Morlocks Reverse Final Round Result on Mad Cows
Morlocks unleased their big guns with Tracy Ivin (2 goals 1 assist) and Kerry Baxter (1 goal 2 assists) to dominate the the first ever womens grand final. Morlocks took an early lead and never let Mad Cows into the game. The final score was 4-0 reversing the 1-0 defeat by Mad Cows in the final round of the womens competition. Karen Roberts picked up the other goal for Morlocks.
Well done to all the girls who competed, hopefully next season we can do better than four teams.

Mules over ThunderDucks in Sudden Death Overtime !!
A very even game of the highest quality. Neither side could crack the other's defensive unit. Up back for ThunderDucks Terry Giovas held the line while Ben Eagleston and Dave Buckley played a similar role for Mules. Peter Yabsley and Sam Boer combined well up front creating but not converting opportunities. Likewise John Magnisalis, Kosta Sourlas and Con Sourlas created many chances for ThunderDucks. At the end of regular time the score was 0-0 but could have easily been 4-4. Sudden death overtime was called for to decide the Mens grand final between the undefeated pool winners. Four on four with a heap of pressure by both teams at both ends. Finally Sam Boer cracked home the winner for Mules.

18-DEC-2001

Shoes Order
I was told the shoes were sent on the 24/10/2001 by boat with a 4-6 week delivery time. As of the 4th of December we are into our 5th week of waiting. I expect mail from the US is under a little more scrutiny due to recent events however I am hopeful they still deliver on time. So with luck we will have them next week.. but dont quote me on that. Just be aware if you havent paid please do so as soon as possible. I paid for them on my personal credit card when they were delivered.

04-DEC-2001
Womens Results
Steelers lost on forfeit to Morlocks. Steelers were battered and bruised from their grand final win and couldnt put a team on the ice. The list of injuries included Neck, Broken Toe, Sunburn, Illness and Honeymoons. Steelers may need some players for next weeks game also so if you are keen, give me a buzz.

Scorpions defeated Mad Cows by 1 - 0 in a very good game. Mad Cows continually pressured the Scorpions but could not crack the defence. Shannon Vost scored for Scorpions and that was enough to win the game.

04-DEC-2001
Mens Results
ThunderDucks 4 defeated Sky Steelers 3
Dung Beetles 2 defeated Wild Veritas 1
Mules 5 defeated Antipodes 0

Mules with two wins look set to win Pool B, while Pool A is well and truly undecided after only 1 completed round.

Division C Finals - Polar Bears vs Golden Falcons
Played on a rough dry cut which quickly became slippery for the broomabll shoes which are designed to work on glass ice (water down). Raoul Barbon got Polar Bears off to a great start scoreing a fine solo goal. A good sized crowd cheered loudly when Golden Falcons evened it up shortly after. The game then flowed back and forth with both teams creating opportunities but being unable to convert. Golden Falcons then scored again and mangaged to hold out Polar Bears for the entire second half to take the C Division shield.
Goal Scorers for Golden Falcons - Sean Mitchell and Mark Slater.
Goal Scorer for Polar Bears - Raoul Barbon.

Division B Finals - Guinness vs Steelers
Guinnes started strongly being all over Steelers in the early stages. The early pressure paid off as Dane Hanesen made a good run down the right wing before flipping it in for Jo Mitchell to tip past the keeper. The huge Guinness crowd roared the classy move. However Steelers steadied and started to press Guinness creating some sustained pressure. Guinness's defence held well until a wayward shot deflected off the back of a player and past the sliding defence. Again the crowd roared. The game continued in the same vain with both teams mounting pressure on each other until Steelers broke the deadlock to take the 2-1 lead. Guinness had some late chances (really late.. in the last 20 seconds) to even it up but Steelers who had played 3 sudden death finals to make the Grand Final held them out to win 2-1 in their first season of Broomball.
Steeler Goal Scorers - Tim Goode and Justin Bullen.
Guinness Goal Scorer - Jo Mitchell.

Division A Finals - ThunderBirds vs Sky Dragons
A repeat of the winter season A Division grand final. Thunderbirds took the early lead 1-0. Con Sourlas quickly made it 2-0 with 10 minutes to go in the 1st half. A high stick by ThunderBird Kosta Sourlas saw ThunderBirds short handed for the 1st time in the match with 4 minutes to go in the 1st half. John Skiadas of Sky Dragons threaded a nice pass to Harry Sotiropoulos who with a one handed shot chipped it nicely over the keeper from close range. No goals in the second half saw ThunderBirds reverse the result of last season.
Thunderbirds Goal Scorers - Saxon Hooper and Con Sourlas.
Sky Dragons Goal Scorer - Harry Sotiropoulos.

