Druids Do It Again
Grand Final - Werrington County Sonics vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Gemma Butler-Fleming
The Sonics and Druids met in the grand final for the second time in as many seasons and as expected, the game was an exciting mix of the Sonics’ young speedsters and quick team play, with the Druids’ experience converting into the disciplined execution of set-plays and team structure.
With nothing to lose, the Sonics came out firing at the opening face off, almost scoring in the first 30 seconds with a Druids defensive error leaving the Sonics’ Ben Robson open in front of goals.
The ball went into the goal but was disallowed, the referee ruling that the ball came off Robson’s arm.
Nonetheless it was a very good start for the Sonics who had few good chances early.
After the first five minutes of Sonics domination, the Druids fought back. Druids’ captain Saxon Hooper passed to Katie Laybutt who in turn passed to Damien Colyer.
The resulting shot went just wide of the goal.
The Druids maintained most of the possession for the next few minutes but were still unable to capitalise.
With just over 17 minutes left in the first half, the Druids were caught off-side.
The Sonics won the ball and Robson put a brilliant ball through to Sonics’ captain Tim Brown.
Brown then passed to Scott Murray, but he could not connect with the ball.
Only a minute later, another beautiful Sonics pass from Ceez Kim to Robson caught the Druids off-guard.
The Druids scrambled back in defence, preventing Robson from crossing the ball to Murray who was unmarked on the other side of the ice.
Hooper then turned the game around by running through the Sonics’ defence and demonstrating excellent stick skills.
Hooper’s long shot was turned into a goal by Damien Colyer who was lurking on the post.
This goal didn’t seem to affect the Sonics who responded with some attacking plays of their own.
Excellent teamwork between Kim, Brown and James Ray turned strong possession into an excellent shot from Brown, only to be blocked by the Druids’ keeper.
Again, Ray and Brown worked together, “one-twoing” up the ice until the ball was right up in the goal mouth.
Kerry Baxter was there to finish it off, but the keeper held on to stop her scoring.
The Sonics set up a strong defensive structure with Kim holding on to the ball well.
A good run from the Druids’ Colyer came to an end with good pressure from Baxter.
The last ten minutes of the first half saw lots of changes in possession but few good shots.
Both teams had stepped up their defence and seemed to be concentrating on making it to the half time break without conceding another goal.
The Druids came off for the break ahead 1-0.
In the second half, the Druids endeavoured to dominate.
Breaking away from the Sonics’ defence, Hooper again showed some juggling skills by balancing the ball at the end of his broom then flicking the ball over each defender and catching it again once he had passed them.
Hooper then lost control of the ball behind him as he attempted to bring the ball back to the ice for the shot.
The loose ball was picked up Colyer, who returned the ball to Hooper behind the Sonics’ defensive line.
Hooper hammered the ball past the keeper and into the goal to put Druids up 2-0.
With confidence high, the Druids picked up in attack and were dominant for the entire third quarter.
The Sonics seemed unable to get the ball into their attacking third.
With 10 minutes left in normal time, the Sonics’s Matt Xerri had a strong shot, but just missed the goal.
This seemed to mark a turnaround for the Sonics who were desperately trying to get back into the game.
Right in front of goal, Brown struck the ball perfectly, but the Druids’ Tracy Ivin put her body on the line and blocked the shot.
The Sonics kept their numbers up in attack and another hard shot from Brown was stopped by the Druids’ keeper, stifling one of the Sonics’ best chances to get back into the game.
With less than a minute to go, the Sonics were getting tired and had come to realise that they were out of the game.
Meanwhile the Druids were still trying to score and make their win even more convincing.
The Sonics did hold out in defence, however, preventing the Druids scoring for the rest of the game.
As the buzzer sounded, the Druids had won their fourth A Grade Premiership, a heartbreaking second straight grand final loss for the Sonics.

Huskies Dominate B Grand FInal
Grand Final - Wildebeets vs. Huskies by Ryan Findlayson
Wildebeests somehow managed to hold onto the minor premiership with a terrible second half of the season, losing four games from their last six.
Huskies much like the rest of the top B grade teams had an inconsistent second half of the season, but meant business in the final.
The game started with Huskies controling possesion, and culminating in a Peter Yabsley shot that swerved and snuck by the inside of the far post to give the Huskies the early lead.
Huskies continued to control the ball, with Wildebeests occassionally getting break away chances.
None converted before the half time siren, and so 1-0 scoreline at the break.
The second half was more of the same, with Huskies controlling, then a few rebounds, and a bit of a scramble resulted in Luke Simmonds doubling the Huskies lead.
Wildebeests then started showing a lot more energy, forcing the Huskies keeper to make quite a few good saves, but it was all to no avail.
A few penalties against The Wildebeests, and then an own goal from a high stick sealed the coffin, and gave Huskies a 3-0 win and the B Grade Premiership.

Finally The Unforgiven Win
Grand Final - The Unforgiven vs. Wild Boars by Ryan Findlayson
Unforgiven had played a girl down most games this season, but still managed to finish minor premiers, only losing one game on the road to the final.
They were to be boosted by having a full team for the determining match up.
Meanwhile, Wild Boars were going to be without two of the players (one of their main point scorers in Josh Yabsley).
So Unforgiven were the odds on favourites to take this one.
Unforgiven did control a lot of the possesion in the first half, but the swamping defense of the Boars restricted the amount of shots that the Unforgiven could get away.
Wild Boars relying on breakaways for their attacking chances, but none in the first half to write home about.
So 0-0 at half time, and maybe the Boars could produce an upset with a goal somehow.
It was just a minute into the second half when the deadlock was broken.
Mitch Tuza for The Unforgiven putting in a moderate shot, and Boars defender sticking out a leg to try and block it, but only succeeded in deflecting it into the goals.
So now the hill became a lot steeper for the Wild Boars, and when their main point scorer in Cameron Parkes was penalised for freezing the ball, Wild Boars had to dig in deep to keep themselves in the contest.
They managed to continually deny The Unforgiven, but time was quickly running out.
With 11 seconds remaining, Unforgiven suffered a penalty, but it was too late for the Boars, putting up a valiant effort, but coming up short.
Unforgiven were the dominant team also season, and deserving victors of the C Grade competition.

The top two teams in the final, Terminators vs Ticklers.
Terminators exploiting their pace using Daniel Wong, Tim Brown, Chris Dezman (who didnt play a single round game but showed up for the final) and Bryan Macklin tp break on Ticklers.
Ticklers playing great possession with Peter Yabsley and Tom Ollerton controlling the play expertly.
Terminators scored first and took a 1-0 lead.
Not long later Ticklers thought they had the equaliser only to be denied by the ref calling a hand pass.
1-0 half time.
Terminators bottled up and relied on fast breaks to get into attack, Ticlklers controlled posession but couldnt crack the defence.
As time ran out Ticklers put on more and more pressure and gave away some penatlies.
Down to three players after a boarding by Ben Eagleston earned him 5 minutes in the sin bin.
Ticklers still attacked and nearly socred even with only 3 on.

Grand Final - Silver Snipers vs. Crimson Furies by Saxon Hooper
The womens grand final between the top two teams of the season.
Silver Snipers who played in last years grand final losing 1-0 in OT to Cedrus looking to go one better.
The Furies didnt make the final last season but were in it now.
A tough final with chances for both teams well shut down by the keepers.
The crowd was getting into this one as the play flowed back and forth.
With less than a minute on the clock leading into half time, Emma Cooke made a steal on half way.
Her hard pass in found Courtney Shanks who got it over to Kerry Baxter.
Kerry slid to the left of the keeper and chopped it back accross the goal into the right hand corner.
1-0, 13 seconds to go in the half.
The second half was tight as well, play going end to end.
With not long to go, Furies clammed it up, playing no risk broomball and maintaining posession.
Snipers needing the goal pressed hard and created a few last gasp chances, however none found the back of the net.
Furies holding on for the 1-0 win over Snipers.

A Division - Week 18 - Finals
Sonics Set Up Rematch
Preliminary Final - Werrington Ninjas vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
Ninjas went into this one with good team confidence having beaten Sonics twice and coming off a good win in the elimination final.
Sonics had lost their last two but have been the form team all season and can nver be written off.
First half was a tough slog, both teams employing tight zone defences allowing little space for quality shots.
Hence the score was 0-0 at the break.
The second half saw Ninjas begin to control more posession in attack with Sonics content to break out of their half on counters using their ample speed.
The game ebbed and flowed, fast breaks closed down, shots blocked, neither team giving an inch.
Finally 10 minutes into the half, Matt Xerri found himself behind the defence intercepting a wayward pass.
Getting in on goals he either shot and miss hit it, or most likely cleverly disguised a nice pass to look like a miss hit shot which found Ceez Kim unmarked on the crease.
Ceez swept it in, not only putting Sonics in front but in the process scoring her first goal ever in A grade.
Sonics focussed on defence relying soley on break out for attack.
The tactic worked denying Ninjas.
1-0 win for Sonics putting them into the Grand Final.
Sonics and Glenmore Park Druids have met twice before with a win each.
Should be great final, make sure you are down to see it.

