team IceBucket to make the final.
While Golden Falcons have coasted all season sweeping all before them.
Tough tight game ensued with Guinness using good formation to counter Falcons speedy attack.
Attack after attack broke down by the Guinness defence.
In attack they were composed, however the Falcon defence scrambled well and also broke it down.
0-0 at half time.
Finally with only eight minutes to go in the game Dane Hansen scored for Guinness.
Falcons turned it up as Guinness went into defence mode however Falcons couldnt crack the Guinness defence.
Guinness holding on to record their first B division title.
Still a great season for Golden Falcons only losing 2 games, unfortunately one was the grand final.
18-DEC-2004
Division C - Grand Final
We Luv Bubba Ganoosh All the Way
Bubba Ganoosh have been way out in front all season and were firm favourites for the C division title.
In their way was a fast finishing Raptors who were storming through the finals and had just upset The Unforgiven in preliminary final.
All thoughts of another upset for Raptors were quashed as Bubba Ganoosh started on fire.
Aron Calfas scoring for Ganoosh in just 50 seconds.
Less than two minutes later Mark Dasco extended the lead to 2 goals.
Four minutes later Mark Dasco had a double and Babba Ganoosh were 3 goals in front.
You might think that Babba Ganoosh would let up a bit and defend their lead, however not the case.
Three minutes after the third goal and 10 minutes into the game they had their 4th through Aron Calfas.
Aron then completed his hatrick with a goal in the 15th minute of the half.
5-0 Half time to Bubba Ganoosh.
Raptors kept Ganoosh out for the first 8 minutes of the second half and with 12 minutes to go scored one of their own through Davin Harvey.
Then just 35 seconds later they were in again through Louis Sultana.
11 minutes to go could they do the unbelievable come back ??
No, Ganoosh settled and Raptors seemed to run out of steam, Bubba Ganoosh romping in the C division grand final 5-2.
18-DEC-2004
Division D - Grand Final
Low Riders Ride High
Polar Bears surprised everyone by winning through to the D division grand final to take on favourites Low Riders.
With 11.40 to go in the first half James Dymond scored first for Low Riders set up by Sam Zingini and his brother Aaron Dymond.
Within 3 minutes Polar Bears tied it up bringing the growing crowd to life with a goal to Dave Buckley assited by Paul Yui.
No further scores for the half, 1-1 half time.
The status quo remained for 5 minutes in the second half until Aaron Dymond scored Low Riders second goal with an assist from Sam Zingini.
Jonathan Bracs got Low Riders third goal with nine minutes remaining in the game 3-1.
The with seven to go came the crushing blow for Polar Bears.
When on a break the Bears looked certain to score, however the save was made and Low Riders broke to score at the other end with Brad Gregory making it 4-1.
If Polar Bears had scored on the break the score would have been 3-2 with 7 to go with the bears on the press, instead the turnover cost them the game.
Low Riders claiming a title in their first season on broomball.

16-DEC-2004
Division B - Preliminary Final
Guinness win thriller
The B division finals have been excellent.
Another one between Guinness and Team IceBucket last night.
Guinness played with poise and good possession, Team IceBucket relying on steals and fast breaks.
Both teams had heaps of chances, shots going wide, keepers making unbelievable saves.
With only a minute to go, a lose ball in front of the net ended up with Guinness Josh Drinkall who belted it into the roof of the goal.
The goal a heart breaker for Team Icebucket was enough to put Guinness into the grand final vs the Golden Falcons.
16-DEC-2004
Division C - Preliminary Final
Unforgiven Go Down
The Unforgiven went into this game as overwhelming favourites, having only lost two games all year.
For quite a while it looked like they would win as they had all the possession, all the opportunities and all the near misses.
Raptors however hung in there and denied them every time.
0-0 half time.
Early in the second half again with The Unforgiven on attack a turnover saw Louis Sultana break and score for Raptors.
Two minutes later John Flaherty laid off to Katherine Packer who belted it in for a 2-0 lead.
The final nail in the coffin came when Davin Harvey scored Raptors 3rd goal with 2 minutes to go.

Polar Bears taking advantage of this using their numerical advantage to run the young Clownz off their feet.

Then with only 1 minute on the clock Dave Buckley again scored sealing the win and grand final spot for Polar Bears.

Division A - Week 18 - Finals
Ninjas into the A Division Final - Dragons Eliminated
Elimination Final - Sonics Vs. Mighty Dragons
Sonics vs Mighty Dragons in the Summer 2004 elimination final.
Only a minute and a half in and Sonics on the board, a neat deflection from James Ray from Tim Brown.
The goal stung Dragons into action, who had the bulk of posession and majority of the shots.
However they were unable to convert.
Sonics maintaining their 1-0 lead until half time.
More of the same in the second, all Dragons in attack with Sonics hanging on for grim death.
With only a minute on the clock and Dragons all pushing forward a Tim Brown break saw Scott Murray finish it for a 2-0 win to Sonics.
Sonics into the preliminary final on Thursday.
Qualifying Final - Ninjas Vs. Druids
Ninjas had dominated the Druids in their last two encounters, but somehow Druids managed to draw both games (losing one in OT).
This game was the opposite, Druids piling on all the pressure, hitting posts and forcing the keeper into good saves.
However Ninjas hung on and scrambled well waiting for their chance.
It came two minutes before halftime when Tiom Ollerton took out the Ninja keeper and had to sit for 2 minutes.
With some patient passing and a good shot Peter Yabsley put Ninjas 1-0 in front with a minute left in the first half.
Second half Druids amped it up camping in attack, just missing and again forcing really really good saves from the Ninjas keeper.
The final few minutes were a frenzy but Druids could not crack the Ninja defence.
Ninjas held on for a gutsy 1-0 win and take the first spot in the grand final.
Druids take on Sonics in the Thursday night preliminary final to see who gets a crack at Ninjas on Saturday.
Remember big CROWDS !! Get the family, friends, work mates down to watch !!
13-DEC-2004
Division B - Week 18 - Finals
Golden Falcons into their first Grand Final - Phoenix Gonnne !!
Qualifying Final - Golden Falcons Vs. Team IceBucket
This was an all time classic.
Team IceBucket controlled all the early play and were unlucky not to score on a number of occassions.
Golden Falcons have been making teams pay all year on the counter and they were first on the board through Ryan Findlayson 18 minutes into the game.
1-0 to the minor premiers at half time.
It took 7 minutes to pass in the second period for Liam Golding to square it all up for Team IceBucket.
The game then heated up a bit with both teams loosing their cool and committing stupid penalties (non contact remember).
So 14 penalty minutes served gave teams plenty of chances on the other team.
With only 4 minutes on the clock Mark Slater combined with Louis Sultana to put Falcons back on top 2-1.
You could sense though that the Buckets were not finished with and with 2 minutes to go a firm shot by Bryan Macklin found Mark Ruleski on the post to redirect it in.
2-2 all 2 to go !!
Thats how it stayed and we were heading to OT.
These teams mustnt have played too much OT in the normnal season because neither handled it very well.
With 3 minutes to go Linda Bell broke the deadlock and the single goal was enough for Golden Falcons to win and move into the Grand Final on Saturday.
Team IceBucket not out of it as they play in the preliminary final on Thursday vs the winner of Guinness and Phoenix.
Elimination Final - Guinness Vs. Phoenix
Only took Guinness 3 minutes to go pass pass goal in a perfect start to the game.
Bec Cashell to Davin Harvey to Dane Hansen Goal.
One minute later it was on again.. pass pass goal... Jo Mitchell to Dane to Kevin Chen.. Goooooaallll !!
2 - 0 four minutes into the game.
Phoenix finally woke up and arrested the problem of free players in front of their net and kept Guinness to 2 for the half, unfortunately no goals coming their way either.
They didnt have to wait long though as a minute into the second half they were on the board when Andrew Chapman got on the end of a Damian Colyer pass to make it 2-1.
A couple minutes later John Flaherty laid it off for Josh Drinkall to waltz through the defence from the blue line right up to about 10 feet out where he somehow had time to belt it straight into the goals.
3-1 Guinness.
Phoenix gave themself some more hope when they were again next to score with still 12 minutes left in the game.
Erica Swanton giving the ball to Damian Colyer to score... DAMO !!!!! went the crowd !!
3-2 another good game on the brew.
With Phoenix pressing and two minutes to go Dane Hansen made the break and got a lucky bounce and then tipped it over the keeper.
4-2 Guinness the final score
Phoenix eliminated and Guinness to take on Team IceBucket in the preliminary final Thursday night.
09-DEC-2004
Division C - Finals
We Luv Bubba Ganoosh into the C Final
Qualifying Final - We Luv Bubba Ganoosh Vs. The Unforgiven
The surprising appearance of Linda Bell gave The Unforgiven a boost, and the unprecedented numbers
for We Luv Bubba Ganoosh, gave them a whole load of energy. Let me tell you, this game was a cracker.
Both teams showing some genuine skill, vision, and very impressive deffense. Both teams looked like
they were going to score at any moment, only to be stopped by a desperate lunge, or some great
keeping. While both teams looke dlike they were going to score, neither team could manage in the first
half. 0-0 at half time.
This surely could not continue for the whole of the second half?? But in the main part, it did. Both
teams gave it everything to pounce on any loose balls. The pace of the game starting to show, as players
started slowing down. This gave Aron Calfas the chance to use his natural speed, and did so, grabbing
an unassisted deadlock breaker.
The Unforgiven knowing they had to, found another resevoir of energy, but as there attempts, one
after another, got thwarted, the energy level started to wane again. Thus were unable to level the scores.
Bubba Ganoosh through to the C grade final winning 1-0.
Elimination Final - Raptors Vs. Huskies
The Huskies very dissappointed to be down a girl in this elimination match, and the Raptors taking
advantage of this. The Huskies very happy just to see the ball leave their half. They pulled themselves
together however, realising they still had a chance aslong as someone was out there. Occasionally
getting possesion in Raptor territory, but unfortunately this gave opportunity for Karen Daffy to set Davin
Harvey free down the sideline and angle in to open the account for the Raptors.
Raptors making a few more breakaways in the opening half, but couldn't figure out any effective one
on one tactics. So 1-0 Raptors at half time.
The game turned very even in the second half, but a blast from John Flaherty giving the Raptors a
comfortable two goal lead, meant that the Raptors remained calm, even under pressure. This changed
when Glen Butler-Flemming narrowed the gap with only a couple of minutes remaining. But this is the
way it stayed. So 2-1 taking Raptors through to play The Unforgiven for a spot in the C grade final.
Meanwhile Huskies season ends, but were very competitive with most teams throughout the season.
09-DEC-2004
Division D - Finals
Low Riders Favourites
Qualifying Final - Carney Clownz Vs. Low Riders
Low Riders have been dominating in every D grade game they've played, and Carney Clownz have had
comfortable victories against everyone except Low Riders. This game was just the same, Low Riders
easily getting a 3-0 lead before half time. An amazing display of soccer skills on ice carving up the
Carney Clownz. Carney Clownz, defending much better in the second half only giving away a breakaway
goal with 3.5 seconds on the clock to give the Low Riders a 4-0 victory, and a spot in the D-Grade Final.
Carney Clownz take on the Polar Bears next week for the remaining spot.
Elimination Final - Polar Bears Vs. The Replacements
Polar Bears started stronger, having the territorial advantage for the majority of the openning minutes.
The Replacements major attack method came from breakaways, but couldn't control the ball for the
length of the ice. Polar Bears pressure eventually paying off when Melanie Kohler scored through a
crowded goal area.
Replacements then gathered together and started to get some attacking possesion together, forcing a
couple of good saves from the Polar Bears. Polar Bears responding by scoring a goal late in the half
through David Buckley. 2-0 Polar Bears at Half Time.
Second half the Replacements really started to gain the ascendancy, getting more and more
possesion, and creating more and more chances. But it was about halfway through the half before they
broke through via Brad Gregory.
Spurred on by this, they continued to look dangerous, and with about 6 minutes remaining they
levelled the scores, again through Brad Gregory. So 2-2 all and the overtime became a possibility. Now
with Polar Bears effort level dramatically increased, the last stages of normal time, turned into some
great desperation broomball. Both teams almost breaking the deadlock, and with under a minute
remaining, Polar Bears did so, Josh Yabsley very excited by his goal, and taking Polar Bears through to
the next match, while The Replacements season ends, but did very well for their first attempt and will be
a team of the future. 3-2 Polar Bears.
13-DEC-2004

