Preliminary Final: Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Emu Plain Wraith by Josh Burton
The Preliminary Final has arrived, with the Knights in the same position from last season up against the Wraith with the their first appearance this deep into the season. The Wraith are confident, as they knocked out last year's champions in the elimination final, while the Knights look to bounce back after a lacklustre encounter against the undefeated Dugongs. The action started fast & efficient for the Knights, as immediate possession & success as the first goal of the match was awarded to Josh via a massive hand pass/defection according to the referee. The Knights continued to pile on the pressure with the Wraith finding ways to get out on the counter. Unfortunately for the Wraith, the defence started to break in the last stages of the first half, as space aplenty opened to allow the captain, Bec, her first goal in god knows how long, for a 2-0 lead heading into half time. After the break, the action began to slow, & the Wraith gaining more possession, & the Knights were lucky to not concede. With time winding down, a breakdown in play, allowed a chance for the Wraith to take advantage, which they did via Nathaniel, to get the score to 2-1. Some tense moments in defence for the Knights, as the Wraith looked for the ball. The Knights tried to keep the ball away long enough from the Wraith to end the game, but a 3 on 1 defensive play allowed one more chance for the Wraith to get into Overtime. Some good defence by the Knights ended the game. Full Time 2-1 Knights. A better performance from the Knights heading into the Grand Final against the undefeated Dugongs next Tuesday night. A good performance from the Wraith, as the natural progression of this team has developed every season. Hopefully one step close next season for the Wraith. All signs point to next Tuesday night for the return of the Knights-Dugongs rivalry in the C Grade Grand Final.

Ravens and Rangers Win
Richmond Ravens vs. Werrington County Sonics by Dane Hansen
Ravens dominated Sonics with possession. Sonics played a tight box defence keeping Raves shots on goal to a minimum. The shots that penetrated the defence were skilfully neutralised by the goal keepers. Sonics counter attacked with fast breaks. Ben Robson scored a disallowed goal with a high broom. 0-0 at Full Time. Ravens 1-0 OT Peter Yabsley with a breakaway goal.

Parramatta Raptors vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
Both teams welcomed back their world's players for this match, which was evenly poised for the first half, with niether team creating any genuine chances on goal. The second half saw Rangers take control of possession and territory, which finally told on the scoreboard when Skye DeGruyter swiped the ball into the back of the net after a scramble in front of the Raptors goalmouth. Rangers soon doubled their advantage when Luke Simmonds capitalised on persistent Rangers attacking play. 2-0 Rangers at full time.

Penguins Finish With a Win
The Penguins vs. Ice DevilsB by James Kristof
Penguins finished the season on a high with back-to-back victories after defeating the Ice Devils 3-2. Tim Roffey opened the scoring for Penguins, before the Ice Devils hit back through (SOMEONE) to make it 1-1. Penguins took the lead again soon after, when Brenton Moore scored his first ever broomball goal, hammering the ball into the back of the net, 2-1 Penguins. Penguins scored again quickly through a long range effort from Scott Powell to make it 3-1, before Ice Devils scored late in the game to make it 3-2 at full time.

Rhinos vs. Tigers by Mark Ferrara
The Rhinos went up against the Tigers with the return of Jarad and Mark to the team after several weeks away. The first period was tough for the Rhinos with all of the play in their defensive zone for the first 15 minutes. The Tigers were unlucky not to capitlise on the back of some really good pressure. Late in the period, Ryan broke out of the Rhinos' half and had a shot on goal. The blocked shot was recovered by Mark and chipped over Kevin to put Rhinos in front. Halftime score 1-0 to the Rhinos. The second period was similar to the first - lots of pressure from the Tigers. However midway through the period, Alex managed to break out of the Rhinos' half with Jarad in support. Alex got a great cross to Jarad who put a low shot in, beating the keeper and making it 2-0. The Rhinos had to play defensively for the remainder of the half, ultimately denying the Tigers' countless number of goal attempts, many of which made it to the keeper. Final score 2-0. Thanks to the Tigers for an intense game.

C Division Finals - Week 16
C Finals Time
Elimination Final: Journeymen vs. Emu Plain Wraith by Matt Hellyer
For the first time in their history, Wraith made the C grade finals. Three wins and a draw placed them fourth behind Dugongs, Knights and Journeymen, but in front of Druids and Ice Devils. That in itself was a great achievement, but tonights game was a step up again. The C grade elimination final saw Wraith take on Journeymen. In their first game this season, Wraith went down seven goals to none. The playing field was levelled considerably with Wraith fielding 11 players and Journeymen only mustering seven, with Wraiths shortfall in skill and experience made up for by the sheer amount of raw energy from the bench. As with their previous encounter (which resulted in a one all draw), the two teams were quite evenly matched with possession throughout the game characterised by equally long periods in each others defensive halves. A couple of breakaways from both sides threatened to break the deadlock, but each sides keeper denied the other team the lead in every case. Wraith carried out the pre-game instructions from the captain to great effect. Dont get sent off (which happened four times last time), box up the slot in defence and keep the subs quick. To the contrary, this time Journeymen were the ones to be penalised, with send offs for tripping leaving them a man down twice. Even so their defence was impenetrable and they suffered so ill effects as a result. Nil all was the full time result and so five minutes of overtime were entered into, with the six sideline supporters for Wraith becoming increasingly vocal as the clock wound down and the pressure mounted. Both teams had some exceptionally close attempts at goal, with some great hand saves from Ashlyn outside the D for Wraith and a shot from Matt that slipped past the Journeymen defenders only to clip the outside edge of the goal posts and rebound away. When the time expired again still with no result, sudden death was entered into with exhaustion setting in for both teams. It was another ten minutes or so before victory was achieved, when a shot by Nathan Hodge from in the slot deflected off Ashlyns leg straight into the empty net after 55 minutes of scorelessness. A more evenly matched game hasnt been played in C grade for quite some time it could have easily gone either way. Well done to Journeymen who were in the game from beginning to end despite their lack of players. Final score Wraith 1-0 against Journeymen in over over time.

Preliminary Final: Dugongs vs. Knights Who Say Broomball by Scott Powell
After the nailbiting conclusion of the Elimination final, the Knights and Dugongs faced off for the second week in a row. The Dugongs narrowly escaping with a 1 goal victory, hoping to do the same again. Like both regular season encounters, the game was quick and on target shots came a dime a dozen. Both teams defences were tested and up to the challenge, the ball getting a workout in the midfield. After a number of runs throughout the half, Aaron opened the scoring with less than a minute before the break, pouncing on his own deflected shot and slotting it over the keepers shoulder. Dugongs 1-0 at the half. Second half was more of the same, with the Dugongs larger bench wearing down the Knights stoic defense. Dugong Mikeala deciding that Josh was not allowed to pass her stemmed attempted break after break. Joel scoring his fourth goal in two weeks after making a break deep from his own half to give the Dugongs a 2-0 lead. Knights raised the pressure, but were unlucky not to find the back of the net, the Dugongs holding on and breaking their finals hoodoo. Thanks to the knights for another good hit-out. Dugongs looking forward to seeing the Knights or the Wraith in the Grand Final.

Late Season win For Ice Devils
Tigers vs. Ice Devils by Josh Burton
Tonight's match was between the Ice Devils & the Tigers. With both teams looking for valuable points heading into the finals & a history of close encounter, tonight looked to be no different. With the action close, both teams looked for develop chances. Both teams had chances, with shots flying everywhere but in the goal. The closest chance was a goal via. a chest pass into goal by Ice Devils. Full Time 0-0 Overtime, was more of a stalemate, until the last minute, where persistence paid off, with a goal to Reese 1-0 Ice Devils in Overtime.

Dugongs Go Undefeated
Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Dugongs by Scott Powell
Final match of the regular season saw the Knights and the Dugongs facing off, the game to have a huge impact on the final positions for both teams. With the full rink once again available for use, both teams burst out the gates hoping to utilise their speed to give them the advantage. After 6 minutes the Dugongs had the first points of the night when Joel had a shot deflected by a defender straight into the goals. Knights hit back moments later when Joshs break ended with a cross that was flicked past the keeper. 2 minutes later the Knights had the lead when Josh once again ended a fast break with a goal. The game had another twist when Joel struck with his second of the night and the teams went in 2-2 at the break. The second half got off with a bang, Joel capping his hat trick early in the half, the Dugongs with a narrow 3-2 lead. Both teams continued to throw everything at the goals, Larissa even putting her chesticles on the line to shut down a Knights break, but neither side could get the ball past their respective keepers, the Dugongs winning a second incredibly tight game against the Knights. Thanks to the Knights for a good tough game on the eve of the finals.

B Division - Week 16
Tigers 3-1 over Rhinos
Rhinos vs. Tigers by Ryan Findlayson
Rhinos, with the Ferrara brothers away on national duty, were a little light on numbers, and Tigers were hoping to take advantage of this. Tigers starting very strongly, creating a multitude of opportunities early on. However, only a few shots were on target, and that which were, were deflected away nicely by the Rhinos keeper. While they hadn't scored, Tigers were still confident of a comfortable victory given the possession they had. But this changed when an aggressive turnover saw the Rhinos with a great chance on net. The first shot was saved, but Ryan Priestly made the diving chip shot off the rebound find the inside top of the goals. 1-0 to Rhinos at half time, and Tigers were shocked. The second half saw Tigers shooting become a bit more accurate, but some great defence and keeping by the Rhinos were holding Tigers scoreless for much longer than they were comfortable with. Eventually they would break the drought. Paul Stockbridge spraying a shot across the face of goal, but deflecting off somebody into the goal. The goal was initially disallowed for coming off an attackers body, but some great sportsmanship and honesty by the Rhinos defender admitting the ball had only come off her. So the goal awarded, and the scores level. Tigers still pushed hard, and eventually got a second, when Zac Law found some space up the middle, with the aid of a deflection off a defenders stick, was able to flick the ball into the top corner. Tigers then getting a third and final goal, when Ryan Findlayson gave a slightly mishit flick pass, that still found it's target, being Nick Kesby on the break away, who duly converted. So 3-1 to the Tigers at full time. Again, we applaud the Rhinos for their sportsmanship.

C Division - Week 14

DruidsC vs. Dugongs by Scott Powell
First game on the new booby trapped ice saw the Dugongs and the Druids face off. Druids started well with some probing runs and the first chance of the evening, but were quickly shut down. Dugongs pushed the offence but never looked settled, the Druids brushing aside wave after wave of attack. Both sides squandered their chances, the goalies with little to do but watch. With the first half dwindling to an insipid close, Scott slotted one past the keeper against the run of play to give the Dugongs a 1-0 lead at the break. The second half was more of the same, neither attacking side able to penetrate the oppositions defense, until Joel made a break down the sideline, crossing the ball to an open Nathan who slotted it in and doubled the Dugongs lead. With the final minutes trickling by, Mark pounced on his own deflected shot and slammed the ball into the net to give the Dugongs a 3-0 victory. Scoreline not a true indication of the match. Thanks to the Druids for a good clean game, hopefully we will have full use of the ice for the finals!

Journeymen vs. Knights Who say Broomball by Josh Burton
2-1 Win for Journeymen.

Witches Hats, Holes... It's Blacktown All Over again
Tigers vs. The Penguins by Ryan Findlayson
This night saw an added feature to playing surface, a hole in the ice down the scoreboard end, which was coned off with some witches hats. Players from both side playing sensibly (kudos to all involved) meant that the ball only entered this zone once during the game. Tigers pressed hard initially, creating about a dozen good scoring opportunities, but failed to convert any of these. Penguins then fought their way into the game creating chances of their own, but also could not convert. 0-0 at half time. Tigers broke the deadlock earlier in the second half. Zac Law falling, but still managing to flick the ball over the keeper. Penguins thought they had the equalizer when the ball initially stopped on the line, but then was juggled about by the keeper in an attempt to freeze the ball. During which the ball may, or may not have crossed the goal line. Either way, the referees ruled no goal. With less than a minute to go, Tigers sealed the game with a late goal to Paul Stockbridge, a one time shot off a great centre pass from Karen Bell. Thus 2-0 final score, and another win to the Tigers.

Wraith too good for Devils
Emu Plain wraith vs. Ice Devils by Sarah Hellyer
Wraith managed to hold possession for most of the game, giving them a definite advantage over the newest team to C Grade. With some good passing, Wraith racked up 3 goals in the first half, nicely spread out between Sam, Ben (with an assist from Rachel) and Nat. The Ice Devils had a few breakaways to keep Wraith on their toes, but unfortunately were not able to convert it to points on the board, despite some good opportunities. The score remained the same for the rest of the game, thanks to some great defence from both teams. Final score 3-0 to Wraith. Thanks Devils for a great game.

Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Glenmmore Park DruidsC by Josh Burton
Tonight's match is between the Knights and the DruidsC The competition was tight early, as both teams looked for the go-ahead goal Heading close to half time, the Knights took the lead via Damien. The second half turned into bit h teams not finding any success, as it was a defensive struggle. Full Time. Knights win 1-0

22-Oct-2012
A Division - Week 14
Raptors Over Sonics
Parramatta Raptors vs. Werrington County Sonics by Louis Sultana
Raptors against Sonics in the first game of the night. The last time these two teams met, the Raptors let a one goal lead slip in the last few minutes and eventually lost in overtime. This week, the Raptors were determined to keep their finals hope alive. Martin Sultana opened the scoring for the Raptors, slamming a ball in the top corner from close range. 1-0 HT. The second half was much more entertaining as the ice dried up. As Sonics pushed for the equaliser, a turnover found Louis Sultana on a breakaway. Louis missed with the forehand flick, but in great support, Dominique Glazier crashed the net and slammed the ball home. WELL DONE DOMINQUE! Raptors win 2-0.

Richmond Ravens vs. Glenmmore Park Druids by Joanne Hansen
These 2 teams have plenty of experience playing against each other and both know how to find the others weakness. Druids were first to score from a wide shot that deflected off a Raven defenders foot into the net. It didnt take long for Ravens to answer with a perfectly timed flat shot from Andrew Scoresby. Ravens created a number of opportunities but were shut down by Druid defence, who also had their fair share of ball time. Saxon put Druids into the lead again as he picked up a scramble, after having several shots on goal. As full time loomed it like Druids would take the win. Ravens had settled in a horse-shoe attack formation with Druids well positioned to hold them out. Dane Hansen had the ball when Druids seemed to part to give him a clear line to the goals. Dane belted the ball which flew over the keepers shoulders with only a few seconds to go in the game. In a nail-biting overtime Druids looked very close to scoring after a Ravens player was sent off for entering the goal crease. Saxon had the ball right in front of the net, Peter had lost his stick but still tried to dive to protect the goals. Somehow Saxons shot went wide and Ravens picked up the ball. As Ravens 4th player returned to the ice, he won the ball from an attacking Druid and passed it to Pete on the half way line. It looked as if Pete had a clear shot to the goal, but he patiently waited until both Saxon and Ryan were almost on him, then calmly pushed the ball past Ryans stick, across the ice into the net.