B Division - Week 18 - Finals
Huskies in Heart Breaker over Raptors
Preliminary Final - Huskies vs. Raptors by Saxon Hooper
A traditional grudge match in Penrith, these two clubs always looking for the bragging rights which come with a win.
The game started end to end, both teams looking to get in behind the others defence for a chance on the keeper.
Both keepers denying all chances early.
With 12 to go in the half Davin Harvey found himself with the ball in front of the net with only the keeper to beat.
Davin having found a new finishing calm, repeated his goal of earlier in the week, flicking it neatly past the keeper.
1-0 Raptors. The lead they took to half time.
Raptors were content to play no risk broomball after that.
Always with numbers back Huskies couldnt crack them.
As the clock wound down it looked more and more likely that Raptors would go through.
Then with only one minute on the clock, with everyone back in defence, a long shot from Peter Yabsley some how got through the defence and beat the keeper on the bounce.
The heart break for Raptors just begining 1-1 full time and into OT.
The first 5 minutes came and went with no change to the scoreboard.
0-0 after 5 minutes of 4 on 4 no goalie action.
This exciting final now moving into Sudden Death OT.
It didnt take long for Huskies to sink the Raptors, coming from the dead Nikki Pearce and Tahlia Macdonald combined to set up Luke Simmonds who drove home the winner.
Raptors gutted, Huskies into the grand final vs B grade front runners Wildebeests.

C Division - Finals
The Replacements Dominate Everywhere except the Scoreboard
Preliminary Final - The Replacements vs. Wild Boars by Saxon Hooper
The Replacements started well, controlling possession, territory and the game.
However with all that possession they couldnt convert.
Against the run of play 4 minutes in, Cameron Parkes made a break and dinked a one hander across the keeper to find the back of the net.
1-0 Wild Boars, an unlikely scoreline given The Repacements start.
The Replacements continued to dominate, the ball rarely leaving their half.
When it did they always had plenty of numbers back to diffuse the situation.
Still Wild Baors kept them out for a 1-0 half time lead.
Second half and still Replacements were dominating.
Good passing, good eam play, good positioning, just no finishing touch for the goal.
Amazingly Wild Boars held back the tidal wave and somehow denied Replacements.
1-0 Wild Boars.
Boars into the Grand Final vs The Unforgiven who have dominated this season.
Win or lose The Unforgiven are off to B grade next season, merging with Phoenix.

A Division - Week 18 - Finals
Druids into their 5th Grand Final
Elimination Final - Werrington Ninjas vs. Richmond Ravens by Ryan Findlayson
Traditionally this matchup goes into OT. But with the pressure of elimination, would one team crack, and let the other romp away????
This wasn't the case, and this game would turn out to be an absolute cracker, and no write up could do it justice.
Ninjas started the scoring early in the half after Ninjas show disciplined control.
Ravens struck back shortly after to level the scores.
The scores weren't level for long when Ravens gained a turn over, and gave themselves the lead. Ninjas tightened up the defense, and slowly grew enough confidence to go on the attack again.
This resulting in the second Ninjas goal, and once again the score was level.
Pretty much before you could catch your breath another goal was scored.
Ninjas scoring their third, and taking the lead for the second time.
A few more unconverted oppoertunities for both teams, and then it was half time!!!
The half time talk for both sides must have involved an emphasis on defense, because the opportunities seem to dry up (but not completely in drought) in the second half.
A few half chances here and there for both teams, but nothing really to write home about.
Ravens slowly growing in desperation, as the clock ticked down and they still were trailing 2-3.
When the final moments came to hand, Ravens replacing the keeper with an attacker, giving the Ravens another half opportunity with less than 20 seconds remaining.
This time it was converted, and this game was going into OT!!!
Seriously, I don't know why we even bother playing normal time!!!!
OT proved to be just as exciting as the rest of the game.
An impressive goal from the face off gave the Ninjas the upper hand.
Ninjas followed this up with a lot of possesion, not really taking any shots however, just content to run down the clock.
With just over a minute remaining, a penalty against the Ninjas gave Ravens a prime opportunity to go on the attack.
Some desperate scrambling defense looked like it was going to be of no avail, when a Ravens flick looked like it was going to find the back of the net, but a magic Ninja leg came out of nowhere to some how keep it out.
Ninjas then killed the ball, and were able to hold on for the 4-3 OT victory.
No names were mentioned in this write up, because it wouldn't be fair to isolate anyone for praise.
Everyone from both teams performed outstanding, and it was an amazing game to play in!!!
Qualifying Final - Werrington County Sonics vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Who can pick the results in A grade.. not me.
Sonics thrashed Druids 6-1, next week Druids reversed the result 2-0.
Sonics belted Rangers 8-1, next week Rangers 4-1 over Druids and Ninjas over Sonics.
Results like that all season.
So what was it going to be in the qualifying final ?
Game started well for both teams, posession and patience in offence, feature play of both teams.
Five minutes in and Saxon Hooper flipped a pass high into the slot (wasnt really a pass, but a shot gone wrong) where Steve Clarke took the ball down with his hand and half volleyed the shot low past the keeper.
1-0 Druids.
Five minutes later with 15 to go in the half Druids were in again, Steve Clarke becoming provider for Steve Larter to finish.
2-0 Druids.. still plenty of time.
Some amazing scambling defence from Druids Tim Ollerton denied Sonics off the goal line to keep the score at 2-0.
With only 20 seconds to go Saxon Hooper found himself open in the middle of the rink at the blue line in attack.
A hard shot took a lucky deflection on the defence for a 3-0 lead to Druids at half time.
Druids knew that Sonics would come out hard early and planned to absorb the pressure and maintain their lead.
However knowing whats coming and being able to stop it are two different things and less than 30 seconds into the half Tim Brown exploded into the Druids defensive zone, out paced two defenders and smacked home the goal.
3-1 and 24 odd minutes to go.
From the face off, Tim Brown poured through pressured the defence with pace and was through on goals again.
The shot sqeezed under the keeper and was heading in, but somehow the keeper dropped a leg and froze the ball.
Three minutes later Druids in attack saw the ball passed out to Tim Ollerton who rocketed a earth shaker into the top right corner, keeper had no chance.
Sonics picked it up, pressing hard now to make the difference, but the Druids defence stayed tight and wound down the clock.
With Sonics pressing, Druids got a counter attack, Damo Colyer laying off for Saxon Hooper to drive home.
5-1 with seven minutes in the game.
No further scores, Druids hanging on to move into the Grand Final on Saturday.
Sonics will now take on an in form Werrington Ninjas on Thursday night in the preliminary final.
I suggest you get down to watch this one it should be a beauty, winner to play Druids in the Grand Final.

B Division - Week 18 - Finals
Wildebeests in Saturdays Grand FInal
Qualifying Final - Wildebeets vs. Raptors by Ryan Findlayson
This was a very defensive game.
Both teams worked hard to nullify the other teams strengths in attack.
A stalemate was formed, but Raptors had the majority of possesion, be it in their half or otherwise.
One breakaway chance did come for the Raptors, but a good save by keeper Roy Dasco, kept Wildebeests level at 0-0.
Some half chances to Aron Calfas, and Mark Dasco for the Wildebeests, but nothing of particular note.
It was late in the second half when the deadlock was broken.
It may have been a shot, it may have been a cross, whatever it was, Bob Irwin smashed a ball from out wide, and took a deflection of a Raptors defender, straight into the goal, giving the keeper no hope, and giving the Wildebeests the lead.
Wildebeests then shut up shop for the remainder of the game.
Only one Wildebeest entering the attacking half at any one time.
The game ended as Wildebeests ran the ball from deep in their own half, all the way along the wall, and round behind their attacking goal.
They did turn the ball over, but there wasn't enough time for Raptors to get up the other end.
Wildebeests, who have been at the top of the table the entire season, advancing to the B Grade grand final.
Elimination Final - The Penguins vs. Huskies by Saxon Hooper
Penguins down star forward Daniel Wong, Huskies down three of their girls stared the game short.
Despite this Huskies dominated posession and chances early.
When Huskies girls showed and they had a full strength team they dominated even more.
Despite the possessison and shot advantage The Penguins defence held tight denying everything thrown at them.
0-0 half time.
6 minutes into the 2nd half Huskies finally got on the board through husband wife team mates Gemma setting up Glen Butler-Fleming for the goal.
The single goal was enough for the win.
Huskies thorugh to the preliminary final vs Raptors on Thursday, the winner of that game to take on Wildebeests on Saturday.