Division A - Week 16
Dragons clinch 4th Spot
Slytherin needed Pirates to win, Pirates needed to win to make the finals but so did Mighty Dragons.
Game started evenely with Pirates taking the early lead.
Dragons pulled it back before Karen Thompson put Pirates in front again.
Finals spot beckoning Pirates were doing all the right things.
However Dragons had other ideas evening it up and then going on a rampage to finish in the final 4 defeating Pirates by 7-2.
Phantoms and Sonics played out a great game with plenty of pace and skill.
Sonics eventually getting home thanks to a double to Jay Schmidt, 2-1.
Ninjas and Druids at 2 and 1 on the A table, fought out a tough 0-0 draw.
Ninjas all over Druids for most of the game unlucky not to take the lead.
So OT called for and again all Ninjas except for on the score board 0-0 again.
With one round to go Mighty Dragons are securely in 4th spot having gained the win they needed.

Division A - Week 15
A Division Hots UP
Mighty Dragons and Pirates are locked in a four way battle with Slytherin and Sonics for the last two finals spots.
So Mighty Dragons vs Pirates games over the next two weeks are must win if either team wants to see some finals action.
For some reasons Pirates didnt click tonight and Mighty Dragons did, piling on 3 unanswered goals and moving into 4th spot ahead of Pirates and Slytherin.
Pirates need to reverse Mondays result next week and defeat Ninjas in the final round to make the finals.
Mighty Dragons just have to win next week to repel both Slytherin and Mighty Dragons for 4th spot.
Ninjas and Druids play each other twice in two weeks to decide the minor premiership.
Not much between the two teams.
Ninjas on the board first through Shannon Jorda tapping one in from close range.
Saxon Hooper hit back for Druids 1-1 at full time.
Katie Laybutt got the OT winner for Ninjas early in the period.
In the final game of the night Sonics were looking to secure a finals berth and Phantoms playing for pride to register a win for the season.
Phantoms never really looked in the game but hung in there and managed 0-0 at half time.
Into the second half, Scott Murray dragged down an intercept and laid it off for Tim Brown to hammer home from the blue line.
1-0 was enough for Sonics to get home and secure a finals spot after missing out last season.
22-NOV-2004
Division B - Week 15
Final 4 Already Known !!
The Penguins have struggled all season because of a lack of consistent numbers and last night was no different.
Bouyed by the return of James Kristof, but were missing Sara Kristof.

Phoenix accounted for Ice Wizards with a 3-1 win sealing their finals spot.

With only 5 seconds to go Liam Golding tied it up to send it to OT.
Kerry Baxter gaining the extra point for Sonics with the OT winner.
Pirates minus Sam Boer and Karen Thompson took on top of the table Druids.
A few people thought this may turn into a rerun of last weeks Phantoms vs Druids game.
Not the Pirates though as young Tim Edwards drilled the opening goal.
Finally a long range hit by Tracy Ivin got through a screen past the keeper and into the net to tie it up for Druids.
Into the second half and both teams had many chances but none were converted.
Final score 1-1 and into OT.
From the face off a through ball to Tim Ollerton saw a hard shot saved by in form defender Ceez Kim, unfortunately the rebound went straight back to Tim who fed the ball to Tracy Ivin to put in the winner.

Druids keep Rolling on !!
Slytherin and Mighty Dragons played out a very even game except for one five minute period where Slyterin piled on 3 goals.
Phantoms have been struggling all season as they have struggled to get the same team on the ice each week.
Started well vs table leading Druids scoring the first goal.
Druids evened it up late in the half for a 1-1 half time scoreline.
For ten minutes of the second it stayed 1-1 until Phantoms seemed to tire and the flood gates opened to the tune of 7 goals in 10 minutes.
8-1 record winning result for Druids.
A great first half by Sonics saw them put on 3 goals.
Ninjas got one back and really applied the pressure for the rest of the game but couldnt bridge the gap.
3-1 win for Sonics.

