A Division - Grand Final
Werrington County Sonics Claim their 3rd A division Championship
Grand Final - Penrith City Rangers vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
Penrith City Rangers having completed their best regular season yet, moved straight into the grand final with a shaky 1-0 win over an under strength Druids outfit. Werrington COunty Sonics defeated Blacktown Butchers 1-0 in the elimination final and got past Druids in the preliminary final 1-0 as well. So 2nd vs 3rd to decide the A division title. Game started in a whirl of activity, both teams going flat out. Sonics got early goals in both their earlier finals and were applying a lot of pressure to do the same in this game. Rangers pushing into attack turned the ball over and Tim Brown broke through the centre. The cover couldnt get to him and he put a low hard shot into the far corner. 1-0 Sonics. Rangers finally settled after that and were able to create some of their own chances, the best coming late in the half when Scott Murray got 2 minutes for interference. The Sonics defence stayed tight and no further scores resulted in the first half. 1-0 Sonics half time. Just five minutes into the 2nd period Jason Wheeler was able to make a break down the wing, drawing the defence he found an open Tim Brown in front of the net. A nice draw and off hand flick found the net giving Sonics a 2-0 lead and a handy safety net. The final 15 was all Rangers offence, however Sonics have a very tight zone D and they repelled everything Rangers threw at them. Final score 2-0 giving Sonics their 3rd A division title. The individual points awards for A grade went to Tracy Ivin of Rangers and Saxon Hooper of Druids.

The Penguins B Division Champions for 3rd Season in a Row
Grand Final - The Penguins vs. Huskies by Saxon Hooper
The Penguins had won the last 2 grand finals in B divison and were looking good to be the 1st team to threepeat the title. In their way Huskies who have been building all season and were finishing with a wet sail, defeating The Penguins in the last round of the season and comfortably accounting for Phoenix and Team Icebucket in their finals. The game started well for Huskies, setting up their offence and creating chances, The Penguins best bet looked from fast breaks. Despite Huskies early pressure The Penguins were first on the board. Setting up their offence from the top James Kristof put in a dangerous ball to his net players, where Tim Roffey was able to scramble lose the ball into the net. 1-0 Penguins after 12 minutes. Huskies had a chance late in the period when Daniel Wong was sent for tripping, however Penguins killed the penalty well. 1-0 half time. The 2nd half was similer to the first, Huskies working into attack, and Penguins countering quickly. The Penguins grabbed their 2nd goal on a good break out, Tim Roffey finding Daniel Wong who slotted a nice pass to the breaking Jason Wheeler. Wheeler slotted the goal. 2 nil down and 13 minutes to go Huskies gave it their all. Finally the pressure paying off with a nice break to Tim Harvey who held off the defence and put a back hand flick past the keeper. 2-1 Penguins with only 1 minute 18 of stop time remaining. Huskies went hard for the final minute but couldnt get the score and The Penguins held on to threepeat. Great win for The Penguins. Congratulations to the B grade points award winners Bec Davis from Huskies and Chris Dezman from Team IceBucket.

Carney Clownz Win their First C Division Title !
Grand Final - Carney Clownz vs. Snow Cones by Saxon Hooper
Carney Clownz have finally found the right formula for C grade, finishing on top of the ladder and winning straight through to the Grand Final. Snow Cones in their 2nd season of broomball were winless in their 1st season and were happy to win a few games in their 2nd season to be over the moon just making it to the final. Clownz made all the early running but the Snow Cones defending hard, throwing their bodies into the path of the clownz shots. Finally though after 7 minutes Tim Harvey put Carney Clownz on the board. The goal didnt dent Snow Cones enthusiasm and they kept defending hard, looking for a counter attack. Unfortunately for Snow COnes the 2nd goal came with only a minute on the clock. Nick Kesby flicking home a rebound. 2-0 half time to Clownz. The 2nd half started with Snow Cones in control. A few good chances, not converted unfortunately. A goal here to Snow Cones would have turned the match, they had momentum and a goal may have given them lift to go on with it. However the Clownz defence held and Tim Harvey put the game beyond doubt with six to go. A very convincing 3-0 win to Carney Clownz taking out their first C title. Well done to Snow Cones for making the grand final in just their 2nd season. Congrats to Alyson CamacBenson and Tim Harvey for taking out the C Points Award.

Womens Division - Grand Final
The Femmes Clinch Title with a Late Goal to Sara Kristof
Grand Final - Crimson Furies vs. The Femmes by Saxon Hooper
After two rounds of competition with no game decided by more than a single goal, this womens final was going to be tight. Good play from both teams, saw good structure on attack, good forecheck pressure and nice defence. Neither team giving anything away. With only a couple to go in the first a high stick penalty to Dhyana Scarano put The Femmes on the power play, however they were unable to convert. 0-0 half time. Second half continued as the first, the girls showing good skills and playing with great structure. Just as it looked like we were going into overtime, Jo Mitchell carrying the ball behind the goals, beating a player and lobbing a pass into the slot. Sara Kristof lept high, brought the ball down and flicked in one motion, too quick for the defence and the keeper. 1-0 with only 2 minutes to go. Furies scrambled hard to equalise and had a couple good chances in the last minute but didnt get a goal. 1-0 and the womens title to The Femmes. Great competition by the girls, very good attendance to every game, and every game was a very good contest. Hopefully you will be all back next season to compete in it again.

Ticklers Hold Out Terminators
Grand Final - Ticklers vs. Terminaators by Saxon Hooper
Ticklers unhappy about finishing first and going straight into the grand final as they missed out on an extra mens game. Up against Terminators who had won the last couple of mens grand finals. Game started fast and furious with Ticklers settling first, playing with better structure. Terminators always dangerous on the counter with plenty of quicks. 4 minutes in Ticklers on the power play, unconverterd. 7 minutes in Ticklers score through Peter Yabsley, with hand thingy goal from out wide. Just 4 minutes later Ticklers had their 2nd goal, with a beautifully worked fast break, players drawing and passing to find Liam Golding on the end to chop it in past the beaten keeper. 2-0 half time to Ticklers. Terminators hit back early in the 2nd with a goal to Dom Colyer. Energising the Terminators they took it up a notch and this game now looked like it would go to the wire. With six to go though Ticklers iced the game with a goal to Marc Kuipers who put his own rebound away. 3-1 win to Ticklers. Good mens comp will be back again next season.. book it in !!

Sonics Join Rangers in the A Final
Preliminary Final - Werrington County Sonics vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Sonics started perfectly as the Druids defence didnt switch proper and Scott Murray was left open at the blue line. Still with a fair bit to do he cracked a blinder which rocketed into the back of the net, Sonics up 1 nil barely seconds into the game. Sonics maintained the pressure as Druids sorted out their defence, finally settling Druids began to mount some offence. Sonics defence staying tight and denying all chances. With only 3 minutes on the clock Kerry Baxter took an obstructive fall penalty and Druids went on the power play. Some good chances but no result for Druids. 2nd half saw Druids more desperate and most the play was in Druids offensive end. Still they could not crack the defence. Both teams traded penalties, but the penalty kills were good by both teams. Druids had some good late chances, with a couple saves off the goal line, however none found the net. 1-0 win to Sonics into the grand final vs Penrith City Rangers 2.45 Saturday.

Huskies Roll On !!
Preliminary Final - Huskies vs. Team IceBucket by Saxon Hooper
Team IceBucket decimated by injury, travel and work committments up against a fast finishing Huskies team. With all the advantages Huskies new star recruit Tim Harvey opened the scoring for Huskies just minutes in. Five minutes later a ball over the top had Huskies keeper coming out to cut it off and Tim harvey sprinting to get to it, they both missed it and it rolled gently into the net. 2-0 Huskies, Saxon's pass becoming a shot and a goal. Score remained 2-0 until half time. Tim Harvey got his 2nd goal just 4 minutes into the 2nd half giving huskies a 3 goal lead and some nice breathing space. With 10 to go Luke Simmonds put the game beyond doubt making it 4-0. Then with 1 to go Tim harvey set up Glen ButlerFleming who turned and shot and made it a 5-0 win for Huskies. Huskies move into the grand final with impressive form, beating the previously undefeated Penguins in the final round 2-0, Phoenix in the elimination final 3-0 and a 5-0 preliminary final win over Team IceBucket. The Penguins vs Huskies in the B division grand final 3:30pm Saturday.

Snow Cones hold out Buzz !!
Preliminary Final - Snow Cones vs. Buzz by Saxon Hooper
Both teams in their first year of broomball have done well to make the C division preliminary final. Buzz shocking Devil Knights in the elimination final and Snow cones coming of spirited defeat from Carney Clowns in the qualifying final. Marc Kuipers put snow Cones in front after 12 minutes. Just seconds later he was in again 2-0 Snow Cones, the large crowd making plenty of noise. Buzz werent done with though and with only 9 seconds until half time Steve Sadler halved the lead. 2-1 Cones at 1/2 time. Just after the break Marc Kuipers restored Snow Cones 2 goal lead and completed his hat trick in the process. Buzz picked up the pressure and finally broke through with a goal to Leanne Sadler with just under 3 minutes to go setting up a tigh tense finish. With only seconds on the clock a break away saw Buzz with agreat chance to equalise, however the Snow Cones keeper came up big and made the save sending Snow Cones into their first grand final. 2pm Saturday Carney Clownz vs Snow Cones. Clownz won the last round but Snow COnes will carry in some good momentum. Should be a cracker.. get down and see it.

The Femmes win OT Thriller
Semi Final - Silver Snipers vs. The Femmes by James Kristof
The winner of this match between Silver Snipers and The Femmes would meet Crimson Furies in the Womens final this coming Saturday, so in other words, all was to play for. Silver Snipers came out of the box well, dominating possession and territory and created the best of the opportunities in the first half, however they were unable to convert, the scores remained locked 0-0 at halftime. The second half saw a complete reversal in the state of the game as The Femmes were all over the Silver Snipers defence. The Femmes held the ball in attack for the vast majority of the second half, until Jo Mitchell scored with a long range effort, 1-0 to The Femmes. That's how the scored stayed until very late in the piece, The Femmes looking as if they would now cruise into the Grand Final until Sally Yabsley unleashed a long-bomb that found the bottom corner of the net, to make it 1-1 at fulltime. Overtime was played in much the same way as the second half, The Femmes seeming to dominate possession, Sara Kristof hammering home the game winning goal to send The Femmes into the final. The 5 minutes of overtime ended with the scores at 2-1 to The Femmes.

A Division - Finals
Penrith City Rangers into their 2nd Grand Final
Elimination Final - Werrington County Sonics vs. Blacktown Butchers by Jason Wheeler
The finals series kicked off with the A-Grade elimination final between the third placed Sonics and fourth placed Butchers. It was also a replay of last season's Grand final which Butchers won 2-1. From the outset both sides were pushing for an early goal and the skill level was impressive. Both teams had plenty of pace, so breakaways would be an option but would probably be easy to run down. Paul Stockbridge opened the scoring with a sweet deflection shot from a Tim Brown shot just inside halfway, the ball caught the deflection and snuck in for Sonics to take a 1-0 lead. Butchers came close to equalizing with a few near misses but were unable to outrun the Sonics cover defence (except for Louis, no one can catch him). Sonics maintained their advantage at half-time but a few tired faces signalled that it would be tough to hold out the typically fast finishing Butchers. However, Butchers struggled to maintain their composure in attack and the intense Sonics defence forced a few too many turn-overs. With 4 minutes left in the match and Sonics clinging to a one goal advantage, an incident occurred. The game was delicately poised and both sides started to go for everything. This resulted in a Sonics girl being forced into the boards. A couple of Sonics players took offence to this which resulted in some pushing and shoving and a perfectly civilised argument. Three players were sent off: 2 from Sonics for 2 minutes each and a Butcher for 7 minutes. The fracas left Butchers with a one-man advantage. The Sonics defence held firm, limiting the number of shots to a bare minimum, but there was a degree of good fortune in that Butchers pushed a few shots wide of the goals. For the final 2 minutes Sonics were back to full strength and a one man advantage which proved to be enough for a hard-fought 1-0 victory. Sonics now take on minor-premiers Druids for a place in Saturday's Grand Final against Rangers.

Qualifying Final - Glenmore Park Druids vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
Coming off the best regular season in their history, Rangers were only all too aware of the fact that this was the best chance they'd ever have to make a grand final as Druids were seriously undermanned, missing Saxon Hooper who'd only just come out of hospital that day, Ryan Findlayson and Linda Bell who were still on their honeymoon. However, Rangers were not expecting a cake-walk as Druids hold a very strong record against them, no matter what the line-ups were. And so the game, as a Qualifying final should be, was tight. Rangers started well but created few early opportunities and as the first half went on, Druids picked up on the tiring Rangers and applied strong pressure. However, they were unable to convert and somewhat against the run of play, Liam Golding opened up the scoring to give Rangers a 1-0 lead at halftime. Both teams were tired in the second half and it showed, the speed of the game slowing, with Rangers holding possession well in the latter stages of the match to hold out a desperate Druids attack, winning the match 1-0 and winning a spot in Saturday's Grand Final.

B Division - Finals
The Penguins again over Team IceBucket
Qualifying Final - The Penguins vs. Team IceBucket by James Kristof
The grudge match saga continued as these two teams faced-off for automatic qualification into the Grand Final. Buckets boasted a massive line-up, subs-a-plenty, while Penguins had the best showing for them in 2 months, but were still without Daniel Wong, Ben Roffey and goalkeeper virtuoso Chris Helderman. The teams were evenly matched throughout the whole game, both teams setting up well in both attack and defence, the best chances of the first half going to Buckets' when Liam Golding shaved the post with a strong shot and to Penguins' Tim Roffey whose backhanded flick shot was kept out only by a diving save from Buckets keeper Alex Crook. 0-0 at halftime as the tension mounted. Penguins started the second half strongly, creating several decent chances, James Kristof clipping the post from a long-range effort, but it was Shannan Heinitz who broke the deadlock midway through the second half, after receiving a pass from James Kristof and then running into the vacant centre, Shannan hammered home the opening goal. From then on Buckets tried to press but the Penguins defence was too organised and save for a missed opportunity by Kale Golding in the dying seconds, neither team looked as if they would score again. 1-0 to Penguins at full time as they make their third consecutive B grade Grand Final.

Elimination Final - Phoenix vs. Huskies by Bec Davis
Both teams played really well and posession was almost even for the eentire game. Huskies opened the scoring in the first 3 minutes of the game via Glen Butler-Fleming. Gemma Butler-fleming followed 2 minutes later with Jason Hall assisting. Phoenix picked up their defence and Huskies couldn't get anymore shots past them leaving the score 2-0 at half time. Phoenix were running up well but Huskies fought hard and were able to prevent most shots. The Second half proved to be no different from the first with Huskies scoring early again after just 30 seconds by Tim Harvey. We managed to hold our ground when Luke Simmonds was sent off for high sick, Phoenix taking advantage of the situation and having shot after shot at goal but no success. Just after Luke got back on Jason Hall was sent for a high stick but Phoenix didn't get many chances as Huskies maintained posession leaving the final score 3-0 Huskies.

Last Round before Finals
Werrington County Sonics vs. Richmond Ravens by Saxon Hooper
Richmond Ravens needed to win to have any hope of making the final and I think even still then needed Butchers to lose next game. They started well enough scoring first, Jo mitchell 1 on 1 with the keeper. Sonics picked up the effort and in the 2nd half equalised with a scorcher from Scott Murray. 1 all is how it stayed even after OT.

Blacktown Butchers vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
For Rangers, tonight saw the return of Luke Simmonds after 2 weeks in Perth and of Helen Smith after 2 months in Uganda, and with the finals beginning next week they were determined to put up a good showing against a Butchers team that perennially peaks at this time of the season. Both teams started well, setting up opportunities when they had the ball and both keeping strong in defence, the stage was set for a tight match. It looked as if the scores would remain tied at halftime until Tracy Ivin scrambled a goal with only a couple of seconds left, 1-0 at halftime. The second half again was evenly matched, both teams creating opportunities, but buoyed by the possibility of a double chance in the final series, Rangers held on for a 1-0 win, and will meet Druids in the Qualifying final next Monday night. Be there or be square!

Must Win Games for Ice Devils, Huskies and Phoenix
Raptors vs. Ice Devils by Saxon Hooper
Davin Harvey opened the scoring for Raptors, however Ice Devils wore them down for a 2-1 win.

Phoenix vs. Team IceBucket not by Cale Golding
Team IceBucket finished the season with a 2-1 win over Phoenix. Luckily Phoenix didnt need to win the last game to make the finals.

The Penguins vs. Huskies by Jason Hall
Huskies went into the last 2 weeks of the regular season needing to win 1 of the remaining 2 games to guarantee themselves a spot in the finals. A surprise loss in the first week to a resurgent Raptors team left the Huskies looking to be on very shaky ground. With it coming down to the last game against the Penguins the only undefeated team in the comp and with Gemma away (thankfully we found a sub from TIB's). The ground was looking more then shaky it was a Tokyo overpass in the middle of an earthquake. Some great strategic plans were made by the Huskies in regards to subs with Jason designing a brilliant structure. Obviously as I hadn't counted the keeper, this strategy then went out the window as soon the whistle blew. At this point we were considering forfeiting the match as the 5 nil loss prob would look better then the score line we were expecting. Penguins started as usual. With speed and precision passing they seemed to have 8 people on the ice. The Huskies scrambled well though and though it never looked pretty the Penguins were regularly denied any decent shots on goals. Huskies counter attacked were possible and once free found that there was a lot of open space between them and the Penguins keeper. The speed men on the Penguins managed to get back fast each time though and place enough pressure on the ball to allow the keeper to make some good saves. Simmo opened up the scoring early which gave the Huskies a sniff. This also seemed to change the game plan a bit for the penguins as they adopted a more defensive approach. Still running through onto the ball, but not committing the defenders as deep into the opponents half. The game became a bit of a tug of war then as the Penguins tried to claw one back and the Huskies tried to increase the buffer to 2 points. Penguins had a great chance in front of the Huskies goals with most of both teams scrambling for the ball. Repeated quick shots rebounding off the keeper and defenders as they somehow kept the ball out meant that it went to half time 1 - 0 to the Huskies. Mid way through the second half Tim Harvey scored a great goal for the Huskies making it 2 nil. Huskies turtled it a bit from here. Defending the lead and managing to hold out for the improbable win. So on to the finals against, I think the Phoenix and hopefully a charge to the grandfinal.

A Division - Week 18
Druids over Butchers
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Penrith City Rangers by Saxon Hooper
Not much to report in a 0-0 game. Druids understrength missing Linda Bell and Ryan Findlayson as the preserved themselves for their up coming wedding (wedding was awesome by the way.. down by the beach, very nice.. they off honeymooning now.. lucky them).. Typical stuff from both teams. Sometime during the 1st half Saxon Hooper appeared to score, ball hitting the back post and coming back out, unfortunately the refs didnt seem to see it that way and no goal was awarded. So 0-0 full time and into overtime. Druids controlled the posession and strung together enough passes to find Bec Davis unmarked on the goal mouth. 1-0 OT win to Druids, good result securing the minor premiership for Druids (I think).

Blacktown Butchers vs. Richmond Ravens by Saxon Hooper
A must win game for both teams ending 0-0. With these two teams fighting it out for the final finals berth a win next week is a must.

B Division - Week 18
Raptors Dent Huskies Playoff Chances
Raptors vs. Huskies by Louis Sultana
The Raptors were looking to salvage the most out of the remaining games in the season whilst the Huskies were looking to secure a finals position. It was end to end action for most of the first half as both sides struggled to maintain possession for sustained periods. Finally, after some good passing by the Raptors in the lead up, Davin Harvey opened the scoring with a superb shot from the blue line, Bec Collier with the only recorded assist. Huskies leveled the scores just before half time with a goal to Cameron Parkes. 1-1 halftime. The second half started much like the first, both sides unable to break the dead lock. As both teams began to tire, the game opened up, and the Raptors grabbed the lead through Louis Sultana, assisted by Bec Collier. The Raptors held on for a 2-1 victory.

The Penguins vs. Ice Devils by Saxon Hooper
Penguins returned to form with a comprehensive 5-0 victory against the Ice Devils. This was a must win game for Devils, while Penguins were already assured of a top two finish. On paper both teams looked competitive but it was the Devils lack of defence that proved to be the difference. Penguins took a 2-0 lead into half-time following a weight of possession and some precision passing. While the Devils appeared to tire, Penguins with only 1 sub seemed to become more energetic as the game progressed. Following some loose passing by the Devils, Penguins managed a few breakaways and added 3 more goals. In the end, 3 goals to myself and 1 each to Sara Kristof and James Kristof proved too much for the Ice Devils. With one round remaining, Penguins have secured the Minor Premiership but are still barely able to field a team.

Phoenix vs. Tigers by Andrew Chapman
Well, Phoenix finally won another game. I know you all enjoy reading about my extraordinary goals that are synonymous with a Phoenix win. You've waited with the excitement and anticipation to rival the moment when we found out the Spice Girls are touring again. But unfortunately my goal just wasn't meant to be. Today it's the Damo show. I believe I've previously described the Tigers's defence as The Wall. 4 of their players all crowd the net, making it almost impossible for a long shot, and quite difficult for close action. It was hard.... Matt and Luke had a try, Dom had a try, as did Erica. We just couldn't get anything past The Wall. I made a few plays. I managed to avoid The Wall, and my brilliant game skills showed as several flick shots and the occasional bash went directly to the keeper. He didn't have to move or anything. But my constant nagging about attackers needing to crowd the net paid off with Erica getting a cool deflection right on the post. 1-0 to Phoenix. The next goal went to the Tigers, with some nice ball work and an attack that took advantage of a lagging Phoenix defence. The goal after that was also for the Tigers, with a bullet that I was supposed to block going straight past my foot. Poor keeper didn't see it coming. 2-1 Tigers. Then Damo stepped up, had a shot on goal and stuffed it. Then he recovered the ball from behind the net, came back out front, and with a nice side step went around the defender to put a superb flick past the keeper. This set the score at 2-2, which couldn't be broken. Into overtimesomeone should blow overtime up. Damo and Dom played up front with Erica, and Katie covered the loose balls at the back. Most of the overtime was Phoenix. I think we only lost the ball 2 or 3 times. The final loss was looking worrying, as 3 Tigers players crossed the red line in unison. Damo held his cool though and intercepted a wayward pass, and had a run straight for the sole defender. A few seconds later, Damo executes a perfect hand-thingy to score his second of the night and seal the OT win for Phoenix. I'm hoping this is enough to keep us locked in for 4th place and spot in the finals.