Raptors Firm as Favourites
Parramatta Raptors vs. Glenmmore Park Druids by Louis Sultana
A clash between the two first round winners was built as an epic encounter. However, the Raptors proved the stronger of the two with a convincing 4-1 victory. First goal coming in the first half from a Sam Boer backhander, assisted by Martin Sultana. 1-0 HT. Early in the second half, Daniel Wong scored after some strong forechecking from Josh Burton. Martin Sultana then grabbed the third goal of the night, again from strong forechecking by Josh Burton. The fourth goal for the Raptors came from Daniel Wong, assisted by Martin and Louis Sultana. Druids got one back late through Ryan Findlayson, but it was too late. Raptors 4-1.

C Division - Week 12
Wraith Hold Journeymen to a Draw
Dugongs vs. Ice Devils by Scott Powell
First C grade match of the night was played on a strange smooth surface that has been rarely sighted so far this year, both teams seemed to be at a loss with what to do without their snorkels and flippers. Dugongs started strongly, a shot pinging off the post from the drop, and they continued to keep the pressure on the Devils for most of the half. Devils defence doing a stellar job shutting down crosses and shots alike until Nathan opened the scoring after 10 minutes, finishing off a perfectly placed pass from Aaron with a cheeky flick to finally outmanoeuvre the keeper. Devils were looking good once they broke out of their half, but it was the Dugongs who scored next, a flick from Scott sent Joel into space, Joel shooting from a tight angle to double the lead. A third was added a few minutes later when Blake scored his first ever goal, following u his own blocked shot with a second attempt, that deflected off a Devils helmet. Dugongs 3-0 up at the break. Second half saw the Devils more adventurous with their attacking, and both sides had their share of the ball, both sides working hard in defence. Joel had another barnstorming run to have his second, but neither net was disturbed again, the Dugongs taking the win 4-0. Thanks to the Devils for another friendly, quick game.

Journeymen vs. Emu Plain wraith by Matt Hellyer
Wraith took on Journeymen tonight in what has traditionally been a one sided contest, with a score of 7-0 to Journeymen the result about a month and a half ago. This game was different however. Wraith played three players down, and Journeymen too were short, at least to begin with. The contest began in the usual fashion, a drop of the ball and a clash of brooms and then the battle was on. The first half was characterised by many good attempts at goal from both sides, with possession being maintained by each for long periods at a time. Of note too were the two send offs against Wraith for tripping. Particular praise must go to the Wraith keeper, Sarah, who managed to hold out against the onslaught during the penalty kills for a nil all result going into half time. The second half started off much the same as the first, but the scoring drought was broken when a weak pass from a Journeymen defender failed to reach their other one and Matt was able to intercept the ball and take off for a fast break at goal. Despite valiant attempts by each of the defenders and the keeper, Matt was able to slot the ball into the back of the net to put Wraith in the lead. The elation was short lasting however, with another send off occurring against Wraith and later a goal from Journeymens Tim to even the score line. With neither team able to secure victory with another goal, five minutes of overtime were played. This was even more intense than in regular time as the exhausted Wraith players battled just to hold onto the ball in their own half. A ball save inside the crease saw a fourth Wraith send off, leaving Wraith with only three to hold out against the tide of incoming Journeymen. A controversially close call came when Anke hand passed into the goal crease and then tapped the ball over the line with her stick, potentially sealing Wraiths fate. It was not be however, with the referee disallowing the goal because of the hand pass violation. Overtime expired without a decisive result, leaving neither team able to claim victory but for the battered Wraith team that was nearly just as good.

Rangers Outclass Ravens
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
Good tight game ending at 1-1. Druids goal lto Zac Law, Sonics to Jeff Ferrara. OT and Bec Davis with an intercept, break and goal. Druids OT winners.

Richmond Ravens vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
Another tight tussle between Rangers and Ravens last night, where Ravens the stronger but were unable to break through the Rangers defence. Ranges finished the half in control but couldn't convert, the first half ending 0-0. Rangers took control of the match early in the second half, Lisa Macklin scoring off of a Bryan Macklin pass. Ravens tried to step up the intensity, pulling the keeper as they tried to even up the match. Rangers' defence stayed tight, eventually sealing the match when Bryan Macklin broke away to slot home the winner into the open goal. 2-0 to Rangers.

B Division - Week 13

Tigers vs. Ice DevilsB by Josh Burton
The first B Grade match of the night put the Ice Devils across the ice from the Tigers. With finals spot implications at stake, a win was crucial. Ice Devils started the game with ascendancy, and took the possession game to the Tigers with attack after attack & Tigers produced save after save. The pressure finally produced as a shot rebounded and good reactions allowed for a goal for the Ice Devils via Anke. The rest of the half resulted in failed chances, as the pace started to wear on the players. The 2nd half, the message was clear for both teams. Tigers, to pressure & score, Ice Devils, to pressure & score. The connections on plays started to increase, as the defensive reactions became more crucial. Tigers were relentless with their attack, but the Ice Devils held for long enough with crucial saves, & some desperate to get the W. With Worlds fast approaching, the B Grade competition looks to open up with various teams getting their chances to cement their spot.

Wraith Grab a Win
Emu Plain Wraith vs. DruidsC by Sarah Hellyer
Tonight Wraith faced off against DruidsC. With both teams a little short on players, the play was fairly slow, and each side struggled to coordinate themselves in attack. However, Wraith did a slightly better job of holding the ball which resulted in the first goal of the game going to them when a nice assist by Matt gave Ben the chance to shoot. Druids didnt let it stay that way for long, though, and a nice flick from a Druids player saw the ball go past the players crowded around the net, and over the Wraith keepers shoulder. Having evened the score, Druids were keen to take the upper hand, but a break away by Matt led to a one-on-one with the keeper, and a flick of the ball to the top corner of the net left Druids trailing again. Determined not to let the game slip away, Druids persevered in their attack, getting a few chances, and finally slipped one in behind the keeper. Well into the second half, and both teams were fiercely trying to score again to seal the match. Wraith held most of the possession, but a solid defence by Druids kept them out. Eric from Wraith went for a big hit at one stage, taking out Ashlyn (playing for Druids) in his back swing as she subbed on. In the last five minutes of the game, Wraith finally succeeded in putting in another goal, courtesy of an assist by Ben and a shot by Nathan. Final score 3-2 to Wraith. Thanks Druids for a competitive and enjoyable game.

Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Ice Devils by Josh Burton
Tonight's last match was between the Knights and the Ice Devils. The action was mainly dominated in possession by the Knights, but couldn't get the go-ahead goal. Half way through the 1st half, a shot from Damien from a distance went through many legs and past the goalie for a Knights 1-0 lead. The game was marred by many controversial contact calls and non-calls, as both teams became side tracked. The Knights in the 2nd Half used the possession to work on connections, but became frustrated with the lack of on target shots and counter defence from Ice Devils. Full Time 1-0 Knights. A game where the result was evident, but was always close.

A Division - Week 12
Sonics and Rangers Complete OT Wins
Parramatta Raptors vs. Werrington County Sonics by Tim Brown
Raptors took the lead in this match, Sam Boer, showing some good skill to evade two defenders on the redline for a breakaway. Sonics equalised with only a few minutes left on the clock, Tim Brown making a break down the wing and shooting, the keeper making the save but the rebound dropping directly in front of a rampaging Jeff Ferrara finding the back of the net. Overtime, Sonics, Tim Brown, barely wins the draw to Dhyana Scarano on the right, she passed back to Kerry Baxter, both teams spreading across the redline. Kerry Baxter to Tim Brown who passes to Dhyana Scarano taking it over the redline and down the wing before dropping the ball back to Brown. Brown across to Baxter in the neutral zone, then across again to Andrew Chapman Switch in play to the other side of the rink. Chapman spots and passes to Dhyana Scarano having cut in to the faceoff circle unmarked she slots the ball home. Sonics win! Raptors unable to get a touch on the ball in the short minute and a half of OT.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
The first half was a fairly even contest, Rangers getting a lot of possession and creating opportunities in attack, and Druids countering well and looking to capitalise on loose passes from Rangers, however neither team could break the deadlock. 0-0 at halftime. Rangers again started strongly, only being denied by great keeping from Druids goalie, but it was the Druids who scored first after an unmarked Saxon Hooper pounced on an open ball in front of the Rangers goal, beating the Rangers goalie one-on-one with a low, hard shot. Rangers stepped up their intensity even further, eventually tying up the game after Tash Sheaves slotted in an equaliser for her first A grade goal, send the game into OT. Bryn Sheperd won the game for Rangers early into the OT period with a low shot that pierced through two Druids players, 2-1 to Rangers.

Tigers Put 3 on Penguins
The Penguins vs. Tigers by Ryan Findlayson
In what really was quite an even match, the final score didn't really reflect the true nature of the game. Tigers scoring first through Stocky on a break, next through Nick Kesby who cleaned up the spoils of a neat turn around a defender and shot by Leanne Irmisch, and finally through Sally Yabsley-Bell who got a tip on a slightly wide Zac Law shot. This was all in the first half. Second half saw Penguins have plenty of opportunities. But some great keeping by Kevin Chen, kept them scoreless. So a 3-0 victory to the Tigers.

Druids Stun Ravens
Grand Final: Glenmore Park Druids vs. Richmond Ravens by Saxon Hooper
Richmond Ravens have had the wood over the Druids for the last two seasons. In fact their winning streak was at 7 including multiple 3-0 drummings, the latest in the Qualifying final only a week ago. A change in game plan was needed for Druids, deeper, tighter defence and allow no fast breaks. Also an attempt to retain more possession, not allowing Ravens the freedom they had in the last 7 games. Of course this meant a tight first half with few chances for Druids. Right on half time Damo Colyer got a break and with the seconds running out, had a hit and hope on goals. The ball dipped last second and squeezed through the keepers five hole and rolled slowly into the net. Against the run of play, Druids up 1-0 and grabbing some much needed confidence. The second half saw Ravens throw everything at Druids, good possession, good movement and good shots. However the Druid D kept turning up and repelling all attacks. With only 2 minutes left Ravens pulled the keeper, however despite all the pressure and shots on goal right to the last second Druids hung on. 1-0 Win for Druids snapping a 7 game losing streak (good time to do it), unfortunately for Ravens their third straight Runners Up Trophy. So Druids A Grade Champions for Winter 2012, their first title since Winter 2010.

Finally for Ice Devils
Grand Final: Ice Devils vs. Rhinos by Josh Burton
The grand finals is upon us for the Winter season (and on a saturday as well), with the B Grade Finals, the main-event of the evening. It is a rematch from last season C Grade Grand Final between the Knights and Rhinos, with Ice Devils players from the Knights holding bittersweet memories about that fateful day. With the pre-match confidence/tallking completed, the Rhinos at full strength and Ice Devils down without Reese, Ice Devils knew to step up with the speed of the Rhinos. The strategy was defence early, but Rhinos scored within 5 minutes, via their key players of Jeff, Wheeler and Ryan, that strategy was thrown out. The possession and chances swayed between both teams until Marc stepped up with a goal for Ice Devils to lock the scores at 1-1. A penalty against Rhinos, allowed for more attack by Ice Devils, but to no avail with food defence from Rhinos Half Time 1-1. Ice Devils, went on the attack after half time, which proved a masterstroke as Buckley had the go-ahead goal for a 2-1 lead. Not to be outdone, Rhinos sent wave after wave of counter attacks and structured attacks, but each time, the defence, & can't stress this enough, the goalie defence was up to the task. With some nervous possessions late in the game, Ice Devils were trying to find a way to end their trouble, but Rhinos forced the issue With a save in the last seconds, forced a face-off with less than 2 seconds gave the Rhinos one last chance, but the ball fell out of reach for a shot. Ice Devils win 2-1. A good defensive effort by both teams, with the rivalry well and truly established between these two teams for as long as they want. To the Rhinos, congratulations on a great year, runners-up in B Grade with the elements of their C Grade playing crucial roles to their B Grade Title bid. To the Ice Devils, a good win, with every player this season having a role to play and all stepped up when their names were called. We all look forward to next season for a possible rematch? Or just both teams and the rest of B Grade stepping their competition once again.

Journeymen Surprise Dugongs
Grand Final: The Journeymen vs. Dugongs by Mitchell Burrett
Righto, grand final time and the ice is populated with fresh faces. Both the Journeymen and the Dugongs making their first grand final appearance, both eager to come out victorious. With their last fast-paced and hard-hitting encounter fresh in their minds, both teams were looking to bring the same intensity and focus to the final. Notable highlights from the first half included goals being scored, players running from end to end, referees not paying attention and confusing calls resulting in what can best be described as ice-tag, with players from both teams leaving and joining the ice as we attempted to determine which team had the advantage. By the time the half wrapped up, the Journeymen led 4-1, with Tim and Darren scoring for the J'men and Nathan putting the first in for the Dugongs. The second twenty kicked off in a similar fashion, with the Dugong's offence becoming more focused in the hope of closing the gap on the board. Whilst a collision with the Journeymen keeper left Dugong Scott nursing a sore knee and post-match crutches (sorry Scotty!), it did nothing to dampen the focus and determination of the minor premiers. However, unable to convert momentum into points and falling to the offensive stylings of Lukes Monaghan and Spiteri, the game ended 6-1 in favour of the Journeymen. Thus wraps up another season of C-grade. Thanks to the Dugongs for their focus, sportsmanship and competitive nature throughout the season, and we look forward to jousting again in the new season.

Dugongs Get By wraith
Dugongs vs. Emu Plains Wraith by Scott Powell
The ice had dried somewhat for the second game of the evening, but the greasy conditions meant it would be difficult work for both teams. Wraith pounced from the drop and Matt Hellyer made an immediate break, only to be denied by the head of stand-in keeper Nathan, but he was unable to stop the follow up shot, the Wraith taking a 1-0 lead with less than a minute of gametime gone. The Wraith dominated early play, but the Dugongs held firm and started to claw their way back into the match. After some breaks and shots from both sides, it was late in the first half when Joel opened the scoring for the Dugongs with a nice shot from a tight angle to level the scores. No further work for the duty team, the halftime score remaining 1-1. The Dugongs leapt into action when play resumed, Aaron feeding Nathan the ball, before passing in to Joel who finished another tight shot to double his tally for the evening and give the Dugongs a 2-1 lead. This spurred the Dugongs on, and with their numbers advantage, they started wearing the Wraith down, possession in the second half favouring the swimming mammals, the Wraith keeper denying shot after shot. Scott gave the Dugongs a 3-1 lead after a high flick pass took a horrible deflection from a defenders hand and snuck over the keepers shoulder, Scott keeping his theme of scoring a goal thanks to terrible deflections for every real goal he scores. Nathan had his chances to further extend the lead but were unable to outsmart the Wraith keeper who was brilliant. The Wraith amped up their attack in the final minutes and were denied a nice last second shot by Blake. Dugongs with a hard earned 3-1 win. Thanks to the Wraith for another tough and tight game, the scoreboard could have easily shown the reverse score tonight.