Druids Cement Top Spot
A 3-0 win to Druids cements their first place in the A division.
All three goals to Saxon Hooper.
Phantoms were last years minor premiers, however this season with a horrible injury toll they are without a win.
Phantoms got away to a good start with an early goal, then midway through the second half doubled their lead to 2-0.
Slytherin never a team to give in scored twice in the last 5 minutes to force OT which they won when Ryan Findlayson completed his hatrick.
Slytherin stealing away Phantoms first chance of a win for the season with a great come from behind effort.
Pirates on a 3 game winning streak took on an Ninjas out fit growing in confidence with every game.
After a goaless first half Peter Yabsley got through the defence with a neat pass for Shannon Jorda to chip hard past the keeper for a 1-0 Ninja lead.
Pirates responded having all the run of play from then, with Kosta Sourlas putting in a trade mark Kosta crease goal tieing the game at 1 all.
Pirates probably should have sealed the victory with several good chances late in the game but couldnt find the net.
OT with Ninja Peter Yabsley getting the win for his team.
11-OCT-2004
Division B - Week 9
Polar Bears Bounce Back
Phoenix and The Penguins fought out a dour match, both teams failing to convert any of their many many chances.
In the end a single goal to Ben Robson for Phoenix proved to be the difference.
1 - 0 win to Phoenix.
Polar Bears backing up after the 2nd heaviest defeat in Penrith Broomball history, a 10-0 thrashing at the hands of the Golden Falcons were playing 2nd placed Guinness in the last game of the night.
Davin Harvey put Guinness in the lead.
A fast break for Guinness and a hard shot lead to goalie Luke Petelzcyc getting hit very very firmly in the MUZ !!
Down he went, all the guys laughed about it while he squirmed.
Eventually he got up and the game continued.
Brock Lessels returning from injury got through the defence and nailed a Polar Bear goal to tie it up.
A disallowed Guinness goal late in the game for Jo Mitchell meant we were headed for overtime.
OT couldnt decide a winner and we all had to settle for a 1-1 all draw.
04-OCT-2004
Division A - Week 8
Pirates on a Roll
Druids started the night with another single goal win over Slytherin, must say I enjoyed playing this one.
Fast and very competitive, Druids just getting home again 3-2.
Pirates stretched their winning streak to 3 defeating Sonics with a single goal to Kosta Sourlas straight out of his own text book.
Mighty Dragons got back into the winners circle with a 3-1 win over the injury stricken Phantoms.
04-OCT-2004
Division B - Week 8
Falcons leave Polar Bear Carcasses all over the Ice
Team IceBucket snuck past The Penguins with a 2-1 win.
Golden Falcons caught fire in the second half vs Polar Bears piling on 8 goals to complete the 10-0 thrashing.
There has only been one bigger defeat in the history of Penrith Broomball, 69ers losing by 12 to the Crusaders in the 2nd ever season before divisions were settled.
Phoenix got a much needed win vs Guinness in the last game of the night.
30-SEP-2004
Division C - Week 6
The Replacements Chalk up First Win
Low Riders comfortably accounted for Carney Clownz 3-0.
While The Replacements chalked up their first (of what seems like many) wins beating POWS 3-1.
The later games were both won in OT with We Luv Bubba Ganoosh 2-1 over The Unforgiven.
Huskies reveresed the OT result from last years C final beating Raptors 2-1.
27-SEP-2004
Division A - Week 7
More Close Games
Pirates made it two wins in a row with a 1-0 win over the injury depleted Phantoms.
The single Kosta Sourlas goal assisted by John Skiadas and Gemma Fornal gave Pirates a much needed second win.
Will win streak continue vs the in form Sonics next week.
Sonics minus captain Tim Brown up against Slytherin in the second game of the night.
Was Tim missing ?? The ear part of the game suggested not as Kerry Baxter and Scott Murray poured on the pressure, unlucky not to score.
A late scrambed goal by Craig Horsley gave Slytherin the 1-0 win.
Ninjas finally with a settled roster look to be the big improvers of the comp and even with out running machine Shannon Jorda got past Mighty Dragons 3-1.
All goals coming at one end (we wont mention which and who was in goals).
27-SEP-2004
Division B - Week 7
Saving the Best for Last !!
Polar Bears finally stopped Phoenix's winning streak over them with a 2 nil win.
Much need confidence builder for the Polar Bears and another slow start to the season for Phoenix.
You would think Phoenix would start the season well considering the form they usually generate at the end of prior season.
The Penguins scored a tough 2-1 win over Ice Wizards minus both Scott Murray and Luke Simmonds.
The best game of the night was saved for last.
B grade heavy weights Guinness and Team IceBucket fought out an epic which got decided in the last seconds of the game.
With a minute to go Guinness leading the struggle 2-1 greg Dezman tied it up.
With OT looming Dane Hansen took a shot lying on the ground which took a deflection wrong footing the keeper and just beating the full time buzzer for a 3-2 win.
23-SEP-2004
Division C - Week 5
The Replacements Vs. Carney Clownz
Replacements in only their second game, had a chance up against the inexperienced Carney Clowns.
There was a fair bit of scrappy play before control became a priority.
This starting to pay off with both teams applying pressure in front of goals.
The Replacements getting their first goal through Melinda Aitken, who found the slot between the keepers legs.
This took them into a half time lead. The second was more about the Clownz, who started to string some good passing together and two goals the result, one to Joel Clough with a solid strike, and one to Nikki Pearce who tapped it in from the ideal post position.
Carney Clownz getting their first win on the board 2-1.
The Unforgiven vs POWs
The Unforgiven were clearly the dominant team, but kept throwing their opportunities away at the last minute.
It took the experience of Linda Bell to finish a Jason Solomon setup, just before half time.
POWs still with no answer in the second half, meant The Unforgiven came away with a 1-0 victory.
Huskies(exHunters) vs Polar Bears
Polar Bears a girl down, were showing good spirit, and creating a scattering of chances.
Huskies controlling a lot of ball, but didn't know how to finish.
Huskies finding themselves down after a John Tsui one handed steal/shot that caught the keeper unaware.
This lead held into the half time break.
More of the same in the second half, but this time it was David Buckley on the counter attack who extended Polar Bears lead.
Huskies fought hard to come back, and it looked possible when Jason Hall drew them within 1.
But the clock ticked away, and the Polar Bears came away victors 2-1.
20-SEP-2004
Division A - Week 6
Results Reversed..
Druids manage to reverse the result of 2 weeks ago by defeating Mighty Dragons 4-1.
Bit of luck went the Druids way on some of the goals.. much more even game than the results suggest.
Pirates grabbed their first win of the season reversing their 1-0 loss vs Slytherin with a 1-0 win.
Much better performance from Pirates who played more like a cohesive unit this week.
Phantoms tried hard again but were missing James Kristof and struggled to keep up with the full strength Ninjas team.
Ninjas getting away to a 2-0 lead, Phantoms did pull one back with Mark Kim scrambling one in but Ninjas held on for another 1 goal win (2-1) over last seasons Minor Premiers.

Shannon Jorda launches the shot just before a stretched Bryan Macklin can make the block.