Clowns over Buzz
Carney Clownz vs. Buzz by Josh Burton
Tonights match pitted the front-runners, the Carney Clownz against the lower-ranked Buzz in one of the last matches before Finals Broomball. A closely contested match through the first half saw the Clownz making efforts to gain first blood on the scoreboard, but to no avail. Buzz fought tremendously under the pressure the counter the attacks, but through good play and perseverance, Carney Clownz produced the first goal via a whipping, curling goal by Martin Brennan, this with less than a minute to go in the First half. First Half Score Carney Clownz 1 Buzz 0. The game intensified into the second half, as Buzz gained more of the possession and as more shots developed, more scary moments arose in the goal square. Only through good defending was the game close, until the 5 minutes, as the Carney Clownz went on a scoring run through Goals from Tim Harvey and 2 from Nick Kesby Final Score Carney Clownz 4 Buzz 0. Another good game from the Clownz, ensuring a Top Two finish, and a chance for the Minor Premiership. Great Performances from the team, with mention to Bec Davis, for playing out of her skin. We also thank the Snow Cones for the trade of Girls on the night. Thanks again. Carney Clownz 4 Martin Brennan (Goal/Assist), Tim Harvey (Goal), Nick Kesby (2 Goals) defeated Buzz 0

Druids over Butchers
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Blacktown Butchers by Ryan Findlayson
Butchers had the air of confidence amongst them, when they realised that Druids only had three girls and three guys, none of which would be Saxon Hooper. So the Druids all knew they had to put in a huge effort if they were going to give Butchers the chop. Druids started with a very patient game plan. Slowing the game right down, and controlling possesion. This resulted in the early lead when after a few blocked shots Nathan Lawler was in position on the post to put an acute angle flick in for the early lead. Butchers then realised they needed to speed up the game, and as such employed a very aggressive forecheck. This started to cause turnovers. Steve Larter rocked up for the Druids halfway through the first half, to give them a second sub. But, still wasn't going to be enough to play at the pace that the Butchers were trying to enforce. Butchers built up loads of attacking pressure. But the Druids continued to hold strong in defence. Thus denying the Butchers of the leveller. Druids taking the game 1-0.

Werrington County Sonics vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
Sonics managed only enough players to cover the field with no bench, whereas Rangers were almost at full strength missing only Luke Simmonds who was in Perth. Rangers felt confident that we could run the Sonics around and tire them quickly to gain full control of the match. How wrong we were. For the entire first half Sonics blitzed the Rangers in attack and defence, dominating possession and territory, having shots a plenty and not allowing the Rangers to get out of their own half. It was only through the keeping of Nathan Lawler that the score didn't blow out early, but the constant pressure eventually cracked the Rangers, Tim Brown (i think it was him) scoring for the Sonics to go ahead 1-0. Sonics kept up the pressure and looked as if they would put the game beyond doubt before the end of the first half, but then against the run of play, Bryan Macklin got the ball deep in the Sonics half, cut inside 2 players from the boards, and took a backhand shot that found the top corner to even things up, 1-1 at half time. The second half saw the Rangers increase in intensity following the late first half goal, but although the Sonics began to tire, they still had the best of the play early in the half, Rangers again thankful to the keeper, this time Peter Yabsley who kept the score locked at 1-1. The last 10 minutes saw Rangers at their best, creating opportunities against a tired defence, but couldn't put away a winner. With 10 seconds left the game looked destined for overtime, Daniel Wong running the ball along the boards into the Sonics half, beyond the blue line and shot which drew a save from the keeper, the ball spilling a few metres away from the goal for Liam Golding to pounce on the rebound to score the winning goal with only 4 seconds left on the clock. Rangers lucky winners over Sonics, 2-1.

Penguins over Phoenix
The Penguins vs. Phoenix by James Kristof
Historically Penguins v.s. Phoenix games have been tough hard-fought battles and it was no different this time around. Penguins struggled again to field one of the large line-ups that saw them get off to a flyer at the start of the season, while Phoenix's line-up was also diminished with a few players only turning up after the match had already started. The match flowed evenly throughout the first half, Shannan Heinitz breaking the deadlock after putting away a rebound off the Phoenix goalie to make it 1-0 at half time. Phoenix came out hard in the beginning of the second half and eventually drew even through a long range bomb from Damien Colyer to make it 1-1. However, this goal was a wake-up call for the Penguins who stepped up the intensity to gain an ascendency in possession, Daniel Wong with a looping shot from the boards that bounced into the front-right corner of the goal again broke the deadlock and gave Penguins the game winning lead. The match finishing 2-1 to Penguins.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Richmond Ravens by Saxon Hooper
With so much going on this season, Pacific Rim International, Activate Sports Day, countless weddings the season has disapeared all little into the background. It has suddenly dawned on me that we just completed week 16 of a 19 week season !! All teams have only 2-3 games to go and is now desperation time. Ravens currently on the bottom of the table knew a win could drastically change their position and chances of a finals appearence and they started that was. Dominating posession and locking down a water tight forecheck. The pressure forced Druids into bad passes and the turn overs resulted in scrambling defence and near misses. Unfortunately for Ravens it didnt amount to goals and with four minutes on the clock Saxon Hooper put Nathan Lawler through the defence and 1 on 1 with the goalie. Shot squeezed in and Druids somehow had a 1-0 half time lead. As usual Druids decided to tighten things up for the 2nd half and started to gain some attacking pressure of their own. Just 2 minutes in they doubled their lead with Ryan Findlayson setting up Nathan Lawler for his 2nd in a beautifully worked draw and pass move. Just 2 minutes later Ryan Findlayson took a longh shot which was expertly screened by the 2 forwards Alana Bracken and Linda Bell. By the time the keeper saw the shot coming it was in the net. 3-0 Druids. With Ravens pushing up to grab a late goal, Druids forced a deep turnover.. some quick outlet passes from Alana Bracken and Linda Bell found Nathan Lawler breaking again. A sprint down the wing and a wide angled shot somehow found the net and Nathan completed his hat trick. 4-0 win to Druids

Werrington County Sonics vs. Blacktown Butchers by Louis Sultana
This was an important game for both teams, with the Butchers fighting with the Ravens for 4th spot and the Sonics battling for top position. Games between these teams are always very close and fast paced and this was no different. Butchers grabbing the lead through Peter Yabsley with a darting run through the Sonics defence and then beating the keeper with a hand thingy on an almost impossible angle. Butchers grabbed their second goal soon after, with some clever passing from the back three before a shot into the goal area, copped a deflection and Martin Sultana with a one timer at hip height into the goals. 2-0 at halftime. The only second half action was a goal by Jason wheeler. From then on, the Butchers played smart broomball to breakdown the Sonics attack and hold on to a much needed 2-1 win.

Raptors Upset Phoenix
Phoenix vs. Raptors by Louis Sultana
The Raptors had to start the game with 3 guys and 1 girl on the ice, with Kevin Chen making his B grade comeback as fill in goalie. After about 5 minutes of play, Raptors managed to field a full side on the ice. Phoenix grabbed the early lead with a solid goal by Damian Colyer. Soon after, Raptors grabbed the equalizer with a goal to Louis Sultana, assisted by Penny Vost. The first half ended at 1-1. Raptors were delighted to have Aaron Parker and goalie Aaron Toomey arrive for the second half. About midway into the second half, the Raptors gained the lead with a great length of the ice goal. Louis Sultana passed the ball to Martin Sultana who took it over the centre line and passed into the middle for a flying Josh Newell who slammed the ball into the back of the net. The Raptors continued to play well, with excellent passing in attack and good structure in defence. Soon after, Josh Newell grabbed his second goal of the night with a one timer, assist to Louis Sultana. Raptors managed to hold out for a solid 3-1 win. Excellent game from Josh Newell and the girls Penny Vost and Alicia Nucifora, who continue to play the season without any subs.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington County Sonics by Jason Wheeler
Despite both teams being severely depleted, the game still managed to reach "fever-pitch" which is one below "gang-busters" and a level above "ball-tearer". Sonics started a girl down for the first few minutes which was more than enough time for Druids to open the scoring. Soon after, Sonics conceded a penalty and were down to four players. Nonetheless, Sonics weathered the onslaught and slowly turned the game on its head. With 6 players on the ice and even a sub for good measure Sonics stormed out of Marvin Dossi's shadow to put some great plays together. Goals to Jason Wheeler and Tim Brown in the first half took Sonics to a 2-1 lead at the break. Druids were patient in attack and with 3 minutes left scored the equalizer. Rebecca Davis scoring her first ever A grade goal. With the threat of OT, an already exhausted Sonics outfit took charge and forced a turnover in the final minute. Tim Brown broke through the defence and his flick shot was deflected by the keeper, passing agonisingly close to Brown's stick. I took a shot from close range but it was blocked, fortunately Tim was waiting for a second chance and scored the winner. The siren sounded barely a second later. 3-2 in the end and another memorable win against Druids to go alongside the 6-0 thrashing from a few weeks ago.

Richmond Ravens vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
Rangers versus Ravens for the third time this season...so why don't we just skip straight ahead to overtime? 0-0 after 40 minutes, both teams looking likely to break the deadlock but unable to get one past the keepers. OT saw Rangers control most of the state of play, which saw a goal almost come when Natasha Ryan passed across the face of goal to an open Lisa Price, who was denied by a diving stick save from Jo Mitchell. That being the best chance of OT, the game looked destined to end 0-0, until with 4 seconds to go, James Kristof passed the ball from the boards to an open Luke Simmonds, who shot truly from 15 metres out to give the win to Rangers, for the third time this season against Ravens, for the third time this season in a tough OT battle.

Penguins were missing a few players, but it turns out that we don't really need them. I'm only joking, please come back. Only 5 Penguins turned up, fortunately Team Ice Bucket's Mark Price recognized a good offer and decided to fill-in. Sara Kristof opened the scoring for Penguins with a deft shot. It was sensational! Raptors responded a few minutes later courtesy of a Louis Sultana goal that ignited the contest. Mark Price proved his worth with some fine attacking skills and scored a late first half goal. We didn't know it at the time but that turned out to be the difference following a scoreless second half. Despite having no subs, Penguins managed a fine 2-1 win. Penguins remain undefeated (shhhh) but with Huskies and Buckets hitting top form the competition is wide open.

Harvey Sinks Raven's
Richmond Ravens vs. Blacktown Butchers by Davin Harvey
Monday night and the crowds were going insane, the subs were looking for blood and even the players held nothing less than absolute rage in their eyes....and that was just our duty game. Back to the big one and it was all about the win for both teams if either was to claw their way back to a finals berth. Game started fast, both teams looking to press an early advantage. However it was to be an end to end battle of heartache with both teams pressing hard on attack then failing to hold the red in transition. Full credit to the scrambling defence though, getting back and breaking it down. It could not last forever though, and it took til mid-way through the first half for the Butchers to take the lead. A great flick over the top from Andrew Chapman to put Davin Harvey in all alone against the keeper. Shot was taken early inside the defensive quarter with the keeper off his line and no momentum. The low, hard shot to the far post successful and saw a 1-0 lead to the Butchers. Ravens continued to press again for the remainder of the half, and again only scrambling defence saving the Butchers from a goal against. 1-0 at the half. 2nd half started out a lot stronger for the Butchers, Peter Yabsley and his line leading the way with some great forechecking and attacking pressure, held the Ravens inside their own half for a long time and were unlucky not to push the lead out further. As the game continued though Ravens showed the fitter legs and were once again pressing the Butchers defence hard. A good clean game saw no advantage for either team and despite no let up from the Ravens, it finished with the Butchers holding onto their single goal lead. Look forward to next week.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Penrith City Rangers by Saxon Hooper
Top of the table clash which turned out to be just that. Game played with great pace and good control. 1st half saw Druids with the majority of the posession but poor passing and wayward shooting spoilt their chances. 0-0 half time. 2nd half Rangers speed began to worry the Druids and they got a few good attacking raids away. However fine defence and keeping kept the game to 0-0 full time. Druids controled the early part of OT, winning the face off and securing posession. Working the ball around got a shot, stopped and Wongy on the break. Attempting to beat the defence he lost the ball to Saxon Hooper, who popped it over to Nathan Lawler who witht he Rangers pouring forward had no one in front of him. A few steps to settle and then a nice solid finish from just outside the blue line. 1-0 OT win for Druids maintaining top spot.

Chappo Scores the best Broomball Goal Ever.. Just ask him !!
The Penguins vs. Team IceBucket by James Kristof
The top two teams on the ladder met for the second time this season - The Penguins, despite having a massive roster this season, again struggled to fill a decent sized bench, and Team Ice Bucket with subs-a-plenty controlled most of the possession in the first half. However, despite their ascendency in possession, Team Ice Bucket couldn't breakdown The Penguins' defence effectively to get a strong scoring opportunity, being forced to shoot from distance and with Tim Roffey having a superb night in goals, could not get a goal. Penguins opened the scoring late in the first half when Amran Sinha deflected the ball into the goal. 1-0 at half-time. The teams were a bit more evenly matched in the second half in terms of possession, and after some disappointing agro between a couple of players on opposing teams, The Penguins scored again to seal the match 2-0 as Jason Wheeler hammered home a goal from a Daniel Wong assist. The game ending 2-0 to The Penguins.

The Penguins vs. Team IceBucket by Jason Wheeler
The hoodoo continues as Penguins racked up yet another win against Team Ice Bucket. This was a clash of two in-form teams and a chance for Buckets to reclaim some pride after the undefeated Penguins had inflicted the Buckets' only defeat of the season a few rounds ago. That game finished 1-0 in OT. Last night's rematch started at breakneck speed with the Buckets having the early run of play and using their many many subs to good effect. Penguins hung in the game and gradually turned the tempo in their favour, controlling possession without much challenge and setting up shop in the Buckets' half. With a few minutes left Daniel Wong fired a perfect pass to a well marked Amran Sinha in front of goal who managed a one touch shot to break the heart of every Buckets player. Penguins 1-0 at half time. The game turned into a dog fight as each side knew that the next scorer would gain enough momentum to win the match. There was some gamesmanship from a couple of players which resulted in Buckets losing a player for 2 minutes. Buckets withstood the Penguins onslaught but were run ragged in the process. With full time fast approaching and Penguins in the ascendancy, a breakaway by Sara Kristof led to a Jason Wheeler goal. Penguins held onto their 2 goal lead but is was anything but comfortable. However, the game could have been very different if the Penguins had capitalised on numerous 2-on-1 situations and if it weren?t for the skill of the Buckets' keeper Alex Cook. Likewise, Buckets had their chances and for the large part gave as good as they got in all respects (except on the scoreboard). For Penguins, both Sara Kristof and Christine O'Brien played excellent games without respite. So in the aftermath The Trophy stays in the Penguins cabinet for another year but the fight to be Premier has only just begun with a few crucial games remaining. Penguins and Buckets look likely to secure the top two spots but which will finish as Minor Premier? Phoenix have displayed some fine recent form and Devils and Huskies can never be discounted either. As Mr T would say, "it's game on Fool!"

Ice Devils vs. Phoenix by Andrew Chapman
Every other week, when Phoenix wins a game and I get to do a write up, I always have the pleasure of talking about yet another one of my extraordinary goals. This time will be no different. But more about me later. There were A Graders galore in this match: Alana, Damo and myself against Karen, Sam and the always charismatic Nathan Lawler. Despite the number of A Graders, this game lacked the gusto that was anticipated by the 7 members of the crazed crowd. A riot was on the cards. Each team had their turn of great ball control and passing, finishing in great shots that could not find the back of the net. I believe that Joel still has a sore hand from a scorcher he blocked from Lawler. Despite great keeping efforts from both teams, the first goal resulted from a keeper error. Phoenix attacking sensation Matt had the ball from behind the opposition net. He doges a Devil, pushes off the back wall, and made a play from next to the post in an effort to feed the ball to the plethora of Phoenix players crowding the Devils net. His pass never made it to the other players as it was blocked by a very quick thinking keeper. Unfortunately this block resulted in the ball rolling back into the goal to give Phoenix a 1-0 lead. Great net pressure from the Phoenix guys. Devils put on the pressure, and a few lapses in concentration from Phoenix almost resulted in an equaliser. But not to be. Now for my 30 seconds of fame; with about 5 minutes on the clock, I got the ball just shy of half way. I ran it over the line, and had support on my left and right. 2 defenders in front of me standing stillI dribbled left, I dribbled right, whilst keeping my run straight. By the time the defenders realised that I wasnt passing, they couldn't intercept me in time. Through the defenders I run, and on to a shaking, nervous keeper. I drop to my knees in an attempt to imitate a hand thingy. The keeper didn't fall for it, however he was sufficiently confused that he only stepped forward to block a potential top corner shot. With the ball firmly planted at the centre of my broom head, I executed the perfect backhand hook straight past the keepers legs to give Phoenix a 2-0 lead. The now 6 member crowd went wild! Phoenix went wild! And the keeper shook my hand. The next 5 minutes were spent with Phoenix playing their trademark "defend like crazy and mark nobody particularly well" strategy, which usually seems to do the trick. Devils were frantic, passing and running around Phoenix players in a desperate attempt to get a goal on the board, but couldn't convert their opportunities. Great effort from all Phoenix players, in a well played win. 2-0 final score.

Clowns and Snow Cones shoot it OUT !!
Snow Cones vs. Carney Clownz by Josh Burton
The stage was set, the second encounter of the season between Snow Cones and Carney Clownz took place. Both teams running a tad low on players started with a balance between both sides, attempted chances arose with no avail. The Clownz started to gain a bit of ascendancy as the half went which resulted in 3 quick fire goals in a 5 minute period, provided by Cameron Parkes and Tim Harvey. As the first half came to a close, the Clownz were on the up, Snow Cones produced a couple of good, desperation saves to keep the score at 3-0. The close of half time saw the goalie chuck the ball out in the open with anger behind it. It labelled a change in the second half. The Clownz remained with the ascendancy producing 2 more goals, by the sticks of Cameron and Tim again. With the game ending, Snow Cones took advantage of defensive mistakes, and put the game into excitement mode with 2 goals in quick succession by Mark Kuipers. Another goal brought the score to 5-3, with 4 minutes to play. Some nervous minutes went past. 5-3 win to Carney Clownz at full time. Nice win for Carney Clownz in the end. Clownz thanks Leanne Sadler for stepping in for our game. Thanks Leanne.
Carney Clownz 5; Tim Harvey: 3 Goals, Josh Burton: 1 Assist, Cameron Parkes: 2 Goals, 3 Assists, Leanne Sadler: 1 Assist

Druids Back on Track
Werrington County Sonics vs. Blacktown Butchers by Jason Wheeler
Despite both of last season?s Grand Finalists fielding near full strength squads this turned out to be a scrappy game. Possession was difficult to sustain and many a head was thrown back in dismay after on one occasion seeing the ball turned over at least 20 times in 30 seconds. Sonics looked most likely to score though after making several fast breaks but some uncharacteristically poor finishing deprived them of a goal. The Sonics began to assert some authority late in the first half, and with 30 seconds remaining Marvin Dossi laid on a neat pass to Dhyana Scarano who finished well. Sonics 1-0 at half-time. I'd like to say that Sonics kicked on in the second half and continued the same form that helped them thrash Druids 6-0, but it was not to be. The Butchers defended well but were unable to find an equalizer. Sonics 1-0 victors.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Richmond Ravens by Saxon Hooper
Druids welcomed back guns Ryan Findlayson and Damian Colyer and were looking to forget last week and get back to their normal game plan. Both teams started well, forechecking was good, patience in attack was good, defence was good. Not too much room to move for either team. Finally a bit of luck lead to the first goal 10 minutes in. A ravens defended blockd a hard shot and lost their stick, the ball stopped dead for Saxon Hooper to pick up. Going around the stickless defender, got the shot on goal and a bit more luck as it took a deflection off another Raven's stick. 1-0 Druids. Just as the half was wearing down and it looked like being 1-0 a break away saw Nathan Lawler slot a good pass to Saxon Hooper who had time to draw the keeper and flick wide into the right hand corner. 2-0 halftime. Ravens picked up the intensity in the 2nd half but Druids defended well and kept them out. Good forechecking meant Ravens spent a lot of time on the attack even if they didnt have the ball. However the Druids were patient at the back and didnt panic even though under pressure. Finally getting into attack Linda Bell found Saxon Hooper who flicked it through to Linda again as she followed through. A nice little deflection saw it find the back of the net. 3-0 Druids. Ravens again lifted and dominated large potions of the remainder of the game, but were unlucky not to convert. With 8 minutes on the clock Raven's Sammy Boer went for a tripping foul. Druids controlled the OT well and Saxon Hooper rocketed a shot. Was hard to see the ball for the vapour trail and bit of flame flying from it. Unfortunately for Muzza in goals he was right in line and like a heat seeking missile targets heat, this Muz seeking tracer got him square in the Muz, both barrels (if you know what I mean) flooring him. Good tactics my Muz as he wiped of 40 seconds from the penalty clock while he was down. Sammy felt sorry for Druids and stayed in the box after his penalty had expired to make up for it (despite his team yelling at him).. No further scores, no further deadly Muz blows, and a good 3-0 win for Druids.