Dugongs on a Good Run
Journeymen vs. Ice DecilsC by Mitchell Burrett
Taking to the ice a little later than usual, the first C-grade match of the evening saw the Journeymen, who were seeking redemption following back-to-back losses to the Dugongs, taking on the season newbies, the Ice Devils. Much like our encounters with the Wraith, our match with the Ice Devils was a lot more competitive than the score suggests. Both teams started strong, with Journeymen Anke, Tim and Darren sharing goals heading into the break, leaving the score at 4-0 after the first twenty. As the game resumed, the Journeymen continued their display, with Darren, Tim and Luke all notching up additional goals. As the clock counted down, the Ice Devils valiantly tried to close the gap, but to no avail. 7-0 was where the game ended, in favour of the Journeymen. Thanks to the Devils for a good match.

Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Dugongs by Scott Powell
The late, late game of the night saw the Knights against the Dugongs. Knights came firing out the blocks, eager to take an early lead, but were denied by nifty keeping. After the initial blitz ran its course, the game settled down a tithe, both teams happy to hold the ball and wait for any opportunity, yet it was from fast breaks that both teams looked most likely to score. With both teams unable to penetrate the others defence, it was 0-0 at the break. Second half started much the same as the first, with the Knights pressing early, before the Dugongs were able to claw their way back into the match. After a lengthy period of possession, Nathan took advantage of some tired defenders to push a loose ball past the keeper and give the Dugongs the lead. With the Dugogns looking to press their advantage, and the Knights for an equaliser the game went into overdrive, both teams running hard, the final few minutes were frantic for the Dugongs defence, but they managed to hold on for the narrowest of wins. Another great game between the two sides, can't wait to be run ragged again in another couple of weeks.

Raptors Upset Ravens
Richmond Ravens vs. Parramatta Raptors by Louis Sultana
Raptors up against the red hot Ravens in the first A-Grade game of the night. The game was fast and at times, heated with a few people spending some time in the penalty box. Despite both teams having plenty of chances, no team could find the back of the net. In Overtime, Ravens dominated posession until Raptors forced a turnover. Daniel Wong found Louis Sultana in the centre of the ice, Louis took the ball over half way and lifted the ball over the Ravens defence to score the game winner. Raptors 1-0 OT.

Mens Division - Week 1
Druids and Raptors With First Up Wins
Penrith City Rangers vs. Parramatta Raptors by Louis Sultana
A new Mens competition and new teams had all the players buzzing. Raptors (plus feeder team Ice Devils) were up against the Rangers (plus feeder teams Penguins & Dugongs) with both teams having some help from the Ravens A-Grade team. Raptors had the majority of posession but the last pass was slightly off on every occassion. 0-0 at HT and the Rangers were still in this one. Second half looked like it too may be scoreless, until Louis Sultana found himself on a breakaway. Louis finishing the run with a left hand thingy, just squeezing past the keeper. Raptors started to forecheck aggressively and a turnover found Marc Kuipers in soem space. Marc passed the ball to a flying Sam Boer, sam making no mistake and firing the ball into the back of the net. Raptors dropped off in the final minute and Rangers were able to get one back through Mark Rulewski, but it was too little too late. Raptors 2-1.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
Druids with a team in each grade filled out their roster with two complete lines. Sonics with feeder team Rhino's not present were undermanned. Sonics started well but tired which allowed the Druids to gain control. 2-0 Druids in the end.

Dugongs Complete the Dounle
Emu Plains Wraith vs. Knights Who Say Broomball by Josh Burton
Tonight's first match was between the rejuvenated Knights, back to full strength against the surprise packet Wraith. The feeling out process started fairly to the usual pace, with both teams getting the attacks in early. The Knights gaining a bit of attacking possession which resulted in their first goal by way of the returning Pete. Though he paid for his goal, as he was a bit winded in the process after scoring. The action went back to the normal see-sawing action we have come to expect from both teams this season. The unofficial 'coach' for the Wraith pleaded for Wraith to push forward and they responded in the late bits of the first half, and early in the second. A unlucky break for the Wraith resulted in the second goal for the Knights via Josh, as at the faceoff, they was no pressure on the ball before the shot by Josh, as 2 players from Wraith were subbing, and 'offside' in the process. The goal stood after a discussion between the referees. The game still had action packed, and confidence dropping moments for the Knights, as the Wraith put the best effort for close the difference, but the Knights held on. Full Time 2-0 Knights. A good tough win from the Knights, with another 40 minute effort to counter the ever-improving Wraith team.

Journeymen vs. Dugongs by Scott Powell
With the result of the return leg of the grand final replay double header obvious by the author of the match report being the same two weeks in a row, the game itself was vastly different from the opening match. Journeymen looking for revenge and the Dugongs trying to clean sweep the series. With the ice less greasy than previous weeks, the match was faster and smoother. Dugongs opening the scoring after 5 minutes when a series of long range bombs paid off, Scott putting one into the bottom left corner to take a 1-0 lead. Both sides were attack focused, Dugongs trying to get players on the post, Journeymen using their speed to make their breaks. Neither tactic worked and the halftime score remained 1-0. Journeymen found the equaliser they come close to earning early in the second half, a break lead to a one-on-one with the keeper, and was deftly flicked into the goals, 1-1 with most of the half left to play. Once again the game fell into a rhythm of attack based plays, with the Dugongs superior numbers slowly wearing down determined Journeymen defence, Bree and Mitchy doing a stellar job in front of the posts, and Mik, Elicia and Sarah matching them for the Dugongs. The deadlock was broken with only minutes remaining after Mark chased his own shot down, shimmied through the defence before giving Nathan an unblocked shot on goals against the wrong-footed keeper, which he duly put away, giving the Dugongs the smallest of leads. Journeymen threw everything at the Dugongs defence in an attempt to level the match, but were unable to find the last touch numerous times, Dugongs holding on for a second victory in as many weeks. A finals clash between the two looks likely, and hopefully the Dugongs can break their finals hoodoo against their bogey team. Thanks for a great midseason contest Journeymen.

2nd hat-trick in a row for Andrew Scoresby
Richmond Ravens vs. Werrington Sonics by Joanne Mitchell
A depleted Sonics bravely lined up against the so-far undefeated Ravens side. 40 minutes later they staggered off the ice. In between these times the crowd saw a beautiful display of team work from Ravens. Andrew Scoresby gave a lesson on how to finish, bagging his 2nd hat-trick in as many weeks. Of particular note was his exceptional 2nd goal of the night. Dane Hansen smashed a pass through to Andrew in the sweet spot, unfortunately the pass was hip height and too far to the left. Facing away from his goals, Andrew expertly bunted the ball down, took a quick look over his shoulder, and fired his back hand missile to put the ball straight past the keeper. The other 4 goals of the night were great team goals, with the finishing touches by Pete, Andrew (2) and Jo. The first goal went to Jo, from a push pass by Andrew. A nice shot over the keepers shoulder into the top corner. Pete finished a 1-2 pass set up by Dane. A gallant effort was put in by the Sonics players, who were missing some of their key players, and who also had no subs.

Parramatta Raptors vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
Rangers started slowly against Raptors, but after managing to quash all attacking raids by the Raptors, Rangers took control of the game midway through the first half, dominating possession and territory, which eventually yielded a goal to Bryan Macklin who slipped the ball past the goalie after a scrap in front of the goal mouth. Rangers looked the more likely to score again of the two teams, but both defences remained strong for the rest of the match, Rangers running out 1-0 victors.

Ice Devils in OT
DruidsB vs. Ice DevilsB by Josh Burton
Tonight's first match of the evening is the eagerly anticipated match-up between the Ice Devils and the Druids. With the last match resulting in a draw after overtime, both teams were looking for a win. The action was fast paced from the outset, much like every contest between these teams. The Druids took advantage of the fatigue, with the Ice Devils down numbers, with the first goal of the match with a lucky bounce into Sarah's path, allowed the Druids to take a 1-0 advantage. The Ice Devils got their second wind, in the final half, which allowed for more movement with the ball, and more cover in defence. This lead to a counter attack with resulted in Josh scoring the equaliser. Much of the action in the final minutes was nullified by both teams, until Ice Devils though they had their chance, but was taken away by a penalty in the last 2 minutes. The Druids were unlucky in those final 2 minutes with chance after chance stopped. Full Time 1-1. Overtime...again. The Druids went for their chance early and fell just short, but Ice Devils lead a counter attack through Marc, who got ahaead of Saxon just enough to lead the ball off the post for the overtime winning goal. Full Time after overtime 2-1 Ice Devils. Ice Devils get the win, and are grateful for the extra point on the table.

Rhinos vs. The Penguins by Mark Ferrara
The Rhinos were keen to get a win against the Penguins after losing in overtime in their last encounter. First half saw a number of good opportunities for both teams but the Rhinos got first points. Working out of their defensive third, Ryan passed to Mark who put a ball up the middle of the ice to a running Jeff. He outpaced two defenders and left the sharp-angled shot just late enough to beat the keeper, striking it into the top right corner of the net. The play in the remainder of the first half was back and forth with many good opportunities coming from breakaways. This resulted in some cautious play from both teams. The constant threat of a breakaway meant wary offensive players rarely pushed high enough and there was little pressure on defenders when they had the ball. First half score 1-0 Rhinos. Second half saw the Penguins come out invigorated. They kept the Rhinos pinned down in their own half for the better part of the second half and made Matt the keeper work overtime. This intensified when Ryan was penalised for an obstructive fall late in the half. Unfortunately for the Penguins, they were penalised for the same thing moments later. Ultimately, the Rhinos held onto their lead to win 1-0. Thanks Penguins for a challenging and fast paced game.

Dugongs Reverse Grand Final Result
Dugongs vs. Journeymen by Scott Powell
The first of the grand final rematch double header commenced with the new and improved Dugongs facing off against a smaller than usual Journeymen, the Dugongs looking to make amends for the trouncing/walloping/thrashing/demolition/insert verb here that was handed to them in the final of last seasons comp. With the Dugongs finally at full strength with il-capitaine Scott back from his broken hand and Elicia back from giving birth to the worlds biggest baby, the Dugongs knew they would need to play fast and keep fresh to triumph. The first half saw the Dugongs keep the Journeymen trapped in their defensive third for large chunks of time, before the Journeymen would mount a break-out. Dugongs were unable to maintain attacking pressure for long, and the Journeymens breakouts were shut down for a 0-0 scoreline at the break. Second half saw the Dugongs start to string some shots back to back as their new double squad was able to slowly sap the strength of the reigning champions, it took time and lots of running around before Joel cleaned up the scraps of a long range bomb, smashing the ball to the top right hand corner past Mitchs outstretched paw. With nine minutes of play left, the Journeymen and Dugongs normal play style between the two teams resumed; fast break countered with a fast break. However with fuel tanks running on near empty and Bree deciding that the wall must be punished for hitherto unknown reasons, the Dugongs put a second goal past ol Mitchy with Nathan finishing with a nice flick from a through ball by Sarah to take a 2-0 lead. The final few minutes saw shots from both teams requiring their respective keepers attention, but the back of the net was hindered no more, Dugongs taking a 2-0 victory in the regular season. Now for both sides to back up for the return game next week, hopefully the Dugongs can break their habit of beating the Journeymen during the season, before getting beaten by them in the finals. (Please? Its our turn now, surely?)

DruidsC vs. Ice Devils by Peter Cook
The two relatively new teams to C grade faced off in what turned out to be a good clean, competetive game. The Druids started off the scoring with a nice shot by Ashleigh off a pass from Alex. A break by Pete and a deftly hit left hand shot put the Druids up 2 - 0. Our keeper James kept out a number of determined shots by the Devils before a great pass by Chris saw Ashleigh claim her second goal. Tina and Sarah kept the Devils quiet with some solid defence before some great lead up work saw the Devils score off a deflection. Druids 3 - 1. Some excellent keeping by the Devils repelled a concerted attack by Chris, Joel and Owen who peppered the goals in the final minutes to notch up a great team effort by the Druids to win. Thanks to the Ice Devils for a great game.

A Division - Week 8
Ravens Over Druids
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Richmond Ravens by Joanne Mitchell
The game started on the worst ice that Penrith rink has seen for a long time. Both teams began the first half conservatively, biding their time until the ice improved. As some of the puddles disappeared the ice became greasier and even harder to run on, if that is possible. Druids launched an attack late in the first half, with Saxon managing to catch his defender in a lunge, expertly shooting a ball into the bottom corner of the net, under the keepers arm. The 2nd half saw Ravens get their act together, with 3 goals scored by Andrew Scoresby. Ravens perfected the art of the accidental fake, and made sure that they supported each player closely, picking up loose balls and converting these into goals. The first goal was a rocket into the top corner of the net, from a wide pass from Dane Hansen. The 2nd goal was a display of team work after Jo Hansen ran the ball to the mouth of the goals and flicked it straight back to Craig, who was following closely. Craig didnt quite manage to make the net, but Andrew was close at hand to clean it up. Andrews third goal was a well timed deflection of Peters Yabsleys shot/ pass. Both teams did well to last the game on fairly unbearable ice.

Werrington County Sonics vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
Sonics opened the scoring early on in the match, converting a fast break opportunity. Rangers hit back soon after however, Luke Simmonds scoring on a powerplay to even the match up at 1-1. Rangers then took the lead late in the first half when Bryn Shepherd hammered the ball into the back of the net from an acute angle. 2-1 Rangers at halftime. Sonics started strongly in the second half, tieing the match up again after Jason Wheeler hit a spectacular backhanded volley, which bounced in front of the keeper and over his shoulder into the top corner. The match looked headed to go into overtime until Bryan Macklin gave Rangers the lead, hitting the ball low and hard from behind the goal line, which then ricocheted off a Sonics defender and into the back of the net. 3-2 Rangers at full time.

Tigers v DruidsB II
Tigers vs. DruidsB by Ryan Findlayson
This was a repeat of a match up last week, and the third time these two teams had met this season. First game went to OT, second one looked like it was going to OT but a buzzer beating super goal got the Tigers home. So it was expected to be another tight battle between these two teams. The slippery ice made for a very slow game, and this seemed to suit the Druids. Tigers struggling to create opportunities, but working hard in defence to keep Druids scoreless. So 0-0 at halftime. Tigers amped it up in the second half, quickly moving into attack, forcing the Druids into a panicked clearance that was picked up by Ryan, who quickly passed through to stocky on the post, and was able to put it away on the second attempt to give the Tigers the lead early in the second half. The game went back to it's first half form, with the Druids getting the better attacking possession. This was aided by a slashing penalty against Ben Yabsley-Bell that gave Druids the power play. Tigers again fought hard in defence, and kept Druids scoreless. Once back to full strength, Tigers had another shot at attacking. A perfectly executed one-two from Ryan and Sally got the break over half way, the last defender was drawn, and ball passed to Nick Kesby in support, who fumbled the trap, but recovered with a one handed diving chip that found the far top corner of the net. Tigers then looked dominant, creating many more opportunities, and eventually converting with Ryan passing to Stocky running in supported who swept it in to the top far corner to give Tigers a 3-0 victory.