Ball ends up in the back of then net for Phantom Mark Kim.. even though there was plenty of Ninjas in the area.
20-SEP-2004
Division B - Week 6
Upsets and lots of Goals !!
Ice Wizards upset the red hot Golden Falcons with a 4-2 win.
Scott Murray completed a hat trick before half time for the Wizards.
Guinness held out Polar Bears for a dour 1-0 win.
Phoenix had too much for Penguins piling on 5 goals.
However The Penguins did show some promise with good goals to Daniel Wong and Jason Wheeler.
16-SEP-2004
Division C - Week 4
First 4 Game Night !
The Unforgiven showing good form this year managed a 3-0 defeat of last years finalists Hunters who will be renaming themselves the Huskies soon.
Low Riders just got past POWs with a single goal to James Dymond.
The Replacements debuted vs Polar Bears and Polar Bears didnt let them ease into their first game belting them 7-0.
We Luv Bubba Ganoosh did a similar job on the other new team in the competition Carney Clownz handing out a 6-0 thrashing.
13-SEP-2004
Division A - Week 5
All Very Tight
Mighty Dragons missing stars Amy Magnisalis, John Magnisalis and Harry Sotiropoulos up against Slytherin missing new player Davin Harvey.
Game started fast but slowed as the lack of subs told on the teams.
Eventually a Con Sourlangos volley from a rebound save gave the Mighty Dragons a 1-0 win.
Phantoms scored first and carried the 1-0 lead to half time.
Second half saw the Druids convert some of their many chances and pile on 3 unanswered goals.
Phantoms got one late reducing the margin to 3-2 but couldnt convert again.
Sonics and Ninjas had a million chances each but coudnt convert them.
A Tim Brown shot from the blue line the only goal of the game.
1-0 Sonics who remain undefeated on top of the ladder.
All three A division games decided by a single goal in normal time.
13-SEP-2004
Division B - Week 5
Single Goal Decides it Again
All three B division games were decided by a single goal in normal time, meaning all 6 games on the night were decided by single goals in normal time.. everything is nice and tight.
Polar Bears got past Ice Wizards 2-1.
Golden Falcons contiued their winning ways with a tight 2-1 win over Guinness.
And Team IceBucket turned their form around with a 1-0 hold out of Phoenix.
02-SEP-2004
Division C - Week 3
The Replacements!!
Well after looking like I would only have 4-5 teams for C grade I have had a spurt of teams, new teams Carney Clownz and Low Riders and the reformed Robots into We Luv Bubba Ganoosh are joined by The Replacements.
So there is a new draw for the new 9 team comnp.
If you have an old draw printed.. scrap it !!
How will it work...? well I am glad you asked.
We will play 1 round of everyone playing everyone (8 games per team).
At the end of that the top 5 will go into Division C and the bottom 4 into division D.
We will play 1 round of that to determine the positions for finals.
Only games vs teams in your division from the 1st round will count towards the second round.
This essentially creates a 2 round comp.
Finals will be played at the end of that in each C and D divisions with both Grand Finals played on the Saturday with the A and B finals.
06-SEP-2004
Division A - Week 4
Write Ups Soon !!
All good tight games this week.
Mighty Dragons sealed their 4-2 win vs Druids with a goal with only 10 seconds to go.
Liam Golding proving his A grade worth with a 2 goal 1 assist game.
Slytherin managed just 1 goal to Ryan Findlayon vs Pirates but it was enough for the win.
Josh Drinkall poked home his first A division goal for a 1-0 Ninja win over Phantoms.
And even though Sonics didnt play and Tim Brown is down at the snow he is that on fire he managed 1 goal and 2 assists.
06-SEP-2004
Division B - Week 4
Same For B - Write Ups Soon
Polar Bears in a bit of a form slump and missing at least 4 or 5 players with injury did well to get to 1-1 with the red hot Golden Falcons.
However with only a couple to go Falcons scored keeping them undefeated for the season with a 2-1 win.
The Penguins were missing James Kristof so Team IceBucket thought they had a romp in the park.
Not the case as The Pengiuns through Daniel Wong had the better of the chances, however it was Russell Gregory providing the winner for the lucky current B division champs.
Guinness had too much for a 1 girl short Phoenix romping it in 3-0.
02-SEP-2004
Division C - Week 2
Raptors vs Carney Clownz
Raptors started strong against the new guys, getting a few good shots away in the first two minutes, but it was Carney Clowns who broke away and converted their chance through Martin Brennan, a clever chip to the far post.
Raptors hit back with many, many shots (most one-on-one with the keeper), but these were not converted.
They did get three on the board before half time through keeper errors.
In the second half, Raptors were still the dominant team, but not by as much.
Carney Clowns restricting Raptors to only a handfull of shots, while making severall attacking breaks themselves.
No one put any in for this half, so the final score was 3-1 to Raptors.
Hunters vs We Luv Bubba Ganoosh
Last week Bubba Ganoosh defeated last seasons champions, this week they faced the runners up, and disposed of them also.
Hunters couldn't keep pace with their speedy attacks, and had no way round the defense.
2 Goals to Aron Calfas, and 1 to Paul Hancock (Bob Irwin picking up 2 Assists) had Bubba Ganoosh as comfortable winners 3-0.
Unforgiven Vs Low Riders
Low Riders have been impressive new comers to the competition, and had another chance against a girl short Unforgiven outfit.
But Low Riders couldn't find a way into a scoring position, having to settle for long range shots, and hope.
Unforgiven on the other hand, made many chances, Tim Boyce making a triumphant return to Broomball, scoring the opening goal off a Mitch Tuza assist.
They later reversed the order, Tim assisting Mitch to give Unforgiven a 2-0 lead.
Late in the game, Low Riders did penetrate the Unforgiven defense, James Dymond setting up Daniel Gauci.
But it was too late. 2-1 Unforgiven.
30-AUG-2004
Division A - Week 3
Write Ups Soon !!
Been too busy for proper write ups, promise to get back to them when things settle down.
This week Sonics contiued their good form beating Mighty Dragons 4-1.
Four of the top five in the stats are Sonics with Tim Brown on 5 goals 5 assists after 3 games, 6 ahead of the closest player.
Last season 14 points won the award.. will take some pulling back.
Druids accounted for Pirates 3-0 and Ninjas got past Slytherin 1-0.
30-AUG-2004
Division B - Week 3
Same For B - Write Ups Soon
Polar Bears lead the game for thirty five minutes until The Penguins levelled it up 1-1.
The Penguins then stole the game in OT.
Last Seasons premiers got a wake up call from a Sultana infused Golden Falcons.
Both Sultana brothers scored on debut giving Golden Falcons a 5-1 win over the Buckets.
Ice Wizards upset Guinness in the other game.
26-AUG-2004
Division C - Week 1
Low Riders vs Polar Bears
Low Riders one of two new teams this season, looked very impressive in the warm up matches, and continued their form into the season opener.
Many attacking shots, but rarely on target.
Polar Bears on the other hand had two good opportunities either side of half time, but both hitting posts.
Low Riders eventually cracked the Polar Bears through weight of shots, firstly through Chris Moreton converting a cross from Sam Zinghini.
Secondly through James Dymond with a power shot.
So 2-0 Low Riders in the season opener.
Carney Clownz vs POWs
Carney Clowns the second of the new comer teams, were very tentative to begin with, but soon found some rhythm, to produce a very even contest with the POWs, both teams getting a few shots away in both halves.
It was a shot in the first half by Amir Vatandoust, that proved the difference, getting a deflection to the far post past the keeper for the only goal of the match.
1-0 POWs.
Raptors vs We Luv Bubba Ganoosh
Officially "We Luv Bubba Ganoosh", a new name for a surprisingly Can Opener like team.
Already the favourites to take out the season and acted like it.
Raptors periods of possesion were few and far between.
But to the surprise of most people watching, it was 0-0 at halftime.
Raptors new star keeper, John Flaherty, making some fantastic saves that the worlds best would be proud of.
The trend continued in the second half, with save after save being made.
But with six minutes remaining the dead lock was broken.
Aron Calfas with a break away, was very happy to finally convert.
1-0 final score to Bubba Ganoosh, but undoubtedly the man of the match being John Flaherty making about a dozen top shelf saves to keep his team in with a chance.

Division A - Week 2
New Season Begins
The new A division season kicked off with a grand final rematch between Slytherin and Druids.
In another tight battle Druids got away with a 1 goal win.
In the second game Sonics belted Pirates 6-0.
The second week of comp saw another tough game for Slytherin up against Sonics.
This game went 2-2 at full time, Tim Brown completing his hatrick for the 3-2 OT win.
Mighty Dragons and Phantoms were next to go head to head, running and gunning their way to a 3-3 draw.
Goal by Con Sourlangos in the last minute of regular time set up the draw.
5 minutes of OT could not separate the teams.
The new draw for the season is now on the web, check it out.
One of the more challanging ones I have had to put together with a heap of A graders away playing for Australia in the 2004 world cup, players missing for work and injuries..
Hopefully I catered pretty well for everyones needs.
Due to the extended first season (mens and womens comp) and the loss of two weeks to the worlds we have been constricted timewise.
This means we have a real fast finals series.
Elimination and Qualifying finals will be on Monday 13th December.
Preliminary finals will be on the Thursday night (with B/C grade) 16th of December.
Then the Grand Final will be on the Saturday the 18th of December (All three grades).
After the grand finals we will have a Broomball Xmas party and do the presentations.
Will be much fun !! Especially as it will be compulsory attendance for all players.
You Vill Come and you Vill have Fun !!

Division C - Week 17
Grand Final - Hunters vs Raptors
Raptors would have missed out on qualifying for the finals, had The Unforgiven completed all their duties, but were making the most of their opportunity and even looking comfortably the stronger team in both their knock-out finals.
Hunters rampaged the latter half of the season only to almost lose it in their qualifying final, but make it in the end.
The actual game started with a fair bit of Raptor possesion, mainly due to Hunters inability to clear the ball effectively.
So it gave way for Raptors to have a few shots from long range, and that's exactly what John Flaherty did, absolutely murdering the ball, and leaving the keeper little chance (even from that range).
So Raptors took the early lead.
Hunters then began to relax and had some attacks of their own, but the strange thing about this attack, is they didn't seem to want to shoot it.
Passing was good but they didn't want to take the half chances they created, choosing to see if they could obtain a certain opportunity.
But the Raptors didn't faulter to that extent, making sure that the Hunters would have to earn their goals.
During this time Raptors forced a few turn overs which turned into fast breaks mainly through their speed king Louis Sultana.
Unfortunately for him some good scrambling defense and keeping kept him out, but after his break with 6 minutes to go, the Hunters keeper cleared striaght into the arms of Martin Sultana right in front of goals.
Martin making no mistake and taking the Raptors to a 1-0 lead.
Hunters then realised they would have to take the half chances that they created, and so the shots began to fly.
Ending in a well worked move that saw Gemma Fornal pass to an open Jason Thomas.
He took the shot, and Lauren Goulden on the post stuck the stick out to deflect it past the keeper and make the score 2-1 at Half Time.
The second half started much the same as the first half, but this time John Flaherty massive shot was hit straight into the keepers chest, providing the same wake up reaction for the Hunters as far as holding on to the ball rather than just tryimg to clear it. Now only one gaol down, the Hunters again tried to work for the certain goal, Raptors still not giving them the opening, and slowly the seconds began to tick away.
The Raptors started to play a more defensive game, and took a leaf from the Hunters book, making several attempts to just clear the ball (a lot of the time right in front of goals) which made it seem that the opportunity was coming for the Hunters.
Raptors still holding on somehow.
With about 6 minutes remaining, Hunters again realising that they would have to start taking the half chances.
So the shots started to come again.
This time it was Glen Butler-Flemming doing the damage for the Hunters from deep and wide.
So the score all tied up at 2-2 with a couple of minutes remaining.
But no more cahnces created, both teams electing to run the clock down, and take it into overtime.
2-2 at the end of normal time, and a full 5 minutes of overtime to ensue.
Raptors starting with all out attack, looking for a quick goal.
That's exactly what they got.
Once again Catherine Packer finding that no one wanted to mark her in overtime and after receiving the ball had plenty of time to slot one home (Very similar style to an OT goal she scored earlier in the season).
Then the desperation of the Hunters went into overdrive, but in the end it seemed only to translate into panic.
Failing to crack the Raptors in this period, and in the dying seconds Davin Harvey instead of scoring into the open net, but as the goal was unnecessary for his team's victory, decided to try out for clown college instead as a sort of celebration.
So Raptors winning the C Grade Final after almost not making the finals at all.
As a side point, both teams had an official in their teams earlier in the season.
But once they decided not to play anymore the teams started winning and made their way to the final!!!!!