Division B Finals
Minor premiers Girl Germs took on fifth placed Steelers in the B division preliminary final. Steeler Peter Matolich grabbed an early goal from a break away and although Steelers didn't have much possession for the remainder of the game, held Girl Germs out for a 1-0 victory. The win puts Steelers into the grand final vs Guinness next week. Should be a great game with Steelers coming from fifth place to reach the final and Guinness finishing second. Guinness finished last year in third while this is Steelers 1st season.

20-NOV-2001
Division A Finals
Wild Buffaloes vs Sky Dragons in the A division preliminary final. Sky Dragons scored first with Tracy Ivin passing to Harry Sotiropoulos who blasted it from out wide past keeper Cliff Pace. The game then flowed back and forth with both teams showing exceptional attacking and defensive skills. Finally Wild Buffaloes managed to mount some continual pressure and Tim Brown scored from a Steve Timmins pass 1-1 with four minutes to go. Some good chances created in the last few minutes but neither team could convert in the dieing minutes. Fulltime 1-1. Sudden death overtime for the second week running went badly for Wild Buffaloes with Tracy Ivin again combining with Harry Sotiropoulos to sink Wild Buffaloes 2-1. Sky Dragons advance to play ThunderBirds in next weeks A grade grand final. In 4 meetings this season they are locked at 2 wins a piece.

20-NOV-2001
Division C Finals
Penguins against Golden Falcons in the C division preliminary final. Golden falcons got the opening goal through Mark Slater after some good pressure. The game the switched back and forth with both teams unable to capitalise on good chances. Penguins finally evened it up early in the second half and again the game went from end to end. With only a few seconds to go and Penguins deep in attack the ball came from the Golden Falcons keeper for them to break and score with 3.3 seconds on the clock. However after some consultation between refs it was decided that the ball had come forward off the hand of the keeper and hence the goal did not count. Again another great final to enter 4 on 4 sudden death overtime. Neither team could crack the other's defence for a long time. Until finally Mark Slater grabbed the winner for Golden Falcons. So Golden Falcons go into their first grand final in their first season against Polar Bears who finished 5th in last years B division.

13-NOV-2001
Division A Finals
Crusaders took on Sky Dragons in the A division Second Semi Final. In a very controlled and skillful game Sky Dragons out pointed Crusaders 3-2 to advance to the preliminary final next week. Crusaders who were last years B grade runners up have been eliminated for Summer 2001 and finish 4th in their 1st season of A grade.
In the qualifying final minor premiers Wild Buffaloes squared off against the ThunderBirds. ThunderBirds created good early chances but coudn't convert. Steve Timmins being Johnny on the spot grabbed a loose pass and flicked it high past ThunderBirds keeper Andrew Nicholson 1-0. Wild Buffaloes then mounted raid after raid but through tough defence from Angela Nasr and Karen Roberts, ThunderBirds kept them out. On a counter attack some strong work in front of goals from Kosta Sourlas grabbed a scrambled goal. Score 1-1 with 6 minutes to go. With only 4 minutes on the clock Wild Buffalo Tim Brown broke from a defensive face off to score, 2-1. In an effort to equalise ThunderBirds pulled their goal keeper and with 5 seconds on the clock, goal keeper Andrew Nicholson tied the game away. Four on Four sudden death overtime decided the game. Thunderbirds finally winning 3-2. ThunderBirds through to their second successive A division grand final. Wild Buffaloes now face Sky Dragons in the preliminary final next week. Winner through to face ThunderBirds.

13-NOV-2001
Division B Finals
Indians tackled Steelers in a highly entertaining and fast game. Indians started on fire, peppering the Steelers goal. Only some great saves by Steelers keepers.. stand in Peter Matolic and then Todd Boneiface (and some handy use of the iron) prevented Indians gaining the perfect start. Steelers soaked up the early pressure and started to create chances of their own. Justin Bullen combined with Tim Goode for one goal and some slick passing resulted in another for Justin Bullen. Indians didnt give up there with Scott Murray hammering one home making it 2-1 with 8 minutes to go. However Marissa Flavell scored her first broomball goal to secure the win for Steelers 3-1. Indians are eliminated and Steelers move into next weeks preliminary final.
A very eager Guinnes played Girl Germs in the B division qualifying final. In a very even game the only score resulted in a defensive lapse by Girl Germs which allowed Dane Hansen to run through and hammer home the winner. Guinness now move into their first B grade grand final after being eliminated in the preliminary final and finishing third last season. Girl Germs now take on the fast finishing Steelers in next weeks B divison preliminary final.