Ice DevilsB vs. The Penguins by Josh Burton
Tonight's last match was between the Ice Devils and the Penquins. With the Ice Devils down players, the battle for the remaining players to win was an uphill challenge from the start. The action started fairly even with both teams looking for chances. Both teams developed good defence strategy, as shots were few and far between each other. With the message at half time to continue on, the fate of the game changed early in the second, with a pass from Bryn to Josh who got pass the Penquins defence on the left for the first goal of the night. The second goal set up off an attempted icing, as The Ice Devils regathered, forced the defence right and space opened for Marc, as he welcomed himself back with a goal. The defence stepped up and fatigue set in, made the game slow down for the latter of the second half, but Josh got a counter chance from Marc, and avoided Pete enough to get the third. Penguins, got the chance to break the whitewash, and took it, with the full time, Ice Devils 3 - Penguins 1

C Division - Week 6
Wraith Grab a Win
Emu Plains Wraith vs. Ice DecilsC by Ben Hellyer
Tonight an undermanned Wraith faced off against a team of very new Ice Devils. Wraith had a couple of key players that helped them maintain much of the possession. Without them, it would have proved a harder match. The Ice Devils also were down a key player and are the newest team to the comp. Throughout the game Emu Plains Wraith dominated possession, staying strong in attack. The Wraith team were low on numbers and so borrowed a couple of C grade players. One of them, Luke Spiteri, assisted in the first goal. The ball came across to the goals and Ben Hellyer was able to deflect the ball off his stick straight in. A second goal was scored by Ben after two attempts at goal, assisted by Nathan Hodge. A third and final goal came when Matt Hellyer and Sam Padgett passed back and forth down the centre. Matt flick passed the ball over a defender straight to Sam who received the pass and slotted it past the goalie. Despite the 3-0 win to Wraith, a number of break throughs of their defence by Ice Devils players showed they were not invulnerable and it was only some quick drops back that prevented dangerous shots at goal from succeeding. A good game played by both teams, with Wraith able to come up with the win.

Knights Who Say Broomball vs. DruidsC by Josh Burton
Tonight's second match was between the Druids and the Knights, who were riding a good wave of form as of late. With 5 players, the Knights were fighting an uphill battle. The action started out slow, with both teams looking to work the ball around. With chances starting to flow, Knights took the lead via Josh, with a good breakaway/second chance goal to gain the lead. Both teams had chances, but none were on target. With the message for the Knights to hold the ball, the message sunk in as chances and space opened for both teams to chances. Fatigue kicked in, as defence became the main form of attack. With the minutes ticking away, the Druids hoped for a tying goal, but good dfence helped keep the score the same. Full Time - Knights 1-0 A good, gutsy win by the Knights, with the Druids unlucky to score late. Knights have a bye, and hope for a full team when thy return against the Wraith, while Druids look forward to the Ice Devils next week

Rangers Take out Druids
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
Druids opened the scoring early on in the match when Saxon Hooper monstered the ball through Rangers defence and goalie, who was screened perfectly by Bec Davis. Rangers hit back soon after however, when Mark Rulewski sent the ball to the bottom corner with backhanded shot to tie things up at 1-1. The second half started well for Rangers as Luke Simmonds received the ball off Lisa Price in the Rangers half, before running the length of the ice to beat the Druids goalie with a brilliant one-on-one shot. Allie Hewitt hit back soon after for Druids with a ridiculous no-look shot with her back turned to the Rangers goalkeeper. The match looked headed to overtime until Luke Simmonds got his second goal of the game with only minutes remaining, hammering home a long-range bomb to give Rangers a 3-2 victory.

B Division - Week 6
Tigers v Druids I
Tigers vs. DruidsB by Ryan Findlayson
On ice that felt more slippery than usual, this game was going to be about taking opportunities when they presented themselves. Last time these two teams met, the game went into OT, and the signs in the first half pointed to the same thing happening this time. Druids B with the slightly better opportunities, but couldn't convert and so 0-0 half time. More of the same in the second half, and still 0-0 with 10 seconds remaining until Zac Law intercepted a pass in the Druids half, proceeded to break through, and draw the keeper to one side, before performing a "Super Goal" (or should that be "Super Unco Goal") by missing hitting a flick shot that was missing the goals wide. But Zac miss hit it that bad that the ball had unsusual amount of spin, and was travelling slow enough that it somehow curved in with 1 second left on the clock. So Tigers get a lucky win 1-0.

Rhinos vs. The Penguins by James Kristof
Penguins scored first early on in the match when Daniel Wong slipped past the Rhinos' defence and sent a forehand flick shot past their goalkeeper, and took a 1-0 into halftime. Rhinos hit back early in the second half however, with Ryan Priestly pouncing on a pass from almost point-blank range to tie things up at 1-1. The game headed to OT where Tim Roffey won the game for Penguins after winning a sprint to a loose ball in front of the Rhinos goal, sliding stick-first to guide the ball into the net and give Penguins their second win of the season.

Big Wins All Round
Dugongs vs. Ice Decils C by Scott Powell
The newest team to the C grade comp faced off for the first time against the Dugongs. Not sure what to expect from their opposition, both teams had hesitant starts. Joel made a great break and finished with a strong shot to give the Dugongs a 1-0 lead 5 minutes in. Stand in captain Nathan doubled the lead a few minutes later. Mark opened his seasons account with a scorcher with a few minutes left in the half. Aaron finished the half with another blistering run ending in a goal. Great keeping from the girls kept the Devils scoreless in the first half, Dugongs leading 4-0 at the half. Devils came out all guns blazing in the second half, tapping in a deflected shot to reduce the deficit to 4-1. Larissa followed on from her own break to score her first ever broomball goal in her third game and Aaron scored his seconds in the dying stages of the game. Dugongs 6-1 at fulltime, but the Devils showed a lot of skill and flair, and Im sure will be looking for revenge the next time we play.

Journeymen vs. Emu Plains Wraith by Mitchell Burrett
After watching the Dugongs systematically dismantle the Ice Devils 6-0, the Journeyment took to the ice looking to atone for last week's loss to the Knights, when they took on the Wraith. With both teams sporting additional players, the lineup was drawn, the bench was set and the game began. The feeling out process from both teams consumed the first half, with Tim being denied an early goal, but gaining his redemption going into the break, leaving the Journeymen ahead 1-0. With the second twenty came a Journeymen goal...and another...and lather, rinse, repeat. As the clock ticked down, Tim, Darren and Luke all had points against their name. With the final buzzer drawing ever closer, Tim scored his final for the game, giving the Journeymen the W with lucky number 7. Final score 7-0 to the defending champs, who head into another bye next week before back-to-back grand final rematches against the Dugongs. As always, thanks to the Wraith for a game that was far more competitive and challenging than the score might suggest.

Shut out for Kieran vs Raptors
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Parramatta Raptors by Saxon Hooper
Druids have had a mixed start to the season and needed a win to get back opn track. In their way Raptors. Druids with some new focus started well maintaining good pressure early but with no result. 0-0 first half. Into the second and Druids on the board with a lucky deflection over the keeper. Shortly later Matt Hellyer broke into the attacking half drawing defenders before laying the ball back for Saxon Hooper to one time into the roof of the net. 2-0 win for Druids.

Richmond Ravens vs. Penrith City Rangers by Joanne Mitchell
Ravens showed great form, playing their standard patient style with plays set up from defence, with a solid win over Rangers. They were able to consistently set up in their attacking third, with opportunities naturally created. Rangers had several break away opportunities through Luke, Liam and Mark, but they werent quick enough to get through awesome defence-women Lauren Goulden and Sara Roffey. The score line didnt reflect the effort put in by Rangers, with Ravens bagging the win 4-0. Goals to Pete, Dane, Andrew, and a rocket fired from James in defence.

Rhinos Reverse Last Season's GF Result vs Ice Devils
Rhinos vs. Ice Devils B by Mark Ferrara
The Ice Devils-Rhinos rivalry continued tonight and everyone in the ice palace was fixated on the drop, keen to watch another B-grade final rematch. Both teams had some great first half opportunities. The Rhinos got a 1-on-1 mid way through but couldn't beat Ben. The Ice Devils were as quick as ever, with one-twos and overhead flicks working well to put runners into space. Rhinos keeper Matt had to move more than usual, rushing out numerous times to sweep away what could have easily formed into breakaway goals. For such an intense 20 minutes, both sides came up empty handed leaving the half-time score at 0-0. A bit of fatigue carried over into the second half and it was noticeable - each team was keen to wait and see what the other could do. Kieran and Ben had swapped in goals, an action followed by a period of concentrated Ice Devils attack. This kept the Rhinos on their side of the red desperately defending for the opening minutes of the half. A breakthrough came for the Rhinos in the middle of the half when Ryan took a shot from close range. Kieran had it collected but lost control allowing Jeff to follow up Ryan's blocked attempt with a successful one. Rhinos were up 1-0. It didn't look like it would last though as a classic Ice Devils play over the heads of the Rhinos put Josh into space with only the keeper to beat. He was denied by Matt, who did well to stop the first attempt but Reese followed up Josh's attack with a second. Unfortunately for the Ice Devils, his shot went high and the Rhinos breathed a sigh of relief. The final score remained 1-0 with the Rhinos glad to get a win after being defeated in their past two encounters with the Ice Devils. Thanks for a great, fast-paced game. We look forward to the next one.

Tigers vs. The Penbuins by Ryan Findlayson
Tigers who have 11 people on their roster, due to illness and injury, could only field 6 for this red-eye game. With the lack of numbers, Tigers tried to slow the game down at every opportunity. This meant spending long periods in defence, and clearing balls over half way. Penguins worked hard in attack, controlling the ball and waiting for the right moment to shoot, but the Tigers manned up well and restricted the Penguins from clear shots. Tigers made the occasional break, but could get the good shot away on the run. Half time, and no score on the board. Second half looked like it was going to be the same as the first, when about midway through all hell broke loose. Firstly, Daniel Wong stole the ball on the wall in his own half and made an inspired run the length of the ice, to deftly beat the Tigers keeper and put Penguins a goal up. This caused Tigers to immediately lift their intensity, and gain some stable possession in attack. Drawing an interference penalty from the Penguins defence, Tigers took advantage straight from the resulting face-off. Nick Kesby receiving the ball from the face off, and striking the ball to the near post causing the keeper to fumble and level the scores. Possibly the shortest power play in history, and a very short lived lead for the Penguins. It was less than a minute later that the Tigers casually took the ball over half way. It looked like nothing was on when Ryan Findlayson drilled the ball from about two steps over halfway. Passing between the marking defenders legs I believe it rocketed to the back of the net. A bit of confusion ensued as no one could actually believe that a shot from that distance scored. But score it did, and the Tigers after falling behind just two minutes ago, and gotten the lead. Tigers performed deep defence for the remainder of the game, and despite a few very close moments, were able to hold on for a satisfying win.

Druids C Push Dugongs
Druids C vs. Dugongs by Scott Powell
A fast paced and competitive match between the Dugongs and the Druids. Dugongs were very threatening, but the Druids defense was stoic. A single goal to rookie Michael finishing off his own run with assistance from Nathan was the difference in the final ten minutes of the match. Thanks to the Druids for a great match.

Journeymen vs. Knights Who Say Broomball by Josh Burton
The second match of the night showcased the matchup of last season's C Grade premiers, the Journeymen & 3rd place, the Knights. With the last game of Brett's short stay, the Knights wanted to take of his expertise and keep the form rolling, as the Knights are undefeated this season. The action early was fast and targeted towards scoring as both teams had chances early often, to wake the goalies from their slumber. The Knights used the possession, with shot after shot from Josh, but on the fourth shot (and they were all crisp of the stick too, shame it only happens once every blue moon) converted for a 1-0 lead. Not to be outdone, the Journeymen were not disheartened as they went close through Darren, but Tim put the equaliser away. The message at half time was concentrate under fatigue, and the message sunk early as Brett put the Knights up one, but Journeymen as they do, hit back with a deflection from Tim's shot to equalise at 2-2. The defence stepped up as each team threw everything at each other, but to no avail, as overtime was upon us. In overtime, Journeymen had their chance early, but after a bit of work, Brett put in his 2nd of the night and the winner for the Knights. A 3-2 overtime win is a good result for the resurgent Knights, who are looking forward to put a decent challenge for the title. Journeymen, not far off their best, are the main force in C Grade, and the division looks forward to challenging their spot at the top of the mountain.

Scausby OT Goal Gives Ravens the W
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Richmond Ravens by Joanne Hansen
A somewhat depleted Ravens took on Druids. Both teams created opportunities right from the start, with Druids making the most of a defensive lapse and putting the first goal on the board. Ravens found good form in the 2nd half, pushing hard to even the score. The goal came through a typical Peter Yabsley push past the keeper into the bottom corner of the net. Solid defence by both teams kept the score even at 1 all until full time. Druids had the strongest start to overtime and put Ravens under pressure defending their goal. Ravens luck changed when Jo Hansen saw an opportunity to steal a loose ball. Making the most of it, she ran the full length of the field and faked a pass to trick the last defender, but unfortunately mis-hit her flick to the goal and the ball floundered across the mouth of the goal, in reach of 2 Druids players. With a flying leap Andrew Scoresby leapt on his almost broken leg (last weeks injury) and cleaned the ball into the net to give Ravens the overtime win. Special mention should go to the girls on both teams, for playing very well with no subs.

Parramatta Raptors vs. Penrith City Rangers by Louis Sultana
Rangers v Raptors for the final game of the night. This game was fast, with both sides moving the ball around quickly on the turnaround. Some good keeping and desperate defence kept the scores at 0. This game was headed to Overtime. A late infraction by the Rangers meant the Raptors had the advantage in Overtime. 4 on 3 in overtime was always going to be a tough ask. The Raptors forced the turnover, then Louis Sultana found Daniel Wong in some space. Daniel Wong made no mistake, flicking the ball into the back of the net. Raptors 1-0 OT

Ryan Findlayson Scores at the Wrong End
Tigers vs. Rhinos by mark Ferrara
Action came came quickly in the Rhinos vs Tigers game. Jeff broke away for the Rhinos in the opening minutes and tried to find Mark in the centre with a cross that screened the face of the goal. In a bit of good fortune for the Rhinos, Ryan from the Tigers put the ball past his own keeper in an attempt to block the cross. Rhinos were up early 1-0. The pressure was back on the Tigers soon after with a penalty going against them for interference, though they put up some solid defence to keep the Rhinos out during the power play. There were sporadic attempts from both teams to contribute to the scoreline, but each one came up empty. This continued into the second half, where many viable goal attempts were made through breakaways rather than concentrated attack and maintained possession in the opponents half. Come full time, the score remained 1-0 to the Rhinos. Thanks to the Tigers for a challenging game and Ryan for doing what we could not do ourselves.