Division A - Week 25 - Finals
Grand Final: Druids vs Slytherin
By Gemma Fornal
From the opening face-off both teams came out hard but it took less than four minutes for the Druids to open the scoring. A passing error by Slytherin's defence gave the Druids possession. Saxon Hooper ran the ball up and hit it right into the middle, a perfect pass for Tracey Ivin in front of goals who struck it nicely on the volley, and straight into the back of the net.
Less than five minutes later the Druids struck again. Another defensive error by Slytherin gave the Druids' Belinda Fowler the ball. The Druids were already dropping into defence in preparation for a Slytherin attack but Fowler saw Troy Carroll out wide and passed. Carroll's shot was too quick for the Slytherin keeper and the Druids were up 2-0 with still more than 11 minutes left in the first half.
Soon enough, Slytherin fought back. Craig Horsley made a speedy run down the wall and crossed the centre. Unfortunately the ball was too quick for Hansen and no shot was made.
Both teams had stepped up to the challenge of the A-grade Grand Final with speed, excellent ball skills and power shots. The Druids' Tim Ollerton had a cracking one-armed backhand shot at an open goal but missed by mere centimetres.
With four minutes left in the first half, Slytherin made a number of attempts to get on the scoreboard but no shots were strong enough to be a threat to the Druid goalkeeper. As the buzzer sounded, the score was still 2-0 to the Druids.
Slytherin carried their momentum into the second half with an excellent run by Jo Mitchell followed by an attempt at goal by Dane Hansen. The Druids' defence was too good. Even when Hansen snatched the ball on the red line and looked certain to score, the Druids rallied back and the ball didn't even cross into their defensive zone.
The Druids' defence seemed impenetrable as Mitchell ran the ball right around the back of the net and hooked it back to Hansen. A Slytherin breakthrough came with 7 minutes, 45 left on the clock when Hansen's shot from just inside the Druids' defensive third was too quick for the Druids keeper.
With Slytherin still on the attack, Mitchell passed to Hansen whose shot hit nothing but the air. Hooper got the ball and took it to the other end of the ice where his resulting shot was denied.
Great teamwork between Saxon Hooper and Tim Ollerton saw the Druids looking dangerous again. Their teammate Steve Larter ran the ball up the wing but could not get a cross in to one of the Druids' strong shooters.
A desperate attempt to equalise by Slytherin's Ryan Findlayson with less than 40 seconds to go slid just wide of the goal. From that point on, the Druids' played defensively and held onto their lead until the game was over. Druids were the A-grade champions for the first time, beating Slytherin 2-1.

Division B - Week 25 - Finals
Grand Final: Phoenix vs Team IceBucket
Team Ice Bucket came into the game looking to show off their fire-power. It took less than 30 seconds after the opening face-off for Liam Golding to score from an assist by Lisa Price. The goal seemed to take Pheonix, as well as the crowd, by surprise.
Soon enough, Pheonix woke up and attacking exchanges between the teams looked threatening. Pheonix had a number of runs with the ball but couldn't get a shot in. Whilst Team Ice Bucket's shooting was a little stronger, Pheonix's goal keeper Stephen Clarke was looking to prevent a repeat of the first 30 seconds, saving lots of dangerous shots under pressure. There was no change to the score before the end of the first half.
Both teams improved in the second half. Excellent teamwork between Team Ice Bucket's Bryan Macklin and Chris Desmond went unrewarded with Stephen Clarke still having a blinder in goals.
Pheonix's Ben Robson and Andrew Chapman had a good attacking runs but were shut down by Team Ice Bucket's defence.
After being offside, Team Ice Bucket fought back and a strong shot from Macklin hit the post. With 10 and a half minutes to go, a combination of skill and luck by Desmond resulted in a run from the red line to right in front of goals. Under pressure from Pheonix, however, he could not take a shot.
With three minutes 17 left on the clock, Macklin strived to seal a victory but his power shot could not get past Clarke. Both teams picked up pace in the last minute but Team Ice Bucket managed to hold out until the buzzer sounded. 1-0 was the final score.

Division C - Week 16
Preliminary Final - Titans vs Raptors
Titans after missing out on the short cut to the final were looking to take their spot this week, but were hampered by the lack of top scorer Carl Mella and last years D Grade finals star Greg Dezman.
Raptors however, were fielding the same 8 strong side they have for the last couple of weeks.
This consistancy is starting to show by the good communication and structure the side is showing.
Raptors clearly the stronger side in the first half, every player who had a shot hit atleast one post in the half (John Flaherty hitting both posts with one shot), this meant the keeper wasn't really needed!!!!
At the other end the Titans attack was lead by Mark Rulewski, Chris Dezman, and in particular Lisa Price.
They had the ball up there a number of times, but with a solid wall of raptor defense, nothing seem to get through to the keeper.
This left the question, could anyone actually score??
Louis Sultana for the Raptors found a whole load of speed to create several one on one chances with the keeper.
Twice denied, the third time proved to be a charm, Louis giving the Raptors the lead at half time.
The second half was more even in the possesion and territory stakes, Titans last week scored two on goals to hand the oppossition the match, this week were making the Raptors work extremely hard to hold on to their lead.
On several occasions it looked like they would grab the equaliser, Chris Dezman putting in a couple of good shots, that went just wide.
As the clock ticked down the equaliser still didn't come, and to put the nail in the coffin, Louis Sultana used his new found speed again to grab his second goal of the night and take Raptors into the Final.
Titans doing fantastic this season considering they rarely put the same team on the ice two weeks running, and played a girl down in quite a few matches, unfortunately will not claim the C grade Title.
29-JUL-2004
Division C - Week 16
Qualifying Final - Titans vs Hunters
Titans starting slow due to a lack in numbers (for about 5 minutes) but still able to create a few of their patented fast breaks.
Meanwhile Hunters playing a possesive game once they moved into the attacking half.
The techniques made for a very even but interesting contest.
Boith teams creating a few chances, but with both defenses being amazingly enerjetic, the final shot was rushed on each occasion, and hence stayed out.
Halftime saw it still at 0-0 and maybe some overtime was looming.
The second half started with a lot of attacking possesion for the Hunters.
Still the Titans able to hold them out.
But the pressure started to show as the defense started to back away from shooters and crosses, eventually costing them as a cross by Lauren Goulden was deflected in by a defender to put the Hunters on the board (The defender very upset, chucking the stick and copping the penalty).
Once the Titans were back to full strength they lifted their tempo in search for the equalizer, but it proved difficult with the Hunters realizing they just needed to hold on.
But after some pressure, Hunters goal keeper decided to place a hand on the ball and bring it round to his other side where Mark Rulewski was there for the Titans and poked it in for the leveler.
So overtime it was to be.
The five minute minute non-sudden death period didn't see much action, both sides unsure how to handle it.
But of significance, late in the period, a Titan defender was penalised for a crease violation.
So the Titans started sudden-death a player down.
Once again able to hold out and both teams doing fantastic in attack and defense to make it interesting, until a shot by Hunters new commer Andrea Deighton was deflected by a Titans defender straight between the last Titans defender and into the goal, to give Titans their third goal of the match, but unfortunately losing 2-1 in SDOT.
Elimination Final - Polar Bears vs Raptors
Polar Bears again with only one girl were always going to struggle.
Raptors after some early mistakes started to build momentum, and the result was 2 quick goals to Davin Harvey.
Polar Bears having to rely on their quick breaks for their scoring opportunities, and late in the half, a couple of quick passes down the wing gave Eric Fry a one on one oppotunity on the Raptors keeper, and was able to finish the job.
So 2-1 Raptors at halftime.
Polar Bears still out numbered were giving it all they had, and almost came up with an equalizer on severall occasions.
About 10 minutes into the half, Martin Sultana broke the Polar Bears spirit claiming the Raptors third for the night and ensuring their season stayed alive.
3-1 Raptors.
22-JUL-2004
Division C - Week 15
The Finals Are Here
This week was the last round of competition for the C division at Penrith.
Robots finished the season strongly defeating Polar Bears 3-1.
Titans got past Raptors 2-1 with a buzzer beater.
Then Hunters ended the Unforgiven finals chances with a 3-0 win.
So next week we have finals.
Elimination Final: 3rd Raptors vs 4th Polar Bears
Qualifying Final: 1st Titans vs 2nd Hunters
On an interesting note, If unforgiven had completed all their duty points they would have been equal with Raptors and Polar Bears and would have had a chance of going through to the finals.
Same for Robots who did virtually no duty and had 2 forfeits.
Shows the importance of the free duty points, not to mention it just generally helps the organisers out, makes for a much smoother night.
19-JUL-2004
Division A - Week 24 - Finals
Preliminary Final: Druids vs Phantoms
Phantoms here after dropping the qualifying final to Slytherin in overtime last week, Druids booking their spot with a come from behind win over a gallant Ninjas 2-1.
Regular season honours were even between the teams, with Druids taking the first game 2-1 and Phantoms reversing the result and the score 2-1 to them in the second encounter.
The first half began as expected with Druids building their offence and squeezing the Phantoms to minimise their potent fast break attack.
Phantoms probing and looking to open up on the fast break.
The first goal was somewhat of a surprise for scorer Bryan Macklin, Druids deep in offence and on a powerplay turned the ball over for Bryan to ice away and kill time.
The Druids keeper ambled out to pick up the lose ball and went to cross it over to the only other player in the defensive half.
The resultant miss hit saw the ball dribble slowly and from nearly an impossible angle into the open net.
So Phantoms against the run of play up 1 early in the half.
Druids kept at their game plan, using tight marking in the offensive end to pin the Phantoms down.
Towards the end of the first half the pressure paid off when they isolated the Phantoms keeper and a turn over resulted in Saxon Hooper poking the ball across the goals where Tim Ollerton was on hand to out it into the open net with a diving poke shot.
1 all at half time.
Phantoms came out firing in the second half and started to break down the offensive forechecking pressure applied by Druids and controlled good portions of the opening stanza.
However they were unable to convert while there.
With six minutes to go Saxon Hooper put Druids in front with a hard shot.
Phantoms heads dropped and James Kristof did his best to fire them up.
With three minutes to go Saxon provided the nail with a break away goal.
After that Druids maintained possession and ran out the clock holding on for the 3-1 win.
Druids now take on Slytherin in the grand final next week.
Is Druids second consectutive final losing to Sonics last year and will be Slytherin's first in their 6 season history.
Slytherin hold the edge in the round games this year defeating Druids twice.
So get down and check out the final at 7.55pm on Monday 26th July, should be a cracker.