C Division - Finals
The Unforgiven Through to the Final
Qualifying Final - The Unforgiven vs. Wild Boars by Tim Boyce
The C Grade Qualifying Final was a face-off between The Unforgiven and Wild Boars.
The head to head in the regular season had these teams at 1 win apiece, with the Wild Boars inflicting the Unforgiven with their only loss this year.
The game was one of the closest this season, and it is only fitting that it was played out in the qualifying final.
The Unforgiven spent a large majority of the first half in attack.
But despite a wealth of possession and field position, The Unforgiven were simply unable to crack the Wild Boars defence.
They couldn't get a single clean shot in front of goals, and were forced to taking long-range shots from tight angles on the rink.
The first half ended with the score line showing 0-0, left a tired Unforgiven feeling like they should have done better with their opportunities.
Wild Boars on the other hand had blunted the attack of The Unforgiven, and with their opponents being a customary player down; Wild Boars were looking to make their move against a tiring team.
The Wild Boars freed up in the second half, and were much more aggressive, creating some good opportunities in front of goal.
The Unforgiven took the opportunity to employ a much more free flowing game, but neither team were able to put one in the back of the net.
It wasn't till midway in the half that The Unforgiven broke the deadlock with a goal from Mitch Tuza.
The lead was short lived however, and a superb lofted pass gave Andrew Chapman an open shot on goals, which he swiftly converted into the Boars equalizer.
That was all the scoring there was going to be, and the final siren sounded with both teams still unable to score an elusive winning goal.
Overtime and both teams were now starting to show physical signs of tiredness.
The Unforgiven struggled to make up for its missing player, but the Wild Boars made some simple skill errors in front of goal, which let The Unforgiven off the hook.
But with the game in its 3rd minute of overtime, Tim Boyce managed to center to Krys Lockheart who burned a shot in pass the keeper to put Unforgiven up 2-1.
Wild Boars tried hard to come back, but when another Boyce - Lockheart combination resulted in a second overtime goal, the Boars hopes were dashed.
The final score showed Unforgiven up 3-1.
So The Unforgiven go through to next weeks Grand Final, and the Boars are set to face off with The Replacements next Thursday night.
If Wild Boars play as well as they did in this game, the Replacements will struggle.
However the Replacements did pull off a 1-0 win against Boars in the last round, so the game shapes up as a cracker!!!!
Elimination Final - Huskies vs. The Replacements by Alison Jones
Still getting over the sad and emotional departure of teammate Brads move to Queensland, we went out a bit slow and unfocussed.
The Huskies have always been a hard team for us to play against, only winning against them once before from all the times we have played, so we had to dig deep and play how we know we can, as a team.
The first goal was scored by the Huskies and seemed to set us back into a defensive game for a short time until Daniel stole the ball from the opposition and followed through with a great goal into the top corner while sliding on his knees.
This put us into attack and not long after this Alison offloaded a fantastic pass to Amy who lefthandedly tapped the ball through the keepers legs to finish the first half at 2 - 1.
Second half we went out confident not to let this one get away from us like we did last final series and showed what a great defensive team we can be.
Halfway through second half we sealed the win with another great goal this time from one of our newer players Michael.
This was his first goal and both Michael and Dave have come a long way from their first few games of struggling to stay on their feet to both being great assets to our team.
Final score 3 - 1 to the Replacements. This one was for you Brad. Go team!

B Division - Week 17
Raptors Secure 2nd after Epic vs Phoenix !!
Raptors vs. Phoenix by Davin Harvey
What a crazy game....
Fast paced, edge of your seat broomball entertainment, Mrs. Vost was asking for a 3rd period of play.
Ice was wet resulting in a slow start, both teams pushing for more than they could under the conditions.
While Phoenix seemed to adjust better, it was Raptors who struck first with a goal to John Flaherty, in close too, some good team work from Louis and Penny both picking up Assists.
Phoenix replied quickly though, with Andrew Chapman putting a nice shot away from the side, finding the far side of the goals open.
1-1, and both teams hungry for more.....
Late in the half, with the game still flowing end to end, Martin Sultana picked up a loose ball, and got a good shot past the keeper, 2-1 Raptors.
Raptors again losing the lead in the dying moments of the 1st half, Phoenix was able to put their 2nd away with Damien Coyler the scorer, 2 all @ half time.
Second half, both teams came out strong again, Raptors a little more composed and holding the ball well, and good movement when in possession.
Early in the 2nd half Kevin Chen got a breakaway, and with a sexy, the official term "Hand pass thingy", goal putting Raptors in the lead again 3-2.
Raptors were looking to hold the lead to the end of the half, holding more possession, and breaking down Phoenix, until with about 6 mins to go, Phoenix got a shot off and the scrambling Raptors defence pushed it into their own net.....3-3, and 6mins to go.
Soon after Raptors on the charge again, Michael Sultana and Davin Harvey combining well and Davin Harvey was able to put it in the back of the net, eventually.....4-3, can it be drawn again??
Thankfully the answer was no, Raptors holding out in the end, running the clock down with the possession, until 20 secs to go, Kevin Chen and Michael Sultana combined looking to put the nail in the coffin.
Unfortunately not able to, but 4-3, a win was the result we watned.
Outstanding effort from both Raptors females tonight, ran their little hearts out working well in both attack and defence.
Keep up the great spirit girls, this motivates the whole team to push harder too.
Look forward to next week everyone, it took a lot to win this one, and we did well to keep firing throughout the game.

Terminators Go Back to Back Men's Champions
Semi Final 1 - Warriors vs. Ticklers by Saxon Hooper
Warriors have struggled all season with player attendance and on a finals night you would think it wouldnt be a problem.
Well surprise surprise started the game with 4 players, two of those ringins, with their 5th and last player turning up 10 minutes in.
Natrually Ticklers dominated possession, shots, tackles, and the scoreboard.
Winning 6-1 and moving comfortably into the grand final, hardly raising a sweat.
Semi Final 2 - Terminators vs. Silver Stench by Saxon Hooper
The Stench living up to their name playing in unwashed shirts took on Terminators in the second semi final.
This was a very entertaining game.
Good strategy, thinking plays, possession and excitement.
Terminators on the board first taking a 1-0 lead to half time.
Stench running hard and applying pressure to try and get back finally cracked the terminators with not long to go.
1 all and it looked like OT.
However a break, a save, a goal mouth scramble, a lunge and a goal !!
2-1 Terminators right on full time, unbelievable finish to a great game.
Grand Final - Ticklers vs. Terminators by Saxon Hooper
The top two teams in the final, Terminators vs Ticklers.
Terminators exploiting their pace using Daniel Wong, Tim Brown, Chris Dezman (who didnt play a single round game but showed up for the final) and Bryan Macklin tp break on Ticklers.
Ticklers playing great possession with Peter Yabsley and Tim Ollerton controlling the play expertly.

Round Games Complete !
Penrith City Rangers vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Well Rangers saved their best for last, thrashing minor premier hopefuls Druids 4-1.
using their supeior speed, they set up multiple breakaways and converted all of them.
A good sign for coming seasons for Rangers.
Werrington Ninjas vs. Werrington County Sonics by Ryan Findlayson
With the Druids losing, and Sonics completing duty and not forfeiting, it meant that Sonics had sealed the minor premiership.
Ninjas could finish no worse than 4th, but with a win, they could gain the novelty of finishing 3rd in front of the fast starting Ravens.
The game was played at a frantic pace, with both sides moving around a lot to support the ball carrier, when their side had the ball.
This caused a lot of work for the opposition's defense!!!
Sonics were first on the board when Tim Brown caught the Ninjas defense flat footed, and received a pass on the run, and ran straight through the defense to do a Saxon to beat Saxon who was in goals.
Ninjas, replied with 100% commitment to the ball, Ryan Findlayson getting his own rebound, and slipping it behind the keeper for the Sonics defense to uncontrolably slide it in.
Shortly after Josh Drinkall flicked in another Ryan Findlayson rebound to give Ninjas the 2-1 lead at half time.
More action in the second half as Tim Brown made a break down the sideline, the Ninjas defense comitted to cutting off the pass.
They got o good piece of it, but a friendly bounce off the wall straight back to the Sonics attack, saw them level the scores.
Ninjas then put some quality passing together, and this lead to their third goal as a few good lead up passes and a through ball to Linda Bell, gave Linda the one on one with the keeper opportunity, which she nicely slotted into the top corner.
Ninjas then rallied in defense, and managed to keep the ever dangerous Sonics out for the remainder of the game.
So the 3-2 win to Ninjas.
In the 3 games these two teams have met this season, 17 goals have been scored, and the largest winning margin was 1 goal (Very entertaining games!!!)