Knights take down Wraith
Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Emu Plains Wraith by Josh Burton
The first game of the night put the Knights against the Wraith. The Knights looking to exploit the Wraith early, took advantage of possession, but the Wraith stayed to course with good defence. The first goal was through the weight of possession on goal by way of Josh. The Knights had a second soon after, through some good post attack by Kane. The second half, proved to be a counter attack affair, as the Wraith have gained some much needed speed and confidence as they took advantage to have the Knights worried. The Game was put away by Brett with his first goal and the Knights' third. Wraith, to the their credit kept the confidence and pressed for pride. A gift by the Knights in the defensive zone gave the Wraith a clear chance, and they didn't disappoint in front of goal, on the cusp of full time. 3-1 Knights - Full Time

Rangers Upset Ravens
Richmond Ravens vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
Last night saw yet another tight tussle between the Rangers and the Ravens, with both teams showing good form early in the season. Ravens started the stronger of the two, creating several opportunites only to be denied by last ditch scrambling from the Rangers defence, 0-0 at half time. Rangers started the second half with a power play after a penalty in the closing seconds in the first half, and took full advantage of being a man up, with Bryn Shepherd hammering home a low shot to the bottom corner of the goal to give Rangers a 1-0 lead. Rangers held off a desperate Ravens attack in the closing minutes of the game to claim victory by the smallest of margins.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
Glenmore Park Druids up against a determined Tim and Kerryless Sonics. Druids had a lot of the early play as expected but it was a short sharp shot on a break away which gave Sonics the early lead. Druids continued to dominate but couldnt find an equaliser until late. 1-1 full time. OT didnt see many chances for either team (well a couple close ones for Sonics). 1-1 end of OT.

Karen Bell wins for Tigers in OT
Tigers vs. DruidsB by Ryan Findlayson
A fair portion of the players in this match up were backing up from the game immediately before it, so it was inevitable that there were going to be some tired bodies out there. Tigers had the slightly better of it to start with, being able to maintain some stints in attack. This paid off when Nick Kesby got free in the slot and put away the opener. 1-0 Tigers. Druids worked hard on both the break away, and the setup attack, but a couple of breakaway counter attacks by Tigers could have seen the scoreline blow out, but they were unable to convert. So 1-0 Tigers at half time. Druids put substantially more pressure on in the second half, eventually paying off when Bec Davis shot in from an impossible angle and somehow found the back of the net. A late power play to the Tigers had them on the attack for the last couple of minutes of normal time, but shots were being sprayed everywhere but at the goals. So 1-1 and overtime was required. Tigers started the period a man up, and this set the theme for the period with Druids often just clearing the ball when they had possesion, and Tigers looking for control in attack. Time was running down when Tigers were passing the ball around the top. Sally Yabsley-Bell took the shot but missed near side, and rebounded off the back wall towards the opposite side of the goals. Karen Bell was there to regain possession and cleverly pulled the ball back in front of the goals and slotted it underneath a diving Saxon Hooper inside the far post for the winner. So an OT win to the Tigers after a tough tussle.

Rhinos vs. Ice Devils by Josh Burton
The last game of the night was the second encounter of the Grand Final in B Grade last season. Being well acquainted with each other, it didn't take long for the stale mate to occur. Both teams were using different strategies to put the other off their game. The possession and counter attacks stayed even for most of the half. The deadlock was broken by a good passage of play, with Kieran flicking ahead, and Josh put the goal in on the volley, just avoiding a high stick for a 1-0 lead into half time. Much of the same in the second half, as Rhinos found more open space to use, but Ice Devils held firm with the one goal being critical in the end. 1-0 Full Time

Knights Start With a Win
Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Ice Devils by Josh Burton
A new season of C Grade is upon us, with the first match of the evening showcased the Knights, who were 30 seconds away from overtime in the peniultimate game of last season, and the Ice Devils, who had the talents of experienced veterans from the B Grade comp, as well as the return of the 'Prodigal Son' Cameron Parkes. With the list of names they possess, the Ice Devils look to be a team to watch, but not to be outdone is the Knights, with a full strength outfit from the last part of the previous season, plus new recruits. With both teams looking for a quick start, possession was key. This proves right for the Knights, as Josh used a fluky deflection for the first goal. The possession evened out, as the new season mistakes occurred, with both teams using counter attacks. Knights were first to score after the break with a quick turnover off a faceoff, which lead to Pete scoring with a centered shot. The third goal was scored by a breakaway play by our 'short term recruit', Brett Ackling. With full time score 3-0 to Knights. A good win to the Knights, with some two way broomball. Ice Devils can take alt away from their first game together and will improve and the Knights look forward to the reverse fixture.

A Division - Week 3
Wins For Druids and Sonics
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Penrith City Rangers by Saxon Hooper
Rangers players were a bit late putting Druids on an early power play while Rangers geared/turned up. However Druids couldnt convert this advantage as Rangers scrambled well and continually forced Druids back into their own half. Eventually Rangers got their players on the ice (minus Dave Degruyter who we later learnt had broken down on his way and elected to fix his car rather than play his game) and the game evened up. Both keeper doing a fine job of maintaining the status quo. Eventually lateish in the first half, a errant pass was picked off by Linda Findlayson who found Saxon Hooper loitering near goals. A hard shot deflected off the keepers cup (OUCH !!) down between his legs and into the net. 1-0 Druids. More of the same back and forth in the 2nd half with both teams failing to convert chances. With 2 to go Rangers pulled their keeper and piled on a heap of pressure. No luck for Rangers on the pulled keeper and no luck for Druids (especially Damo Colyer) on the empty net. 1-0 Druids full time.

Parramatta Raptors vs. Werrington County Sonics by Tim Brown
An open game with both sides creating chances to score, but neither side managing a goal in the first half. In the second half a good chance to Raptor's early, Sonic's over committing in attack and Louie Sultana with a break in on goal. Louie was unable to get a shot on goal though with Jeff Ferrera sprinting back and putting in a timely stick check to spoil that chance. Then a quicks Sonic's break out, a switch in play to from the blue line to Kerry Baxter breaking on the far wing. She took the ball over the red line and centering to Paul Stockbridge who drew a defender and passed to Tim Brown running through, the pass slighty behind Brown who controlled and took a quick shot, beating the defender and surprising the goal tender beating him low to his left. Sonic's 1-nil up early in the second half. Both teams continued to play in a open game with Raptor's really dominating possession in the last ten minutes. Sonics just holding on at the end when Raptor's pulled their keeper. Daniel Wong getting a turnover in the slot but not able to beat the buzzer with a last gasp shot on goal. Sonics getting their first win of the season and ending their two game losing run.

B Division - Week 3
Tigers take out last season's Premiers
Tigers vs. Ice Devils by Ryan Findlayson
Last game of the night saw Tigers play the Ice Devils. Traditionally Tigers have struggled to score against super keeper Ben Irmisch despite creating many chances. The game started reasonably frantically, both teams running hard the full court and utilising passing skills to break defensive lines. It was midway through the first half that the first goal got on the board. After setting up in attack Tigers controlled the ball, and Ryan Findlayson created half a gap from about the blue line, put a bullet through to the near post where Karen Bell was waiting and displayed amazing skill to deftly deflect the ball into the top corner, giving the keeper no chance. 1-0 Tigers. The very next stanza saw Tigers double their lead. Zac Law with a brilliant run up the centre, carving through the defense with great ball control and flicking the ball over the shoulder of the keeper. The was contention as to if the ball actually crossed the goal line or not, but in the end it was irrelevant, as Nick Kesby was their to put away the spoils. 2-0 Tigers at half time. Tigers very content with their lead focused on the defense in the second half. They repeatedly repelled the Ice Devil attacks, and still managed to create a few chances of their own. Ice Devils did manage to scrape one back with 45 seconds to go, a shot between a defenders legs that went inside the far post. But there was not enough time left have a levelling shot. So 2-1 to the Tigers. A very satisfying win over last seasons champions.

C Grade Underway !!
Journeymen vs. DruidsC by Mitchell Burrett
Season starts with a shut out! Yes, first official game of the summer season of C grade saw the defending champions The Journeymen facing off against the ever improving Druids. With the irreplaceable Hooper putting in an appearance in a striped shirt, all signs pointed to this being a classic encounter. Action was fast paced from both teams, with breakout runs and the on target shots the order of the day. Luke took first blood, putting the Journeymen up 1-0 in the middle of the first. Tim followed up with a goal of his own, widening the gap after the first twenty. The second half brought renewed vigour from the Druids, whose three and four man plays repeatedly bore down upon yours truly. But a more focused Druids were only met with a more focused Journeymen, as Tim followed up with an additional two goals, and Darren capping off the night with another. Final score was 5-0 in favour of the journeymen. Kudos to the Druids for a solid performance. Both teams look to their next games as the season rolls on.

Dugongs vs. Emu Plains Wraith by Scott Powell
Second match of the season saw the Wraith and Dugongs facing off. Both sides with healthy benches meant that we were in for a fast paced match. Wraith opened the scoring in the opening minutes after pouncing on a stray pass and going for an unhindered solo run. Dugongs were fired up afterwards but even with the bulk of possession were unable to defeat the Wraith keepers until late in the half, Nathan flicking one past some tough defense off a Joel pass. 1-1 at the break. The game was played mostly in the middle third, the Wraith defense working overtime to keep the Dugongs at bay. Nathan scored his second after a lovely through ball from Aaron with less than 10 minutes on the clock to break the deadlock, and added a third a few minutes later after new Dugong Larissa fed him another ball right infront of goals. Joel added to the lead in the final minute after a length of the field effort. Dugongs 4-1 at the final siren, the game much closer than the scoreline indicated. Thanks to the Wraith for another well contested match.

The Penguins vs. DruidsB by Saxon Hooper
2-1 Win for Druids over an improving Penguins out fit. Greasy ice didnt help either team.

Rhinos vs. Ice Devils by Josh Burton
The second B Grade match of the night was a grand final rematch between the runners-up, the Rhinos and the winners of last season's competition, The Ice Devils. The Ice Devils were looking to capitalise on form gained from a gritty overtime draw with players low against the Druids. With the welcome return to Ben, Dominique & Anke, the Devils were confident of a win. The match started with a free flow of possession for both teams, with Ice Devils gained enough possession to get the ball movement going for Buckley to score the first goal of the campaign for the Devils. Good defence kept both sides in the game, but attacking fluency not working for Devils allowed Rhinos to build their attacking structure, but good defence from all Devil players ensured the nervousness was short lived. Rhinos looked dangerous in the last 5 minutes looking for the equaliser, but with 8 seconds left, Kieran flick passes (and his best one on command for a while) set Josh on the counter, and with a quick look at the scorecard, added salt into the Rhinos' wounds with a goal on the buzzer 2-0 Ice Devils.

B grade Underway
Rhinos vs. The Penguins by Bec Belcastro
The Rhinos were excited to start off their season with a game against the Penguins. Some slippery ice saw Rhinos team members deliver some inaccurate passes and general mistakes which allowed the Penguins to maintain possession for much of the first half. Rhinos player Jarad, was able to gain possession from a face off in Rhinos half and put one in the back of the net. This was quickly followed by a mistake from The Penguins allowing Rhinos player Bec to score in a one on one with Penguins goalie. Leading 2-0 at half time, Rhinos were keen to maintain their lead, but this did not come easily as the Penguins fought hard in both attack and defense. Rhinos third goal was scored by Jeff from outside Penguins blue, because he is awesome like that. Both teams played hard until the end, the final score being 3-0.

Druids Out Point Sonics
Preliminary Final: Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
Druids coming off a 3-0 thumping by Ravens in the Qualifying Final had to face up to a Sonics team buoyed by the unexpected availability of guns Tim Brown and Kerry Baxter for the other spot in the Grand Final. Sonics started a little nervously handing possession to Saxon Hooper in front of the net twice in the first 3 minutes.. a good save by James Kristof and a post keeping the score at 0-0. Despite Druids early dominance it was Sonics first on the board with Jason Wheeler finding Kerry Baxter who roofed the shot. A high stick by Dee Scarano put Druids on a power play which Dom Colyer converted with a thunderbolt of his own. 1-1 half time. Second half was an even affair as both teams worked hard. Good keeping and good defence maintaining the equilibrium. Just when it looked like the game was going to go to OT a hard shot from Damo Colyer with 2 minutes on the clock found the back of the net. 2-1 Druids. With the Sonics keeper pulled the last two minutes was a hectic defensive scramble for Druids, holding on for the win. 2-1 to Druids who meet Minor Premiers Ravens in the Grand Final on Saturday.

Rhinos Charge into the Grand Final
Preliminary Final: Druids B vs. Rhinos by Jarad Ferrara
The Rhinos and Druids took to the ice late Tuesday night fighting for a spot in the grand final against the Ice Devils. The first half started with a number of attempts at distance on the Rhinos goal as the Druids looked to maintain attacking possession. As the teams settled in, opportunities opened up for the Rhinos. Jeff Ferrara broke away to set up the Rhinos offence early in the half. However, after an attempt on goal he was caught for high stick and the Druids quickly reapplied the pressure. A lost ball from the Druids in their attacking half saw Mark Ferrara break away for a 1 on 1 attempt with the keeper where he scored the Rhinos' first, cutting it into the top left corner. However, shortly after he gave away a penalty, a situation only relieved by the Druids also conceding a penalty. Not long after, on top of strong control just inside the Druids third, Jason Wheeler rifled one into the bottom right corner making it 2-0 at half time. The opening of the second half saw fewer opportunities for the Rhinos. Breaks from the Druids forced the Rhinos' keeper Matt McCabe to travel out of goals to neutralise any 1 on 1 chances. However, the Rhinos defense held out and the match finished 2-0. Thanks to the Druids for a challenging prelim final. The Rhinos now face the Ice Devils on Saturday in the grand final.

Dugongs to meet Journeymen in the C Grand Final
Preliminary Final: Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Dugongs by Scott Powell
The defending premiers faced off against the minor premiers to see who would earn the chance to play the Journeymen in Saturdays final. The Dugongs started with back to back possessions, Joel earning himself a goal when a sharp deflection from a defender helped his shot find the net in the fourth minute. The game moved back and forth, with both sides putting shots on goals, with the keepers up the challenge. Halftime arrived with the Dugongs holding the narrowest of leads. The second half was more of the same, defence overpowering offense; until an atrocious mishit behind goals from Scott took a terrible deflection from an unassuming Ron in goals and the scores were deadlocked 1-1 with 15 minutes to play. Both teams launched fresh assaults, none successful. With under a minute left on the clock and both sides desperate to avoid overtime, Aaron made a break, took the ball from the wall towards the goals and let loose. The shot took (surprise, surprise) a deflection and rocketed into the back post for a 2-1 lead with 35 seconds to go. Knights threw it all at the Dugongs but were foiled by the clock. Dugongs up 2-1 in a nail biter. Another great game in what has been an outstanding finals series.