Division B - Week 24 - Finals
Preliminary Final: Polar Bears vs Team IceBucket
B grade preliminary final for Polar Bears and Team IceBucket, a win had the prize of the second spot in the grand final vs Phoenix next week, a loss and the only spot for the grand final would be as a spectator.
Polar Bears had defeated Team IceBucket twice this year but have been on a bit of a form slide since bottom placed Ice Wizards broke their 8 game winning streak.
So Polar Bears needed a form reversal and a win to get past Team IceBucket for a spot and a rematach vs Phoenix.
Team IceBucket needed to reverse the two earlier results for their crack at Phoenix.
Team IceBucket started on fire putting two goals on before Polar Bears knew what was happening.
Polar Bears didnt finish minor premiers for no reason and turned around the possession, territory and shots on goal.
They came close to scoring several times denied by some freakish keeping by one Mark Ruleski.
Despite the pressure and domination, Team IceBucket held strong and maintained the 2-0 lead until half time.
After the half Polar Bears continued the pressure the game pretty much entirely played in the Team IceBucket end, Buckets happy to counter when they could and then flood back to defence.
Despite a huge penalty minutes racked up by Team IceBucket Polar Bears couldnt convert and Team IceBucket managed 1 more for the 3-0 win.
Bryan Macklin, Liam Golding and Chris Dezmen shared the goals.
Polar Bears eliminated, Team IceBucket into the grand final in their first season of B grade after winning C grade last year.
So next week we have the two run and gun sides Team IceBucket vs Phoenix, whose fast break offence will prevail.
Game at 8.35 directly after the A division final.
15-JUL-2004
Division C - Week 14
Titans vs Polar Bears
Polar Bears as per usual were running late, so the Titans had the momentum to start this game.
It resulted in an early goal to Greg Dezman, setup by his brother Chris.
So a big scoreline seemed like it could be on offer, but it was not to be.
The early goal being the only goal of the match and thus giving the Titans a 1-0 victory.
Raptors vs The Unforgiven
The Unforgiven must have come down with a case of cootees, because there wasn't a girl insight for there team.
This made it very easy for the ten strong Raptors outfit to overwhelm the depleated side.
But it was the unlikely candidate Karen Daffy who opened the scoring for the Raptors, putting too much heat on one for the keeper to handle (and apparently everyone at her work will know about it).
Then Louis Sultana took the reigns, scoring the next three to claim a hat-trick.
Martin Sultana and Kevin Chen chipped in with a goal each, and the icing was applied by the starter in Karen Daffy, once again hitting more solid than the keeper was good for (and trust me, there will be many sore ears tomorrow at her place of employment).
This capped off the 7-0 victory for the Raptors.
Robots vs POWs
Robots starting to put a consistent team on the field left the still inexperienced POWs with very little chance.
But this was in particularly the Paul Hancock show.
Paul claiming four goals, including a nice hand down to himself for the two handed tee off goal, and thus taking the Robots to 5-0 victory, Aron Calfas getting the other goal.
12-JUL-2004
Division A - Week 23 - Finals
Elimination Final: Druids vs Ninjas
Tough game for both teams, a loss means elimination a win to move onto the preliminary final and a chance at Grand Final glory.
Ninjas started on fire, dominating possession and shots on goal.
Then disaster as skipper Pete Yabsley went down with a hamstring tear.
This should have gutted the Ninjas but they decided they didnt need him and kept up the intsity still dominating possession and territory.
The pressure finally told off with Paul Naton getting a cross to Ben Eagleston who beat the keeper with a shot into the roof.
Ben's first A division goal at Penrith in his 80th game.
Ninjas maintained the lead until half time, 1-0.
Good discipline and tight marking saw Ninjas maintain that lead until 7 minutes to go when Tim Ollerton jumped on a loose ball and smacked it home.
1 all setting up a tense finish.
With only three minutes to go another loose ball in defence bobbled out in front of the goals for Saxon Hooper to hit home.
The 2-1 lead enough to eliminate a spirited Ninjas team and put Druids into the preliminary final.
Qualifying Final: Slytherin vs Phantoms
Slytherin got hammered last time these teams met, however finals are a very different animal.
This time their discipline was good and they maintained good defensive formation to nullify the fast Phantom attackers.
A full game not enough for either team to score a goal.
0-0 and into overtime.
OT is exciting at the best of times, however with a bit of a crowd and a chance at a grand final spot, this was awesome.
James Kristof turned the advantage Phantoms way with the first goal.
However Slytherin dont go away that easily and on the back of a phantom penalty and man advantage they hit back soon after through a nicely set up goal to Dane Hansen.
1-1 all with a minute or so to go.
Phantoms back to full strength and a bout of sudden death OT looked likely until James Kristof made a steal and break with only Beth Hines to beat.
Beth was up to the challenge and blocked the shot, from the regather Dane Hansen sent a ball to Craig Horsley who connected sweetly and put Slytherin in fron 2-1 with only 11 seconds to go.
Not enough time for Phantoms to come back and Slytherin move into their first Grand Final.
Phantoms now take on Druids in the Preliminary final next week in a battle of the green machines.
12-JUL-2004
Division B - Week 23 - Finals
Elimination Final: Guinness vs Team IceBucket
This game started a million miles an hour with both teams screaming around the ice, counter attacks and desparate defence.
However the lack of subs soon took it toll and it ground to a halt.
As you can guess there was lots of early chances but as the speed wore out of the game so did the chances.
With a minute to go this game look desitined for overtime.
However speed merchant Liam Golding made a break and with 50 seconds score for Team Ice Bucket.
1-0 enough to take the win and move into the preliminary final vs Polar Bears next week.
Qualifying Final: Polar Bears vs Phoenix
Phoenix as usual finishing strongly accounted for fading Polar Bears in the last week of competition 2-0.
That win took Phoenix from 4th to 2nd and earned them the rematch and a chance of progressing straight into the grand final.
So Phoenix full of confidence and at full strength up against Polar Bears with half their team sick and missing star goalie Bob Irwin.
Phoenix with all the advantages pushed them home pressing Polar Bears the whole way and in the end doing it comfortably.
Goals to Andrew Chapman, Ben Robson and Damien Colyer sealing it for Phoenix.
3-0 Phoenix into the Grand Final.
Polar Bears still have a chance to avenge the loss when they take on Team IceBucket next week in the preliminary final, a win there setting up a Polar Bear vs Phoenix Grand Final.
05-JUL-2004
Division A - Week 22
Druids vs Pirates
Last round of a very tight A division season.
Pirates playing for pride a win meaning they avoid the wooden spoon, however if they had won their last couple games they would have been playing for a spot in the finals, thats how tight the A division competition was.
Druids needed at least an OT win to secure a spot in the finals and things started badly for them.
Sam Boer proving to be their catalyst early on bagging 2 goals and messing up the "Druids into the Finals" script.
But Druids fought back Tim Ollerton slotting a goal late in the half making the scoreline 2-1 at half time.
Second half was all Druids controlling possession deep in the Pirates defensive end and eventually the pressure told with goals to Saxon Hooper and another to Tim Ollerton giving Druids a 3-2 lead.
Pirates rallied and put on a few shots of their own but the Druids defence held for the win and secured a spot in the finals.
3-2 Druids over Pirates.
Sonics vs Phantoms
Every game this night had bearings on the finals.
Sonics needed an outright win and with Druids winning now also had to rely on Ninjas losing outright vs Slytehrin in the next game.
Phantoms already qualified for the finals but needed a win to ensure a top two finish and the second chance in the finals series.
From the start Sonics looked to control this game.
First goal coming from a well worked move starting with Pauline Perren across to Kerry Baxter who looped in the pass to find Tim Brown on the goal crease to tip over the keeper.
Phantoms never give up though equalising through James Kristof, who on the run, with his lefthand plucked a ball high out of the air dragging it down to his right and hitting it one handed before the ball hit the ice, beating the keeper.
However with the season on the line Tim Brown again extended the Sonics lead to 2-1.
Again James Kristof evened it up, 2-2 at full time.
James Kristof proved to be the hero scoring the OT winner and completing his hat trick and securing a top 2 finish for Phantoms and relegating Sonics to 5th.
Ninjas vs Slytherin
Now Sonics were gone this game no longer decided the finalists but would decide finals positions.
A win for Ninjas would give them a top 2 spot, a win for Slytherin would give them the minor premiership.
So still plenty at stake for both teams right into the last game of the season.
Ninjas opened the scoring through a standard Peter Yabsley goal, taking the ball from the side, floating across the goal mouth and hitting hard past the keeper (see various broomball videos for an example).
1-0 Ninjas.
Slytherin hit straight back though when Jo Mitchel combined with Ryan Findlayson(goal) for the equaliser.
Both teams had chances to grab the win but none were converted the game ending 1-1.
Sudden death OT couldnt break the dead lock.
So next week we have:-
Qualifying Final: 1st - Phantoms vs 2nd - Slytherin
Elimination Final: 3rd - Druids vs 4th - Ninjas
05-JUL-2004
Division B - Week 22
Girl Germs vs Golden Falcons
Both teams were just short of making the finals but still played with a good intensity.
Golden Falcons on the board first through Mark Slater.
Girl Germs tied it with Linda Bell scambling one in from the crease.
Right on full time Karen Thompson ballooned a shot from half way.
It landed awkwardly on the 1/2 volley at the Falcons keepers feet, spun through his legs and headed to the open net.
However Kevin recovered in time and knocked it away as time expired.
Into OT.
Linda Bell finished it in style with a nice hand thingy goal completing her double.
2-1 OT win for Girl Germs to finish the season.
Both teams finished just outside the top 4, probably needing an additional win each to have pushed for the finals.. another very tight competition.
Polar Bears vs Phoenix
Phoenix finished the season strongly to secure their top 4 spot, but a win here would give them a chance at 2nd and a double chance in the finals.
After being the stand out team all season, Polar Bears have faulted a little of late dropping a couple games including a loss to last placed Ice Wizards and looking a bit shaky for the finals.
Without the pressure of having to win Phoenix did all the attacking and were on the baord early through Andrew Chapman.
Their second goal followed soon after, when Andrew Chapman sent in a hard cross.
The Polar Bear defender had to play at it and the defelection went in.
The two Andrew Chapman goals enough for Phoenix to get over Polar Bears.
Polar Bears still did enough to secure the Minor Premiership and still go into the finals with enough form to claim their 3rd B division title.
Team IceBucket vs Ice Wizards
The ultimate game of the season between Team IceBucket and Ice Wizards had little bearing on the finals, however TIB needed to win to have a chance at a top two finish.
Ice Wizards started strongly maintaining large portions of possession but couldnt convert.
On the other hand Team IceBucket always looked dangerous on the counter with speed players Bryan Macklin and Liam Golding looking to break at any opportunity.
This strike power proved too much for Ice Wizards as Team IceBucket piled on 4 goals.
Two to Liam Golding, 1 to Bryan Macklin and an exceptional bit of individual play from Lisa Price, who beat a couple players and then beat the keeper for a goal of her own.
Ice Wizards only goal came for young James Dymond who took a Lauren Goulden pass on the blue line and launched a heat seeker into the inside side netting.
4-1 Team Ice Bucket.
The results means Team IceBucket, Guinness and Slytherin are all tied for 2nd, so to break the tie we use the IFBA rules.