Tigers take down Huskies
Raptors vs. Team IceBucket by Liam Golding
First game for the night was Raptors facing off against TIB, but the super-suprising thing was that of all the teams, it was the duty team who had the most numbers there, and were ready first. Eventually both playing teams took to the ice, and we got underway. Now some people have said I don't put as much effort into my write-ups anymore, but really, nothing much went on spectacularly for the first 10 minutes or so. Chris got his first goal for the night with a breakaway that by all rights he shouldn't have scored from. What with shooting from the prone position and all. Some while after, the only penalty of the match went our way as I was felled, maliciously and savagely beaten with a stick, (i've got the bruise to prove it, but only if you ask nicely.) No goals came during the penalty though. Chris got himself / TIB another goal before we went into the break 2-0 up. We kept up the pressure in the second half, and despite the increasingly frequently Raptor busts, we chased back well, and they only got a few shots away. Chris found himself a third goal, before I got one, and then about a minute or two out from full time, guess who put on one more for good measure? Chris! The scoreboard would suggest it was team Chris last night, but it was a really good effort by everyone, as the whole team pulled together and covered each other to keep the clean sheet for the night. (Even our keeper (Alex) got an assist.) This is opposed to when we sometimes get a couple of goals up, and everyone starts shooting. It was good team discipline, or maybe it was the abscence of a certain player... What do you think, Bry? Anyway, 5-0 to us. Yay, Woo Hoo etc.

Huskies vs. Tigers by Sally Yabsley
Well Go the Mighty Tigers! It's been a while coming but the Tigers with the help of the Italian Stallion himself Marvin Dossi, have won a Game. Go the Tigers! We will miss you Marvin. Let's hope this was the kick start we needed. Good luck next week. Tigers opened the scoring through Marvin Dossi. Luke Simmonds equalised before half time. Ryan Findlayson got the next goal for Tigers just after half time. 2-1 Tigers.

The Penguins vs. Phoenix by Jason Wheeler
The result of this match was so shocking that I've already wiped the details from my memory. What follows is an account of how I imagine the game went. Everybody (except Sara) turned up on time because there was a rumour of free ice cream (the boutique variety not that Frogurt "I can't believe it's not ice cream" crap). The rumour turned out to be true and even though was no toffee/caramel variety I still managed to enjoy a triple-double chocolate with fudge. I usually avoid food directly before a game but it was also rumoured that this ice cream possessed magical properties and whoever ate it would attain Dossiesque skills. I was sceptical at first but since everyone ate the ice cream (except for those unfortunate lactose-intolerant people) I cannot rule out the possibility that this rumour was also true. A shrewd observer of the match (The Penguins mascot to be precise, ohhhh yes WE have a mascot) filled me in on some of the essential details and they are presented herewith. The game was tight from start to finish, at various times both teams were a player down but struggled to capitalise. Shannon Heinitz opened the scoring after some excellent Penguins attack. The second half was dominated by Phoenix with goals to Damien Colyer and Dominic Colyer. Penguins rallied late and equalized through Tim Roffey. The full time deadlock turned into an OT deadlock, something that both teams should be content with. To quote Homer, "Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try."

Sonics Hammer Undermanned Druids
Penrith City Rangers vs. Richmond Ravens by James Kristof
The match was close the whole way through with neither team looking like they would take full control over the other and put away a goal. 5 minutes of Ravens being on top was followed by 5 minutes of Rangers being on top followed by 5 minutes of Ravens being on top and over and over until the final siren went with scores still locked at 0-0. Overtime for the second time this season between these two teams, soon after a scare for Rangers which saw a diving save from Daniel Wong, he then ran the ball deep into the opposing half, shooting only to be saved but with the ball deflecting to Tracy Ivin, who then scrambled to put the ball into the back of the net to give Rangers a hard-fought 1-0 OT win.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington County Sonics by Jason Wheeleer
A catchy opening line is hard to come by, so why stress. There's always the next line. Comp leaders Druids have a knack for losing heavily but until this night they had never lost by more than 5 goals. Sonics managed one male and one female sub. Jason Wheeler and Tim Brown each scored first half goals to propel Sonics to an impressive position at half time. Druids were as sloppy as Sonics were structured. After the break, I scored on the back of an excellent burst from Kerry Baxter and Tim Brown (Marvin wasn't even on the ice). Kerry scored next and suddenly the lead had blown out to 4-0. It could have been more when Saxon gifted me an opportunity in front only for Kieran to save the day. Druids mounted pressure in very brief periods and Nathan Lawler forced an outstanding save from Dane Hansen to maintain the Sonics clean sheet. The scoring continued in the final minute when after major confusion in the Druids defence I swung at a loose ball and sent it on a 3 foot journey to the net. With 10 seconds remaining Marvin found the net to seal an outstanding 6-0 victory.

Ice Devils Upset TIB
Ice Devils vs. Team IceBucket by Saxon Hooper
Ice Devils took the lead late in the first half when Josh Smith scored a scorcher form the side line. A second goal with only six minutes to go to Nathan Lawler meant Ice Devils were a great shot to hold out the stong Team IceBucket out fit. A late goal to Liam Golding gave TIB a slight chance to equalise but Ice Devils held their nerve and shut it out. 2-1 win to Devils.

Huskies vs. Phoenix by Saxon Hooper
Unfortunately Phoenix were quite undermanned for this one but Huskies didnt seem to care as they piled on 5 goals to 1. Saxon Hooper setting up Martin brennan for the first goal 8 minutes into the 1st half. A 2nd quickly followed with Bec Davis firing a long ranger into the back of the net. 2-0 half time lead for Huskies. Phoenix struggling as they missed regulars Damian Colyer, Katie Robson, Erica Swanton and Dom Colyer.. Again roughly eight minutes into the half Huskies were in again through new recruit Tim Harvey. Shortly later Glen Butler-Fleming made it 4-0. Jason Hall was next to get on the board 5-0 with two minutes to go. Matt Hellyer quickly answered for Phoenix but with only a minute on the clock it was all over. 5-1 Huskies.

Clownz in OT over Buzz !!
Carney Clownz vs. Buzz by Joshua Burton
This contest pitted the Clownz against the Buzz. The game started with well orchestrated defensive strategies by the Buzz and nice attacking play by the Clownz. First to post points was the Clownz through Tim Harvey. Through the First Half, the Clownz found holes in the Buzz defence but couldnt convert on their opportunities. The Buzz hit back with a decisive play and eventual goal to Karen Bell, with an Assist to Danielle Mitrevski. 1-1 all at Half Time. Both teams came out firing in the second half, with the Clownz with the first to do damage with a second goal to Tim Harvey, with an assist to Bec Davis. Time was running down and with that, Buzz took advantage of the Clownz defensive blunder and gained a goal through Ben Irmsich to put the game in Overtime. Overtime lasted just over a minute, with a goal through the counter attack by Josh. 3-2 in Overtime to the Clownz. A nice out-of-jail win to the Clownz, with Buzz dominating attacking and defensive play throughout the game.

Mens & Womens Division - Week 10
Ticklers Secure Top Spot
Ticklers pounded Warriors 5-1 to take out top spot and qualify automatically for the Saturday December 8th mens grand final. The loss meant Warriors opened the door for the Stench. A win for the Stench in the final game would have put them into the finals, so all to play for. The Stench got away to the perfect start scoring early. However just when it looked like it was all over, Terminators minus some top players equalised. 1-1. The result relegating the Stench to 4th. Warriors will now play the Terminators on Thursday November 8th to see who meets Ticklers in the grand final. In the womens competition Crimson Furies and Silver Snipers played out a goaless draw. The result meant Crimson Furies finished 1st and move straight into the December 8th grand final. The Femmes and Silver Snipers will play a semi final on Monday 3rd of December to see who goes through to meet the Furies !

Huskies in OT
The Penguins vs. Tigers by James Kristof
Coming into this match Penguins were undefeated, and Tigers were last on the table, however, Penguins were still wary of the Tigers team, who boasted a very decent line-up and was due to start clicking anytime now. Because of this, Penguins were determined to keep up the intensity throughout the entire game, which resulted in the best one half performance in Penguins history. 5-0 at half-time. The second half was a little more like what we were expecting, Penguins winning that half only 2-1, and winning the match 7-1, with Jason Wheeler starring with 3 goals and 2 assists, with goals also to Daniel Wong, Shannan Heinitz and the first double in the career of Tim Roffey, with Tigers scoring through Ryan Findlayson in the second half.

Huskies vs. Team IceBucket by Liam Golding
Tonight TIB were missing some players, meaning that for most of the guys, there were no subs, and one of us would have to fill in as keeper. (A task which no-one was enthusiastic about.) The game started with Huskies playing well and putting us under some pressure, but our defence was equal to the task. Shortly into the second half I subbed on, and within a couple of minutes, I had made two penalties, and two other infringements, but the refs were nice to me, and I got away with them all. Then I got a breakaway and scored, 1-0 to us. It wasn't too long before Huskies equalised via Simmo with a nice goal well setup in front of our goals. Good play during the rest of the half, when just before half time, Sarah got a good deflection on Bryan's long range shot to put us ahead 2-1 into the half. Coming back to start the second half, Chris won the face of, but Saxon stepped around him, collected the ball, stepped one defender, and slotted in a goal to make it all even again. There was more good play by both teams, but as the game went on, the lack of subs were getting to our team, and Huskies started to run around us more often. A nice through ball on half way, and I got a breakaway for another goal to make it 3-2. With 7 minutes to go, TIB switched to defensive play, preferring to dump the ball and wait for Huskies to come again. And do that they did. The last few minutes were the most intense of the game, as Huskies threatened again and again, but our team held together, and finished the game winners. A great game, but next week I think we'll welcome back the rest of our team.

More Clown Action !!
Carney Clownz vs. Devil Knights by Joshua Burton
Thursday, again, as the first C Grade match of the match put The Devil Knights up against the Carney Clownz. With a few new players, Devil Knights came out with a new approach to their game. The first game displayed nice tactical work from both teams, with good attacking and defensive. The clownz took the early advantage through a couple of scores from Cameron and Assists by Nick. A goal to Martin, took the score to 3-0 at the end of the half. Second half showed the same of the first half, with Carney Clownz only closing out the match in the latter stages through more goals by Cameron. A consolation goal by Devil Knights, through a goalie error, with Devil Knights took with full advantage. 5-1 Full Time to the Clownz. Nice work by the team. The Goals an Assists are piling up for Nick and Cameron, with the rest of the team making up for the defensive of the game.

A Division - Week 9
Rangers Sneak Past Sonics
Penrith City Rangers vs. Werrington County Sonics by James Kristof
The Sonics, short on personnel missing Marvin Dossi, John Skiadis and Paul Stockbridge, seemingly started the match flat out to try and get an early goal before fatigue set in. And score they did. After only a few minutes into the match, Jason Wheeler received the ball at the top of the attacking circle, before cutting inside and hitting home a low goal. 1-0 to Sonics, and so it stayed until half-time. Rangers, far from happy with their first half performance, lifted in intensity in all aspects of their game, which the Sonics with only 1 female sub as their bench, began to tire against. Passes began to stick (except mine), movement off the ball created space, and early in the second half the match was equalised with a goal to Liam Golding after assists from Daniel Wong and James Kristof. Keeping up the intensity, Rangers still had the majority of possession and territory but it wasn't until the final 3 minutes that they finally took the lead with a Bryan Macklin goal. 2-1 at full time, with the Rangers putting together their best half of broomball in 2 seasons.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Blacktown Butchers by Saxon Hooper
Good even game this one with both Butchers and Druids executing their structure well. Druids were down Kosta Sourlas and Alana Bracken but picked up Alyson Camac-Benson from Ice Bogans to make her A grade debut. Took 15 minutes for a score when a shot from Saxon Hooper found the top right corner of the goals, great screening from Linda Bell and Alyson kept the keeper blinded. Just 3 minutes later Butchers got a break and after a scramble on the net Lauren Goulden poked home the equaliser. 1-1 half time. 2nd half was the same as the first without the goals. 1-1 full time. Overtime called for. Druids had the early posession creating some good chances but not converting. A turnover by Ninjas with only a few seconds to go saw Saxon Hooper with an opportunity from about half way to flick over the defence and score teh winner, however the flick drifted wide and Butchers hung on for the draw. 1-1 full time, teams sharing the points.

B Division - Week 9
Huskies in OT
Huskies vs. Tigers by Saxon Hooper
Really good B grade game to play, both teams concentrating on doing the small things right. The good skill and tight defence meant a 0-0 half time score. Huskies were first to score a hand thingy goal to Saxon Hooper. Just 4 minutes later and with only 4 minutes in the game Ben Irmisch split the defence, made a break and neatly finished to take the score to 1-1 and the game into overtime. Huskies dominated OT, just missing several good chances before Luke Simmonds finally put one away. 2-1 OT win for Huskies.

Raptors vs. Team IceBucket by Liam Golding
Raptors faced off against TIB in the second b-grade game for the night, and we (TIB) started off well. I can't really remember too much of this game; I wasn't even going to play, but the then I came to my senses and did. Anyway, goals in the first half to Mel, then Cale, and then I thought the next one was Mark, but I've heard he didn't score it, but anyway, we got a third goal via someone. 2nd half was tighter, with only one goal to Bryan. Raptors came close to scoring, but were beaten by the goal posts. A great game played by TIB, having a full team again, and glad to bounce back so strongly after being beaten, (again,) by Penguins last week. (Though it was in OT by a Wheeler special, so it only sort of counts.) Oh, and a note on a previous game a few weeks ago, where my write up gave Natasha two goals in the one game. Chris has b*tched and moaned a bit, so I agreed to mention in here that apparently he got one of those goals, not her.

C Division - Week 3
Clownz Continue Winning Way !!
Carney Clownz vs. Snow Cones by Joshua Burton
C Grade Broomball on again matched the Snow Cones against the Carney Clownz. This game served as a tough match-up for both teams as they gather momentum into the new season. Both teams started with equal ascendancy, with the Carney Clownz grabbing the first goal via, Cameron with the goal and Nick for the Assist. Snow Cones notched up a few chances only to be denied by the upright of the goals. A late goal in the first half, gave the lead and confidence for the Clownz heading into the second half. Half Time Clownz 2-0. The second half started out much like the first half, with both teams having equal chances at goal but to no avail. Full Time 2-0 Clownz. A good, tough win for the Clownz in a physically tough game (not seen much in C Grade). Clownz are 2 for 2 this season, and although Snow Cones went down tonight, they pose a serious threat and are Title Contenders in the C Grade Division.

10-SEP-2007
A Division - Week 8
Post PacRim Blues
Penrith City Rangers vs. Blacktown Butchers by James Kristof
The match started with the Rangers dominating possession and territory for about 15 minutes straight. 'How' you ask? Well, unbeknownst to half of the Rangers team, they were a man up for those 15 minutes, and because they did not actually realise this, they wasted ample opportunites to try and press for a goal, instead taking just 3 shots in those 15 minutes. When Butchers eventually got a full team, they pressed hard, completely reversing the state of the game, sending Rangers deep into defence for extended periods. 0-0 at half time and the second half didn't see too much more excitement, with neither team getting too many shots on target, until Liam Golding cut inside two Butchers defenders to put the ball low in the back of the net to give Rangers the win, 1-0.

Werrington County Sonics vs. Richmond Ravens by Jason Wheeler
Sonics have had a sluggish start to the season but seem to be on track now. In his farewell game, Marvin Dossi scored midway through the first half. The goal was denied because his name wasn't on the team sheet. He should've been top of the list based on last week's effort of 2 goals and an assist. The scoreless first half continued well into the second. I put a hard shot on the Ravens keeper which spilled into the path of the departing Dossi express. Sonics 1-0. The game finished with a well-deserved Sonics victory.

B Division - Week 8
Phoenix Win Late Night Special
Raptors vs. Tigers by Saxon Hooper
Raptors won 2-1.

The Penguins vs. Team IceBucket by James Kristof
Short of finals matches, Penguins v.s Ice Buckets matches are the biggest of the season for these two teams, playing off for the Penguin-Bucket trophy (a large ice bucket with a photo of a penguin stuck to it). Team Ice Bucket are much improved this season, and along with Penguins were undefeated this season so far coming into the match. Penguins had the upper hand early in the match, but missing star scorer Daniel Wong, lacked a little creativity around goal and were unable to capitalise, before Team Ice Bucket stepped up the intensity and used their speed and improved passing skills to spend most of the rest of the game in attack. However, a well drilled Penguins defence shut down the Ice Buckets attack, the final siren ending with both teams having about the same amount of shots on target throughout the match. Overtime here we come. Penguins had the majority of the ball in OT, which eventually led to Jason Wheeler getting the ball on the attacking blue line right up against the boards, and despite shouts from the bench not to shoot from yours truly, he hammered the ball into the top corner of the goal, to give Penguins the upper hand in retaining the Penguin-Bucket trophy for a third successive season.

The Penguins vs. Team IceBucket by Jason Wheeler
These sides are traditional rivals, often producing games bordering on classic. Both teams were previously undefeated, a fact which the Buckets bragged about since the first week. Penguins have yet to suffer defeat to Buckets since I've been playing broomball, which is about 11 or 12 games. This indicates the strength of the whole Penguins team over the past 3 years. There was a mix of experience on both teams. There were few chances and regulation time failed to produce a goal. OT was a perfect demonstration of patience by the Penguins. Buckets tended to hover near the red line waiting for an intercept. After some pressure Sara Kristof beat the defence and fed the ball back to yours truly. With a bit of space and still two defenders blocking the goal I scored from the blue line. It was nothing short of a stunning OT win for Penguins who retain The Trophy for another season.

Ice Devils vs. Phoenix by Andrew Chapman
I hate playing the last game, especially when it starts late. It prevents me getting my beauty sleep. But if every last game was this exciting, well I think I could handle it. With Phoenix and Ice Devils in 3rd and 4th place, a hard fought game was on the cards. It would have drawn a huge 20 person crowd easily if it wasn't the last game. Ice Devils were missing Nathan Lawler, but still had Sam Boer. They also had a few players backing up from an impressive Pacific Rim International tournament. Phoenix were missing top defenders Alana and Craig, but the rest of the usual gang were there. First goal went to Sam. I still don't know how he did it. Off the back boards behind the Phoenix net, up to the side of the net, and flicked a superb ball right over the keepers shoulder. He must have had about a 5cm circle to get it. No Samitis this time :( Next goal was to me. I started, like Sam, from Phoenix's back boards, ran past/around most of the other team up to the other end, weaved here, dodged there, blocked a few sticks, and flicked an awesome ball over the keeper into the top corner of the net. Lots of intense play after this, with big hitters Sam and Josh Yabsley trying to get some bullets past the Phoenix defence. Phoenix players kept rushing the Devils net. After one of Phoenix's rushes, there was a loose ball at the net. Luke, Dominic and Erica were there to pounce after a great chase. Not sure who scored it, as I was up the other end of the ice talking to Damo. But from what I saw, it was pretty impressive. For the next 12 minutes, Phoenix tried valiantly to hold out the Devils onslaught. How long can I hold the ball behind the Phoenix goals? The answer is for about 5 of the final 10 minutes of the game. Thanks to the Devils players for not putting on too much pressure. The other 5 minutes was frantic, with every combination of Devils players I can think of smashing the Phoenix defenders at the net. We were lucky not to get a goal scored against us, but good keeping from Damo and a good scrambling defence from Phoenix players kept the ball away. Time finally wound down, and Phoenix gets their second outright win of the season, 2-1.

NSW Sliders Defeat ACT Flames to Take Out Gold !!
The NSW Sliders have won the first ever Pacific Rim INternational Tournament defeating arch rivals the ACT Flames by 3 goals to 0. The Flames had the early advantage when Nathan Lawler was sent for a charging foul. NSW killed the penalty and began to mount their own pressure. Six minutes into the contest Saxon Hooper got the ball from Italian super star Marvin Dossi, and with a nice turn drilled home the opening goal.

NSW mounted more pressure soon after when ACT centre Trevor Banks went to the bin for tripping. NSW unable to convert on the power play. 1-0 at half time. NSW grabbed the safety goal just 6 minutes into the 2nd half. Peter Yabsley and Dane Hansen combining to set up Marvin Dossi to finish.

2-0 NSW with one hand on the trophy. Time wound on and with only a minute thirty in the game the pressure told on ACT and Ash Grimmer was called for a holding foul putting NSW on the power play. With so little time to go and a player down ACt had no choice but to pull their goal keeper. From a deep face off win, Sam Boer cleared the ball the length of the ice, curving it perfectly into the open net. 3-0 NSW and game over.

Ottawa Icemen Defeat QLD Cyclones to take Bronze
The Ottawa Icemen had won their last 4 games in a row to make it into the bronze medal play off vs the QLD Cyclones. QLD lost the semi final to ACT 2-1 and were hoping a win over the Icemen would give them the bronze. Things started well for QLD with Ottawa Icemen Deni Forgues taking a roughing penalty, just 3 minutes into the game. The cyclones were unable to convert and the score remained 0-0 at half time. Again the Icemen put themselves under pressure with Chris Vani going for a High Broom on ball call. Again QLD failed to convert. Then the heart breaker for QLD as Don Goldmaire put away a range shot with less than 2 minutes on the clock. However the game was not done with yet as Jon Cureston was called for interference with only 30 seconds to go. QLD with an empty net hada twop player advantage but could not capitalise as time ran out. 1-0 Bronze medal winning performance from the Ottawa Icemen over the QLD Cyclones.