13-NOV-2001
Division C Finals
Snow Flakes vs Golden Falcons in the C division second semi final. On the first game slippery ice it was a dour game with Snow Flakes defending gamely mainly through the efforts of Catherine Mitchell and Daini Campbell. However Golden Falcons finally cracked the tough defence twice with Mark Slater scoreing 1st and Tom Savage sealing the win 2-0. Snow Flakes have been eliminated but will be back next season in C division. Golden Falcons move into next weeks C division preliminary final.
Penguins challenged Polar Bears in the C division qualifying final. A very fast game with Eric Greentree providing good go forward for Penguins. In all Polar Bears scrambled better in front of goals with Mark Kim and Eric Fry picking up goals. Polar Bears have qualified for the C division grand final in two weeks while Penguins take on Golden Falcons in the C division Preliminary final.

07-NOV-2001
Division A Finals
Sawawawas became the first team eliminated from the Division A finals defeated 2 - 0 by Crusaders. Crusaders stiffled their attack with swarming defence. Overall a fast and furious pace with Sawawas never looking out of the game but not being able to convert their plentiful chances.
ThunderBirds booked a spot in the qualifying final against top of the table Wild Buffaloes after they just got past Sky Dragons 2 goals to 1 in the first Semi Final. Con Sourlangos scored first for Sky Dragons. Thunderbirds equalised a little bit later and Daniel Roberts put them in front just before half time. There were no goals in the very tight second half.
Sky Dragons now take on Crusaders in the second semi final with the loser elimnated from the series.

07-NOV-2001
Division B Finals
A red hot Guinness decimated the Indians 4 goals to nil in the B division first semi final. Indians were powerless to stop a rampant Guinness. Goals to Susan Memongle, Matty Robson, David Daffy and Jo Mitchell showed how well Guinness shared the ball. Guinness now take on Girl Germs in the qualifying final.
In probably the match of the night, fifth placed Steelers and fourth placed Ice Breakers fought out a scoreless draw. Both sides had plenty of opportunity to break the dead lock but some big keeping efforts by Ice Breakers Cliff Pace and Steelers Todd Boneiface sealed the result at nil nil. Sudden death 4 on 4 overtime was called for to break the deadlock. The game flowed back and forth however it was a nice pass from Chantal Knowles which Justin Bullen put into the back of the net which gave the Steelers the win in the elimination final. Steelers now take on Indians in the second semi final with the loser eliminated.

07-NOV-2001
Division C Finals
For the third time this season Penguins took on Snow Flakes. With them at one win a piece this promised to be a good game. Penguins scored first and Snow Flakes hit back to make it 1 all. However Penguins pulled away to finally win 3-1. Goals were scored by Dave Manson, Brett Mitchell and Jay Schmidt for Penguins while Kurt Briggs scored for Snow Flakes. Penguins now play Polar Bears in the qualifying final next week.
Golden Falcons took on Veritas in the C grade elimination final. Unfortunately for Veritas they were very short of players and Golden Falcons had a full roster. Golden Falcons finally overwhelmed Veritas four goals to one and now play Snow flakes in the secon semi final. Goals for Golden Falcons were scored by Sean Mitchell 2, Mark Slater and Tom Savage.

07-NOV-2001
Sawawawas, Ice Breakers and Veritas Eliminated

On the other side of the coin the winner of the Wild Buffaloes and Thunderbirds game will qualify for the grand final on the 26/11/2001. The B grade qualifying final between Guinness and Girl Germs promises to be a cracker. In the last meeting Girl Germs got away with a one nil win. Polar Bear will hope to take their recent winning form into their qualifying final against Penguins. Should be a great week of games next week. Bring friends and family.. big crowds are fun to play in front of.

Polar Bears upset Steelers
Steeler Janine Lowe scored first from a Justin Bullen pass then the Polar Bears came back to win 2-1. Polar Bear and broomball debutant Kathryne Vugrinec had a shot rebound back which she passed to an unmarked Mark Kim, who put it in the back of the net. Then with just a few seconds to go in the 1st half, Ceez Kim of Polar Bears blocks a shot and fires a pass to Mark Kim who fast breaks, loses the ball then regains and scores as time ran out for half time. Steelers attacked hard in the final minutes but the Polar Bears kept them out. There was a big boisterous crowd which enjoyed a very exciting game.
In the other game Penguins held out for a little while before Guinness scored their first, then they just kept scoring. It could have been more but for some excellent work by Penguins substitute goal keeper Brett Mitchell late in the second half.

02-NOV-2001