Division A - Week 21
Mighty Dragons vs Slytherin
Final game for Mighty Dragons and a must win game if they were going to see any finals action.
Realising this they bought in the big guns Harry Sotiropoulos playing only his 4th game of the season.
Slytherin undermanned with Craig Horsley missing along with Steve Timmins away OS on holidays.
Didnt seem to effect Slytherin too much as Dane Hansen caught fire and streaked all over the ice racking up 2 goals and setting up another for Jo Mitchell taking Slytherin to a 3-0 lead at half time.
Scoreline sparked the Mighty Dragons into action and they should have had three goals themselves five minutes into the second half, just failing to convert.
Eventually they put a couple on through Terry Giovas and Liam Golding scoring his maiden A division goal setting up tight finish.
However Dane had just enough fuel to catch the keeper out of his crease, make the steal and get the ball to Ryan Findlayson to fire home.
4-2 win for Slytherin ending Mighty Dragons season.
Druids vs Phantoms
Druids needed a win to secure a finals birth, but it wasnt goiong to be easy, Phantoms coming off a 4-1 thrashing of Slytherin, now full of confidence.
Tough fast game at first, neither team gaining the ascendency.
Saxon Hooper opened the scoring for Druids a lead they took to half time.
Phantoms will never go away though, with their fast attackers continually threatening to break.
Bryan Macklin did the damage this time, beating three defenders with good skill but then used a bit a luck as his miss hit shot dribbled through the keepers legs.
1-1 Full time.
In OT Saxon Hooper missed two opens nets for Druids and on the second miss Bryan again capitalised, breaking free and setting up a 2-1 in attack for Lisa Price to poke home the OT winner for Phantoms.
Sonics vs Pirates
Both teams needed to win to keep their finals hopes alive, a loss meaning an early exit from the tournament.
Very dour match, good solid defence limiting scoring chances.
A single goal in the first half to Tim Brown secured the win for Sonics.
Sonics now need to win their last game and hope Druids or Ninjas lose next week.
28-JUN-2004
Division B - Week 21
Girl Germs vs Ice Wizards
Very workwoman like effort from Girl Germs as they got home against the Ice Wizards by 2 goals to nil.
Goals to Kerry Baxter and Tracy Ivin sealing the win.
The Penguins vs Phoenix
Big game for both teams, the last for The Penguins needing a win to slot into the top 4.
Phoenix needed an OT win to secure a finals spot.
So both teams were cautious.
20 minutes went by and the score was 0-0.
40 minutes went by and the score was still 0-0.
4 minutes 56 seconds passed and still the score was 0-0.
Just when it looked like the game was going to finish 0-0, Damien Colyer broke the deadlock for an OT win for Phoenix with just 3 seconds to go.
The win secures a finals berth for Phoenix (unless the forfeit next week) and the loss ended The Penguins chances of finals glory in their debut season.
Guinness vs Polar Bears
Polar Bears missing star keeper Bob Irwin showed a little crack in their impressive armour.
Guinness exploiting their defence and putting on two goals through Dane Hansen and Jo Mitchell.
2-0 win for Guinness into second place but will have to wait for results next week to see if they stay there.
26-JUN-2004
Division C - Week 11
Raptors vs Hunters
Hunters possibly for the first time this season fielding a full side, left Raptors with very little chance to come away with this game.
A Lot of power hitting by Hunters and one piece of finesse by Gemma Fornal, saw Hunters dominate their way to a 4-1 victory.
Davin Harvey claiming the Raptors sole goal with some nice solo work.
POWs vs Polar Bears
The new kids on the block still looking for their first favourable result of the season, once again were in with a chance against an undermanned (or underwomanned) Polar Bears outfit.
Sandor Leib once again having an outstanding game in goals to keep POWs in the game at halftime 0-0.
As the clock ticked down, the tension grew and the POWs neared their best result of the season.
With 3 mins to go, the excitement level hit the roof when Aamir Vatandoust scored POWs first goal, and took the POWs to their first victory.
POWs winning 1-0.
The Unforgiven vs Titans
Definately not the most exciting game of the night.
Neither team creating an excess of chances, and even when they did create chances the shots were Beckham-like wayward!!
Even in overtime no-one could break the deadlock, and hence a 0-0 draw was the result.
21-JUN-2004
Division A - Week 20
Sonics vs Ninjas
With the table so tight and no positions except perhaps Slytherins decided, both teams had plenty to play for.
Sonics have been building momentum and looked very dangerous in the last few games.
If Ninjas could win outright it would secure them a finals berth.
Tight first half with neither team able to convert, nil all at half time.
In the second half Sonics began to get on top, breaking the Ninja defence but not coming up with the goals.
Instead Ninjas were on the board first when Peter Yabsley centred a hard cross/shot which was partialy saved by the keeper.
Linda Bell was on hand to bat in the loose ball from the goal mouth for a 1 nil Ninja lead.
Sonics battled on creating more chances finally Kerry Baxter setting up Jay Schmidt with a good hard cross to the post for Jay to trap and slot home.
1-1 full time and into OT.
Peter Yabsley finished off the OT win with a hard shot.
2-1 Ninjas in OT and into 1st spot on the ladder but have played an extra game compared to the teams ranked 2nd to 4th.
Pirates vs Mighty Dragons
With both teams sitting just outside the top four it was a must win game for both teams.
Mighty Dragons welcomed back John Magnisalis and he was into the thick of it straight away making several breaks and creating chances for himself or partner in crime Con Sourlangos.
Pirates hung in there, even if on the back foot most the half for a nil nil scoreline at the half.
Con Sourlangos got Mighty Dragons on the board with a bit of luck as a shot deflected off Sam Boer and rolled slowly past the wrong footed keeper.
The next two goals, one for each team were both extraordinary.
For Pirates Kosta Sourlas ran to the keeper, faked the shot and laid a ball off for Sam Boer to put into the open net, look almost professional.
The second goal for Dragons, the game winner was scored by Lina Nasr.
To the naked eye it looked like an extremely well executed goal with Liam Golding firing in a hard cross and Lina poking her stick into the path just in front of the keeper and deflecting it in.
Further investigation turned up that Lina was in fact sliding into the crease to poke the keeper with her stick and the ball hit it and defelected in.
Which ever story you believe it was the game winner for Mighty Dragons.
Mighty Dragons have one game to go and need to win to make it to the finals.
Pirates have two and now need to win both of those to have a chance.
Slytherin vs Phantoms
Top of the table Slytherin up against Phantoms coming off the bye.