Clownz on Top !!
Carney Clownz vs. Ice Bogans by Joshua Burton
Tonights game featured the Ice Bogans, the defending premiers, and the Carney Clownz. Both teams have seen talent go and brought new people in to fill the void. The match started slow, as the teams were adjusting to the ice and their opponents. Some tough defence was shown through the opening exchanges of attacking plays. The first to crack was the Ice Bogans, as the Carney Clownz moved in with a couple of goals before half time, via, Cameron Parkes and some great plays by Nick Kesby. Half Time 2-0 to Clownz. Second Half started a bit like the second half but picked up with Clownz scoring again via, Cameron. This seemed to break the spirits of Ice Bogans and the Clownz run in some good plays with the reward of a goal at the end. Ice Bogans eventually cracked the defence of the Clownz, scoring a consolation goal by David Farrell. Full Time: Carney Clownz 8 Ice Bogans 1 Nice start to the season for the Clownz with some nice defence through Penny and Bec which come with a 4 goal effort by Cameron and a surprising, but rewarding hat trick for the Captain, Martin Brennan. We look forward the C Grade matches as they commence in 2 weeks after the Pacific Rim International.

Womens Division - Round 2
1-1 Draw for Furies and The Femmes
Crimson Furies vs. The Femmes by Saxon Hooper
Being the second game for The Femmes they were more in tune and dominated early as Crimson Furies sorted out their positions and players. The extra possession leadin got the first goal, with Jo Mitchell setting up Sara Kristof who finished nicely. 1-0 ten into the 1st half. Furies began to settle and started generating their own pressure, good D and keeping denying them. 1-0 half time to The Femmes. Second half was an even affair with both teams creating good opportunities. With 11 minutes on the clock Bec Collier found Ceez Kim crashing the net. The keeper made a good stop first up, but Ceez continued through and hit in the rebound. 1-1. Plenty of great chances created by both teams in the last 10, however none got converted. Game finished in a 1-1 draw. Really good game of womens broomball. So far the first two games have been awesome. Good work girls. Next round of games will be played next week during the Pacific Rim International.

Terminators and Ticklers go toe to toe in Epic Encounter
Warriors vs. Silver Stench by Saxon Hooper
Warriors had a disapointing turn out only fielding 8 players up against the Stenches 12. Needing to slow down the game to compete the Warriors settled into a nice pattern of getting the ball over line by any means and setting up a solid forecheck. The pressure on the back players allowing countless turn overs in attack for warriors. Then using a smart perimetre offence (which didnt involve too much running), managed to get enough shots on goal to cause the Stench defence head aches. 8 minutes into the game Ryan Findlayson score the first goal for Warriors. Just five minutes later Jason Wheeler bagged his first. 2-0 half time. Half time and Warriors were very happy with their efforts and decided to keep up with the current game plan. Straight after the break Jason Wheeler bagged his double. 3-0 Warriors, feeling confident now. Wheeler completed his hat trick 4 minutes after completing his double and it was 4-0. The 5th goal game only a minute later with Luke Simmonds slotting a pass of both goal uprights and popping it out perfectly for Saxon Hooper to tap it in. 5-0 white wash of Stench complete. The extra numbers of the Stench did start to win over the Warriors in thelast 10 but some good keeping and some scrambling defence kept the clean sheet. 5-0 Warriors !!

Ticklers vs. Terminators by Saxon Hooper
Both teams coming in off first round wins looking to take outright top of the table. Terminators confident welcoming back super star Tim Brown, while Ticklers were still missing elite forward Daniel Wong. Eight minutes into the game and Ticklers got the scoring going with a goal to Marc Kuipers. The single goal stood up until half time. 1-0 Ticklers. With only 11 remaining in the game Terminators tied it up with a goal to Davin Harvey. Three minutes later Tim Brown proved his super star status by giving the Terminators the lead. Tickelers amped up the pressure to try and equalise and with only a minute on the clock did so through Liam Golding. 2-2 full time.

Phoenix From Behind
Huskies vs. Team IceBucket by Liam Golding
This game was TIB facing up against Huskies, who were starting minus a girl on the ice. Despite their guys having ample subs, we were still able to make good use of the numbers advantage and put three goals on in the first half. Two short range finishes to Natasha Ryan playing about her third or fourth game, and one long range one to me. In the second half, an extra girl was found, and so the game evened up quite a bit. Simmo made numerous runs through our team, and kept the pressure on hard, putting shots everywhere, including the posts, but not in the net. A minor issue in subbing by me, (you had to be there to see it,) caused a penalty for us, made longer when I couldn't get back on the ice due to the a grade rule... Anyway, Huskies couldn't capitalise, and so no more goals for either side in the second half got us the 3-0 win.

Raptors vs. Phoenix by Andrew Chapman
Phoenix came into this game with a win, an overtime win, and a loss. Not too bad given that we normally start each season quite slowly. I was tired from my mens game, so the intricacies of gameplay have eluded me. Raptors scored first - a nice run by Davin Harvey straight through 3 Phoenix players, and placed the ball through our keepers legs. Raptors scored the next goal as well. Phoenix had to get fired up, and that's exactly what we did. The second half was like a brand new game. Everybody was passing superbly, and maintaining good control of the ball. Then a bit of luck: I pass to Alana, who lobs the ball at the goal. The Raptors keeper hits it over the back of the goals. Or that's what we thought. The ball was tangled up at the back of the net, and once moved everyone realised that it was a goal! Phoenix then turned up the pressure again, and were denied time after time by the Raptors defence and keeper. Raptors then turned the table for a while and starting putting pressure on us, but we also held them out. Finally Damo found a chance for a nice shot in front of goals, and brought the score to 2-2. We then went into overtime, where Phoenix held control for almost the full 5 minutes. Continuing our great passing game, Damo got himself into a 1 on 1 with the overtime 'keeper', and had no trouble finding the back of the net. Another overtime win for Phoenix.

Single Goal Wins for Rangers and Druids
Richmond Ravens vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
Historically the Rangers have fared well against the Ravens, although they have never been able to really put them away, and after a spirited 3-2 loss to Druids last round, they were hoping for big things against the Ravens. However, any hopes of that were quickly dashed as the Ravens got an early goal through Krys Lockhart's miracle goal from the impossible angle, 1-0 Ravens. From then, the match intensified, with a lot of niggle between the teams, which saw 2 penalties for Krys Lockhart, however the Rangers were unable to capitalise on being a man up on both occasions. Deep into the second half however, Daniel Wong got on a fast break, and after taking a shot that drew out the Ravens keeper, Helen Smith was on hand to put away the rebound to tie up the match and take it into overtime. Overtime once again was end-to-end play, both teams setting up a shot, turning it over and then retreating, until Daniel Wong sealed the win for the Rangers, 2-1 after another hard-fought battle between these two teams.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
Sonics have been on a roller coaster of player numbers while Tim and Kerry have been away for work in the UK. In the first two rounds they were topped up with Glen ButlerFleming and Paul Stockbridge. Last night fresh of the plane saw the return of Tim Brown (still woozy from jet lag). Paul Stockbridge also showed again to help out as they were now missing John Skiadas for Tafe. Druids were also down players missing Steve Larter (holidays) and Nathan Lawler(Quad). Game started fast with both teams keen, however as it progressed it slowed as the lack of bench players took it's toll. With the slowing however came good tactics, both teams showing patience with the ball. setting up their offence and turning over the ball needlessly. 7 minutes into the game and some good one two passing between Alana Bracken and Saxon Hooper saw a shot on goal. Big Kosta was down in front of the net and as the ball got to him deftly lifted hi leg and allowed the ball safe passage into the net. Goalie had no chance unable to see arond Kosta, Linda and the two defenders. More of the same in the 2nd, both teams sticking to their game plans. However no more goals were to be had. Good defending and excellent keeping saw to that. 1-0 win for Druids giving them the outright lead.

Huskies from Behind !
Ice Devils vs. Huskies by Saxon Hooper
This game saw Saxon Hooper making his debut for Huskies vs his old team Ice Devils. The boos from the Ice Devils supporters were deafening as Saxon took the ice for his first shift. Spurred on by this Ice Devils took an early lead through Sam Boer, somehow slotting one home from out wide. With 7 to go in the half Ice Devils were in again with a goal to Josh Smith. From the face off Saxon Hooper broke and was 1 on 1 with the keeper.. a hand thing and amazingly Ice Devils Josh Yabsley made an incredible stick save, unfortunately for him the ball rebounded to Saxon who got it back into the centre for Glen Butler-Fleming to knock in from close range. 2-1 half time. Despite plenty of posession Huskies couldnt convert and as time went by it looked like Ice Devisl 2-1 lead was going to hold. Then with only 3 minutes on the clock Martin Brennan equalised. Into OT. A 2 on 1 break and a high flick caused Sam Boer into a high Stick penalty. With 4 vs 3 in the OT Huskies worked in on Ice Devils and finished them with 20 seconds on the clock. Amazing 3-2 comeback win for Huskies. Special mention to Huskies new player Daniel Chrmura who I predict will be hot property in next years A grade draft.

Raptors vs. The Penguins by Jason Wheeler
The Grand Final rematch from last season drew a larger than average crowd. Penguins fielded a full team and used their subs to good effect. James Delfs scored first from a sharp angle and maintains a high strike rate having scored in many of his 9 career games. Raptors recovered but Penguins held a 1-0 lead at half-time. Penguins ran away with the second half after a fine solo goal from Sara Kristof, excellent scores from Shannan Heinitz and Daniel Wong and even the most penalised Penguin of all-time also snuck one in. Somewhere in between Raptors cobbled together a goal against the run of play. Penguins backed up their Grand Final win with a decisive 5-1 win over Raptors. The only negative was when Daniel dropped me with a flick shot which got me in the "Muz" which happened after the game.

B Division - Week 4
Game Winners on the Bell are all the Rage !!!
Phoenix vs. Tigers by Andrew Chapman
The first B Grade match of the night was Phoenix vs Tigers. The game started as most other Phoenix games start- very slowly. Eventually the intensity picked up and both teams were into the full swing of things. The first goal was scored after Dom and Matt put a lot of pressure on the keeper with some good screening. There were 3 Phoenix players and 3 Tigers players in a scramble right in front of the net. Then Dom found himself facing the goal with half a shot available, and took no prisoners. The poor Tigers keeper had no idea where the ball was, until it was in the back of the net. 1-0 Phoenix. Tigers evened up the score with a blistering shot from just outside the penalty circle. Damo was the next to score for Phoenix, with a hard and fast shot straight past the Tigers keeper. Just when you think that things are going good, they stop. Tigers came back again and evened the score to 2-2 with only a few minutes left on the clock. They were on the prowl (pun intended), and Phoenix were struggling. Overtime looked inevitable. Then with 20 seconds left on the clock, I pass to Erica and Matt, who were both open on the left. Matt gets the ball, and myself and Dom are backing him up. Matt gets tackled and the ball is loose. He recovers, and he and Dom are now both running after the ball towards the goal. The Tigers' 2 defenders plus their keeper come out to intercept. This leaves me open by a mile. I yell to them to just tap the ball to me, which they did, and I calmly guide the ball into the goal (no Liamitis or Samitis!) to give Phoenix a 3-2 win. Promising game from new recruit Luke, who still hasn't fallen over!

The Penguins vs. Ice Devils by James Kristof
Penguins, undefeated so far this season came up against a new look Ice Devils team, who despite losing some quality players still look to be a strong team this season. Penguins despite boasting a 12 person playing roster struggled to field a full team, while Devils had subs-a-plenty, and took advantage of it, utilising fast subs to keep the intensity high throughout the game and control most of the possession and territory during the game. However, they were unable to capitalise on this, and it took until late into the second half before Jason Wheeler broke the deadlock for a 1-0 Penguins lead with only a few minutes left. Ice Devils didn't go away though, swamping the Penguins defense to force a turnover, and after a Nathan Lawler shot hit the post, leaving James Kristof and Tim Roffey entangled with each other, Marc Kuipers put enough pressure on Jason Wheeler to cause him to deflect the ball inot the his own net, 1-1 with only a minute left. Overtime saw end-to-end play, both team taking shots and turning it over, until Jason Wheeler got his (unofficial) third goal of the game, to maintain Penguins' winning streak. 2-1 after OT.

Snipers snipe one Late !
Silver Snipers vs. The Femmes by Saxon Hooper
The girls did a great job turning up like the guys with both teams only missing 1 player. Snipers started the stronger with good possession and territory. Good defence and good keeping (at times both were desperate) kept the Snipers at bay. However The Femmes warmed to their task and began get some of their own posession. The even first half ending 0-0. Both teams into their stride now managed to control posession well, but on the flip side the defence covered well and their was little opportunity for either team. As the half wore on The Femmes started to dominate possession more and more. However they couldnt score and in a tight game one goal can be enough. A turnover saw Linda Bell sprint past the defence and get to be 1 on 1 with the keeper. A nice draw and back hand flick found the net and giving Snipers the 1-0 win.

Mens Division - Round 1
Great Turn Out For Mens
Warriors vs. Terminators by Saxon Hooper
First mens competition game for a couple season and it was good !! Great turn out by both teams with 2 complete lines per team which made for a fast and scrappy start as teams came to terms with extra subs and lack of positioning. Eventually though positions got sorted and subbing began to whirl. Warriors built good pressure and had a lions share of possession and shots on goal however if you dont convert that pressure means nothing. Terminators on a fast break scoring first in the first half. 1-0 half time for Terminators. Game continued to grow in quality as players came to grips with contact and the better passing required. Eventually Warriors pressure telling with a goal to Luke Simmonds. Late in the game hero Luke Simmonds turned villian as he turned over the ball leaving Keeper with a 3-1 situation. Nathan Lawler tapped in the game winner. 2-1 terminators.. big win minus star Captain Tim Brown.

Ticklers vs. Stench by Saxon Hooper
Even better turn out for this game, with Stench players coming from everywhere. Nearly 3 complete lines, Ticklers had 2 complete lines as well meaning a very very fast game eventuated. Like the first game it took awhile to settle as players had to get used to large numbers of subs and demands of contact. Ticklers owning the first half as they settled a little quicker than the Stench. However despite the posession it was 0-0 half time. Ticklers opened the scoring in the 2nd half through a goal to Liam Golding. The stench who improved as the game went on started to grab some posession and started to apply their own pressure. The pressure however was diffused by Alex Crook who had a great keepers game for Ticklers. Just when it looked like 1 goal would be enough Matt Hellyer made a break again the shot was saved but the tangle of chasing defenders pushed the ball into the net. 1-1 seven minutes to go. Ticklers retook the lead only a minute later with Pete Yabsley flicking a shot on goal that rebounded to an unmarked Paul Stockbridge who slotted it. 2-1 win for Ticklers.

Druids & Rangers go On Goal Scoring Spree
Richmond Ravens vs. Blacktown Butchers by Saxon Hooper
0-0 Full time, James Dymond scored the winner in OT for Ravens.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Penrith City Rangers by Saxon Hooper
Druids dont like playing Rangers.. too many quick bodies on their team. It didnt help Druids were down personnel either. Missing Kosta Sourlas (he knew team fees were due tonight so skipped) and Steve Larter with back complaints. As per usual the game was fast. Druids doing what they do best, screening, working shots and hoping for a result. It came late in the half, but from a break rather than the usual goal grind, Damo Colyer beating the keeper. 1-0 half time to Drudis. Daniel Wong evened it up just 2 minutes into the second half. However Druids struck back straight away with Nathan Lawler restoring the lead less than a minute after Wongy's goal. Not to be out done Rangers brought it back to 2-2 with a goal to Bryan Macklin. The scoring wasnt fininshed there though, with Saxon Hooper nailing a shot from close range (with help from a Ranger defensive deflection). A goal fest. 4 goals had been scored in 5 minutes. 3-2 with still 13 minutes to go, how many more could be scored. Answer was 0. Both teams fixed their defence and the game finished 3-2 to Druids. Really good/fast game to play with both teams doing most things well.

Ice Devils have best Win Ever
Phoenix vs. Team IceBucket by Liam Golding
Ok, so as I was so late in writing last week's match report that this is it as well as this week's match report, it made sense to write it as soon as I could. That, and the fact that I have a rare tuesday off. Anyway, all effort expended in tonight's games, I can only be bothered to say that last week's match was actually 3-0. And I know I told Saxon that. Ryan got one goal but Tim saw his name wasn't on the sheet, and casting his mind back to when Penguins lost a game due to the same fault, he stripped them of their goal, and so we ended with the clean sheet. As for this week, Natasha Ryan made her broomball debut for us, but it might not have been noticed by anyone, cuz she wasn't falling over all the time. I can't remember if Phoenix or us scored first, (it was soooo long ago, - it might have been them actually...) but anyway, in the end we ran away with it 4-1. Most of the goals were in the second half... or were they. I can't remember that anymore either. I know that we got one of our goals when Phoenix were a player down. And we got another one when we were playing the advantage for Chappo high sticking the ball. The final goal felt good cuz the only skill required was avoiding Liamitis, though I do try. Intercept of a wayward pass on halfway and then race to the other goal. It wasn't all as good as it sounds; there were some hairy moments, (like when davin lost his razor,) that required Alex to make some great one-on-one saves for us. But he did that with success, so no worries from this end. All in all, TIB played well above average I think, against a team that was a bogey team for us all last season.

Raptors vs. Ice Devils by Rebecca Collier
Before the game started I recall Kieran saying it would be an interesting one becuase we were going to get thrashed... I don't know how it happened but Ice Devils played like a team and it worked. Raptors played a good game, but we held them off, letting them get away with just the one goal. The three consecutive goals within a couple of minutes boosted Devils score to make the scoreboard look impressive in our favour, but instead of giving up we held our defence, finishing the game at 5-1. Goals for Devils were scored by Marc, Nathan, Josh Yabsey and Smith, as well as Pearce. Raptors lonely goal scored was scored by Louis Sultana , but a good game was played by all.

ONly Penguins Write Up !!
Huskies vs. The Penguins by Jason Wheeler
The Penguins are on their first streak of the season, posting their second win in as many matches. Tim Roffey opened the scoring with an excellent shot that was only improved by a desperate deflection from the Huskies defence. Moments later Daniel Wong beat the entire Huskies team before passing to yours truly for a 2-0 lead. I scored twice more and assisted Daniel to open up a 5 goal buffer. Huskies hit back with a late consolation goal but the rout was complete. This was a great team effort that pieced together 5 classic Penguins goals to 1.

Team IceBucket vs. Tigers by Saxon Hooper
Again no write up from the captain. 3-0 win to Team IceBucket.

Off and Running !!
Penrith City Rangers vs. Werrington County Sonics by James Kristof
A mere 2 weeks since the grand final which saw the Butchers triumph over the Sonics, every team's ledger was squared again at 0 wins and 0 losses and a new season got under way. Rangers and Sonics was the opening match of the season, with Rangers looking for a more consistent effort than in season's past. Sonics were severely depleted, missing Scott Murray, Tim Brown, Ceez Kim and Kerry Baxter, and as such the Rangers dominated possession and territory for the vast majority of the game. Fairly late through the first half, Luke Simmonds received a pass just inside the blue line, and with plenty of time to wind-up, hammered home a goal in the bottom corner, to give Rangers a 1-0 lead at half time. However, early in the second half, the Rangers' intensity, as so often before, began to dwindle, allowing the Sonics some quality possession deep in the Rangers defense, and poor marking saw an easy pass go across the face of the goal to an unmarked Dhyana Scarano on the back post, who then deflected the ball into the back of the net, 1-1. Determined not to allow history to repeat itself, the Rangers quickly regained the ascendancy in possession and territory, with only desperate defense denying them, until Bryan Macklin cut inside through two Sonics defenders and hammered home the winner late in the half. 2-1 to Rangers to start off the season.

Blacktown Butchers vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Last time these teams met, Butchers knocked Druids out of the finals before going on to claim the premiership. Butchers down Ben Eagleston, Davin Harvey and Shannon Vost were hoping their run of form that took them from 4th to premiers would continue. Druids were very keen not to repeat the performance which saw early quick goals. Hence Druids started tight on D and stayed disciplined. 0-0 at the half time break, not much seperating the teams in the first 20. A couple minutes into the 2nd half saw a good break out move which went from Damian Colyer to Nathan Lawler to Saxon Hooper on half way. With only the defence in front a deft deek and Hooper was past. A hand thingy and the ball was in the top corner 1-0 Druids. The pace of the game and lack of subs began to take it's toll on the Butchers and they started to lack the run to effectively break out and set up attack. Druids often camping in Butchers end with posession or forecheck pressure. Apart from a couple dodgy defensive passes late in the game Druids managed to hold without too many scares. 1-0 to Druids.

B Division - Week 1
New Players Galore !! Well Done B teams !!
Tigers vs. The Penguins by Jason Wheeler
Penguins are defending premiers this season and have their greedy little eyes set on a third successive title (the elusive Three-peat). Penguins have recruited Shannan Heinitz from C Grade and Christine O'Brien from obscurity. Both had excellent debuts in the green and orange. Last season marked the Tigers debut season in B Grade and they registered several wins against more experienced opposition. A top four finish is not out of the question this time around. Penguins fielded about 11 players, up from the usual 7 meaning that we were short 4 jerseys. So for the first time, Penguins played in their away strip of grey and green (Rangers colours) and they didn't disappoint. Penguins controlled possession and shut out the Tigers for much of the game. James Kristof starred with 2 goals and an assist. Shannan Heinitz scored one on one and the roar from the crowd was deafening. Daniel Wong capped off a good game with a breakaway goal. Tigers scored with a few seconds remaining and celebrated with their usual Penguin dive thingy. Penguins were victorious by 4 sensational goals to 1.