The Penguins Shut out the Wannabes !!
Wildebeets vs. Team Icebucket by Ryan Findlayson
Team IceBucket needing a win to keep there finals hopes alive, Wildebeests having already secured the minor premiership were playing for self satisfaction.
IceBuckets started with just four on the ice, so Wildebeests comitted deep in attack, open the gate for yet another Liam Golding breakaway goal (Damn that Liam).
Ice Buckets gained the rest of their team, and put some good defense together to hold out Wildebeests, who were playing a very lack lustre game.
So the game ended at 1-0 to Team IceBucket.
Wildebeests left to find other ways to self satisfy themselves.
Team IceBucket awaiting other results to go there way!!!
Polar Bears vs. Huskies by Jason Hall
Some sloppy play from a couple of the Huskies at the start of the match created problems in attack, but the Huskies defence held well in the beginning.
Polar bears pretty much kept on the defensive for the start of the match.
A good passage of play saw Simmo score first for the Huskies.
Some niggly play early in the second half sent a player from each team off for two minutes.
Polar Bears mounted a lot of pressure to try and equalise the game in the second half.
Luckily the game was clinched by a great second goal from the Huskies.
Polar bears didn't give up though and stepped the attack up a notch.
Trying to get a goal through shear determination.
Huskies defence looking ragged in the face of this attack, but they just held on for the win.
With the Huskies relying too heavily on a scrambling defence and the goal keeper, they really need to find some structure in defence or they will only be making up the numbers next week.
They did get a 2 - nil confidence booster heading into the finals though.
The Penguins vs. Low Riders by Daniel Wong
The last B-grade game of the night saw The Penguins match up against the Low Riders.
The Penguins had to win to secure a place in top 4 and with this in mind they went up 2 - 0 early in the first half.
The first goal was scored by Jason Wheeler off some good one-two passing.
After The Penguin's second goal and the introduction of Chris Dezman the Low Riders seemed to be a different team with Josh Drinkall pulling one back midway through the first half.
The rest of the game was pretty even with no additional goals being scored.
Final Score: 2 - 1 to The Penguins.

Season is Complete!!
Carney Clownz vs. Uncos by Lana Kupiers
The last game of the season for the Unco's proved to be an interesting one.
The team went into the game with no substitutes, and very few (ie one) attacking players.
Despite these not-so-great odds, the team managed to pull off one of their most convincing victories to date.
It was perhaps the most defensive game the Unco's have ever played, and two defence people, Jess Olford and Dann Binns tried their hand at attack, and consequently played their best game to date.
It was later discovered that anger was a major contributing factor to this.
An interesting piece of information this captain won't forget for next season ;).
Matt Harris once again used his skill to deflect any Carney Clownz attempts on goal whilst Marc Kuipers also displayed skill in defence.
Chris Dezman and Russ Gregory shared the scoring for the team.
The Unco's finished on a high for the season, securing 3 goals, whilst the Carney Clownz had a score of 0 at full time.
All Unco's are looking forward to a new season, complete with new name.
Can't wait.
Wild Boars vs. The Replacements by No One
The Replacements won 1-0.
Im sure it was exciting but we will never know......
Huskies vs. Tigers by Jason Hall
Huskies started the game with only 4 regular players and 2 helpers from the Replacements.
Wrong shirts for the replacements meant that these two had 2 minutes off each at the first touch of the ball.
This caused some problems in the Huskies defence which was capitalised on by the Tigers.
A goal in the first 2 minutes putting them up 1 - nil.
Huskies got used to it though and played some good broomball to keep it to the same scoreline till the rest of the troops arrived about 8 minutes in.
A penalty saw the new players swap the replacement players and after some quick play 2 goals were scored for the Huskies.
Half time 2-1 the Huskies.
Tigers started the second half well and two quick goals put them ahead 3-2.
Nothing the Huskies could do seemed to matter and it looked like the Tigers would pull the upset and ruin the Huskies chance at the finals.
Luckily in the last couple of minutes the Huskies managed to pull 1 back to make it 3 all and head into overtime.
The first half of overtime was all the Tigers.
With them some lucky misses the only thing keeping the Huskies in the game.
Some poor defence and an unfortunate off side making the Huskies their own worst enemy's.
The second half of overtime was a different story.
A lot of pressure from the Huskies saw them place in the winner and keep there finals hopes alive.

Womens Division - Finals
Crimson Furies - Women's Champions
Semi Final 1 - Silver Snipers vs. BGs by Saxon Hooper
Snipers went into this one as heavy favourites, finishing 1st on count back.
However in finals you never know and BGs have done very well in their first season.
A good crowd was on hand to check this one out and it was Snipers who didnt disapoint them.
Karen Bell laying the ball back for Sally Yabsley to belt in from long range.
1-0 Snipers 3 minutes into the game.
Just five minutes later Sally Yabsley and Karen Thompson released Linda Bell who finished 1 on 1 with the keeper for a Snipers 2-0 lead.
No further goals in the game giving the Snipers a 2-0 win and first spot in the grand final.
Semi Final 2 - Cedrus Diadara vs. Crimson Furies by Saxon Hooper
Furies came out fast and were all over the Trees putting on heaps of pressure.
However Cedrus held out and the score was 0-0 at half time.
The 2nd period began much the same as the 1st with Furies applying all the pressure.
Cedrus held out and looked like they were going to take the game into OT.
However in a goal mouth scramble, Coutney Shanks was hand to tap home the goal for Furies.
It was enough to win the game and put Crimson Furies into the Grand Final.
Great Final, Great Women's comp, Hopefully we will continue to grow it next year.
Well done Girls and congrats to Crimson Furies !!

6 of the 8 Teams Can Still Make the Finals - What a Season !!
Raptors vs. The Penguins by Davin Harvey
First game again Monday night, and Penguins struggling for players.
Game started Penguins one player down and Raptors attacking hard.
1st goal came about 5mins into the first half with John Flaherty flicking a good pass into Louis Sultana to put it low and hard past the keeper, 1-0 Raptors.
The score remained the same for the 1st half, Raptors with the bulk of possession, getting some good attacking flow, just not being able to finish it off.
The Penguins on the other hand had a few counter attack breaks, but also unable to convert, Raptors usually able to break the flow with not too much pressure on the keeper.
2nd half saw The Penguins out with a full team and creating a few more opportunities, however Raptors held their own and managed a 2nd goal mid way through the half with another good flick from John Flaherty to Davin Harvey, who managed to control the ball for once that night, and put it between the keepers legs, 2-0 Raptors.
Game looked all but wrapped up, until with 5mins to go Kevin Chen turns up for the game of his life.
I think he touched the ball once, well worth the $50 petrol he wasted flying out to Penrith at warp speed......
Good to see a dedicated Raptor getting out there for his team.
Game finished up 2-0, Raptors with a good game all round, possession was great, defence and subbing was good.
Let's keep it rolling into the finals.
Polar Bears vs. Low Riders by Eric Fry and Nathan Lawler
Eric or Nathan couldnt be bothered... I think Polar Bears won 2-1.
Wildebeests vs. Phoenix by Ryan Findlayson
Wildebeests having broken their three game losing streak, were looking to continue on their winning path.
Phoenix at the bottom of the table had no answer to the enthusiasm of the Wildebeests.
The Wildebeest keeper didn't have to make a save in the entire game!!!
But at the other end, Joel Robson was having a blinder in goals, keeping the Wildebeests to just two goals.
One to Mark Dasco, and one to Linda Bell.
Mark Dasco got seriously unlucky on many other occasions.
Big hitters, Ryan and Aron each had a few good shots saved, a few swing just wide, a few hit the posts, and even a couple seemingly go in and straight back out again, but not awarded.
This rounded off with some good defense by Lauren O'Brien and Grace Dasco, and mid field work by Linda Bell and Bob Irwin, meant that Phoenix never had a chance.
So 2-0 win to the Wildebeests who have now secured the minor premiership!!!
Team IceBucket vs. Huskies by Jason Hall
Another great game in B grade saw the Huskies up against The Ice Buckets.
Ice buckets looking for a win to claw into the top 4, Huskies battling for the all important number 2 position on the ladder.
Both teams started well, with Huskies a little ahead in possession, but The Ice Buckets seeming to be a bit more structured.
The importance of the game showed and both teams had people sent off in the first half for flares of aggravation.
No matter how each side tried though, it went into the break nil all.
Second half was the same with players putting in their all, both in attack and defence.
Some great plays from both teams making it an exciting game to watch.
Eric Fry scored first for the Ice buckets off Sam Boer after a great bit of play highlighted by some diving saves from the Huskies and a near miss from the Ice buckets.
Both teams continued the close game till about 5 minutes left in the game, when the Huskies stepped it up a notch.
Keeping a lot of possession and having some good shots on goal only to have them either bounce of the post or saved by the keeper.
Then Pete Yabsley came up with the goal for the Huskies with less then a minute to go to send it into overtime.
Overtime saw the ball go back and forth. A couple of times shots on goal just going wide, but in the end this one fittingly ended in a draw.
Not exactly what either team wanted, but not the worst that could of happened.
Should make the final regular season games next week very interesting.
Team IceBucket vs. Huskies by Liam Golding
The last game for the evening was the Huskies up against TIB.
Both teams played a competitive game with opportunities on both sides going begging.
Into the break 0-0, the second half was more of the same until Chris Dezman managed to miss the a one on one with the keeper, but catch the rebound, and somehow slide the ball behind the pile of people now massed in front of the goals and score.
With only five more minutes or so left to play, TIB slowed it down and played possession.
That was only up to the point when Pete Yabsley grabbed the ball, ran around two or three TIB players, and scored the equaliser with about ten seconds left on the clock.
Overtime was a slow game with neither side able to penetrate the defence, and thus the 1-1 draw played out to full time.