Raptors Out, Ravens into the Grand Final
Elimination Final: Parramatta Raptors vs. Werrington County Sonics by Tim Brown
The last time these two teams met Raptors dished out a 3-0 thumping. Sonics were keen to improve their defence after that match and a season that saw them conceed 13 goals. Keeping that in mind the first few minutes saw a 50/50 ball turn into a Raptors breakaway. Daniel Wong, coming away with the ball and Raptors getting the first clear chance in the game but, James Kristof in goal showed good from to deny the chance along with Jason Wheeler sprinting back to clean up the rebound. From there on in Sonics probably had the better of possession with Raptors still threatening with some quick counter attacks. After the early scare cover defence at the back from Sonics was much better not allowing any clear breakaway chances. The only goal of the game came in the second half. After a couple of shots in on goal from Sonics, the Raptors defence were caught out, Jason Wheeler, hitting a low cross to the back post and Dhyana Scarano flying to finish. It was about the only way to beat the keepers on the night with both James Kristof and Ben Irmisch stopping every direct shot with ease. Sonics did have a couple of chances to seal the match after the goal, Ben Robson, hitting the post, and Tim Brown, with another clear chance unable to beat the keeper. In the final minutes, Raptors pressed hard on an increasingly nervous Sonics team just trying to hold onto their lead. Louis Sultana with a great chance in the dying stages with a shot from the face off circle but, it flew just wide of the top corner. However, it was not to be for Raptors, Sonics taking a very tough match 1-0.

Qualifying Final: Richmond Ravens vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Jo Hansen
Minor premiers Ravens played 2nd place finishers Druids to see who would go straight through to Saturdays final. Ravens have beaten Druids in every match-up this the season, consistently reading the Druids play and responding well. Ravens did not start out as strong as usual and were under slight pressure for the first few minutes. Ravens then got their act together and dominated the game for the remaining 37 minutes. 3 great goals to Ravens. All 3 were team efforts. Aaron Dymond opened the scoring with a hard shot into the corner of the net. In typical style Pete muscled the ball through the keeper for the 2nd goal, and also picked up the 3rd goal, cleaning up Jos shot that was nicely blocked by Druids defence. Both Saxon and Ryan from Druids had shots on net, and there were some great defensive plays demonstrated as well. Druids will play Sonics for a chance to take on Ravens in the grand final on Saturday.

Tigers Eliminated in Epic OT Thriller
Elimination Final: Druids B vs. Tigers by Matt Hellyer
Tonights B grade elimination final saw the third placed Tigers take on the fourth placed DruidsB in an epic overtime thriller. Once again DruidsB found themselves scraping into the finals and having to work from the bottom up. Missing all of their regular girls was the first challenge of the game and was overcome after borrowing both girls from the Rhinos team who had just played. And boy were they in for a gruelling match. Tigers opened up the scoring part way through the first half and maintained their lead for much of the match before DruidsB were able to equalise bringing the full time score to 1-1. Due to match overruns, golden goal was played in the five minutes of overtime that followed, yet despite a furious assault on goals by the Tigers, some great saves by Damo and Dom kept the score even.As exhaustion set in, more overtime was then played, with Joel Robson eventually getting a breakaway, followed closely by several defenders hot on his heels, that he used to line up a shot and slot it into the back of the undefended net. 2-1 to DruidsB in a showdown against Tigers that really was anyones game.

Qualifying Final: Ice Devils vs. Rhinos by Josh Burton
Ice Devils with a 1-0 win over Rhinos in the B grade Qualifying final. Nice tiget affair with plenty of chances for both teams. In the end a single goal from Josh 'Finally I made it to B Grade after 20 seasons of winning the C grade points award' Burton 10 minutes into the 1st half was enough for Ice Devils to make the grand final. Rhinos get a second chance vs the winnner of the Tigers and DruidsB elimination final tomorrow night.

Journeymen into the Grand Final
Elimination Final: Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Iceatopes by Josh Burton
With the rivalry opening up another twist, with players suspended (Grant from Iceatopes and Kane from Knights) from last week's 'altercation that could not be named', the match started with a discussion with the referee. The match turned into a tough, close game early on, with the so-and-so Josh from Iceatopes doing his annoying for the first goal. Knights hit back quick to tie the score, but the Iceatopes took the lead again before half time to take a 2-1 lead. The message at half time for the Knights, "stay focused, pass will hit, shots will come, goals will come. It took a while, but the team continued to step up with a little comment 'directed for fun' from Iceatopes to Josh, lead to his goal and tying goal after a critical faceoff. This opened up the Iceatopes, as a quick counter double from Damien put the scores to 4-2, and Nathan added the fifth via a bit of goalie help. The last 7 minutes with damage control, for Iceatopes as they went searching, but Knights up to the task, and held possession long enough for the 5-2 win. Knights, very glad to be at the stage of the competition, as players from all directions stepping up at the right time of season Knights play the loser (team that does not win) of the qualifying final between Dugongs and Journeymen (If reading next write up for Dugongs and Journeymen, wait for the twist.....

Qualifying Final: Journeymen vs. Dugongs by Mitchell Burrett
Shut-out Surprise! Second game of the night and it was a battle between the top two spots on the C-Grade ladder. The prize? A straight path to the grand final. With the goal in sight and the battle lines drawn, both teams took to the ice full of focus and determination. There must've been some awe inspiring prematch speeches given, as right from the opening whistle, it was obvious that neither team was willing to give an inch. The customary Dugong's three man power play was met with Journeymen preparation, with Nathan, Scott and Joel repeatedly denied the points they so desired, by Jason, Bree and Luke(s). The score was deadlocked at nill all going into the break. With the action showing no signs of slowing and the game edging ever closer to moving to overtime, Tim emerged to break the stalemate, putting one past the Dugong's keeper to put the Journeymen ahead with a little over ten minutes to go. What followed was one of the most frantic and fast-paced games that I've been a part of. Frustration began mounting for Nathan and Joel, unable to convert momemtum into points. As the timer wore down, a valiant effort by the Dugongs was not enough to breakthrough the focused Journeymen defence. Final score sat at 1-0 to the Journeymen, leaving the minor premiers to face the Knights next week for their return to the grand final

Druids overhaul Sonics to grab 2nd
Richmond Ravens vs. Parramatta Raptors by Joanne Hansen
A solid game from all players but without any bonus points that would have made a more entertaining game. Ravens opened the scoring when Pete slid the ball in behind the keeper, after tricking the defense into stumbling over their own feet. Raptors tried using their considerable pace to find the net, and succeeded when Ravens were killing a tripping penalty. With a full team on the ice gain, ravens held possession, creating chances but unable to score. Ravens were also unable to slot the ball into the open overtime net. Player of the match goes to all 4 girls, who all played 45 mins no subs, nice work:)

Richmond Ravens vs. Parramatta Raptors by Louis Sultana
Last game of the regular season between the Richmond Ravens and Parramatta Raptors. It is one a piece in previous encounters this season and both sides were looking to continue their momentum going into the finals. Ravens scored early and lead into the half time break. In the second half, Raptors scored on a Power Play through Reece Shepherd. No further scores in regular time. In overtime, both teams had their chances but could not convert. 1-1 FT - hopefully the teams will meet again in the finals to finally break the deadlock.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Penrith City Rangers by Saxon Hooper
Rangers playing for pride, Druids needing a win for 2nd spot and a valuable 2nd chance in the finals. Rangers started fast applying a lot of early pressure, Druids holding firm and going to the half 0-0. It was Druids on the board first in the 2nd half with a nice Allie Hewett deflection finding the back of the net. Ranger turned up the pressure and attacked all out looking for the equaliser. Again Druids held firm denying Rangers until the end. 1-0 Druids, grabbing 2nd place and a spot vs Ravens in the qualifying final next Monday.

Rhinos Jump to Second
Rhinos vs. Tigers by Mark Ferrara
The Rhinos and the Tigers were both keen to win and place well the week before the finals. Both teams defended well. The only goal of the first half came from Jason who received a pass from Mark just over halfway, running up the middle to beat the keeper one on one. Matt got penalised for sliding into Zach close to the boards with a few mins to go in the first half, but the Rhinos held on to lead at the break. The second half was pretty tense; each team got some good attempts on goal. Ultimately the Rhinos held onto their lead, winning 1-0. Thanks Tigers for a great close game.

Last Round of the Season
Iceatopes vs. Knights Who Say Broomball by Josh Burton
The rivalry is alive and well between the Iceatopes and the Knights. The returns of the Joshs on each side, ensures a little bit of intrigue, with one week till the finals. The Knights have been on the finals tightrope for the last 3 weeks, with a tough loss to the Dugongs and 2 wins, knowing tonight's match could clinch 4th place. The match started with a lack of Iceatopes, as it 6 on 3, with the Knights taking advantage with shots on goal, quick and fast, for the first goal. With the possession against them, Josh from Iceatopes lead a counter attack for a goal. Back to full strength, but still a girl down, the Iceatopes fought but conceded a goal before half time for 2-1 lead to Knights. With the message of finals broomball in the ears, the Knights looked for another goal, but Josh scored his second to lock the scores up. With the game at a stand still, the Knights scored 2 goals through Kiera and Pato, for 4-2 win, leading into a likely rematch next week.

Dugongs vs. DruidsC by Scott Powell
The final game of the regular season saw the Dugongs facing off against the Druids, a team which includes some former Dugongy faces! The Dugongs attacked from the drop and held the majority of field position. After a few well saved shots Joel opened the games scoring with a power strike. The Dugongs continued to pepper the Druids goals, but their last line defence held firm and their ninja keeper Pete ensured that the Dugongs only had the single point advantage. This advantage was shortlived as Pete took a break from ninja-ing, ran the length of the field and squeezed a tight angled shot past the Dugongs keeper to tie the match up at 1-1 just on half time. The game slowed in the second half, the Dugongs retaining the bulk of possession, with the Druids making a number of good breaks in the half. Druid defence again making a mockery of the multitude of Dugong shots. The game looked like it would be going into overtime when a Nathan cross was intercepted by the Druids keeper who, in his haste forced the ball between his legs and into the goals to give the Dugongs a slim lead. The game turned into an attack-counterattack affair for the final minutes, until a Joel shot took a deflection from the keeper and gave the Dugongs a 3-1 win. Thanks to the Druids for a nail-biting game and a great way to end the season.

Journemen Spank Wraith
Journeymen vs. Emu Plains Wraith by Mitchell Burrett
Okay, final 'Commentary from the keepers box' for the regular season. Both teams took to the ice with a full squad, although Wraith were sans their intrepid leader Matt Hellyer. The game started off innocently enough with some back and forth from both teams. Tim started the Journeymen's night, putting one past the keeper after just two minutes of play. This goal would set the tone for the rest of the game as Tim, Darren and Luke would all pickup goals before the break. Coming out of half time, with the Journeymen leading 5-0, Wraith shot out of the block, with a focused offensive effort, utilising multiple man plays to bring the ball extremely close to the goals on multiple occasions. Unable to convert momentum into points, and conceding a last ditch point to Luke, the game ended with the score at 6-0 in favour of the Journeymen. The Journeymen have wrapped up for the regular season, and Wraith look to next week for redemption. Thanks to the Wraith for a well played match.

Knights Who Say Broomball vs. DruidsC by Josh Burton
Tonight's second match is between the Knights & the Druids The finals race is in on the home straight, with the tightrope becoming thinner for the loser of tonight's matchup The action started as good as C Grade gets, with some good defence on both sides. The Knights gained a bit of possession, and through a mis-clearance by Druids, the first resulted from Martin's stick to open the scores. We also had a goal disallowed for an 'admin error' which resulted in a 1-0 scoreline at Half Time. The Druids could only clear the ball, as the Knights put goals 2, 3 & 4 past the goalie, with Kiera's first goal for the year. A goalie error resulted in Druids getting a consolation goal, with the final score 4-1. The race for 4th comes down to the last week, as Knights play the Iceatopes & Druids play Dugongs

Druids in OT over Sonics
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
An injury depleted Druids taking on Sonics in a must win game for both teams. Sonics using their numerical advantage to keep the game fast and Druids constantly defending for their lives. Somehow Druids holding out to half time 0-0. Same in the second half with Sonics constantly threatening, but luckily for Druids not converting. 0-0 full time. Druids grabbed the ball in OT and took it forward, trying to work a set play. When it failed and the ball turned over to Sonics.. a lucky deflection from a Sonics pass saw the ball pop free in front of the net to Saxon Hooper to drop into the empty net. 1-0 OT win for Druids.

Richmond Ravens vs. Penrith City Rangers by Joanne Mitchell
Red Rangers lose to richmond ravens. Rangers applied early pressure putting Ravens under the pump for the first shift. From this point on there were plenty of opportunities created by both teams, with neither team converting in the first half. The 2nd half saw a lovely partnership form between Dane and Pete, with a happy ending as Dane finished off Pete's curved ball. Dane was sent off twice for being an idiot, but his team mates kept Rangers at bay. Liam scored late in the game, from a schmoo pass, evening the score and sending the game into overtime. Overtime gave Pete's stick the opportunity to continue it's goal-per-game streak, surprsingly tricking rangers into thinking he was going to pass, but expertly pulling off a hand thing to get the win for ravens.

Rhinos vs. DruidsB by Matt Hellyer
Druids scraped past Rhinos with a 1-0 win.

Tigers vs. Ice Devils by Josh Burton
Tonight's match showcased the Ice Devils against the Tigers With both teams fighting for respective spots in the finals, a win was crucial. Starting off, the Tigers had the advantage as the Ice Devils were working for possession, but to no avail. The action balanced out with counter attacks getting some action towards the goalies, with good saves on both ends. A tripping not-called against Tigers seemed to focus Tigers, as they looked the better team heading into Half Time. After half time, Ice Devils looked for some space, but Tigers used the grinding style to put some defensive plays together, which lead to their goal soon after. 1-0 Tigers. With 10 minutes to go, time was running out for the Ice Devils, as miscommunication, attacking plays stuffing up and luck was against the Ice Devils. With the final minutes ticking, Tigers looked the victors, but from some attacking possession and pressure, Reese equalised with a minute to go. At the ensuing face-off, the ball tickled out, Josh prounced on the ball, tried a flick, batted down by the Tigers, ball found its way with pass from Josh to David Buckley for a goal. GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLL. 2-1 Ice Devils. 30 seconds to go, Tigers looked for a goal, that they didn't expect to have to get, but Kieran put his body on the line to hold the ball up on the wall, long enough for a unlikely Ice Devils win. Ice Devils win, as the Tigers may regret the one that got away, with one week to go before finals.