Phoenix vs. Huskies by Andrew Chapman
First week back into the new season - high excitement, low expectations. The couple of weeks off was enjoyable, but was going to make for a scrappy game. Several players from both teams were doubling up from the previous 2 A Grade games, which thankfully slowed the game down to a level that was acceptable for everyone. We had Erica Swanson back from a long hiatus, and welcomed Craig Loughlin-Smith into the team, who both had awesome efforts. Damo was the first to score. He miss-hit the ball, but as we've learnt from the A Grade grand final, miss-hits can easily result in the ball making it's way into the back of the net somehow. Eventually Huskies evened the score, which kinda sucked. Phoenix were enjoying the lead, something which we didn't experience for the majority of last season. Anywho, the game ended in a draw, so into the standard 5 minutes OT. Damo must have copped a blow to the head or something, as he seemed to be in la-la land for the first half of overtime. So I subbed with him, and straight away, almost got a pass to Dom. Huskies' whole team was on the red line, so Dom could have easily put it away. But the pass was intercepted. 20 seconds later I got the ball off a rebound and realised that the Huskies were still on half way. So over the line I went, wound up and hit a shot that had Liamitis and Samitis written all over it, curling across to the far post. But I must have developed a cure, because the ball stayed true and Phoenix wins the game in OT.

Team IceBucket vs. Ice Devils by Liam Golding
The last game of the night was Ice Devils up against Team Ice Bucket, and if I can remeber correctly, I think it was them who did us out of finals last season. Revenge could be so sweet... Anyway, it was looking like being the Golding-Price show, as from the 11 members of our team, we had 5 turn up. Cale and I holding up the Golding end, and Lisa, Mark and Bry the Price side. With Bry and me subbing for each other, we were still short a guy and a girl. Stealing Martin and Bec from huskies, who were supposed to be tired from playing the game before hand, we filled out the rest of our team. Even better was that they happened to randomly have two black shirts with them. As our keeper, (Alex,) was missing, we swapped keepers a bit, with Cale and Martin doing most of the work. I had a short stint in goals, lasting about 20 seconds before conceding a goal to Ice Devils, possibly to Saxon - I hardly saw it coming. Anyway, to justify my being in goals, I hung around a bit longer before getting the hell out of there. Classic TIB play got us an equaliser, as I pounced on a loose pass and saw open space. The second time I got it in the back of the net. Bryan got the other goal in typical fashion, as another intercept went our way. He decided to run all the way down to the goals, step the keeper and score shortly before half time. Glad for the refresher, we went into the second half looking to do more of the same. With the ability to field a full team, we were able to stop most of there break-aways, though Cale and Martin were forced to make some great saves. Towards the last 5-10 minutes, as our energy evaporated, we changed strategy to that of get the ball over half way, and wait for them to come at us again. We let Mark make most of the breaks up the sides whilst we sat on halfway. As the clock wound down, Saxon let his frustrations get the better of him, and was sent in the only penalty of the game for pushing over Cale so blatantly (Editors Note: There was a lot of Jarryd Hayne in Cale). We held the ball as much as we could, and the game finished with Ice Devils unable to score an equaliser, thus 2-1 to us in a much too late, and much too exhausting first round game. Thanks again to Martin and Bec for helping out, and well played to all. (Ice Buckets, I mean. Ice Devils is just a sad imitation of our name. )

Blackton Butchers A Division Champions
Grand Final - Blacktown Butchers vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
The Blacktown Butchers had been riding a knife's edge just to make it to the finals series, one slip and they were mince meat. Instead, they won when the steaks were high and actually ended up being the form team leading into the finals. Finishing 4th, the Butchers made the Penrith City Rangers look like sausages in the Elimination final, then in the preliminary final, the minor premiers Glenmore Park Druids lost their heads on the chopping block. Then it was time to meat the Werrington County Sonics, last season's premiers. The Butchers started on top dominating posession and making the face-offs look as easy as making gravy. The Sonics weren't phased by their lack of possession and sat tight in their zone defence waiting to counter. A high-stick penalty to Gemma Butler-Fleming (to which an unnamed Sonics player later admitted having helped along with an unnoticed but illegal stick check) left the Butchers looking a little lean. With some good ball movement just as the penalty was expiring, Jason Wheeler scored assisted by Ceez Kim and Tim Brown. 1-0 Sonics with six and a half minutes remaining in the first half. The Butchers had no choice but to sprinkle sawdust over the bloody mess on the floor and get on with the job. The Butchers continued to mount pressure but the Sonics continued dodge the Butchers' flying cleavers. The score was still 1-0 Sonics at half time. It wasn't long before the Butchers sharpened their knives and levelled the score. Just five minutes into the second half, Davin Harvey made no bones about it, getting a good shot on goal through some good screening. With 10 to go in the game, Ben Eagleston got called for a tripping penalty giving Sonics the power play. Butchers killed it well and went back on the attack. With six minutes left on the clock, Andrew Chapman (who was shooting) found an unmarked Louis Sultana cutting across the crease. Louis got enough on it to squeeze it past the keeper and all of a sudden the dead-lock was broken. 2-1 Butchers. Sonics amped up the pace trying to equalise and pulled their keeper with two to go. Butchers' Lauren Goulden was snagged with a late penalty while trying to turn the knife and score another goal. That gave Sonics a two-man advantage for the last 30 seconds but they were unable to capitalise. 2-1 Blacktown Butchers victory. The individual points awards for the players with the most goals and assists for the season went to Tracy Ivin of Rangers and Peter Yabsley of Butchers.

The Penguins B Division Champions
Grand Final - The Penguins vs. Raptors by Saxon Hooper
Raptors turned it around early in the season when Italian stallion Marvin Dossie joined their team. Even when he left their good form contiued and they went through to the end of the season as minor premiers. The Penguins have had an up and down season due to an inconsistent roster. However they did enough to make the finals and thats all that counts. Raptors finished on top, won the qualifying final and won straight through to the grand final. The Penguins lost the qualifying final and defeated Ice Devils in the preliminary final to earn the rematch. Game on.. Early on it was all Penguins as Raptors fumbled and poked around, memories of their preliminary final choke from 2 seasons back must have been flooding back. However they finally settled and managed the first goal eleven minutes into the game, Louis sultana scoring with Shannon Vost and Martin Sultana assisting. Penguins dont give up easily though and they have won the B title before, so they know whats needed. With four to go in th half big James Deplphs found Jason Wheeler who turned and shot. 1-1 score level into half time. Early in the 2nd half Tim Roffey got a 2 minute penalty for pushing and Raptors were on the attack. No cigar though (or goal), Penguins killing well. Full time drew closer as the arm wrestle contiued. The large crowd was thinking could this be another overtime epic between these great clubs... The answer was no as James Kristof found Jason Wheeler who finished sweetly. 2-1 with six minutes to go. Raptors picked up the pace, pulled the keeper and applied the blow torch, but nothing was getting theorugh the defence or Penguins Keeper Chris Helderman. 2-1 victory to Penguins. The individual points awards for the players with the most goals and assists for the season went to Melanie Koehler of Team IceBucket and Louis Sultana of Raptors.

Ice BOgans in Overtime !
Grand Final - Ice BOgans vs. Devil Knights by Saxon Hooper
Ice Bogans came into this game as huge favourites, undefeated in their last 8 games of the season. Devil Knights squeezed past an undermanned Flat Whites to make the grand final. Ice BOgans made the perfect grand final start, from the face off Dave Farrell broke, off loaded to Alyson Camac-Benson who gave back the perfect give and go for Dave to finish off. 1-0 Bogans 12 seconds into the game. Bogans continued to heap on the pressure and it looked like the result was going to be a convincing win to Ice Bogans. However Devil Knights didnt like that script and they defended like their life depended on it, saving, scrambling, defelecting everything Ice BOgans threw at them. Amazingly only 1-0 to Ice BOgans at half time. Bogans continued to dominate in the 2nd half, until with only 8 minutes in the game to go Steve Sevil from Devil Knights evened the scores. 1 all. With 6 on the clock Ice Bogan Josh Newell took a tripping foul allowing the Devil Knights a power play. Ice Bogans killed it. With 1 minute 30 seconds to go Ice BOgans star recruit Alyson Camac-Benson also took a tripping penalty allowing Devil Knights to try and steal the game. No dice though. 1-1 full time. Ice Bogans started the 5 minute overtime period a player down but held out for the 30 seconds. With one and a half minutes to go Dave Farrell scored for Ice BOgans. Ice Bogans seemed home until with only 10 seconds in the match Marc Kuipers broke for devils and somehow got a shot past the two Ice Bogan defenders. It was heading to the open net and must have hit an air pocket as it dipped just past the outside of the post. Bogans hanging on to win 2-1 in OT. Ice Bogans Dave Farrell and first season player Alyson Camac-Benson took out the male and female points award trophies.

Butchers into the Grand Final
Preliminary Final - Blacktown Butchers vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Blacktown Butchers on a winning streak defeating Sonics, should have defeated Ravens but for a technicality and accounting for Rangers in the Elimination final, Druids on a losing streak having lost to Rangers and Sonics in their last two games meant this game like all A grade games was anyones. Again Druids started sluggishly with lose passes and sloppy play giving Butchers all the ball and all the pressure. Like the Qualifying final vs Sonics it cost Druids again. Just five minutes in a lose pass out of defence found Peter Yabsley who delivered it into the top corner. After two more minutes Andrew Chapman got into space and buried another goal into the right hand top corner. 2-0 Butchers with 32 minutes to go. Druids regrouped and Butcher seemed to back into their shell intent on maintaining their lead. For the remainder of the first half Druiids spent the majority of the time attacking. Poor shot choice and good defence meant 2-0 was the half time score. Message at half time for Druids was to just get 1 and hope the pressure would break Butchers. Possession and territory was mounting on Butchers but they did not crack. Desperation in defence and huge effort from the goalie meant that 1 goal would not come. On any other night Druids may have scored 4 goals in the 2nd half.. not tonight though. Butchers holding on to their 8 minute lead and moving into the grand final vs Werrington County Sonics on Monday 2nd July. Should be a great game with Butchers finding form at the right time of the season and Sonics being consistently good all year.

Penguins Scrape Through
Preliminary Final - The Penguins vs. Ice Devils by Jason Wheeler
Penguins were keen to maintain their unbeaten record against Ice Devils and recalled vividly their previous meeting which resulted in a 5-1 thrashing. On Monday, Devils eliminated last season's grand finalists Team Ice Bucket in the Elimination Final to register their fourteenth goal in their past four wins. Penguins have been consistent all season and were unlucky to lose to Raptors in the Qualifying Final in what must be considered the game of the year. The first half was scoreless as neither side could mount any sustained pressure and most shots were off target. Amran Sinha broke the deadlock with 7 minutes on the clock when he finished off a set play. Sara Kristof started the move by breaking out of defence and found Jason Wheeler unmarked who then passed to the near post. The keeper was forced to dive for the ball but Amran took it beyond his grasp and found the net with a well-timed flick. Penguins 1-0. Having played pressure games all season, Penguins were able to absorb the increased pressure from Devils who very nearly scored with 5 seconds on the clock when the Penguins captain passed directly to a Devils attacker standing 2m in front of goal. The shot was on target and had plenty of pace but the captain managed to smother the shot and the Penguins held on for a hard fought win. Penguins now face the challenge of reversing three successive defeats against Raptors to defend their premiership.

Devil Knights in another Epic
Preliminary Final - Flat Whites vs. Devil Knights by Saxon Hooper
Flat Whites dominated from the outset but could not find the net. Plenty of posession they looked likely to score anytime. Devil Knights hopes seemed pinned on scoring a fast break. Still neither team troubled the scorers in the first half. Five minutes into the 2nd Devil Knights finally broke through with Marc Kuipers scoring. Flats whites with no subs began to slow down and an equaliser didnt look likely. However with only 4 on the clock Josh Yabsley managed one and it was 1-1 and heading for OT. First period of regulation OT yielded nothing. So into sudden death OT. Again nothing for 5 minutes. Change of ends another 5 minutes.. nothing. Were we going to see a repeat of Monday's epic ? Change of ends another 5 minutes.. nothing. Was plenty of action and plenty of chances but no one could find the net. Then as we were deep into OT number 4 Chris Edwards found Marc Kuipers and he managed to find the net. 2-1 OT win to Devil Knights over Flat Whites. Devil Knights now meet Ice Bogans in the grand final on Monday.

Sonics Blast Druids, Butchers give Rangers the Chop !
Elimination Final - Blacktown Butchers vs. Penrith City Rangers by Sarah Hipwell & Davin Harvey
A-Grade Finals started the evening with the Elimination Final; third vs. fourth on the competition ladder. The Penrith City Rangers took on the Blacktown Butchers to stay in the Finals. An early goal from Peter Yabsley put the Butchers in the lead, but the Rangers answered with a goal of their own by Bryan Macklin from a sublime pass from Luke Simmonds with less than five minutes on the clock. A penalty against Luke Simmons from the Rangers near the end of the first half for high broom on the ball left them a man down and the Butchers capitalised, with Andrew Chapman scoring in the last 35 seconds of the first half. The second half saw possession fly back and forth between the two teams with no further progress from either. Another late penalty against the Rangers Bryan Macklin for unsportsmanlike conduct left them a player down for the final five minutes of the game. The Butchers took full advantage with Shannon Vost scoring with less than two minutes to go. In an attempt to maximize the number of players on the ice and close the Butchers 3-0 lead, the Rangers pulled their keeper off with two minutes to go. Helping Rangers cause was a penalty against the Butchers, with Louis Sultana being sent for tripping. This didnt bother the Butchers, Davin Harvey scoring with 35 seconds left on the clock to give a final score of 4-1. Great team effort from the Butchers. We held the Rangers out well defensively" said Butchers Player Davin Harvey. In attack, we worked well created some great opportunities and probably deserved a couple more goals, but who's going to complain after a 4-1 result?

Qualifying Final - Werrington County Sonics vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Jason Wheeler
I stumbled out of my hotel room with but a few minutes to game time. Attempting to evade the hawk-like radar of the concierge I dived headlong into my convertible. He spotted me and though I heard threats of legal action with regard to the rather large bill that I'd just skipped out on ($1000 in grape fruits alone) I had more important things on my mind. Namely broomball, and also how I was going to find the money to repair my roof. Speeding through peak hour traffic, often cornering on two wheels I finally crashed through the front door to the ice rink. What an entrance! but nobody seemed surprised. The much anticipated top of the table clash would see the winner earn a place in the Grand Final. As minor premiers, Druids started as short favourites despite Sonics being defending premiers and having the best defence in the comp. Sonics started strongly, relentlessly pursuing the Druids defence and forcing countless turnovers. After 5 minutes of play, Druids yielded to the immense pressure exerted by Sonics when I got into space and backhanded the ball past the keeper for the early lead. With 12:30 left in the first half the Druids defence was scattered once again, I passed to the centre where Tim Brown had ample time and opportunity to slot Sonics second goal. A mighty strike and one that put Sonics in front by two sensational goals to nil. With 8:25 remaining, Tim Brown passed to me on my wrong side which is actually my better side, and I nailed a third Sonics goal which was very reminiscent of the first. Sonics 3-0 after only 12 minutes. As Sonics began to tire, Druids used their superior numbers to pressure the Sonics stonewall defence. Sonics managed to deflect every attack and created several more opportunities. Half-time Sonics 3-0. The news from the dressing rooms at half time was very contrasting. Sonics were buoyant and satisfied with their best half of the year, while Druids were searching for the form that made them minor premiers. The half-time show featured an exceptional pyrotechnic display and also a highly motivating speech by the Dalai Lama who is somewhat of a broomball fanatic. Not much changed after the break as Sonics continued to defend grimly while Druids struggled for an effective attacking formation. Neither team conceded a penalty and genuine scoring options became scarce. With 5 minutes left it was apparent that Sonics had done enough to win but Druids never gave in. With 1:30 remaining I was put into space down the right flank with Kerry Baxter in support. I lobbed the ball to Kerry who neatly sidestepped the final defender before slamming a rising ball past a helpless keeper to extend the margin to four goals. Sonics 4-0. Sonics proceed directly to the Grand Final while Druids have another opportunity when they face the in-form Butchers this Thursday. They came out harder and more determined than us and we found ourselves on the back foot from the get go, said Druids Captain Saxon Hooper. Their pressure turned into goals and before we knew it we were three down and the game was gone. Hopefully we can turn things around vs. Butchers and earn a rematch with Sonics in the Grand Final. After the game the concierge informed me that my bill had been cleared and that he'd pay for the repair of my roof, apparently he'd won no small sum on the back of the Sonics victory.

Raptors win the Longest Game in BAWS History
Qualifying Final - The Penguins vs. Raptors by Sarah Hipwell & Davin Harvey
Minor premiers Raptors taking on the Penguins. The two teams were evenly matched from the beginning. Jason Wheeler took the first goal for the Penguins after 10 minutes and the Penguins managed to keep the Raptors from scoring for the remainder of the half. A penalty against the Raptors early in the second half gave the Penguins a chance to increase their lead, but the Raptors pulled in tight and killed the Penguins power play. Louis Sultana then scored twice for the Raptors giving them the lead for the first time. With the 1 goal lead looking like being enough Jason Wheeler scored for the Penguins with only two minutes remaining for a full time score of 2-2. So began the epic. After five minutes of regulation overtime where teams play 4 on 4 with no goalies, neither team managed to score. The teams then moved into sudden death overtime with next goal winning and putting them into the B Grand Final. Amazingly the sudden death goal didnt come. Five minute period after five minute period with no winning goal. Fast breaks were shut down by desperate back checking, shots were deflected on the last line, the goal post got rattled continuously, deflections went just wide. The overtimes eventually extending the game by over 35 minutes! Finally with 26 seconds to go on the clock in the 7th period of overtime, Davin Harvey scored for the Raptors and the exhausted teams shook hands with a final score of 3-2. The Raptors go straight into the July 2nd Grand Final after winning the longest game in BAWS history eclipsing the previously longest game (an A grade grand final between Thunderbirds and Sky Devils in 2003) by nearly three overtime periods. Raptor's skipper had this to say about the game "If you weren't there, too bad. 3-2 win to Raptors. Was an epic event. Great game from both teams, wouldn't be surprised if the same teams are playing again next Monday. Raptors, great performance to hold the Penguins at bay throughtout the 75mins of game time, particularly amazing effort from both Shannon and Penny to play it out having no subs. Look forward to next week."

Elimination Final - Team IceBucket vs. Ice Devils by Sarah Hipwell
The Ice Devils set the pace early coming out hard and fast. An early goal by Catherine Macdonald put the Ice Devils in the lead. Team Ice Bucket pushed back towards the end of the first half but couldnt score an answering point. At 1-0 at half time, both teams came back giving their all. A penalty against Josh Smith from the Ice Devils for interference looked like giving the Buckets an opportunity to come back, but it was quickly followed by a penalty against Liam Golding from Team Ice Buckets for tripping. In a final effort to level the score, the Buckets pulled goalie Alex Crook off the ice to add another attacking player. This didnt faze the Devils, with Josh Yabsley taking the opportunity of the unguarded posts to score another goal with less than two minutes to go. Another shot at goal followed shortly afterwards but was knocked out of the way. The final score of 2-0 takes the Ice Devils to play the Penguins in the Preliminary Final. The winner will take on Raptors in the Grand Final.

A Division - Week 18
Rangers Knock Over the Minor Premiers
Blacktown Butchers vs. Richmond Ravens by Davin Harvey
The scene was set. Druids and Sonics both safely through to the Qualifying final. However for the other three teams there were 7,287 different equations as to how and how not they could make the finals. Best idea win their remaining games. First game of the night, usually a sloppy affair with the wet ice, but there was too much at stake to faulter on this one. The match up was to decide which of these two teams would get a seat on the finals rollercoaster. If you weren't there....Its like a lunar eclipse, games just don't come around like this too often. Well anyways, I scored, Ravens scored, Pete scored but is a d**khead and forgot to put his own name on the scoresheet hence the goal disallowed and we went to OT. Then we couldn't win and nor could they so we go through, phew! I love Broomball. See you all Monday.

Penrith City Rangers vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Druids started the stronger, scoring first through Nathan Lawler in what was a very fast game. However Rangers had a big lay it on the line meeting before the game and were a much more determined team than the one that gave up 10 goals in their last two games. Soon the pressure told as the equalised. Then midway through the 2nd half took the lead. It was enough to secure the win and secure third place. Good turn around by Rangers, giving them good confidence heading into the finals. Unfortunately for Ravens the win to Rangers and their failure to win the first game of the night saw them miss the finals.

Raptors Take Out the Minor Premiership
Huskies vs. Raptors by Davin Harvey
Raptors had a few goals on the table leading into Monday night's game, maintaining the strong form after losing another key player, Louis Sultana hunting down the leaders of the points award, and most importantly kicking some ass. We got 2 outta 3 in my eyes. Michael Sultana making a welcome return for the Raptors after a season threatening injury certainly lifted the team spirit. Louis Sultana bagged 2 of the 3 goals, and well 3-1 final score is no ass kicking, but happy to walk away with the win. From the face off the game started pretty crappy with both Raptors and Huskies needing a few minutes to find their game. Goofy feet gone and the game progressed well, both teams having some good attacking opportunities, Raptors still a little more flat footed than the Huskies tho. Good keeping as always from Aaron held them out well. I do think this man has something against freezing the ball though, maybe he's looking to beat Muzza's record for total number of saves in a night. (Record currently stands at about 80 against the Frost, Canada). Despite all the Huskies pressure Raptors did manage to get through and Louis Sultana put his first away, the brothers working well as always, Martin getting the pass onto Louis for the opener. 1-0 and this remained for the 1st half. 2nd half Raptors lifted, showing more want for the ball and getting the structure tighter. Shannon Vost scored early in the 2nd period, gaining the ball from a face off and getting a good deep shot in while the goals were crowded. Keeper had little to no vision and the ball found its way into the bottom corner of the goals. 2-0 Raptors. Soon after Raptors made a break away Michael Sultana made a break away and Louis Sultana hunted down in support, Michael drew the keeper and unselfishly passed onto Louis to put away his 2nd for the night. Late in the game Louis Sultana, still getting used to his man stick, was called for tripping. Huskies counted quickly only a minute later with a loose ball in front of goals and it was Luke Simmonds to put it away with a low hard shot, keeper well screened by his defence in Davin Harvey (sorry). Game ended 3-1, good result for Raptors and great to see the dominance continue. Look forward to the finals next week.