Exciting Rematches !!
The Unforgiven vs. Huskies by Jason Solomon
A very close game between The Unforgiven and The Huskies.
Both teams scoring one goal each in the first half of the game.
The Unforgiven were first off the mark with a goal by Tim Boyce closely followed by a Huskies goal by Glen ButlerFleming.
Alan Fornal scored a second goal for the Huskies which was disallowed due to the score sheet not being filled out.
(Editors note: And I just sent and email about this.. when will you guys learn ?)
The score remained 1 all until the end of the game, a final goal in overtime by Tim Boyce saw a win for The Unforgiven.
The Unforgiven vs. Huskies by Tim Boyce
Huskies would have been keen to show The Unforgiven what might have been, having been forced to forfiet to them only the week before.
The Unforgiven on the other hand, were missing their 2 leading goalscorers, but with 1st place already securly in their hands, there were no alarm bells sounding in their camp.
The game was played at a heated pace, and an early knock down intercept resulted in the opening goal going to The Unforgiven through Tim Boyce.
A strong shot from Glen Butler-Fleming brought the Huskies back even shortly thereafter, and the half time scoreline read 1-1.
The Huskies started off the second half brilliantly, with some superb weaving offence giving them an early goal...
or at least it would have, if the goal hadn't been dissallowed because the scorers name was not on the team sheet.
Unfortunatly that ended the scoring for both teams, which meant the game went into overtime.
The Huskies started overtime well, controlling the ball and defending aggressivly in their offencive half to keep The Unforgiven on the back foot for most of the opening minutes.
However they were unable to capitalise on their possession, and a turn over gave The Unforiven the chance to do some attacking of their own.
The deadlock was eventually broken through a long range goal, again from Tim Boyce, which left the keeper little chance after deflecting off 2 pairs of Huskie feet.
A 2-1 OT win to The Unforgiven which probably shouldn't have been, but is nevertheless a timely reminder before the finals...
Fill in your team sheets correctly, lest you loose an important game as a result.
Tigers vs. Carney Clownz by Kim Harvey
A close game between the Tigers and the Carney Clownz!
The game started off with some great defending by both teams and the first goal being scored by Bernie Clark from the Tigers in first half, 16 minutes in.
The game was evened out with just 2 minutes left in the second half.
Josh Burton was assisted by Kim Harvey in making the game 1-1.
Both teams went hard out the rest of game, trying to win it!
At full-time the game was a draw so overtime was called for.
With only 40 seconds left in overtime, a great goal by Matt Innes, with an assist to Kim Harvey, gave the game to the Clownz, with a 2-1(OT) win.
The Replacements vs. The Uncos by Lana Kuipers
After last weeks win over The Replacements for the Unco's, this weeks match almost seemed to be a grudge match to a certain extent.
Both teams had the advantage of remembering how the other worked, and with this knowledge, the entire match was a stalemate - at full time the score was 0:0.
Consequently, both teams went head to head in overtime battle - five minutes, four players each side, one ball.
Was it on or what!?
Slowly, ever so slowly, the five minutes on the clock whittled away with attempts made on goal from both sides.
Then it came down to the last 10 painful seconds of overtime when Brad Gregory of The Replacements put in a goal.
Congratulations to The Replacements on their fine game and sportspeople-like attitude.
A great game!
Stand out performance this week for the Unco's was Beck Collier who worked so hard in every position imaginable and did extraordinarily well.
Here is to next week!

Snipers Take out the Minor Premiership
Crimson Furies vs. BGs by Saxon Hooper
Despite winning the last game and finishing on equal points with Snipers, the head to head result meant Crimson Furies finished 2nd.
The 1-0 win over BGs taking Furies to 17 points equal with Snipers, however a draw and 1-0 loss to Snipers means 2nd place.
Next weeks finals are as follows:
Semi Final 1: 9:15 1st Silver Snipers vs 4th Bgs
Semi Final 2: 9:45 2nd Crimson Furies vs 3rd Cedrus Diadara
The winners of the two semi's will square off in the grand final.

Sonics Juggernaut Rolls On
Penrith City Rangers vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
Rangers were set to struggle against a rampant Sonics, especially having no subs.
However in the first half they defended well, had a couple opportunites and went into the break only 1-0 down.
A few breakaways could have meant a lead to Rangers, they (Byan) just couldnt finish 1 on 1 with the keeper.
After the break however Sonics superior numbers began to take it's toll and the timnihilation began.
4 goals and 3 assists to Tim Brown, 3 goals 2 assists to Ben Robson and 1 to Kerry Baxter took the lead out to 8-0 nil.
Bryan Macklin finally converted a chance and the score finished 8-1.
Sonics looking dangerous leading up to the finals.
Richmond Ravens vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
As always the Ravens vs Druids games are high paced and a lot of fun to play.
Ravens playing their first game without Dane Hansen and Jo Mitchell who have gone overseas to hone their broomball skills in Canada.
The loss of these players didnt seem to effect ravens too much as they put away the first goal.
Two quick passes and a one timer finish by Karen Thompson put them up 1-0, a lead they carried into half time.
Druids responded in the second half, Damien Colyer scoring unassisted to tie it away.
Saxon Hooper giving Druids the lead a short time later with an assist from Tim Ollerton.
2-1 Win for Druids, needing to beat Rangers next week and Ninjas to upset Sonics to take out the minor premiership.

2 Rounds to GO !!
Huskies vs. The Penguins by Jason Hall
With the comp getting to the business end of the season and the ladder very tight, the whole season could come down to these last two rounds for at least 4 teams.
This match then became very important for both teams as they both need 2 wins to guarantee them a spot in the finals.
The Huskies got the ball first and mounted a good raid into the Penguins half.
This must have lulled the Huskies who completely under estimated Daniel Wong's speed and effectiveness in the counter attack.
Before the side could blink he had slotted one home in the first minute.
5 minutes later and the Huskies hadn't learnt as Daniel ran through again to score another goal.
With the Penguins up 2 nil within six minutes and Daniel running free it looked bad for the Huskies.
Huskies re-setting the defence against the counter attack, and always keeping at least 2 back to try and cramp Daniel's room.
Huskies also trying to keep possession to maintain pressure on the Penguins.
This paid dividends late in the first half when Luke Simmonds scored a goal with 7 minutes to go and then Jason hall scored the equaliser in the 15th minute.
The penguins came out well at the beginning of the second half, but the Huskies kept at it and seemed to finally get some commitment into their game.
The second part of the half clearly going the Huskies way.
Possession was nearly all Huskies and shots came in hard and fast, only to be denied by some great saves.
2 all at full time.
Overtime saw the Huskies dominate from the out set, with most of the time spent in the Penguins half.
Attack after attack were just beaten back and a draw looked inevitable.
Then with under a minute to go Pete Yabsley came to the Huskies aid and slammed in a nice winner off Glen Butler-Flemming.
A much needed win for the Huskies, though their team work needs to improve to be a chance in the semi's.
Some good hustle from the Penguins who should be a force in the finals.
Raptors vs. Team IceBucket by Davin Harvey
Monday night was a good game between the two teams, fast, open and plenty of opportunities being created at both ends.
Raptors started with more possession and control, working it around looking for a chance to break the Ice Buckets defence, to no avail.
The game then evened Ice Buckets breaking through the Raptors line and creating some strong attacking opportunities.
1st half finished even 0-0.
2nd half Raptors came out firing, but it was the Ice Buckets cool heads that game them the edge.
Their first goal coming on the counter attack with Liam finishing a nice break away.
2nd goal coming late in the 2nd half with a long shot that the keeper didn't see coming and it was 2-0, Ice Buckets.
Raptors fought to the end, but could not capitalise on their chances.
Good game from both teams, score didn't really reflect the game.
Look forward to turning it around next week.
Raptors vs. Team IceBucket by Mel Koehler
Another good game was on its way with team Ice Bucket trying hard to get back into their winning streak.
The first half started slowly with both teams testing each others defenses.
Raptors were pressing hard, but the defensive line kept getting in their way.
In the second half the game started picking up when Liam Golding scored a break away goal against the Raptors.
With five minutes left to go, Raptors were trying hard to break even, and got a few good chances, all foiled by Ice Buckets' keeper Alex Crook.
With one minute left Russel Gregory scored the second goal securing the win for the Ice Buckets.
Final score: Ice Bucket: 2 Raptors: 0
Low Riders vs. Phoenix by Andrew Chapman
Here we are.... Another exciting week for Phoenix.
The only team that can't make the finals.
Again we were looking for a second female player, and after some begging, crying and exaggerated promises based on past glory, we managed to obtain Mel Koehler.
Luckily Amran Sinha was also playing for us to make up numbers and to give the guys a sub.
If our lack of consistent players and inability to show up on time keeps up, I'm renaming the team to Cityrail.
Play started with me realising that this is now a tidy Low Riders.
Last time we played them, they were newbies from C Grade. Now they look like they're all steroid pumped, hard hitting freaks that should be winning more games than they currently are.
The first half was the usual affair, lots of passing, runs, missed opportunities, and the occasional case of Samitis.
Somehow hockey ace Nikki Allsop found herself wide open in front of the Phoenix goal, and a Josh Drinkall pass found her slotting the ball home faster than a Zirtek.
That pass was about the only decent thing Josh did all night - another ordinary performance full of botched up passes and losing the ball to me.
Well done champion!
Our newest ring-in Amran saved our butts this game with a beautiful goal some time later.
After a blocked first shot, he was there to slurp up the dregs and do a nice little flick over a sprawled keeper.
Into overtime we went.
We played ok for about 2 minutes, then I forgot that Nathan Lawler was standing on the half way line.
He received a pass from Josh (the second good thing he did all game), but luckily couldn't control it.
I chased, he chased, and our keeper Katie came out from around the net in a race for the ball.
I couldn't get there, but Katie did.
Just as she made a dive on the ice to swing the ball away, Mr Lawler stopped running and tried to intercept her wild swing.
Unfortunately he did, and did a nice push pass from the blue straight into the back of the net.
Low Riders win 2-1 in overtime. But that doesn't matter, as Phoenix got 2 points out of this, keeping us well within contention to soar up the ladder and into second last place.