DruidsC Push Journeymen to the Final Buzzer
Knights Who Say Broomball vs. Emu Plains Wraith by Josh Burton
The first match of the evening was the Knights against the Wraith. The quest to replicate Jackie Moon in Semi Pro is in front of the Wraith, Knights and the Druids. 4th place becomes a little easier to work out with three weeks before finals. The troops for both teams seemed to have grow, as for the Knights, they actually had subs! With a bit of a delay to get started, the Wraith decided to trash talk just a little bit at the faceoff (don't worry, it was clean). The play started with both sides getting a healthy dose of possession before Knights used their reinforcements to good use hitting the post three times in the first half (four, if you count the double upright no goal) Knights had one last chance to convert before half time, with a slick flick pass from Pato to Josh, but Matt saved the damn thing. 0-0 half time. The Wraith worked on possession and got some chances, but Knights held strong. The tie was eventually broken with Josh converting a counter for a 1-0 lead. Both teams used the limited time with quick passes for a chance at another goal. Wraith had the last chance, but couldn't find the last touch. Knights 1-0. A good win, adding some must needed points to their tally on the table. Both teams played good as the scoreline showed.

Journeymen vs. DruidsC by Mitchell Burrett
Second game of the night saw the Journeymen take on the rapidly improving Druids C. As we move rapidly towards the impending finals, both teams took to the ice for their final encounter of the season. Our last encounter ended with the Journeymen emerging victorious 7-1, would lightning strike twice? The first ten minutes of the game progressed in a standard fashion, with both teams presenting offence and defence to keep the scoreboard at nil all. As half time loomed ever closer, Tim took advantage of a scramble in the Druids defensive half, putting one past the keeper to take the score to 1-0 going into the break. Back after half-time and both teams were looking to pick up the pace. Consistent Druid offensive plays were unfortunately unable to be converted into points, with the action drifting back towards their goal line on more than one occasion. Tim again picked his spot, putting in his second of the night taking the score to 2-0 where it remained until the final buzzer. A great effort from the Druids and a huge improvement over our last encounter. Both teams look to next week's contests.

Tiger account for The Penguins
Tigers vs. The Penguins by Ryan Findlayson
Tigers with a full complement of players and Penguins relying on standers by to make up numbers meant that Tigers were looking to keep the game fast. The Penguins substitute player did not have a Penguins jersey, so the 2 minute penalty that ensued helped Tigers establish momentum. Tigers building pressure, and trying to control the ball for a shot on goal, and get there post players into the game. This is how the first Tigers goal was achieved. A back hand shot by Ryan findlayson, followed by a sliding shot on the rebound by Leanne Irmisch put the ball away. Penguins did have a couple of opportunities in attack, but some good commitment in defence, and great keeping by Kevin Chen kept the Penguins out. Tigers then took a blow when Zac Law copped a stick to the mouth, and couldn't continue in the game. But Tigers pressed on. Tigers second goal came with a lob into the goal crease to the waiting Nick Kesby, who nicely knocked it down to himself, and converted for his first Tigers goal!! 2-0 half time, and despite being down Zac, Tigers were hungry for more. Their third goal came from a pass by Linda Findlayson that bisected both Nick and Leanne playing post. I believe both got stick to it, and certainly enough to beat the keeper. The goal going to Nick, even though it could of gone to either!! Tigers took their second blow when Ryan did his hamstring whilst making a break. But Tigers continued to control the game and stay solid in defence. So the game ended 3-0 to Tigers.

DruidsB vs. Ice Devils by Josh Burton
Tonight's match put the Ice Devils and DruidsB against each other. With both teams vying for the likeihood of the minor premiership, the points were crucial. The match started with both teams trying to hold possession, long enough for a chance. Ice Devils started to hold the ascendency, with the possession piling up and the Druids waiting for the counter opportunities. Both teams had opportunities, with the score 0-0 at half time. The Ice Devils went to aggressive mode, with the first goal scored by Anke on the post. The Druids went to their strengths, and plucked a equalising goal. Ice Devils started to gain more chances whih resulted in a deserved 'team' goal ended with Buckley capitalising on good form. With that goal, Ice Devils found more time and space, but didn't advantage of this, to leave with the win and points. A good win to Ice Devils with form coming at the right time of the season.

Dugongs Leading the Way
Dugongs vs. Emu Plains Wraith by Scott Powell
First game of the night had the Dugongs up against the Wraith. It was a cautious start by both teams, but the Dugongs maintained the bulk of the possession. Aaron opened the scoring with a solo dash. This was quickly followed by a goal to Mark. Aaron pounced on a bouncing ball from a lob pass to give the Dugongs a 3-0 advantage late in the half, before Nathan got the slightest of touches to steal a goal from Scott right on half time. The Wraith tightened their defences in the second half, the scoreline remaining 4-0 until the final five minutes when a cross from Scott took a nasty deflection from a defender to find the back of the net. Aaron completed his hat-trick with a minute to go thanks to a second defender deflection, the final score 6-0. Thanks to the Wraith for a good clean game on some greasy ice.

Journeymen vs. Iceatopes by Mitchell Burrett
Second and final game of the night, and as always, by the virtue of me doing the writeup the end result is a foregone conclusion. Both teams took to the ice with full squads, with play starting out full of aggressive runs, swings and strong plays. A strong offensive play from the Journeymen saw Tim score the first goal, taking the board to 1-0 heading into halftime. Before the buzzer though, a second goal by Tim took the score to 2-0 in favour of the Journeymen. As the second half kicked off, the Iceatopes increased their plays, the pressure of getting points on the board becoming more evident. Strong offense by Josh, Grant, Alex and Steph had me scrambling for saves more than once, and it appeared to be nothing but unfortunate luck which prevented the Topes from converting the offense into points. As the half wound down, Tim was able to score another two goals, taking the final score to 4-0. Thanks to the Iceatopes for a frantic and fun match, and we look forward to the rest of the season.

Ravens Grab a Win from a Depleted Sonics
Richmond Ravens vs. Werrington County Sonics by Joanne Hansen
In most cases where Sonics take on Ravens, the game is clean, fair and fast. This was no exception Ravens played a comfortable game, sticking to the tried and true game plays and keeping position. 2 nice goals were scored Aaron Dymond and Peter Yabsley. Great 3-2 offfensive forechecking meant that ravens held the majority of ball play and used his comfortably to secure the win. Sonics made some convincing attacks and defended well but still keenly missed star players Kerry, Tim and Jason Wheeler. Some great shots by Sally Yabsley, although none of these converted into a goal. Great game to everyone who played.

Parramatta Raptors vs. Penrith City Rangers by Louis Sultana
The last game of the night turned out to be a very interesting one. About 9 penalties were called during the game, with all but one called against the Rangers. The Raptors had plenty of practice on the Power Play but could not convert on any occasion. The game went into overtime, but with another Rangers player in the penalty box, the Raptors moved the ball around ever so patiently until Louis Sultana had a clear shot. Louis sealing the win for Raptors. Rangers did very well to hold out as long as they did in a bizarre and frustrating game. Raptors 1-0 OT.

Rhinos and Ice Devils Complete Series
Rhinos vs. Ice Devils by Josh Burton
The second match of the night showcased the third outing of the season between Ice Devils and the Rhinos. The season ledger has been squared at 1-1, so points heading towards finals becoming a little more critical week by week, and with troops down on both teams, points were even more critical. The usual feeling out process left both teams scratching their heads for Plan B, as the first 10 minutes resulted in a standstill. Counter attacks become more prevalent, as both teams started to fatigue. The game turned into a real tussle, with a counter attack by Rhinos, and a quick resulting by Ice Devils resulted in the first goal to Ice Devils via a goal by Josh & assist by Reese. Half Time 1-0 Ice Devils. The second half produced much of the same see-sawing action, with both teams getting chances, but lucky breaks forced turnovers. Rhinos waged a battle for the tying goal, but Ice Devils held on for a 1-0 win. Ice Devils gutted out another win, with some plays, offensive and defensive alike, with the team starting to click with more time on the ice. Rhinos look forward to a clash with Tigers next week, while Ice Devils take on the Penquins.

DruidsB vs. The Penguins by James Kristof
Penguins welcomed back Tim and Sara Roffey in style with a 3-0 win over Druids. Sara Roffey got the opening goal off of a Natasha Sheaves pass, before Daniel Wong and Shannan Heinitz both scored individual goals late in the second half to give Penguins an impressive win.

Wraith over DruidsC
DruidsC vs. Emu Plains Wraith by Ben Hellyer
Tonight's match between Emu Plains Wraith and Glenmore Park Druids C was hard fought until the very end. DruidsC dominated possession throughout the game, with many attempts at goal each of which were unsuccessful. This was in part due to some excellent stick and foot saves by the various Wraith goalkeepers and at least as often a good measure of luck. The only goal of the night came when Matt Hellyer from Wraith took a shot at the nets, which was deflected by opponent Joel Robson's hand straight over the keeper. It was an unfortunate home goal, and the only thing that allowed Wraith to come out on top. Numerous send offs against both sides were not enough to change the score line and so Wraith took the win 1-0 over DruidsC. Thanks to both teams for a good game.

Journeymen vs. Knights Who Say Broomball by Mitchell Burrett
Righto, here we go, the first edition of 'Commentary from the Keeper's box - Journeymen Edition' In the first match of the evening, the Journeymen took to the ice against the Knights in a highly anticipated rematch from...two weeks ago? (Thumbs up for the random draw!). The result last time was 5-0 in favour of the Journeymen, the Knights obviously keen to gain the win back tonight. The J-Men were fielding a full team, the Knights playing their customary 5 players. Special welcomes go out to new Journeymen and Journeywomen Luke and Jodie, welcome to the team guys. The game opened with the standard format of 'hit and chase' until Tim caused a score shift via two consecutive goals, taking the score to 2-0 in our favour going into the break. Proving they were down but not out, Knight Nathan played an opportunity heading into halftime, scoring the goal and bring the score to 2-1. Half time arrived and disappeared instantaneously, with both teams starting the new half intent on maintaining or earning the advantage. Before the 20 minutes were up, Tim notched up another three, taking the final score to 5-1 in favour of the Journeymen. Not quite the redemption the Knights were seeking, but still a step up from our last encounter. Thanks to the Knights for an always full-on match, and congrats to the Journeymen on the win.

Ravens bag a lucky win over Rangers
Richmond Ravens vs. Penrith City Rangers by Joanne Mitchell
Ravens bag a lucky win over Rangers. This game saw both teams with an even amount of ball, and some great offensive charges from both teams. Rangers opened the scoring with a sharp goal by Mark Rutkowski, who was well supported by his team-mates against a lagging Ravens defense. After mounting several counter attacks, Andrew Scoresby scored a beautiful goal for Ravens. As he cut from defense he called for the ball, which he picked out of the air to blast past a defenseman and the keeper. Both teams continued to play well until the end. Unfortunately the game was decided by an unlucky goal by Rangers. Rangers managed to survive 3 penalty kill sessions, well done to the female Rangers who all had a particularly good game with special mention to Skye Degrueter who made some great tackles. In summary ths was a good game with an even amount of ball for each team. Ravens were lucky to get the extra goal but did their best to mount a solid attack and earn the win.

Parramatta Raptors vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Druids snuck past Raptors with a 1-0 win over Raptors. Good tight game on wettish ice decided by a great finish to Dom Colyer. Breaking with a good run through the middle, Dom stopped, propped, beating a flying defender before turning and smacking a clean shot to the back of the net off his back hand. The sole goal the difference between the teams. Druids 1-0.

Druids B take Game 1 vs Penguins
Druids B vs. The Penguins by Matt Hellyer
Good 2-1 win for Druids B over The Penguins. Goals to Dom Colyer and Joel Robson. Should be a good rematch next week as Druids and The Penguins play again. Bit like the NHL finals series.

Tigers vs. Ice Devils by Josh Burton
The last game of the night put the Ice Devils standing across the ice with the Tigers The action early was high energy as both teams looked for possession, with equal portions of play spent in each defensive area. Ice Devils were first score, via Reese, for a 1-0 lead. Attacks were aplenty, as Ice Devils were happy to hold possession, whilst the Tigers focused their speed on the counters. The second half was much of the same, except for 2 goals disallowed by Josh, one for off the foot, another off the hand into the goals. With the score still 1-0, Tigers looked for the tying goal but to no avail, Ice Devils 1-0 win.

A Draw for Iceatopes and DruidsC
Journeymen vs. Dugongs by Scott Powell
After surviving by the skin of our teeth at the last encounter, the Dugongs knew they were going in for another tough game against the Journeymen. However the Journeymen played all but the final few minutes down a player, not that it felt like it! Journeymen controlled the tempo of the first half and took a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to a barnstorming solo run. The Dugongs used their number advantage to better use in the second half, Nathan scoring a double in the space of 2 minutes early on to put the Dugongs just ahead. Journeymen fought back once again and looked certain to score on more than one occasion, but couldnt get it past the keeper. The game was only sealed in the last ten seconds when Scott slotted in a pass from Nathan. Another competitive game, especially being a player down for as long as they were. Dugongs 3-1 at fulltime.

DruidsC vs. Iceatopes by Phillip Taggart
A close match this week between both teams saw the match go into extra time. Iseatopes opened up the game with the first goal quickly followed by an equaliser by the Druids. The score stayed equal untill the second half where Iceatopes put in a second. As the match closed to the wire Druids put in another equaliser seeing the game through to extra time. After a nail biting extra time with many close attempts from the Iceatopes druids defence managed to keep it to a 2 all draw at full time.

DruidsC vs. Iceatopes by Sam Cook
A tough match tonight for the second clash between these two teams this season. The Iceatopes led strongly, scoring the first goal of the night, but it was soon equalised by Chris for the Druids. The second half saw the Topes leading again with a second shot which sent the goalie flying, but Joel responded for the Druids to even up the score. It came down to extra time, and an early goal by the Topes was disallowed. There were several more near misses for the Topes but no other goals were scored, resulting in a 2 all draw.

Druids Get a Rare Victory over Sonics
Richmond Ravens vs. Parramatta Raptors by Louis Sultana
Raptors against Ravens in the first game of the night. The greasy surface made playing conditions tough which slowed the game down. Both teams served multiple penalties in the first half. During a stint of 4 on 4, the Raptors' Reece Shepherd and Daniel Wong combined for the first goal. The second half and both teams had their chances but could not convert. FT Raptors 1-0 - their first win of the season.

Werrington County Sonics vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Druids grabbed a rare win over the always in form Sonics with a 2-1 Girl Power Win. Midway into the first period Allie Hewett (nee Camac-Benson) scored the first goal picking up a rebound and flicking it past the keeper. Sonics replied just before half time with a goal to Dee Scarano. With the game in the balance both teams were creating good chances. Eventually with 14 to go in the game a Bec Davis shot from out wide found the back of the net. 2-1 to Druids. All goals in the game to the girls !!

Tigers Over Druids B
DruidsB vs. Tigers by Ryan Findlayson
Both teams had a significant amount of players recovering from playing the A grade game immediately before this game. But still this game was reasonably fast. Druids opening the scoring midway through the first half through Damian colyer. Tigers responded shortly after with Ryan Findlayson squeezing one through from out wide. It remained this way for the rest of normal time, a lot of the static shoreline was due to some great keeping from both sides. In OT Tigers got the territory advantage, and it stayed that way. Eventually Bec Davis sweeping a wide ball through a defenders legs and into the goals for a 2-1 Tigers OT win.