Tigers vs. Ice Devils by Saxon Hooper
unfortunately for Tigers they were severly undermanned missing young guns Joel and Oli, plus Captain Sally Yabsley and team inspiration Ben Bell. They also seemed to catch ice Devils on a red hot night. Two goals in the first two shifts of the game set the ball rolling for Devils as they piled on 7 to 1. Good goals to Linda Bell(Tigers) and Catherine MacDonald (Devils). Ice Devils finishing up 3rd and meeting Team Ice Bucket in the elimination final.

Phoenix vs. The Penguins by Jason Wheeler
The Sultry Penguins needed to win to secure second place, and Phoenix, being the great spoilers that they are, tried to destroy the march of the penguins. Having already missed the top 4, Phoenix attempted to create havoc. The tension was tense and the fierceness was fierce. As I stepped onto the ice I realized that this would be a difficult night, someone had left the roof open. A poor decision. Also there was mention of half-time entertainment but my attorney advised against this. Through much trickery and bribery both teams were near full strength. Phoenix defended grimly and threatened to score but for the brilliance of the Penguins sultry keeper, height is everything. Phoenix lost a player for high-sticking (clearly Chappo is too tall) and so began the fun. I took roughly 12 shots during this time, managing to miss the goal every time. The Sultry Penguins captain was irate, in a less than sultry fashion. Words were exchanged, none of them fit for publication. After seeking legal council, I decided that it would be best to leave the country but first we had to do the job. Win the game. Phoenix survived until late into the second half, staving off more advances than an old man in a knitting club. With 2 crucial minutes remaining, I crossed the red line with Daniel Wong in support. He received the ball in front and slotted the winner, collecting a Phoenix foot along the way. 1-0 Penguins after 38 gruelling minutes. We ran the clock down and soaked up what little pressure remained in perfect preparation for the finals. The Sultry Penguins will play Raptors next week for direct qualification into the Grand Final.

Flat Whites over Snow Cones
Snow COnes vs. Flat Whites by Josh Yabsley
This massive grudge match seemed to go on forever, however this time it was all in favour of the Flat Whites with the exception of one moment that seemed to go in slow motion and it went kinda like this. The snow cones youngest player, BIG Jordy, was in possession and he strolled over the red line leaving the others in his wake, Jordy looked at the goal and the Flat Whites keeper (Chappo) knew it was crunch time and so as usual choked. Jordy winds up and his bulging muscles tear the seams in the jersey he swings so hard that the broom bends in to a right angle and follows through so far that he does a full flip, the ball flies through the air leaving only a trail of fire behind as it soars in to the net, leaving the final score at 4-1 and the goals in a smouldering mess. The game went to the Flat Whites but the play of the night goes to Jordy (that monster) well played Snow Cones see you next year, good goal Jordy.

Tuesday Night Broomball
Werrington County Sonics vs. Blacktown Butchers by Saxon Hooper
These games were scheduled to be played just before nationals, however the ice time was needed for Nationals games, hence they got recheduled to Tuesday. The rescheduling meant the teams had played each other just eight days earlier. Last week Sonics came out on top 1-0. Butchers were desperate this week as a loss could see them drop from the finals race. Peter Yabsley scored both of Butchers goals giving them a 2-0 win. Huge game from Louis Sultana running tirelessly to shut down any Sonics break aways or defensive lapses.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Richmond Ravens by Saxon Hooper
Butchers win put the pressure on Ravens, a must win to keep their advantage on Butchers. Druids after Sonics lost just needed to come away with OT points to secure the minor premiership. Was a good tight game finishing 1-1. Goal for Ravens to Dane Hansen, Goal for Druids to Saxon Hooper. OT was won by Druids with a break and hand thingy goal to Saxon Hooper. 2-1 OT for Druids, the minor premiers. Ravens took enough points out of the game to stay in the race.

Flat Whites only C team to do Write Ups
Tigers vs. Flat Whites by Josh Yabsley
This game was closer than the score line shows, the game started with an early goal to the Mighty Whity's, but the tigers defence did save a few of the other attempt's but when the pressure was applied the defence stood no chance. 2-0 then with seconds to go in the first half the flat whites pass the ball to Josh Yabsley standing on half way he winds up and pow, the ball glides through the air past the armies off Tigers and through the arms of the goalie as well. 3-0 at half time. The second half was very controled by the Whites with alot possession and ball control, however the second half only prestented one goal, Cam Parkes scoring. 4-0 sorry Tigers maybe next time but probably not. Love Josh Yabsley (proud captain and winner).

Sonics and Druids Secure Qualifying Final Berths!!
Richmond Ravens vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Ravens and Butchers are locked into equal 4th both on 23 points. Both teams were playing the top teams this week with a chance to sneak ahead of their rivals and make the finals. Ravens with a good record vs Druids were confident of doing just this. Game was an arm wrestle from the start with both teams really making it hard for either team to set up anything in attack or even get into attack effectively. Hence it took until 2.45 to go in the first half for the first goal. A well worked break out saw some ball movement at the back between Linda Bell and Saxon Hooper to open up the right side. Linda found a forward moving Ryan Findlayson who found a breaking Damian Colyer who queezed it past the Keeper. 1-0 Druids half time. Second half was more arm wrestling. Raven's got the first chance when Steve Larter tripped a Raven and found himself in the bin. However the Druids killed the penalty well and maintained their 1-0 lead. Shortly after Big Kosta in a rich vein of scoring added the cushion Druids were after, 2-0 Druids 7 minutes to go. Ravens tried hard, but when Dane Hansen was called for tripping with only 3 minutes to go the game slipped from their grasp. Killed the penalty well but couldnt attack properly while a player down. 2-0 Druids leaving them in the running for the minor premiership with Sonics. Regardless of the outcomes of the remaining games Sonics and Druids will finish 1st or 2nd, meaning that the teams wil square off in the qualifying final in week 1 of the finals. The winner straight through to the 2nd of July Grand Final.

Blacktown Butchers vs. Werrington County Sonics by Jason Wheeler
There was much interest in this clash from Ravens and Rangers, as Butchers were fighting to steal a semi final spot. It also saw the end of an era for Sonics, Marvin Dossi played his last match before he takes broomball to Thredbo. Good luck with that Marvin. Butchers d-e-s-t-r-o-y-e-d, annihilated and humiliated Rangers 6-2 last week, while Sonics accounted for Ravens 3-0. Sonics managed one guy sub while Dee and Ceez played unchanged, both in fine form. Butchers had more than enough on the bench. The chaos began earlier than usual when Dossi darted through the Butchers defence, his shot was deflected by a Butcher defender which meant the keeper could only watch the ball trickle into the goal before it was poached by Tim Brown. With the kill confirmed, Sonics led 1-0 after 2 mins. There should have been many more goals, instead both sides played defensively and gave away few genuine scoring opportunities. Even though the second half was unremarkable, every spectator stayed until the death, all three of them. In a game where both teams promised many goals, only one counted. Sonics home 1-0 in a thriller. Sonics secured at least second with one round left to take on arch rivals Druids in the qualifying final. The fate of Butchers remains uncertain, but they will have a chance for revenge against Sonics next Tuesday. I'd recommend that ALL Sonics players turn up.

The Penguins Retain The IceBucket !!
Ice Devils vs. Huskies by Saxon Hooper
Really must win game for both teams as the season draws to a close and every point is vital in the race for the top 4. As Raptors who had duty in the first game didnt fill in the goal timings I cant really remember what order the goals came in. I think the first goal came fairly early with Dane Hansen driving a shot in which Marc Kuipers deflected. The second goal saw Karen Thompson weave through some defence on the blue line, find the wide open Saxon Hooper who drove the shot in. Huskies replied when Luke Simmonds set up Glen Butler-Fleming to take it to a 2-1 half time score. Huskies were unlucky not to equalise a few times in the 2nd half, just couldnt tap it in when they had the chance. Not to mention Kieran McDonald had an outstanding game in goals saving Devils butts many many times. With not long to go Sam Boer secure the win with flick into the goals from close range. A great 3-1 win to Devils, putting them in contention for a maiden appaearence in the B finals.

Tigers vs. Raptors by Davin Harvey
Monday night saw the Raptors lift their game to new heights once again. Great game structually from the Raptors helped us drive home the win against a quick and well manned roster of Tigers. From the face off, the first 5 mins was all Tigers punishing the Raptors who were unable to effectively break out of their half. Many shots came through, many shots denied by Aaron, and the Raptors continued to scramble in D til we finally got out of our half. From there, the game took a whole new light with Louis Sultana making one of our first break outs to be one on one with the keeper and didn't fault with a quick snap shot finding the back of the net, 1-0. Raptors continued the pressure, working hard on the forecheck and keeping the ball moving between the formation once they'd worked the turn over. It wasn't long before Shannon Vost put Marvin into some space and he converted with his signature flick goal, finesse over brawn. 2-0 Raptors and still with plenty of fire in the belly. Game continued well for Raptors, great movement of the ball with the structure helping to really contol the game as needed and setting up Louis Sultata for his 2nd, Shannon Vost and Marvin Dossi getting the last of the many passes that led Louis onto converting for the 3-0 lead. Score remained unchanged at the end of the period. Message at half time was simple, keep up the great structure and we'll hold this lead. 2nd half and Raptors started hard and fast just as Tigers had done in the first looking to get them straight on the back foot again. This succeeded when Louis Sultana was put into space once again and found the back of the net. Hat trick to Louis and 4-0 lead to Raptors. Tigers put on a great fight, they continued to work some good possession into the Raptors half, didn't get many shots off, but I hope Aaron would've been happy with that. Tigers couldn't buy a break, later in the 2nd half Paul Stockbridge getting called for a high stick, harsh call in my books, but when do I blow the whistle anyway... Raptors failed to convert during the powerplay, full credit to Tigers on the penalty kill, however in the last 5mins, you know who was at it again. Louis Sultana sealed the double hat-trick for the game, brother Martin Sultana giving him the final pass and Louis making it 5-0 for the Raptors. Last 5mins saw no change in the game overall, but the final whistle saw the farewell for our superstar Italian import, Marvin Dossi. It has been a pleasure playing with Marvin, and certainly a great loan deal, costing $0 was cetainly worth every penny. Was a great performance from the Raptors to send Marvin off with, and on behalf of all the Raptors I wish Marvin all the best with his travelling adventures around Australia, and a reminder that there'll be no love lost at Worlds =oP If I make the cut anyways....Raptors, to reiterate, excellent positioning this game, we were able to dominate possession simply by holding this great structure, easy passes allowing us time to create higher percentage opportunities and more importantly we were able to utilise our energy over the full 40. Another Raptor down, I look forward to the coming weeks which will certainly test us.

Team Ice Bucket vs. The Penguins by Jason Wheeler
This game decided the winner of the coveted Penguins/Buckets Trophy after the first game resulted in a frustratingly scoreless draw. It was a tight contest despite Penguins dominating possession and looking home and hosed by half-time. The match featured all of the key ingredients for a traditional Penguins/Buckets clash with end-to-end plays, yelling, fast breaks, yelling, Liam Golding acting as second keeper and plenty of desperation. The game started spot on time to the delight of Buckets who had arrived early in preparation for this crucial match. Several free-spirited and downright rebellious Penguins turned up late leaving the team with 4 players for the first 3 minutes. Team Ice Bucket panicked and struggled to turn over possession, however they didn't squander any chances because there were none to have. Memories of them being unable to score against a 3 man Raptors in OT last week were fresh. 11:45 Jason Wheeler was penalised for tripping Buckets keeper Alex Crook but came off second best after breaking the keeper's fall. 5:22 Wheeler found space and hit the net for a 1-0 lead. 3 minutes later, after an excellent build up James Kristof created confusion in the Buckets defence before passing to Wheeler. He pulled out the driver and netted the ball for a 2-0 lead. Penguins had the game wrapped up at this point. But then something familiar happened, Buckets fought back. Chris Dezman broke out twice, wreaking havoc in the Penguins defence scoring at 17:30 and 9:30 basically on his own. His 10 minutes for Penguins last week must have paid dividends. The game was headed for overtime, until James Kristof scored a sensational goal with 20 seconds remaining. Kristof crossed a head-high ball which would have safely cleared the goal. A Buckets defender attempted to fist the ball away but succeeded only in deflecting the ball into the goal from point blank. Penguins 3-2 at full-time in a thriller and retain the Penguins/Buckets Trophy for the second time. The trophy is on display in my bedroom and also serves as a foot stool, tickets to see it are selling fast. Don't miss out. Penguins will surely meet Team IceBucket in a finals match, which I look forward to.

Butchers give Rangers the CHOP !!
Richmond Ravens vs. Werrington County Sonics by Jason Wheeler
Sonics continued their impressive form with another well controlled game last night. Since the arrival of Marvin Dossi they've only lost 1 of their previous 8 matches, but I'm sure it's only a coincidence. Ravens were desperate for a win while Sonics had an opportunity to narrow the gap on Druids. Sonics started strongly, controlled possession well and fired several shots but were denied by the safe hands of Saxon. Ravens turned defence into attack but the Sonics cover defence held firm... all night. Ravens came very close to scoring from a lose ball but keeper James Kristof flung out his Go-Go-Gadget arm to save the day. 15:00 Dossi broke away and passed to Jason Wheeler in support, keeper unable to make the save from close range. Sonics 1-0. Sonics mounted several more attacking raids, struggling to breach the Ravens defence. 5:00 to half-time: following a wealth of possession and field position, from 5m Tim Brown beat his marker and picked the only available gap to score a classic goal. Sonics 2-0 at half-time. 15:00 Marvin 'Starvin Marvin' Dossi intercepted and crossed half-way with no-one in pursuit. He had plenty of time and space to run up to the keeper but decided to take a shot from the blue line. James Kristof could only watch as the ball rocketed past him, swerving late and causing a Sonic-Boom. Sonics 3-0. The game meandered toward full-time, Ravens continued to press hard but Sonics maintained their enthusiasm and emerged victorious by 3 sensational goals to nil.

Blacktown Butchers vs. Penrith City Rangers by Davin Harvey
Monday night saw the beginning of something beautiful, total Butcher domination. Butchers turned the intencity up this week knowing the end is nigh, and won't be going out without a fight. 3 goals in the first half, Louis (who said I need a man's stick) Sultana kicking us off 5mins in, good finish with Andrew Chapman picking up the assist. 5mins later and Andrew Chapman at it again, bagging his 1st goal of the game. Soon after, Gemma Butler-Fleming positioned herself well at the back post to put one away, Peter Yabsley getting the hard pass in, Lauren Goulden working well in the leadup nabbed the 2nd assist. Aside from all the goals scored, Butchers did well in defence, holding a good structure and tight marking giving the Rangers very little space to work with. 3-0 into the half and the message was clear, hold the lead. 2nd half started out well, Peter Yabsley in the thick of it again putting one away 5 mins in, 4-0 Butchers. Half way through the period a lapse in defence costed the Butchers their clean sheet. 4-1 the score, Tracy Ivin getting the Rangers on the board. A good reply from the Butchers saw Lauren Goulden put a very nice goal in moments later, a nice ball from Peter Yabsley through traffic and a great diving slice over the keeper's shoulder from Lauren (see I do care) Goulden. Rangers unable to reply in a timely manner, Butchers decided to put another one on them, Andrew Chapman with a great first time finish from a hard low cross off Peter Yabsley, 6-1 Butchers. Game continued end to end until in the last minute Daniel Wong put away a consolation goal, again a lapse in the Butchers defence, understandable with the work done throughout this game. Final score 6-2. Top game from all the Butchers tonight, was a great team effort to come away with it as we did.

Clash of the Titans
Raptors vs. Team IceBucket by Davin Harvey
Monday night saw the clash of the titans, 1 vs 2 on the table, and what an epic it was. I wish I could remember it. Game was end to end throughout the 40mins, both teams getting some great chances, both keepers on form keeping clean sheets for the game. Normal time saw 3 penalties, 1 to each team in the first half however neither team was able to capitalise on the advantage and overtime was to decide the game. A big call in the dying seconds of normal time, saw the Raptors start the first 2 minutes of OT one man down. TIB controlled possession throughout but was unable to break through the solid Raptors defence. Team back to full strength, it was the Raptors who started to build more momentum and into Ice Bucket's half, yet still unable to break through either. It took a late turn over with Martin Sultana winning the ball and finding Marvin Dossi to break away and put away the crucial OT goal and see Raptors through 1-0. Was a great game to be a part of, both teams worked hard for it and I'm sure we'll be hearing more from TIB in the finals. Excellent keeping from both goalies full credit to them. Look forward to next week.

Tigers vs. The Penguins by Jason Wheeler
Penguins triumphed 2-0 in the previous encounter but Tigers have since become accustomed to the pace of B-Grade. Penguins have struggled with consistency all season while the Tigers have notched up several wins against more experienced teams. With two more rounds remaining, the finals race is wide open so this was a must win game for both teams. Penguins started without any subs and planned to maintain possession. 18:30 Sara 'Mrs Roffey' Kristof passed inside to Jason 'nothing to see here' Wheeler in Penguins territory who sprinted away to score. 1-0 Penguins. 5 minutes later, Chris Dezmen broke the Tigers defence at half-way and scored past a keeper who refused once again to come off the line. 2-0 Penguins. 2:20 remaining in the first half: Tigers replied with a superb goal to Oliver Smith from 15m out which swerved late to easily beat the sprawling defence. Penguins 2-1. The goals continued 20 seconds from time when Jason Wheeler spotted the Grand Canyon of defensive gaps, lobbing over the defence, chasing and scoring past a stationary keeper for a comfortable 3-1 half-time lead to Penguins. Penguins extended their lead to 4-1 when Tim 'Mr Roffey' Roffey scored a one-touch goal from a perfect Helen 'do you have a nickname?' Smith pass, which proved that Penguins have got plenty of options. Tigers scored a late consolation goal but it wasn't enough to spoil the Penguins party. Penguins victorious 4-2 and closer to booking a semi spot. Join the excitement next week when Team Ice Bucket challenges Penguins for the Penguins-Buckets trophy.

Druids over Butchers in OT (again)
Blacktown Butchers vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper

So far this season these teams have played twice and both times it has been a draw at full time. Both times Druids have won in OT !! Butchers started the game far better, all over Druids in enthusiasm and possession and pressure ! Somehow Druids survived the early onslaught and maintained a clean sheet. Eventually gaining some composure Druids set up in attack. A shot in from the outside from Nathan Lawler found its way to Kosta Sourlas in front of the net. Big Kosta got his stick on it and the ball found it's way to the bakc of the net for a 1-0 lead to Druids. Butchers kept pressing and a flick in by Peter Yabsley found Ben Eagleston unmarked on the post. The ball hit his stick went straight up, Ben fell over and the ball fell on him and rolled gently into the goals. Doesnt matter how it gets there as long as it does.. 1-1. Butchers scored the next goal only 2 minutes later through Gemma Butler-Fleming (see Gem I didnt put Fornal)... who like all good forwards screened the keeper and then scrambled the rebound in. 2-1 Butchers at half time. It took Druids five minutes to even up the score. Typical perimetre offence from Druids saw Saxon Hooper belt a shot into the zone, where Linda Bell got to the rebound and put it away (great goal). 2-2, could the third game between these teams end in OT again ? Yes, no further goals in the game 2-2 full time. Into OT again. Druids winning the face off, took the ball over the centre line. Our two forwards took up their spots on the net. Saxon Hooper spotting Linda Bell wide open on the post, feigned to shoot, but redirected the shot as a pass to Linda. Shannon Vost seeing the danger desperately dived to intercept the pass. Unfortunately for Shannon and Butchers the ball defelected into the net. No option for Shannon as if she didnt go for it, Linda was on hand to tap it in. 3-2 OT win for Druids over Butchers .... Again !!

Penrith City Rangers vs. Werrington COunty Sonics by Jason Wheeler
The final game of the night still managed to draw a capacity crowd, mostly comprised of tramps and vagabonds seeking shelter from the bitter cold. I'd like to think that they sought a high quality game of broomball, cos that's all that was on offer. The game kicked off at 'half-ten'
Q: what happens at 'half-ten'?
A: broomball action and plenty of it.
Sonics had won the past 2 encounters with Rangers 1-0,and 3-2. Summary: Rangers, Rangers, Sonics, Rangers, Sonics, Sonics, Sonics. You do the math. The first half was uneventful except for Daniel Wong falling flat on his back, the referee thought it had something to do with him running into Scott Murray. I'm not sure of the physics involved but when a small, erratic object collides with a large, stable object the outcome is a bit like throwing a pea at a brick wall. With the one player advantage, Rangers capitalized 30 seconds before the interval with a goal to Tracy Ivin assisted by several airswings and deflections from both teams. Rangers 1-0. Barely 40 seconds into the second term, Luke Simmonds broke through the Sonics defence and passed through his legs to Liam Golding with an open net for a 2-0 lead. Sonics replied two minutes later when Jason Wheeler scored (the full 1000 word description and DVD will be available soon). Rangers 2-1. With 11:30 remaining, Luke Simmonds once again out-sprinted the Sonics defence to score 1 on 1 with Saxon. Rangers 3-1. The Sonics players remained optimistic despite only having one sub and both girls playing without a break. With 10:30 remaining, Marvin 'Speed Humps' Dossi volleyed a waist high cross from Scott Murray to reduce the deficit to 3-2. 8:05 remaining, Speed Humps lobbed a pass over half way which was met by a perfectly timed run from Tim Brown who found the back of the net for the equalizer, 3 all. Sonics continued to exploit certain weaknesses in the Rangers defence, while Rangers countered well with several fast breaks. With 2:30 remaining, Jason Wheeler broke the deadlock with a steady shot from 10m out to give Sonics the lead for the first time. Rangers came close to equalizing but even though it took 38 minutes, Sonics had their measure. Defensive lapses aside, this game featured two excellent attacking sides scoring 7 goals in 21 minutes. Despite the spectacle, the crowd still demanded a refund.