Huskies Let in The Other Teams
The Unforgiven vs. Huskies by Saxon Hooper
Huskies forfeited to The Unforgiven, only able to get 3 on the ice.
Tigers vs. Carney Clownz by Saxon Hooper(and I wasnt even there)
The first half was tight with the first goal not being scored until the 15th minute.
Tigers on the board when Glenn Crook and Ben Bell combined to set up Sally Yabsley for the 1-0 half time Tigers lead.
More of the same in the 2nd half until with 9 minutes to go Bernie Clarke doubled the Tigers lead.
Carney Clownz werent done with yet and less than a minute later halved the lead with Kim Harvey and Jacob Stofmeel assisting Josh Burton for the goal.
Three minutes later the scores were all locked up, Brenton Igleas setting up Joel Clough.
This one was headed for OT.
Unbelievably with only 5 seconds on the clock and with Joel Clough in the penalty box for Carney Clownz, Tigers not so new recruit Paul Stockbridge slotted home the OT winner.
The rematch next week should be a cracker.
The Replacements vs. The Uncos by Lana Kuipers
For the first time this season, The Unco's met The Replacements head to head in broomball.
After two weeks of miserable efforts, The Unco's goal for the game was to improve defence techniques and extend themselves in attack - this was achieved, oh boy was it achieved.
It was in the most unexpected circumstances that the Unco's form - for the first time ever - finally fell into place.
Defence were working in-synch with attack and vica versa, taking up any chance of possession.
For the entire first half of the match it appeared to be a stalemate.
It was in the tenth minute of the second half that the one and only goal of the match was scored by Chris Dezaman.
I am sure that all of Penrith heard the Unco's uproar.
Defence worked overtime to ensure that The Replacements had a small as chance as possible at evening out the score.
In the last two minutes of the match, it looked as if The Replacements were going to even it out, but with quick efforts in defence these attempts were quashed.
There is one single stand out Unco this week - once again being Matt Harris who saved every shot on goal made by The Replacements.
Although the rest of the team - Dan Binns, Jess Olford, Beck Collier, Pearce Van de Pol, Marc Kuipers & Russ Gregory also deserve special mention of their hard work and great spirit.
Next weeks match looks to be interesting as the Unco's face the Replacements once again.
Bring on next week!

Cedrus win in Final Round Game
Cedrus Diadara vs. BGs by Saxon Hooper
Bgs were a little undermanned for this one only having enough for the team and no subs.
However coach Peter Yabsley introduced them to the 4-1 forecheck and they managed to keep Cedrus trapped for long periods.
Unfortunately as they were only learning the technique they just got out of position a couple times and Cedrus capitalised.
Firstly Tracy Ivin making a break, drawing the keeper and flicking it back across for the opening goal.
The second goal again came from a Tracy Ivin break, this time Sara Kristof there to put it past the keeper.
Bgs down 2-0 at half time didnt give up and managed to keep the green trees scoreless in the second.
Final score 2-0.
Next week is the final round game for the womens division, Crimson Furies vs BGs.
Unfortunately for BGs they will finish 4th regardless of next weeks result.
Crimson Furies on the other hand have the chance to move into 2nd past Cedrus Diadara if they can get the win.

Warriors vs. Ticklers by Saxon Hooper
Ticklers systematically destroyed Warriors putting on 8 goals to nil.
2 goals in the opening period, followed by 1 in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd and 2 in the last.
Warriors had no answer as they failed to mark up in front of goals and turned the ball over far too often.
Peter Yabsley (4g3a) and Tim Ollerton (2g3a) were the chief destroyers.
The loss leaves Warriors on the bottom of the table in 4th.
Ticklers move to equal 1st with Terminators with the game between them next Tuesday deciding the minor premiership.
The silver Stench have finished 3rd.

Ninjas and Rangers in OT
Penrith City Rangers vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Druids full of confidence after their 2-0 win over Sonics last week.
Adding to their confidence was the six goals they scored last time these teams met.
However just before the start of play they learnt Damo Colyer had been carted off in an ambulance and Steve Clarke would be missing again due to a painful back injury.
So down to three guys and four girls.
Druids applied their normal game formula to this game, get the ball into attack, move it around the outside and look for a shot into the waiting screeners and defelectors.
Last time these teams met, Rangers in defence with lack of possession panicked and over extended creating many man advantages for Druids to exploit.
However this time they didnt rush out of position but maintained their zone and kept Druids socreless for the first half.
They even got into attack a few times and strung some good possession together for their own chances.
Into the second half, with Druids in possession and in attack, a shot got deflected to the back wall behind the goals.
Katie Laybutt got back there first, found Saxon Hooper along the wall who fed the ball up to Tim Ollerton who boomed the one timer in from the top of the circle.
However there was still plenty of time left for Rangers.
On the back of a penalty Rangers got possession in their attacking half and good ball movement saw them create some good chances for no conversion.
Just as the penalty expired however Lisa Price got the ball unmarked in range and sent a nice shot into the top left corner.
1-1 with 3 minutes to go.
No further goals meant OT, Druids started well maintaining posession and nearly scoring on a couple of occassions.
A turnover and a sqeezed ball from Luke Simmonds to Daniel Wong, saw the speedy little bugger go the length of the ice and just guide the ball in, for an OT win for Rangers.
A good game with an exciting finish.
Werrington Ninjas vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
Ninjas minus Ryan Findlayson, Linda Bell and Shannon Vost called up Nikki Allsopp from B team Low Riders to fill their girl quota and take on the might that is Werrington Sonics.
Sonics started fast controlling the game and before too long had their first goal.
Tim Brown volleying a high ball, was it a high stick on ball ?? Was close but the refs awarded it, 1-0 Sonics after 8 minutes.
Five minutes later it was 2-0 with Matt Xerri setting up Ben RObson to score.
2 nil Ninjas never go away without a fight and a turn over resulted in the ball being at an unmarked Shannon Jorda just 2 metres from the net.
The resulting flick shot beat the keeper, 2-1 Sonics with 10 to go in the first.
Just 5 minutes later Ninjas evened it up, again Jorda unmarked in the slot put a slow fast shot past the keeper, 2-2.
4 goals in the half already and with just one and a half minutes on the clock Matt Xerri found Tim Brown to make it 3-2 Sonics.
The second half saw both teams tighten things up and no goals were scored for the first 17 minutes.
Peter Yabsley with ball out wide on an unlikely angle smashed one through the keeper 3-3 only 8 to go.
No further socres were managed leaving the score at 3-3.
Into OT and it was over before it even really got started, Shannon Jorda completing his hat trick for Ninjas giving them a 4-3 OT victory.