Rhinos vs. Ice Devils by Josh Burton
The last game of the night showcased the Ice Devils against the Rhinos for the second straight week. The Ice Devils looking to bounce back after a lacklustre performance the previous week, without the help of Marc, put the girls subs were re-established with Bec returning. The match had the traditonal 'feeling out' process even though we all saw each other 7 days, and being a inter-club rivalry, added to the importance of the W. Both teams used their speed and talent to get attacks going with no luck, early on, with some good defence and saves from the goaltenders making for an interesting night. Ice Devils changed the strategy, running its attack through Reece with success as the counter attack began to work. The Devils succeeded in scoring late in the half as Josh scored through a counter attack/pass inside to the open girl/Bec and Dominique both fighting for an touch, with Bec reaching for the touch that lead to the shot being converted for a 1-0 lead at half time. Ice Devils reveled in their new confidence, with Rhinos altering the strategy for the counter attack. Although, the Ice Devils scored again to take the lead to 2-0 with a shot from Josh, that apparently was lucky to sneak past the goalie. The game shut down with both teams working more on formations, with Rhinos scoring on the buzzer for a Ice Devils 2-1 win. A good win by the Ice Devils, to avenge last week's loss. Rhinos look forward a week of rest, while the Ice Devils take on the Tigers

Dugongs vs. Iceatopes by Scott Powell
A tough tight match between the two teams saw the game go down to wire. Joel opened the scoring late in the first half before Grant equalised for the Topes minutes later. With the game on a knifes edge, Aaron smacked in the Dugongs second goal, followed rapidly with a second goal to Joel. Grant also scored a double, bringing the game back to a single goal deficit, and for the last few minutes tried every trick in the book to find a third, but the Dugong defence held out to come away with a narrow 3-2 win.

Parramatta Raptors vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
Rangers started strongly as they attempted to play an up-tempo game against a Raptors side with limited subs, dominating the first half creating many chances only to be denied by the goalkeeper. Raptors surged late in the first half and early in the second half, applying plenty of pressure on the Rangers defence and creating several chances of their own, again only to be denied by good goalkeeper from the Colyer brothers. The match got a bit willing and physical as the clock wound down, and the short break between fulltime and overtime seemed to calm both teams, as Raptors showed great composure and patience in attack, only to be denied by the post, before Bryan Macklin swooped on a loose ball and carried it across half way, shooting low and true from long distance to give Rangers a hard-fought 1-0 win in OT.

Sonics Setting the Pace
Parramatta Raptors vs. Werrington County Sonics by Tim Brown
Tim Brown took a tripping penalty putting Raptors on the power play. Only 10 seconds left on the clock and Raptors hammered home the first goal of the match to take a 1-0 lead. Sonics equalised before the break with Jason Wheeler and Kerry Baxter exchanging passes to open up the defence Jason beating the keeper to get Sonics on the board. In the second half Sonics took the lead. Tim Brown working a give and go with Kerry Baxter then flicking the ball past the keeper on the second attempt. Then the win was sealed with shot from distance producing a rebound and Sally Yabsley on hand to finish. Sonics winning 3 goals to 1.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Penrith City Rangers by Saxon Hooper
Rangers took an early lead with Bryan Macklin belting in a long Ranger from the blue line. Druids took 10 minutes to equalise with Ryan Findlayson firing in a long range shot which dipped nicely and sqeezed under the keeper, to roll along the goal line. Fortunately Druids Belgium import Anke vermeulen was on hand to 'tap it in' and make the score 1-1 at half time. After half time the game fluctuated back and forth until Rangers started to lose players to injury. 3 Goals in the last 8 minutes sealed the 4-1 vitory for Druids with 2 goals to Dom Colyer and 1 to Saxon Hooper.

Devils take out Druids 2 Weeks Running
Glenmore Park DruidsB vs. Ice Devils by Josh Burton
The first match of the night, was the Ice Devils and DruidsB in match 2 of the season and a rematch from the week before Easter. The match started with troops down for the DruidsB, and instructions for calculated patience for the Ice Devils in the early proceedings. This proved successful, as the Ice Devils produced their first goal. Not to be outdone, the DruidsB went on a counter attack within the first 10 minutes after some good defence and produced their first mention on the scoreboard. Luck failed on the last access pass for both teams, until Ice Devils went ahead just before half time for a 2-1 lead. 2nd Half, produced more attacks and counter-attacks, but the last pass usually didnt work out. Ice Devils 2 - DruidsB 1, Full Time. A good match from both sides, with Ice Devils improving after injuries and new players force a new style of play. DruidsB have the bye next week, while the Ice Devils play the Rhinos next week.

Rhinos vs. The Penguins by Mark Ferrara
The third game between the Rhinos and Penguins began with some fierce competition and each team got some great attempts on goal in the first half. The Penguins got a few one-on-ones which did well to force the Rhinos keeper out, yet they were denied each time. The Rhinos thought they made a breakthrough goal late in the first half but were denied by the keeper scrambling to freeze the ball on the goal line. Nil all at the end of the first half. Second half was tense and the Rhinos were first to score with 2 minutes remaining with a goal from Sara, passed through by Ryan and Mark. They couldn't hold onto this lead though and with about 15 seconds to go, the Penguins got an equaliser. Next was the second overtime in as many matches for the two teams. The Rhinos were cautious in overtime to prevent their last OT loss to the Penguins from happening again. This paid off as the final goal was scored by Jarad who cleaned up a miss-hit from the Penguins defence and walked the ball to the goals. Rhinos winning 2-1 in overtime. Great game Penguins - thanks for another close contest.

Dugongs over the Knights
Dugongs vs. Knights Who Say Broomball by Scott Powell
Another tight match between the new Knights and lighter Dugongs on what was the first batch of decent Tuesday night ice all season. Dugongs started the evenings scoring with Joel completing a solo run before the Knights struck back to even the scores through Marty. Joel completed his double just before half time thanks to a centimetre perfect pass from Aaron to give the Dugongs the slimmest of leads at the break. After seeing Joel score 5 in 2 games, Nathan finally got his act together with help from Mark to make the scores 3-0 before slotting in his second minutes later. Knights threw everything at the Dugongs, but Sarah and rookie Hayley countered every run. Dugongs winning 4-1 in a game where the scoreline did not reflect the game played. Thanks to the Knights, see you in the final round!

Rangers too good for Raptors
Parramatta Raptors vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
Rangers started strongly against the Raptors, taking an early lead after Bryn Shepherd converted a fast break opportunity, piercing through the Raptors defence to hammer the ball into the back of the net. Determined not to give up the lead, Rangers kept pressing for a second goal, which came after James Kristof sent the ball into the far corner of the goal, assisted by Bryn Shepherd and Luke Simmonds. Both teams had few opportunities to score after that as the match turned into a fairly defensive tussle, with the score remaining 2-0 as the final siren went.

The Penguins vs. Rhinos by James Kristof
Penguins came up against Rhinos for the second week in a row, and after being trounced 5-0 the previous week, Penguins were determined to make it a much closer game. Daniel Wong gave Penguins the early lead after capitalising off of a Scott Powell pass to make it 1-0. Penguins held on to the lead until the dying stages of the game, when Rhinos equalised through Ryan Priestly. The match went into OT where Penguins controlled the run of the play, Natasha Sheaves scoring the winning goal off of a James Kristof pass to give Penguins a hard-fought victory.

Dugongs beat Wraith
Dugongs vs. Wraith by Scott Powell
With games between the two sides traditionally being close contests, both sides looked to get away to a good start, testing out each others defences. After some early attacking runs from the Wraith, super stand in Bree flicked the ball around behind goals to Nathan, who quickly passed onto Joel who went for a long run straight to the goals and giving the Dugongs a 1-0 lead. Persistent attack from the Dugongs lead to a deft Joel pass finding Scott in the deep for a long range goal to take the lead to 2-0. Another forward run and nice pass from Nathan found Joel who slotted it in for his second of the night. 3-0 to the Dugongs at halftime. Joel completed his hat trick early in the second half to give the Dugongs a 4-0 lead. Both teams went all out in the final ten minutes, the Wraith unlucky to find the back of the net, strong scrambling defence from both teams ensuring no further goals were scored. Thanks to the Wraith for another friendly encounter and big thanks to Bree for backing up so we had a team on the ice.

Dugongs take out iceatopes
Dugongs vs. Iceatopes by Scott Powell
Traffic chaos on the M4 resulted in very late arrivals for the Dugongs, who only just managed to field a starting squad to take on a low numbered Topes team. Neither team sure what to make of each other in the opening minutes with plenty of testing runs and attempts to conserve energy. Dangerously coming to play on his wedding anniversary, Mark called for a centre ball and slotted it home with ease to give the Dugongs a handy 1-0 lead. The Dugongs finally managed to field a full squad to make it an even 6 on 6 game, but the Topes hit a goal of their own through Grant to level the scores. Second half saw a lot of energy burnt up by both squads, each team trying to maintain possession and break away, neither having much success. Great defensive pressure from Mik and Sarah led to a stretch of Dugong offense that ultimately ended with a long range shot from Scott that slipped past the keeper to give the Dugongs the lead. Topes threw everything they had into attack in the final few minutes but couldnt find an equaliser. Great close game and looking forward to the rematch.

Dugongs With A Win over Druids C
Dugongs vs. DruidsC by Scott Powell
Another Tuesday, another night of terrible ice that had both teams looking like they were Wil. E. Coyote running in thin air. The Dugongs had the bulk of the possession, but the Druids defence was fantastic for a team in only their second outing. The Dugongs scoring two back to back goals in the final minutes of the first half, one each to Joel and Nathan. The Druids defence remained impressive for the second half, Aaron scoring late in the game for the Dugongs to finish up 3-0. Thanks to the Druids for a great game.

Dugongs go on an Undefeated Run
Dugongs vs. Journeymen by Scott Powell
The season kicked off with two returning teams from last season, both losing players in the off season. The Journeymen were to play a player down, the Dugongs losing some players to the new C grade team, the DruidsC. As is the norm between the two sides, it was a fast match with plenty of fast breaks and nice keeper saves. Both teams had periods of domination, but it was a single shot from Nathan that found the back of the net that proved to be the difference, a 1-0 win to the Dugongs. Thanks to the Journeymen for a great game to shake off those summer cobwebs.

Unfortunately in the second half the druids b continues to attack and score 4 more goals by Aaron parker, Nick Colyer, Joel Robson and his very first goal in broomball, write in the last seconds of the game Luke Jansen congrats! Sonics Win GF rematch
Richmond Ravens vs. Werrington County Sonics by Tim Brown
Sonics just managing to get four on the ice to get this game underway. Ravens exerted a lot of pressure with the extra player with Sonics clearing their zone and defending the redline when possible. Eventually Sonics full team arrived and they managed to survive without conceeding. The rest of the half really felt like Ravens were on the power play still their movement and passing making for some really frantic broomball, but no goals in the first half. In the second half Ben Robson was sent to the penalty bench, Ravens on the power play and this time converting their advantage scrambing it home after a shot past the near post rebounded off the back wall to the far post, 1-0 to Ravens. The Ravens were then called for a tripping penalty and Sonics managed to equalise, Jason Wheeler shooting the ball in for Dyhana Scarano to flick over the keeper, Kerry Baxter on the other post making sure the ball found the net. Sonics then took the lead with Tim Brown passing to Jason Wheeler on the break, Jason Wheeler driving between two defenders and then tucking the ball under the keeper - very similar to this. Sonics then sealed the result finally getting some good possesion in attack, Jason Wheeler able to cut into the slot and hit a shot through the crowd. Sonics winning 3-1.

Sonics v Druids
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington County Sonics by Tim Brown
It wouldn't be the opening game of the A grade broomball season if Sonics playing Druids. The corresponding game last season saw Sonics win 3 goals to nil. Druids getting the better of Sonics just a week ago with a 3-0 win in a pre-season match. This was an at times a frantic match with both teams holding their own and both James Kristof and Peter Yabsley in goals making scoring very difficult. In the end Sonics Girl Power won the day with Dhyana Scarano scoring the first goal assisted by Kerry Baxter and Ben Robson (not a girl), then a second scored by Kerry Baxter, assisted by Dhyana Scarano and Tim Brown (also not a girl). Both goals came in the first half. Druids unable to get back in the game though finishing strongly in the second half. Sonics winning 2 goals to nil.

Richmond Ravens vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
Ravens started the far better of the two teams, dominating the run of the play for the bulk of the first half as Rangers scrambled and struggled to get organised defensively. Ravens soon capitalised on their early dominance, scoring a goal that I did not actually see as I was getting a drink from my bag at the time, so I assume that it can only be described as the single-greatest goal scored in the history of all mankind. Although I do not have the evidence to back it up, I'm pretty sure it was scored in mid-air, reverse-stick, doing a backflip over three Rangers defenders, with eyes closed. 1-0 to Ravens at halftime. Rangers played a lot better in the second half, finally making an even contest of the match, creating several promising chances only to be denied by a tight Ravens defence, until Ash Welsh eventually tied the game up after receiving the ball unmarked on the backpost off of a Luke Simmonds pass from the corner. 1-1 at fulltime, the match headed to OT where neither team really took control, Ravens doing well to hold out Rangers in the last 90 seconds a player down after a penalty. The match ending with both teams sharing the points after OT finished at 1-1.

Druids B tackle Tigers
Druids B vs. Tigers by Matt Hellyer
As the new season commenced, so too did a new-look DruidsB team, with two new players (Luke and Dee), a new keeper (Shannon Vost) and a new player position strategy.DruidsB came out in force against an undermanned Tigers side and after the familiar cry of hell yeah play began with possession dominated in the early minutes by the green and blue, although it took them a while to find their feet and momentum to build. Eventually Tigers reached full strength and the playing field levelled somewhat. DruidsB mounted some good attempts at goals and were given a few good opportunities in front of the nets, but were unable to capitalise until late in the second half, when Nick collected a loose ball and chipped it past the Tigers keeper, Kevin not-so-Ninja Chen. All in all a hard fought game to set the tone for the season.DruidsB 1-0 over Tigers.

Ice Devils vs. The Penguins by Brett Ackling
Devils v's Penguins is always a good game. Its nice having Jimmy on the ice instead of in goals. First goal of the night went to Buckley off a pass from Brett. 2nd goal came not long after with Devils new recruit Reece scoring. 3rd gaol came just with Kuipers putting Brett on a break away for a hand thingy. Scoring opened quickly in the 2nd half with Brett scoring off a nice combo from Bec and Reece. There was then a tripping penalty a piece over the next 5 or so minutes before Brett combined with Josh to take the game to 5 nil. Just to top off the night with 10 seconds left Reece put Brett into space to score another hand thingy. Final score 6-nil. I'd say who we are looking forward to playing next week but some slack person, not naming anyone ( Hooper ) hasn't done the draw yet. Thanks Penguins for a good game and thanks Jimmy for the hug.