B Division - Week 14
The Penguins lose to a Technicality
The Penguins vs. Raptors by Davin Harvey
What have the Raptors done to be subjected to so many injury losses? Monday night saw the Raptors down to their lowest numbers for the season and the outlook is not great at a time when we are firing on all cylinders. Face off began with Aaron, our fearless keeper and Shannon, fearless team member...still getting ready (something about not wanting their house to burn down. Priorities people?!? =oP) This out of the way face off went to Raptors and soon finished with Marvin flicking a goal into the far corner, 1-0 Raptors 1 minute in. Raptors continued well making good attacking opportunities, until the first substitution for Raptors brought Davin Harvey onto the ice. 5 secs on, 1 tackle and 2mins for tripping. Was looking to be a great night....Penguins quickly took advantage and put the ball in the back of the net, but a huge call saw the goal disallowed due to the team sheet not being filled out, namely the goal scorer nowhere to be seen on the team sheet. So, score remained 1-0 and around this time we got our fearless keeper on the ice to ensure Penguins wouldn't get another chance like that. Raptors then went on the rampage, attacking hard while a man down and held Penguins out well for the 2mins. Louis Sultana put Raptors 2nd away mid way through the half, good confident finish. 2-0 Raptors into the half time break and breathing a little heavier than usual. 2nd half saw Raptors defending/scrambling a lot more, attack was quite subdued. Some great keeping from Aaron, even toying with the attackers sending the ball straight back to them, 'try again' was clearly the message. Raptors dropped off their game in the 2nd half, team was looking very flat as the Penguins continued to come at us. Penguins eventually broke through the defence, Jason Wheeler with a snap goal from a loose ball in front of goals towards the end of the 2nd half. Soon after, Daniel Wong on a break away and 1 on 1 with the keeper was shut out by a great pick off from Aaron Toomey saving the Raptors from a certain overtime period otherwise. Great 1st half effort from the Raptors, 2nd half a little lax, lucky to come away with it. Some great keeping certainly helped secure this one. To the refs, thanks for sticking by the call too, was a crappy one to make to disallow a goal, but you gave every fairness to the Penguins and in the end they hadn't done what was required. Look forward to next week.

Phoenix vs. Ice Devils by Saxon Hooper
Must win game for these two middle of the table teams. An early Penalty against Sam Boer put Phoenix on the attack, but Devils killed well. Just after the kill Marc Kuipers made a steal and broke away to score for Devils. Devils maintained their lead right until just on half time where Damo Colyer went through the defence took a shot and a deflection off the defence and made it 1-1. The 2nd half saw a heap of chances for both teams however neither could score. It looked like it was heading to OT, until with 8 seconds to go a goal moutch scamble had Dee Scarano on hand to flick it in for Devils to pinch the win. 2-1 Ice Devils.

Team IceBucket vs. Tigers by Liam Golding

Ravens Grab Much Needed Win
Richmond Ravens vs. Penrith City Rangers
Ravens finally got a win on the board with a tight 2-1 over Rangers. Dane Hansen scored first for Ravens with 8 minutes to go in the first half. Early in the 2nd half Rangers tied it up with Lisa Price scoring. However just a minute later with still 16 minutes left in the game Dane Hansen combined with Krys Lockhart again to complete his double and a 2-1 win for Ravens.

Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington COunty Sonics by Saxon Hooper
Typical tight tough game from these two teams. Last time they met it was the Marvin Dossi and Tim Brown show combining to score 3 goals in 10 minutes to take out Druids 3-1. This time Druids never allowed them the space to move. Hence 0-0 half time. Druids with more subs pushed the game hard and the Sonics began to tire. Druids getting more and more opportunites as the game wore on. Eventually with 4 minutes to go Saxon Hooper made a break around a tired defender and slotted the ball home 1 on 1 with the keeper. 1-0 Druids.

B Division - Week 13
The Penguins spank Devils
The Penguins vs. Ice Devils by Jason Wheeler
A determined Penguins outfit dominated the dogged but undisciplined Devils. Penguins fielded 7 players with only 2 players being substituted while Devils filled up the team sheet with 12. Penguins deprived Devils of possession from the outset dispensing the ball at will with devastating effect. 15:30 James "Jimmy the Hat"Kristof deceived the Devils defence leaving them in disarray before directing a dazzling pass to Jason "apparently talks too much about himself in write-ups" Wheeler in front with a trademark turn and shoot which beat the obstructed Devils keeper. 1-0 Penguins. Devils dug deep, desperate to decrease the deficit and were unlucky to be denied a goal. 1:00 As the game drifted toward a dull and disappointing display of defense, dependable Daniel "dividends?" Wong delivered a delightfully designed goal. Dashing from half-way,Wong drew the keeper out then deftly scooped the ball over the top for a 2-0 Penguins lead. The second half saw the Penguins dominate possession, determined to create disorder and dismay in the Devils defence. 14:30 Wheeler intercepted and drove a shot into the diving Devils keeper who did well to deflect the ball, unfortunately straight back to the shooter who kindly returned the ball to its home. A respectful celebration ensued possibly. 3-0 Penguins. 11:15 Karen Thompson inspired some hope of a Devils comeback when she capitalised on some possession and patience to reduce the margin to 2. 3-1 Penguins. Penguins deployed some set plays, duping the Devils defence with dummy runs and dynamic attack which paid dividends when Amran "oh, I forgot" Sinha overdue for a goal dramatically drilled a shot from short range. The ball nearly decapitated the keeper and bounced straight out of the goal, but there was no doubt that the Penguins had scored again to lead 4-1. 1:00 Jason Wheeler split the increasingly docile Devils defence, drew a defender before passing to an unmarked James Kristof who delivered the perfect finish for a decisive 5-1 Penguins victory. Penguins gave their best performance of the year, while Devils continued to develop their defence but found it difficult to deny a team with several scoring options.

Phoenix vs. Team IceBucket by Andrew Chapman
Another quality match was expected for the clash between Phoenix and Team Ice Bucket. It didn't start that way though. Phoenix's possession was mainly around the middle of the ice - we got a lot of ball from TIB's failed attacks in our half, and couldn't really press too much past the attacking blue line. Similarly, TIB's efforts didnt produce much, however they pushed into attacking territory a lot more, only to be denied by our defenders - Jo, Alana and Katie. Finally, Liam made a nice cherry pick on half way (thanks to a dodgy pass by yours truly), and sprinted his way up to the goals, and slotted a nice shot home past our sleeping keeper, who claimed she wasn't really watching, and should have been paying more attention. This summed up the majority of Phoenix's first half. The second half was much better. Phoenix was now pushing up on TIB's goals, and a lot of shots were denied. A lot of control in the centre of the ice by Damo, and a great passing game from Jo and Alana resulted in a lot of possession by Phoenix in the second half. TIB was increasing the pressure to ensure they kept their 1 goal lead. Not to happen though. With about 8 minutes to go I gave an awesome pass to Dominic, who got the ball past the keeper, and then had it nicely guided into the goal by Liam. Thanks Liam - top effort. Then about 30 seconds later, Liam (again!) tried to block yet another awesome pass by me, but failed. This time my pass went to Matt, who had no trouble getting the ball into the back of the net. 2-1 to Phoenix. TIB then tried furiously for the next 7 minutes to get something happening, but alas it wasn't meant to be. Final score 2-1 to Phoenix

Huskies vs. Tigers
Huskies jumped out to a 3-0 lead before half time with goals to Glen ButlerFleming, Nathan Lawler and Luke Simmonds. Tigers pulled one back late in the game but it was too little too late. 3-1 Huskies.

One Goal in 90 Minutes....
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Penrith City Rangers by Saxon Hooper
Not much to report in a game that went 2 normal periods and one 5 minute OT period without goals without any goals. Druids played their normal structured offence for the entire game and created more real chances. Rangers fell back into their old fast break style but couldnt convert any of those chances either. 0-0 half time, 0-0 full time. The last two minutes of OT was all Druids, peppering the goals, hitting defenders, goal posts but not finding the back of the net. 0-0 at the end of OT.

Richmond Ravens vs. Blacktown Butchers by Davin Harvey
Butchers Peter Yabsley scored with 17 seconds to go in OT to give Butchers the 1-0 OT win !

Raptors Surge to Top of Table
Phoenix vs. Tigers by Andrew Chapman
This write up is brought to you by the letter W and the number 5. Perhaps it was the week off since Nationals, perhaps it was the wet and greasy ice, or perhaps it was because I'm unfit and a trifle lazy. Whatever the reason, it was a tough game against the Tigers. The game started quite slow, especially for our Adelaide import Alana, who spent a large portion of the first half sprawled on the ice somewhere (everywhere) due to the above mentioned greasy/wet ice. Tigers have a forward pack with speed that would put Shirvo to shame, and their defenders hold their ground like some guy in some sport I can't think of right now. I'll just call them The Wall. We decided to avoid the front line and headed straight for The Wall. Our attempts to penetrate The Wall were about as successful as the ACT Mens Elite trying to field a full team on the ice in the Nationals final. Tigers had better opportunities, trying the shots from outside the blue line, into a scrambling attack on the net. But we stopped all of them. Notable mention to Joel and Kristy for some spectacular saves, some of which I don't think they realised they did. Matt nearly scored a few times, unlucky touches and shots getting blocked by The Wall. Some passing happened, and then some shots, and then some more passing. And maybe a bit of running. But not much. Before we could repeat the cycle, the full time buzzer sounds. Into overtime we went, and by this time the wet ice had gone, so we only had to deal with greasy. Somehow we got the ball on the red line and had a run toward the Tiger's final defender. Damo's brother Dominic took on that defender, picked up the loose ball, and nicely placed it into the back of the net for an OT win. Dominic played an awesome game... much better than Damo, whose only claim to fame was getting sent off for 2 minutes. Not our best game so far, but we're getting the basics right, with lots of passing and communication. And we won, so that's good enough for me. Go Phoenix!

Huskies vs. Team IceBucket by Liam Golding
OK. So three weeks break from the regular comp, and then we get to play against the Huskies. I can't remember any pre-game thoughts or expectations. Anyway, I don't think anyone expected the start, because we went 1-0 up after about 20 seconds. It was good to get that early goal, because then things settled down for a while into a good game. Attack and defence working reasonably well for both teams. Huskies equalised late in the first half, apparently when they had a man in the penalty box for one of those naughty things. It must have been a really naughty move too, because the game went a bit like nationals - checking and sliding into people was fine unless you drew blood. (and I mean that it was mostly me doing that too. ) ANYWAY... half time 1-1. Then we got 2 more goals sometime in the second half. I really can't remember when or how. A penalty against us for flying sticks, but no luck with making use as our defence manged to get there - just. So 3-1 final score, goals to Me, Chris and Mark, antigoal to Simmo.

Raptors vs. Ice Devils by Davin Harvey
Raptors went to top of the B table with a 2-0 win over Ice Devils.

Sonics on a Roll
Blacktown Butchers vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
The match started fairly evenly with nothing really looking as though it was going to happen, both teams holding the ball well without really threatening the goal until a very poor defensive error from James Kristof led to Pete Yabsley getting a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper which inevitably ended up in the back of the net. 1-0 Butchers within the first 10 minutes of the match. From then however, the game's tempo changed, Butchers seemingly content to defend their 1-0 lead allowed Rangers to dominate possession, holding to a tight defensive zone. While this gave Rangers plenty of possession, it also starved the Rangers of any real scoring opportunities as they could not break down Butchers' zone. 1-0 Butchers at halftime. The second half saw much the same play as the first half until Luke Simmonds got on a fast break, 1 on 1 with the keeper he executed a perfect draw and off hand flick over the keepers shoulder, straight out of the Saxon Hooper coaching manual. 1-1. Rangers now were all attack as Butchers seemed to struggle to lift in intensity after defending a 1-0 lead for so long, and in the closing minutes Bryan Macklin got a loose ball in front of the goal and from about 1 foot out, wound up and hammered the ball into the top of the net to give Rangers a match winning goal. 2-1 Rangers in another tight tussle between these two teams.

Richmond Ravens vs. Werrington County Sonics by Jason Wheeler
Sonics (the team that Tim built) powered to their third successive win last night, overpowering a Ravens outfit that seemed powerless to breach the powerful Sonics defence. Five weeks ago, these teams played out a scoreless draw that had many a player questioning their own existence and commitment to broomball. These people overreacted. Since then, Sonics have been on a roll and Ravens haven't. In this competition, ladder positions are irrelevant and every game is an even contest which makes for an ideal Nationals preparation. The game started with a drop, followed by a pass, another pass, a tackle and probably a whistle or another pass. Sonics controlled possession and the Ravens keeper received a pounding from Scott Murray, making several diving saves. After 11 minutes, Marvin Dossi got involved by passing to a sprinting Jason Wheeler who ran from half way to set up a one on one meeting with the Ravens keeper. Despite wearing kit shoes, a kit helmet, ski gloves and brown pants Wheeler scored from an inside edge that was deflected by the keeper into the far post and trickled through for a deserved 1-0 lead to Sonics. After half-time, the game meandered for a while and Sonics fared well in defence despite rotating positions several times. With five minutes to play, the Ravens heavy hitters were searching for a reply but only found more misery when Tim Brown intercepted and busted through a tight gap. The slashing Ravens defence failed to arrest Brown's progress and he converted a sharp goal to take the game beyond Ravens reach. Sonics 2-0 at full-time and combining well as a unit.

Lisa Price beats Ice Devils
Phoenix vs. Raptors by Davin Harvey
Monday night saw a big turn around of events since the last match up with these 2 teams. 6-0 in the previous encounter, but no signs of such a hiding this round. Game underway and Raptors held good possession throughtout the half, putting together some good 1-2's everyone working well together in attack. Structure was set up well, good pressure from the Raptors on the forecheck and in defence. It took 7mins for the first goal to be scored. Shannon Vost with a lovely run to the goals, Phoenix defence nowhere to be seen, got the quick flick shot off and 1-0 to Raptors. For the remainder of the half possession went both ways, Raptors looking for their 2nd, Phoenix looking to respond, no changes though, 1-0 at half time to Raptors. 2nd half saw Phoenix lift the intensity and Raptors continue to press the Phoenix defence, both creating some great opportunities, only good keeping and some quick reacting defence saving the day. Late in the 2nd half Marvin Dossi decided to up the pressure on the Raptors defence, getting sent for 2mins for tripping. While captain Davin Harvey did not appreciate the call, the decision had been made and it took all of the Raptors energy and wits to keep the Phoenix pressure at bay. 2mins over and Raptors came away unscathed, excellent performance against the powerplay. With under 2mins to go it was Phoenix's turn to take a turn shorthanded. Raptors held possession for the remaining time, not looking to give the Phoenix attack any final opportunity and the result finished 1-0 Raptors. Good game from Raptors structure wise, did really well holding formation for the bulk of the game. Our passing game is continuing to strengthen, good movement around the ice and looking for those options. Great keeping from Aaron again this week, Raptors' 2nd cleansheet for the season. Really good to see we're really all lifting as a team. Looking forward to our next game.

The Penguins vs. Huskies by Gemma Butler-Fleming
The Huskies were keen to break their losing streak that seemed to have continued for years. With no subs, the task was daunting at best. At the start of the game, however, Huskies found some of the form that had led them to victory in the 2005 Summer Mixed B comp. Nationals training was paying off and Huskies maintained possession early in the half. Less than three minutes into the game, Glen Butler-Fleming had passed to Luke "You're Sh#t Schmoo" Simmonds who was quick to flick the ball towards goals where Gemma Butler-Fleming, in a rare attacking move, was waiting for the deflection. The crowd went wild as Huskies led 1-0. Huskies won 2-1.

Team IceBucket vs. Ice Devils by Liam Golding
Ok, so what to say about our game against the ice devils on Monday... well we were struggling to field a full team, and so we really like Bec Davis for jumping on for us and making the teams even. That said, the game commenced with a good omen, as after about 10 seconds from the first drop, the Sax ran through the middle of our team, went one-on-one with a keeper, (Russel filling in,) and didn't score. It wasn't long after that however, that Chris decided that he was not going to get his hat trick of hat tricks this week When I got a breakaway and gave him the ball about 1 metre out from the goal, without even the keeper to beat, he decided that he liked the back of the boards better than the back of the net, so no goal to us either. (Editors Note: Classic symptons of someone suffering Samitus). The game settled down a bit after that, with some good atacking and defending by both sides. The first goal game to me () when I jumped on a loose pass a second before Keiran got there, and popped it over him into the goal. (A Grade score for Ice Devils: Dane -1, Saxon 0, Sam 0) It turned out this was about 30 seconds before half time. With a full team now, or at least as full as it was going to get that night, we settled into to really good play. I think we played better than we have for quite a while too. Still with only one sub for the guys, people started getting out of puff, but the effort was always there in chasing back as the increasing frequent Ice Devil attack ran at our keeper. They did get a breakthrough about 7 or 8 out from full time when they scored. It was a well organised goal, as there attackers managed to manufacture a good shot which took a deflection, and slipped into our goal. (A Grade score for Ice Devils: Dane -1, Saxon +1, Sam 0) We had some more attack, a post or two. Bry realised that after he runs thorugh three people, someone will always be there to stop him. About 1 minute or so out from full time, Marc beat our defense to have a one on one with Alex. Eventually he got the ball passed him, but by this time the defence had returned to knock the ball out of mid-air as it was about to score. And thus we went to overtime. Ice Devils had pretty much all of the possesion here for the first minute or two. Until, that is, Lisa stole the ball from Saxon right on the half way, looked up and saw no-one, and so slotted it right into the back of the net from there. (A Grade score for Ice Devils: Dane -1, Saxon 0, Sam 0) And then we won. A great game, where both teams played really well, and traditional TIB, as it was an overtime finish.

Tigers 3-2 over Devil Knights.

Flat Whites vs. Snow Cones by Shannan Heinitz
The Flat Whites won against the Snow Cones this match 6-0. Cameron Parkes scored 3 goals and the other three goals were scored by Kirby, Josh and Shannan. The majority of the match was played in the Snow Cone's half, with a couple of good breaks into the Flat Whites half where it was one on one with the Flat White's goalie and the Snow Cone's attacker. The Snow Cone's goalie did an excellent job protecting the goals from Flate White's relentless attacks.

Sonics End Druids Unbeaten Run
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington County Sonics by Jason Wheeler
The Sonics have turned things around over the past month, they can now score multiple goals and defensively are as strong as ever. Druids entered this game undefeated with five wins on the trot and they seemed to have all their usual personnel on deck. Sonics were hit by injury (trench foot to be specific) and started a player down. Druids camped in attack for the first 3 minutes, and their moment came when Saxon spotted an opening and passed to Ryan Findlayson who wound up and smoked a winner for the early lead. Penny Vost then took the ice in a brief cameo for Sonics, only to be relieved by a fashionably late Ceez Kim. The rest of the half was scoreless as chances were difficult to come by. Druids 1-0 H/T. 9 mins into the second term, just when Druids were looking comfortable, Tim Brown bolted (does he know any other speed) down the left boards and turned in with Marvin "who ya gonna call" Dossi in support. Things got a bit blurry here but the pass was pinpoint and Dossi finished with his trademark flick. 1-1. With 7 mins remaining Sonics got into some space along the boards, Jason Wheeler turned toward goal and scored a rather inelegant goal that was light on style but heavy on determination. Sonics 2-1. Druids stepped up a notch in the last 5 mins but were unable to crack the Sonics stonewall defence. In the final minute, Ceez Kim intercepted a pass and put Dossi into space for Sonics third goal and a terrific 3-1 win over the previously undefeated Druids.

Penrith City Rangers vs. Richmond Ravens by
Following a mid-season slump in form the Rangers are now in the beginning of a rebuilding phase of strategy and confidence. During the first half Rangers' poor form continued as lax, unorganised defence almost certainly seemed destined to end up in a large half-time deficit as Ravens maintained heavy pressure in attack, creating several overlaps in the slot. However miraculously they were unable to find the back of the net and it looked as though the half would end 0-0 until Luke Simmonds got on a fast break late in the half, drawing the keeper and when attempting to pass the ball to an open Bryan Macklin, got a deflection off a defender which took the ball as well as about three players into the back of the net. 1-0 Rangers at half time. In the second half, the Rangers finally started to improve their game, more talk and more devotion to defensive tasks saw a much tighter structure, although Ravens still created too many overlaps in the slot area and were unlucky to score early in the second half. The game was put beyond doubt though as the game towards its end, Bryan Macklin assisting Daniel Wong to make it 2-0 to the Rangers, who then withstood two penalties in the closing minutes to hold out the Ravens attack. 2-0 to Rangers at full-time, a much needed win but still far from a comprehensive performance.