Wildebeests Consolidate
Team IceBucket vs. The Penguins by Russell Gregory
The first game of the night was shaping up to be a cracker, with 4th and 5th on the ladder facing off against each other.
The first half saw a few opportunities go begging, fast breaks being the order of the day but not being able to finish the scoring opportunities meant that the scores would remain at 0-0 at half time.
The second half started badly for Team Ice Bucket, with a fumble on the red line turning the ball over to the Penguin’s Jason Wheeler who raced away for a 1 on 1 goal.
The lack of subs really hurt Team Ice Bucket with some tired defence allowing the Penguins to go two goals up shortly after, which is the way the game finished.
Penguins Def. Team Ice Bucket 2-0.
Team IceBucket vs. The Penguins by Daniel Wong
The first game on Monday saw the much anticipated game between Team Ice Bucket and The Penguins face off on very wet ice.
Both teams were confident of winning, TIB being unbeaten in 6 games (5 wins and a draw) and The Penguins coming fresh off their Thursday defeat of the Wildebeests.
The healthy rivalry between these teams continued even before the game started with some good old taunting.
The game started slowly but once the ice dried up both teams found full stride.
There were some good shots by both teams but good teamwork and fast passing by The Penguins saw them score two unanswered goals to Jason Wheeler and Daniel Wong.
TIB pressed hard all night but were unable to find a way through The Penguin's defence.
Final score 2 - 0 to The Penguins.
Phoenix vs. Polar Bears by Eric Fry
As the starting whistle blew it was obvious that this was going to be an eventful match.
Polar bears in an unusual move actually started with a full team on the ice.
This hasn't happened since broomball decided to enforce game starting times!
The first 10 minutes passed by without anything of noteworthy happening.
At around the ten minute mark the game was brought to a halt as Damo from Phoenix collapsed on the ice.
The ambulance was called and play stopped while he recovered.
Play recommenced shortly after with a shaken Phoenix taking to the ice.
They quickly regained composure with Cam Parkes scoring a goal for Phoenix with 5 minutes left on the clock.
The Polar Bears returned with an equalizing goal scored by Mark Kim.
Andrew Chapman scored for Phoenix with 30 seconds left on the clock.
As the half time siren sounded it was brought to the refs attention that neither Cam or Mark had their names marked down on the team sheet. So both Goals were disallowed.
Phoenix suffered some penalty time due to a lack of team shirts.
The Polar Bears started the second half looking to get some points back on the board.
Sam Boer rose to the challenge putting one away in the second minute.
Eric Fry from Polar bears added another goal 10 minutes in.
The Polar Bears scored another two goals from Mark Kim and Eric Fry respectively taking the final score to 4 – 1 to the Polar bears.
Wildebeests vs. Huskies by Jason Hall
Both teams coming off some disappointing losses recently, so with Wildebeest needing a win to get some confidence before the finals and Huskies needing it to stay in the top 4.
This was an important match up.
Huskies came out strongly, dominating possession and keeping the Wildebeests in their own half for most of the first 20 mins.
This pressure finally resulting in a goal to Pete Yabsley.
Putting the Huskies up by one.
Huskies continued this pressure, but a great individual goal from the Wildebeests evened it up and it went in favour of the Wildebeest early in the second half with a very lucky deflection just getting past the Huskies goalie.
The second half was again dominated by the Huskies, helped along by a rash of penalties from the Wildebeests.
A couple of times taking their numbers down to 4 on the ice.
Huskies failed to capitalise on all this though and some great defence and keeping kept it 2-1 to the Wildebeest at full time.
Huskies just can't seem to bring it together as a team, but the Wildebeest may be back on track.
Huskies vs. Wildebeests by Bob Irwin
The Huskies come into this game favourites.
With their gun team, they are carrying the best attack in the grade.
The Wilderbeasts, down 3 holidaying players, were fielding an under-strength outfit.
From the outset, it showed with a relentless torrent of Huskie attack raining upon the Wilderbeests.
Exceptional defence from Lauren 'Daffy' O'Brien and Grace 'Kelly' Dasco was backed up by first class keeping from Roy 'The Paddle' Dasco.
However, you can't take a beating like that without conceding *something*.
Peter Yablsey finally breaking through the defence when he followed up on a shot.
A good save from Roy had the ball take an unfortunate deflection towards Pete, who flicked over for the goal.
More of the same for the next few minutes before some tidy break away work from Aron Calfas and Mark Dasco saw the game at 1-all.
Aron gathering up the ball in front of the goal for his trademark "sweet lullaby" shot...
Its a low percentage, keeping him out from that range.
He was unlucky not to pick up a second goal shortly afterwards, with the keeper wrong footed by a pass, leaving Aron and the ball in front of goal.
Huskies goalie Kieran Macdonald made a desperate dive to force the ball out, saving the goal and a red face.
Both sides very lucky to be going to the break 1-all.
The second half was more of the same; the Huskie attack battering the Wilderbeests.
Constantly getting good possession, they took more shots than Robert Downie's eyeballs, but determined marking from the Wilderbeasts held them at bay.
With about 10 minutes to go, the Wilderbeests broke through the attacking hordes and a clever flick from Mark Dasco helped a powerful long range Calfas shot past the keeper.
2-1 to the Wilderbeasts.
Here, the game went up a gear, the Huskies desperate to get back on level pegging, threw everything at the Wilderbeests.
Brutal defence saw 4 Wilderbeast send-offs, in an orgy of hedonistic rage.
For almost 2 minutes, a 4 man Wilderbeast outfit shut down the rampaging Huskies attack.
They had worked hard, and overtime was not an option.
The Wilderbeasts cleared the ball time and time again, until in the last minute, they made a controlled break to the Huskie half and closed out the match with good possession and perseverance.
A very tight game and an unlikely win.
The Wilderbeasts can take heart from their much improved defence and conversion of their few chances in this game.
Now - just as they find form, they face their worst enemy... The bye.

B Division - Week 13
Thursday B Divsion Action
The Penguins vs. Wildebeests by Bob Irwin
This game saw plenty of end to end sprinting from both teams, with the Penguins eventually winning 2-1.
The first half was fast paced and fairly even, the Penguins superior passing giving them more chances, but the desperation of the Wilderbeast defence denying them goals.
The Pengiuns went up 1-nil when a defensive stop work meeting in front of goal allowed Daniel Wong to pounce and slip one past the keeper.
The lack of male subs had worn the Wilderbeasts down and they were lucky that the rest of the first half was a deadlock.
The second half saw an increase in effort from the Wilderbeasts (who are notorious slow starters).
The chances for each team were coming thick and fast, but the Wilderbeasts couldn't hit a watermelon with a fork and desperate defence was all that kept those pesky flightless birds out.
After Ryan Findlayson gave himself a stern sideline talking to, some good passing on the wing from Linda Bell saw some him with good one on one opportunities.
The first pass from Linda was a brilliant ball that he just couldn't get control of and the second resulted in some scrap near the keeper and a tidy flick into that back of goal.
Locked at 1 all, the Penguins went into the last 5 minutes full of run.
The clincher come from James Kristof who somehow squeezed a thumping shot past the nearside post, leaving the keeper and defence looking for the smoking gun.
From there, the Wilderbeasts didn't have the puff for another equaliser and the Penguins did it easy at the end.
The Wilderbeasts, with 3 straight defeats and a continuing shortage of available players will need to hold out in the face of tough opposition, but above all will need to start converting their ample attacking opportunities.
The Penguins vs. Wildebeests by Daniel Wong
The Penguins coming off three consecutive losses and the top of the table Wildebeests coming off two losses both teams were desperate to curb their losing streaks.
The Penguins started well with a close range goal from Daniel Wong to make it 1-0 early in the first half.
It was a pretty even game throughout with good defence stopping all attempted fast breaks.
Midway through the second half the ball was crossed into the centre where Ryan Findlayson beat the defence and flicked it pass the goalie into the top corner of the goals making it 1-1.
Shortly after James Kristof received the ball out wide and took a massive shot to give The Penguins a hard fought 2-1 victory.

Top Teams Dish Out Broomball Lessons
The Unforgiven vs. Tigers by Tim Boyce
Being the first game of the night, it took a while for Tigers and The Unforgiven to kick into gear.
The first half was played at a slow pace, with niether team gaining any ascendancy in attack or defence.
A long range goal from Mitch Tuza broke the deadlock and the latter stages of the half, but an undiciplined penalty by The Unforgiven left them heavily outnumbered in defence and the Tigers took full advantage shortly after to go to the break with a 1 - 1 scoreline.
The second half seemed to be a complete contrast from the first, with The Unforgiven mounting some sharp attacking opportunities, resulting in second half goals to Mitch Tuza and Krys Lockheart.
Final Score: 4 - 1.
Wild Boars vs. Carney Clownz by Shannan Heninitz
Another excellent performance by the Wild Boars.
With just seconds to go in the first half, Josh scored Wild Boar's second goal, with a one-two with Cameron Parkes, leaving the score 2-0.
The second half just got better, with Wild Boars scoring another 3 goals, but not before the Carneys manage to break past their defence and scored their only goal.
Wild boars won 5-1.
A Hat trick for Josh Yabsley and singles to Andrew Boan and Cameron Parkes.
Totally Wild star Nikki Pearce the lone goal scorer for Clownz.
Huskies vs. The Uncos by Jason Hall
With the huge turn out for The Unco's seeing them start with a full bench and the Huskies just managing to get a full team together before start of play, it was easy to think that if the Huskies didn't get off to a good start, they may get run down in the second half.
The first half started well, with the Huskies playing with a bit more confidence.
Keeping good possession and placing pressure on the Unco's goals.
In return the Unco's capitalised on any stray passing to attack the Huskies goals.
Some very good if ugly saves helping hold the Unco's out.
Glen Butler Flemming got the scoring off to a start with what could be the ugliest goal ever.
Still a goals a goal and it was 1-nil to the Huskies.
The run of play was still pretty even though and Huskies were under some good pressure.
A goal to Amran giving them some breathing room going into half time.
2--nil Huskies.
The second half saw the Huskies tiring with most of the line up rotating through goals for a breather.
Early on the Unco's used this well, but then the Amran show started.
With him firing in another 3 goals (taking his tally to 4) to put the Huskies up 5-nil.
To the Unco's credit they refused to give up and attacked right till the end, being unlucky not to score a few times.
In the end a good 5-nil win to the Huskies, signalling an improvement in play at the right time of the season.