Slytherin playing a cautios possession styled game and Phantoms as usual using their quick forwards to counter with odd man rushes.
In this game the counter methods worked with Phantoms slamming in 5 goals, a hat trick to James Kristof and a double for Luke Simmonds.
Every Phantom player got on the score sheet with at least an assist.
For Slyhterin a lone goal to Steve Timmins the only joy.
Phantoms 5 defeated Slytherin 1.
With only two rounds to go all teams can still make or miss the finals.. exciting stuff !!
21-JUN-2004
Division B - Week 20
Guinness vs The Penguins
The Penguins in 5th up against Guinnes in third.
Most of the play in Guinness's attacking half as they pressured the Penguins.
Goals to new recruits Davin Harvey and Kevin Chen for Guinness.
At 2 nil down The Penguins chances were further dented as a spiteful Bec Cashel shot falconed into the Penguins keepers face cage cutting his chin.
The messy injury leaving The Penguins without their keeper and a long way back.
No road back for Penguins with the score remaining 2-0.
Team IceBuckets vs Golden Falcons
As per usual Team IceBucket were struggling for numbers after the mid season departure of a number of their players.
Eventually they got some personnel and took it to the Falcons for awhile.
Bryan and Liam pushing forward for Team IceBucket creating the odd chance.
Falcons got on the board first midway through the first half through Mark Slater and carried that lead to half time.
Mark Slater doubled the lead early in the second.
Team IceBucket picked up the pace and from a Bryan Macklin back handed assist Liam Golding halved the lead.
Thats where the scoring stopped.
An important win for the Golden Falcons.
Girl Germs vs Polar Bears
Was always going to be a struggle for Girl Germs without play makers Tracy Ivin (exams) and Kerry Baxter (sick) vs top of the table Polar Bears.
First half goals to David Buckley and Mark Kim made it look like it would be a long last game of the night for Girl Germs.
However they knuckled down in the second half and fought it out well.
Final score 2-0 to Polar Bears.
14-JUN-2004
Division A - Week 19
Sonics vs Mighty Dragons
Only 2 goals from the three A grade games tonight.
First up Mighty Dragons vs Sonics.
Really defence and goal keepers were the biggest factor in this game, repeatedly denying both teams.
Sonics with 20 seconds to go got on the board through Tim Brown.
The one late goal providing Sonics with a much needed win.
Pirates vs Slytherin
This game was played in the mid field, with very few good chances for either team.
Slytherin had a couple of late chances but couldnt convert.
0 - 0 at fulltime and into OT.
With less than 10 seconds on the clock Sam Boer pounced on a turn over and broke free.
At the blue line he glanced at the clock and saw 3.3 seconds so fired.
It was saved and the game ended in a nil all draw after the full forty-five minutes.
Druids vs Ninjas
Ninjas started on fire all over the Druids unlucky not to convert in the first minute of the match.
They continued to apply all the pressure and it looked likely they would eventually over power the Druids.
Druids hanging on for a 0-0 scoreline at halftime.
Game evened up a bit in the second half with Druids able to apply some of their own offensive pressure.
Their best chance with 10 to go when a miss pass by the keeper found Saxon Hooper in front of the open Ninja net.
From his knees after diving to pick up the miss pass the shot went wide, definitely the early stages of a case of Samitus.
From that miss the rebound came straight back to him.. still on his knees and on his back hand this time up over the goals..
Acute Samitus had set in.
With 4 minutes to go Saxon again had chances.. a shot saved by the keeper.
The rebound collected by Druids and another shot saved.
This rebound was collected by Tim Ollerton who chopped it over the keeper for a 1-0 lead to Druids.
With 6 seconds to go Ninja Peter Yabsley took the ball deep into the corner and fired a hard cross which sat on the crease with two Ninjas in close proximity, but before they could scramble it in, the Druid keeper swiped the ball away and secured the Druid win.
1-0 for Druids over Ninjas.
14-JUN-2004
Division B - Week 19
Phoenix vs Golden Falcons
Plenty of excitement in this game.
Golden Falcons leaping out to a 2-0 lead early with goals to Beth Hines and Mark Slater prompting the comment 'Damn we really needed to win this one' from Phoenix captain Andrew Chapman while on the bench having a breather.
Lucky for Phoenix the rest of the team knew the win was required and they started their fight back.
Three goals, the last with 2 minutes to go securing the unlikely comeback and the 3-2 win.
Goals for Phoenix by Ben Robson, Damien Colyer and Steve Clark.
Ice Wizards vs Guinness
More excitement in the second B grade game.
Guinness looked to be cruising when they lept to a 2 goal to nil lead with goals to Dane Hansen and Bec Cashel.
But Ice Wizards have found something extra in the last couple games, which has been missing so far this season and they managed to pull both goals back with Luke Simmonds and Karl Pryor.
2-2 was the full time score.
A tripping penalty for Gemma Fornal meant Ice Wizards had to play OT with 3 players for 2 minutes of the last 2 minutes 48 seconds.
However Guinness couldnt convert during this time.
Final score 2-2, points shared.
The Penguins vs Team IceBucket
Early goal for Liam Golding putting Team IceBucket in the box seat.
Which is all they needed as they held out the desperate Penguins.
1-0 nil Team IceBucket.
10-JUN-2004
Division C - Week 9
Robots vs Hunters
To say this game was a dour nil all draw, would be a poor description.
It was 45 minutes of shot after shot after shot.
Robots playing the entire match a girl down (and about 2 mins with no girls due to injury) meant that Hunters had space to create many many opportunities, but rarely troubling the keeper with anything on target.
Robots and their naturally aggressive play, meant they weren't out gunned, but some superb keeping (mainly by Dean Thomas) kept them scoreless.
In overtime, Grace Dasco was the saviour for the Robots making many saves right on the keepers crease.
So 0-0 was the final score.
POWs vs Titans
POWs yet to earn any more than the consolation point in their games thus far up against a Titans side that have been solid all season.
POWs relying mainly on fast breaks as their form of attack, couldn't get any of their few shots online (except one that was kicked in).
But up the other end their defence was put into overdrive, and they were up to the task.
They crowded the attack and the goals, and the balls that did get through (whilst it was a small percentage of shots taken, it still was a large amount) were superbly saved by the keeper (Sandor Lieb having yet another brilliant game).
0-0 at halftime left people wondering if a goal could be scored at all this night.
73 mins and 30 seconds into the matches, the drought was broken.
Titans Carl Mella getting enough on his shot to make sure that solid contact by the keepers stick wasn't enough to keep it out.
But 1-0 was where it stayed, Titans scraping home aga |