Results Reversed
Werrington County Sonics vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Druids were set upon by a rapant Tim Brown and his Merry Sonics last week as they handed out a 5 goal thrashing.
Druids were loose in defence giving Sonics too much room to move and paid the ultimate penatly.
So with that in mind, Druids as a group resolved to tighten up the defence and just generally put in a better effort.
Both teams were on song in this game, playing with good possession and equally tight defence, no chinks in the armour.
Possession and movement key as both teams probed for openings.
The first chance converted occurred for Druids in the first half when the ball made its way to Tracy Ivin unmarked in front of the net.
The shot sqeezed under the keeper for a 1-0 half time lead for Druids.
Into the second half and both teams still maintained a high level.
Possession and passing around tight zones looking for a gap.
Eventually it was Sonics who cracked when a turnover and some quick passing between Katie Laybutt and Saxon Hooper lead to Saxon on the break beating the keeper one on one with a hand thingy goal.
2-0 win for Druids reversing the result from last week.
Sonics though have taken the mini series 2 games to 1 meaning if Driuds and Sonics finish level on points, Sonics will go through first.
Werrington Ninjas vs. Richmond Ravens by Ryan Findlayson
Ninjas were completely dominated last week by a very impressive Ravens outfit, were looking to play at a higher level this week.
Ninjas came out enthusiastic, playing a very impressive first half (at least by their standards of late).
Their first goal came through an impressive swing from the chest by Chappo, and their second goal came from a nice flick up Pete on a shot coming through.
Still playing a very disciplined defense, Ninjas conceded a goal late in the half with a screaming shot from Davin, who was almost behind the goals.
In the second half, the pace that the Ninjas were playing at seemed to take it's toll, as their defense and attack started to get very lazy, and after an extensive period of possesion for Ravens, they managed to level the score through Jo Mitchell on the post.
The Ninjas tried to rally energy into each other through their voices, and this lifted their tempo again, which drew a stalemate for most of the remainder of the half.
Ravens did tire towards the end, and this did create some opportunities for the Ninjas, a shot that seemed to go in and straight back out again was not awarded (Note to self: "Hit ball slower so ref can see!!!" :-D ).
But in yet another Ninjas Vs. Ravens game, the game went into OT.
Discipline again was the name of the game for both teams OT.
Ravens won the face off and were working the easy passes to try and force an open goal shot.
But a solid man on man defense by the Ninjas, cut off all the passing options for the Ravens, which caused the turn over, and a breakaway open net goal for Ryan Findlayson.
So Ninjas 3-2 in OT.

Here Come the Bottom 4 - The B Upsets Continue
Phoenix vs. Huskies by Andrew Chapman
For the second week in a row, Phoenix had a full team.
We even managed to have 3 guys on the sideline to sub.
We started on fire, with the team already pumped from our vast numbers.
The game went from end to end for what seemed like ages.
Constant intercepts and loose balls made for a very exciting and stressful first 10 minutes for both teams.
Joel and Sarah laid the groundwork with some great defence, and kept feeding the ball to the forwards.
Both Matts had good runs through the centre, while Cameron and Jason made some blinding runs down the boards.
Cameron's good work paid off, as he eventually scored a goal.
Damo scored 2 goals in 30 seconds - it was so quick after his first that everyone on the bench was still celebrating his first, and didn't see the next goal.
Kate was her usual best in goals, keeping the Huskies to 0 and I can't even remember who scored the other goal - I'm so pumped that we won our 2nd game of the season, I've forgotten the finer points of the game.
I think it's impossible for us to make the finals, but in true Phoenix tradition, we'll be coming home strong and screwing up the finals placings for everyone else.
Go Phoenix 4-0 over Huskies !!
Phoenix vs. Huskies by Jason Hall
Looking at the stats this looked like it would be a completely one sided match with the Huskies running away with it.
This couldn't be further from the truth, with the Phoenix showing what they can do with a full team.
Huskies came on looking like they didn't want to be there, no one hustling for the ball at all and a defence that looked like a C grade team.
Across the ice the Phoenix couldn't have being playing any more different.
Playing like it was a semi final, with every player putting in their all and just outclassing the Huskies all over the ice.
Even with this though the first half saw the Huskies have a couple of good attempts on the goals with only some solid keeping denying them.
The Phoenix scored first though to go one up. Huskies had a complete line change to try and find some spark, but this failed as the Phoenix scored again just 40 seconds later through.
Half time 2-0 for the Phoenix.
Huskies came out in the second half and if possible looked even more lethargic.
Some sloppy one on one defence letting the Phoenix run at the Huskies goals again and again.
Keiren McDonald working miracles to keep most out, but even the best goalie can't stop everything and 2 more got through.
Final score a flattering 4-0 for the Huskies who seem to have lost their early season form and will need to find something if they wish to be contenders for the premiership. Phoenix putting in a clinical performance showing some great speed, well supported by a solid defence. Makes you wonder what they could have been capable of if they could have fielded full teams from the start.
Polar Bears vs. Raptors by Luke Petelczyc
Polar Bears came out fighting in this the Match of the week.
The BOER found some inspiration and planted one in the back of the net giving Polar Bears a much needed lift.
The Lessels brothers worked well in tag team mode almost causing an upset with brock trying to catch a hig ball and pull it into his own goal.
PB's ACT recruit, Kesby nailed another goal with 10 to go pushing pb's to a 2-0 advantage.
Some awesome saves from Brock kept the score low, until 3 opponenets found themselves free in front of goals and pushed one past Brock.
PB's were Starting to panic but managed to hold it together for a victory.
Team IceBucket vs. Low Riders by Liam Golding
The last game of the evening saw Low Riders face off against TIB.
This turned out to be a competitive game with both sides having equal portions of possession, creating a few chances each.
The only goal of the game came early in the second half when the Low Riders' keeper was caught with the ball out of goals, letting Mel Kohler cross the ball to Liam Golding who put it into the goal.
A penalty to each side was conceeded as the game wound up to a fast finish, but TIB held out to take home full points.

The Unforgiven Power On
Wild Boars vs. The Uncos by Shannan Heinitz
Wildboars were off to a flying start Thursday night, scoring 3 goals against the Uncos in the first 10 minutes.
Two of those goals were scored by Andrew Boan's first and second broomball goals ever!
The Uncos stepped up their game after that and managed to hold off the Wildboars for the remainder of that half.
In the second half, Shannan Heinitz scored a goal and Cameron Parkes scored his second goal for the game, both after a scramble at the Unco's net.
The second half also saw Kirby Todd almost picj up her first assist.
Later, with just one minute to go, Josh Yabsley received the ball a few metres in front of the Unco's goal and took one of his famous power shot.
That shot went way too high, but Wildboars still had an outstanding game, winning 5-0.
The Unforgiven vs. The Replacements by Jason Solomon
Amazingly, The Unforgiven played with a full 6 players on the ice this week.
The Unforgiven had a strong defence in the first half, The Replacements couldn't quite manage to break through.
Two goals by Mitchell Tuza and Krys Lockhart saw the score at 4 - 0 at the end of the first half.
The Replacements managed to break through The Unforgiven defence with a goal in the second half by Daniel Gauci, but a further 2 goals scored by Mitchell Tuza and Dhyana Scorano saw the final score at 6 - 1.
Carney Clownz vs. Huskies by Jason Hall
Another good close game in C Grade.
Showing that the battle for the last two spots in the finals should be a close one for those teams in the middle of the table.
The game started out with the Huskies short on players again.
With only 4 players on the ice. Some good solid defence keeping the Carney Clowns out for this period though.
With the Huskies getting the full team on after about 3 minutes only to lose Tahlia for two minutes due to a penalty for pushing.
Once the Huskies got the full team on the ice the game started to swing their way.
Finally ending with a Glen Butler Flemming goal 16 minutes in. Nicely assisted by Ma |