Penguins and Phoenix Play Out the Most Exciting 0-0 Draw Ever !!
Huskies vs. Raptors by Davin Harvey
Raptors welcomed their star keeper back from injury Monday night, a few sighs of relief were heard knowing they wouldn't be subbing into keeper. These sighs might've been misheard though as half the Raptors team came straight from the sick bed to be here, and it was showing. Game underway and the first 5 mins saw the Raptors giving up a lot of easy possession, the 2 teams' jerseys being very similar in colour didn't help, but certainly a lot us were running with cloudy heads. Huskies were taking it to the Raptors in attack getting some good breaks on, too often desperation defence or wayward shots saving the day. The first goal came half way through the match, Penny Vost getting the ball in our defensive half up to Aaron Parker who combined well with Louis Sultana in a 1-2-3-4 situation before Louis got a good low hard shot past the keeper, 1-0 Raptors but Huskies weren't about to rest. Huskies continued to work Raptors with their pace and good ball movement in attack creating some very dangerous opportunities, Raptors lucky to go into the break on top. 2nd half, message was keep your head up and lets hold that lead. Huskies however were keen to get a reply and with some good positioning on the posts Nathan Lawler was able to get the goal Huskies needed early in the 2nd half. The battle was on, who would break the dead lock? Both teams worked hard throughout the period creating some good attacking opportunities, Huskies leaving Raptors for dead towards the end with their onslaught of fast breaks, good keeping the only thing between Huskies and the win. Raptors in turn made some great chances, the more we took our time in attack with our passing the more dangerous we looked. It wasn't until the last 10 seconds the deadlock was broken. Marvin Dossi hearing the call '10 secs left!' took the ball over half way and from the top corner got off a blinding shot that almost sent the keeper back through the net, 2-1 Raptors in a thriller! For Huskies it was their 5th one goal defeat in six games.. heartbreaking !! Top effort from the Raptors tonight, the energy levels certainly struggled with so many sick but we fought as well as we could and were rewarded with the win. Huskies certainly giving us a big challenge, as always the big game rivalry continues between the 2 teams.

Ice Devils vs. Tigers by Saxon Hooper
Tigers were missing about 14 players but still had 8 show up. Ice Devils were all missing key players meaning their B boys were going to do it tough. Early on while fresh the Ice Devils were doing all the running just missing several chances to score. Then somewhat against the run of play Leanne Sadler launched a goal seeking missile from out wide. Ice Devils keeper got some body on it but it powered past him and into the net giving Leanne her first ever B grade goal ! Ice Devil A graders scoreline.. Sam Boer -1, Dane Hansen 0, Saxon Hooper 0. The goal lifted Tigers and they took the 1-0 lead into half time. Ice Devils didnt look likely as Tigers implemented an awesome 2-1-2 zone defence (freshly learnt at Nationals training on Sunday). The zone held and held until with only 6 minutes in the game Saxon Hooper was able to scramble, scrap, pick up a lucky bounce or two, dodge someone, fumble past another, grab a rebound and chop home a goal between the keepers legs. Ice Devil A graders scoreline.. Sam Boer -1, Dane Hansen 0, Saxon Hooper +1. 1-1 game on.. Both teams managed to hold out for the draw and send the game into OT. Ice Devils pretty much controlled posession but Tiger would not let them through. A turn over lead to a Tigers break but Cathering McDonald cleaned up at the back and got Ice Devils back into attack. Sam Boer took it upon himself to right the wrong of the -1 A grade score and beat a defender and slot it past their last line giving Ice Devils the OT win !! Ice Devil A graders scoreline.. Sam Boer 0, Dane Hansen 0, Saxon Hooper +1.

The Penguins vs. Phoenix by Jason Wheeler
This game promised plenty of excitement and goals, and it certainly delivered, except for the goals. The Penguins missed Daniel "I've got better things to do" Wong in attack but managed to generate enough opportunities. The Penguins welcomed yet another new recruit into their colony, David Smith. Both teams defended well, even though there were some breakaways these were foiled by good cover defence and sharp keeping. Both sides will have to work on their communication and zone defence in the coming weeks. Overtime featured the most exciting period of play from the Penguins who looked certain to score on several occasions from the blue line, only to barely miss on each occasion. With 1 minute remaining, Damien Colyer intercepted a pass and ran inside Penguins territory with an open goal in front of him. The cover defence forced him to shoot early from only 2m inside the half and the ball drifted wide by all of 20 cm. The game ended in a frustrating extra time draw which is becoming a bit of a trend for certain teams.

Flat Whites Back on Track
Flat Whites vs. Devil Knights by Josh Yabsley
After a shaky preseason the Flat Whites were fired up to level the score with certain teams and the Devil Knights were one of these teams. Flat Whites all worked late so we played the first half of the game with only four players. And by half way through the first half the rest of the team was ready to play, but the Devil Knights were unable to take advantage of this power play. Just after all the Flat whites had turned up some of us decided to get sent off because we liked playing short. But yet again the Devil Knights were unable to take advantage of this. During the captain Josh Yabsleys two minute rest the Flat Whites forgot what defense was and all them attacked and after several hits Penny Vost was able to score her first goal ever. Flat Whites held possession for most of the game and late in the first half the Flat Whites put together some great control and scored a great team goal finished off by Josh Yabsley. The rest off the game was full of some great shots by to no avail as the Devil Knight Keeper played the game of his life saving every thing that was thrown at him, but he has some nice bruises from Yabsley and Chapo shots. Well played Devil Knights. Good team game by the Flat Whites.

Sonics Unleash their Italian Import
Penrith City Rangers vs. Werrington County Sonics by Jason Wheeler
In the first round these teams were only separated by a Kerry Baxter goal. In that game the Rangers attack was continually repelled by a well co-ordinated Sonics backline. Would history repeat itself, if you listen to Split Enz then you would have to say history never repeats. Sonics star recruit Marvin Dossi opened the scoring with a weaving run and sensational finish. Lisa Price replied 2 minutes later after some excellent screening. 3 minutes before the break, Kerry Baxter put Tim Brown into space and he made no mistake steering the ball home for a 2-1 HT lead to Sonics. Rangers equalized shortly after the break via a James Kristof special that found its way through several diving defenders. Exasperated Sonics players maintained that you cant score from those sorts of angles. At 2-2 this game far outshone the first round match for excitement and execution of opportunities, but the excitement was just beginning. With 9 minutes remaining Sonics John Skiadas bolted down the left wall and fired in a pinpoint pass to Jason Wheeler who looked up (it does happen) to see a tantalising gap. The ball snuck in for a 3-2 Sonics lead. The Rangers tried hard for an equalizer but it was the Sonics game, 3-2 victors.

Blacktown Butchers vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
The Butchers got off to a perfect start scoring inside the first minute. Peter Yabsley finishing sublimely after making the break away. The goal lifted the Butchers and they were all over the Druids for the first 12 minutes or so. Druids however finally settled and managed to start putting together their offence and sured up their defence. With only a minute to go Damo Colyer who has been in great form so far this season, made a steal on half way and sprinted away for a one on one. A beautifully executed left handed hand thingly straight from sundays's training to even up the scores. 1-1 half time. Druids had more and more of the play as the game went on but good scrambling and some good keeping meant that the scores remained 1-1 at full time. For the 2nd time this season these two teams were going into overtime. From the face off Ryan Findlayson tried a run through the defence and nearly made it except of a stick from Peter Yabsley tripping him over. 2 minutes Yabsley. 4 on 3 power play for Druids. It didnt take long for Druids to work the ball forward good passing between Ryan Findlayson and Saxon Hooper, and good screening by Alana Bracken and Linda Bell to open up the net for Saxon Hooper to slot home the OT winner. 2-1 Druids again in OT over Blacktown Butchers. A Grade is extremely tight this season. Of the 12 games there have been 5 go to overtime, 1 draw and 4 overtime wins resulting. Of the 12 games so far 9 have been decided by a sinlge goal. Only two games have resulted in a a margin of more than 1 goal, Druids over Ravens 2-0 in week 2 and Rangers over Butchers 3-1 in week 4.

Raptors Go Italian on Phoenix
Ice Devils vs. Team IceBucket by Liam Golding
Ok.So it seems no-one got that it was the Eminem show last week. It helps when my paragraphing is deleted. But don't worry, because this week it was the Chris Dezman show... again! It could be said, (but not by me, 'cause I just won't,) that Chris featured strongly in our 4-1 win over the Ice Devils on Monday nignht. He scored 3 of our goals again, and Russel (I think!) got the other one. I don't particularly remember who scored the goal against us, but we were three up at that stage, so I don't think I was too fussed. Unless of course I could blame Lisa for conceeding the goal, because she's a girl, so it was probably all her fault. But everyone else of course, played a really top game. Passes stuck, marking up was best it's been in a long while, runs were being made and received, and despite the mutual send off when Chrish and Josh started showing how much they like each other, it was a pretty clean game. Next week we have the bye, and then it's the Easter break, so I guesss it will be three weeks (is this a sign?) until Chris gets to try and get his hat trick of hat tricks when we play Ice Devils in a rematch. A grade count, Saxon Hooper +1, Sam Boer -2, Dane Hansen -2. Score count Team IceBucket 4 defeated Devil Knights 1.

Huskies vs. The Penguins by Jason Wheeler
After the devastating effects of watching the latest Rocky film last week, the Penguins instead took inspiration from the return of super-coach Guus Hiddink. His Dutch flare inspired many vital changes in both attack and defence, but most importantly cuisine (chips doused in mayonnaise really is an experience). I struggled to see the wisdom in wearing speedos at training, considering this is not an aquatic sport, but Guus likes to have his way. With Nationals fast approaching, all players were keen to display their skills. Some did and some didnt, but everyone will get picked, except maybe for Wongy. Entering this game the Penguins were running fourth and Huskies winless after 4 games despite being a quality team. Seven Penguins and about as many Huskies took the ice last night which the Penguins are accustomed to. Luke Simmonds gave the Huskies the early lead with a fine individual goal after 5 minutes of slick ball movement. The Penguins responded 3 minutes later with a goal to Jason Wheeler courtesy of some excellent lead up play and hit the lead when James Kristof latched onto a sharp pass from his sister Sara. HT score Penguins 2-1. During half-time Guus Madman Hiddink ranted and raved, cursing everyone from the Penguins defence to the pizza delivery guy who turned up an hour late. Through the tirade, some important tactical changes were conveyed, such as poor communication in defence and rushed passes in general play. The second half was as frenetic as the first, Luke Simmonds always looked dangerous and Nathan Lawler forced plenty of saves. With 12 minutes remaining Lawler beat most of the Penguins and hammered an unstoppable shot to tie up the scores at 2-2. The Penguins replied 3 minutes later through a set play, Sara (3 assists for the game) and James moved the ball quickly to put Wheeler in space and despite being one-on-one with the keeper scored for a 3-2 lead. The remaining 8 minutes were exciting enough but the game remained 3-2. The Penguins decided to crack open a few victory beers, only to find them gone and Guus passed out in the carpark.

Raptors vs. Phoenix by Davin Harvey
Monday night saw the Raptors continue their great form with a strong win over Phoenix. Penny and Shannon, amazing effort again this week both putting in some very solid work in defence and backing up well in attack to keep the dominant pressure on all game. Hats off to you both. Game started out with Raptors holding the more possession over Phoenix putting together some good attack, and more importantly strong fore checking to win the ball back in their half. Our 1st goal came early in the half, just under 5 mins in with Louis Sultana getting us underway, Aaron Parker bagging the assist also. Phoenix continued to scramble and managed several fast breaks, unlucky not to convert on several occasions. 5 mins later it was Marvin Dossi's turn to get on the board. His first for the night coming in with just under 10mins to go in the half. 2-0 Raptors and with everyone working hard in attack the message at half time was simply not to forget our defensive line. Raptors were getting caught on the back foot quite a bit with Phoenix transitioning quickly out of their half. 2nd half saw the possession even up, Phoenix getting over the half a lot more and working their way in with some good ball movement. Raptors heard the call at half time and went to work ensuring the ball wasn't getting in the back of their net. Attacking pressure continued well from both sides in the early stages of the 2nd half, and it was the Raptors who would get on the board first again. Louis putting away his 2nd with a good one time shot off a waist height cross from the corner, Davin Harvey with the assist. 3-0 Raptors and they continued to lift the pressure. While Raptors looked to settle in and hold onto their win they were certainly not done yet and managed to put 3 goals away in the last 5 mins of the game, Marvin with 2 within the space of a minute to notch up his 1st hat-trick of the season and Louis putting away his 3rd in the final minute of the game, Aaron Parker giving a perfect rebound pass off the back wall behind the goals (or was it a shot? =oP) and Louis Sultana with the one-timer for his hat-trick. Game fininshing up 6-0. A wonderful effort from all the Raptors again this week, really lifted our tempo, supporting one another all the time in attack and defence, good passing and general ball movement, and most importantly to keep a clean sheet against a strong team such as Phoenix was a stellar performance. Hats off to the Phoenix team also, despite the scoreline they worked hard all game and didn't give up any easy ice even in the dying minutes. Look forward to next week Raptors.

Clownz upset the Tigers
Tigers vs. Carney Clownz by Amran Sinha
This weeks match of the round featured champion Tigers and the volatile Clowns. At first it seemed both teams were as per program - but Tigers were missing their young cubs- although you couldnt tell unless there was a roll call cause there were just so many. There was bound to be some controversy with Macklin (who, somehow, recently got back into TIBs circle of trust) officiating. Credit to everyone for doing their best and keeping a lid on him. The Carneys dont win alot of games but this night was special. It was about fancy, relief and celebration. The first goal was a real poachers goal- Becko reacting sharply to poke in and, by doing so scoring her first goal ever! Great goin!! On-lookers were dazzled by Clown Captain Marty Brennan as he controled the tempo of the game with his sublime ball movement. Him and Becko were not only able to contest, but beat the strong Tiger defence lines. Hence, the game was pretty much played in mid-field for the second quarter. In many instances Zweggs holding her own to deny half chances. The scoreline 1-0 was mintained till half time. Like in most games of bb the second half was an open, end-to-end affair. Where Clown Josh could run attacking raids with no fear. This lead to Carneys second goal. 2-0 to clowns, Tigers looked Desperate and Muma inspired her troops to flare - and they did, showing great aggression! Although when your hot your smoking and as a team the clowns were on fire. After the surge by the Tigers, Marty was again able to step up and hold possession powering Jacob to use in thoughtful touches to initate ball movement, ultimately involving the entire team. A little bit of sustained pressure lead to Jacob drilling home the third goal - his first in 3 years! The shot kept low wizzing past an unsighted keeper blocked by Josh. Although there were no more goals a memorable moment was when Becko made break from our defensive third by out-witting a charging Stocky. One huge positive for the Tigers was they never gave up, they always went in with intent in contesting 5050s. However as said above this was a night of celebrations in the Clown camp!

Ice Bogans vs. Devil Knights by Keiran McDonald
This was a very fast paced game with both teams having plenty of scoring chances early in the first half but not being able to put it away. Half time score was 0 0. Second half devils got a good breakaway and managed to score a goal with it. Goal Steve Sevil. A little bit later Marc Kuipers passed the ball to Pearce Van de Pol who got Devils second goal for the night. Final score 2 0 Devil Knights over Ice Bogans.

A Division - Week 5
Druids Undefeated through Round 1
Penrith City Rangers vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Druids needed to beat the Rangers (a recent bogey team) to take a clean sweep of round 1 and secure 1st place. Rangers have really improved their team play over the last couple seasons and with their pace are now a genuine A grade premiership threat. Both teams had similar game plans, maintain tight D, work the ball into attack, maintain posession and work a good shot on goal with screeners in place to deflect shots or grab rebounds. Both teams executed their game plans well and hence scoring chances were tough to get and not converted. With 9 minutes on the clock Steve Larter recieved the ball from nathan Lawler and banged a shot on net. The screeners did their job and the ball snuck through under the keeper, 1-0 Druids. Just 2 minutes later Saxon found space breaking into the Rangers zone, drawing the defence he found Damian Colyer running through, who beat one and roofed the shot. 2-0 Druids. A couple of fast break opportunites for Rangers were broken down by some good keeping and effectice back checking which meant the half time score was 2-0 Druids. Druids in the break decided to tighten things up with their 2 goal lead and make sure Rangers were allowed no more fast breaks. The safer defence meant Rangers had more ball but were always confronted by a tight zone D which nullified their teams speed. Things were looking good for Druids until a defensive error with the goalie way out of his creae saw the ball fall to Liam Golding unmarked with the ball with a wide open net. Normally this is a gimmie goal, however we are talking about Liam Golding here, the cause of the infection known as Liamitus. The strange effects of this disease cause the infected to lose all coordination when confronted by an empty net and miss the easy goal... Liam must have been up to date with his booster shots cause he struck the shot sweetly into the centre of the net. 2-1 Druids with 8 minutes to go. Druids further tightened their defence and mantained some posession of their own to run out the clock. 2-1 Druids going though round 1 of the Winter 2007 season undefeated. Druids opening up a handy 5 point buffer over the rest of the field. Just three points seperates 2nd to 5th !!

Blacktown Butchers vs. Richmond Ravens by
Sam Boer scored first for Ravens sneaking the ball past a screened keeper. 1-0 half time Ravens. Ravens scored first in the 2nd half, Krys Lockhart belting one home with 8 minutes to go. Butchers replied 2 minutes later through Peter Yabsley. Despite having the best of the play Butchers couldnt equalise and Ravens held on for their first win of the season.

Team Ice Bucket Relent - Macklin allowed to Play
Tigers vs. Team IceBucket by Liam Golding
Okay then, Everybody, listen up. I'm going to hell. Who's coming with me? Somebody please help him - I think our Chris's gone crazy. No, really. He went and scored three goals for us in our game against the young upstarts from Tigers. Since when does Chris do anything like that? And how am I, (or anyone else in our team,) supposed to live with that now? I mean, it wasn't like the rest of us didn't try. I personally screwed up a great chance one on one with their keeper, (not to take anything away from his abilities though,) and at one (brieft) time, we had a double power play, but their defence held solid and they went in to the half time break with the one - nil lead courtesy of a rocket attack that left one ball wedged in behind the post in our goal. I will claim to have done all the hard work when we got a goal back on the Tigers though, because it was my superior flick over the top to Chris - when I was way down by our blue line - that caused the goal. It was no difficult task at all for Chris to run the length of half an ice rink, fall over in his trademark fashion, and still put the ball in the net. After that, the mind goes a little dark... I know that they scored again, and then we (Chris,) rescored again. Then we had overtime. I think we did alright here, because we actually held onto the ball well. Well, that is, until I got a rush of blood and took a pot shot that didn't, despite my silent chant of I think I can, I think I can. Soon after that, I buggered off, 'cause I was looking for a dunces corner to go to. Bry, (Plays for Rangers and is TIBs #1 fan (they wont let him play,)) had actually returned to the fold, and was playing this game, (though I would have mentioned him if he'd done cool stuff.) Well anyway, he went and gave Chris the ball with about 45 seconds to go, and then let Chris go and do his thing, and so we won 3 - 2 with 26 seconds left on the clock. Not in the least an exciting and energy using / pain inducing game, it makes about three overtime games for us from five played. (We like to get our money's worth.)

Ice Devils vs. Phoenix by Saxon Hooper
Ice Devils have really improved this season, their structure and confidence improving every game. Up against Phoenix this week they started well with early pressure which eventually paid off. A flip pass to a breaking Josh Smith who beat the keeper with agood shot made it 1-0 Ice Devils 10 in. A grader count - Saxon +1, Sam 0, Dane 0. 1-0 half time. Just after the half Marc Kuipers slid in for a tackle and took out a Phoenix player putting Phoenix on a power play. Just 30 seconds into the power play Damian Colyer scored for Phoenix, making it 1-1 17 minutes to go. A grader count - Saxon +1, Sam 0, Dane -1. Both teams had plenty of chances over the next 13 mminutes but neither could convert. Good keeping by both teams to keep the status quo. With 4 to go Saxon Hooper took the ball deep in defence, hogged it all the way out beating several tacklers, took it into attack, and put a shot on goal. With the forecheck setting up made the sub with Dane.. As Dane got on the ice good forecheck pressure saw Josh Yabsley score for Ice Devils. Dane was unlucky to be on for the power play defence, but got luck being on ice for the 2nd goal. A grader count - Saxon +1, Sam 0, Dane 0. With only a minute on the clock Kieran McDonald let Phoenix in with a chance, giving away a high broom penalty and giving phoenix a power play for the last 60 seconds. Ice Devils held on.. 2-1, good win for the Devils.

Raptors vs. The Penguins by Davin Harvey
Monday night, graveyard shift, Raptors vs Penguins. There weren't a lot of players up for it, Raptors with the 1 sub and Penguins with enough to take the ice. This week saw Marvin Dossi's (Italian Superstar) debut in the Raptors jersey, and he was out to impress. Game kicked off and with Raptors holding possession for the first 15mins they were looking to keep Penguins out of the game. First goal came from the young Italian 6mins in, good low hard shot finding the back of the net, Shannon Vost picking up the assist. 2nd goal mid-way through the half, once again Shannon Vost combining this time with Louis Sultana to get one in the back of the net. A good lead and total domination of possession and Raptors were riding high, but as they say 'What goes up....'. Under 2mins to go in the 1st half and a lapse in the Raptors defence saw Daniel Wong 1-1 with the keeper. Keeper managed to slow the shot, however with Raptors and Penguins scrambling to the ball, it was Daniel Wong who was able to get in the back of the net. 2-1 Raptors into the half. 2nd half saw Raptors contine to retain a lot of possession, Penguins holding out the Raptors onslaught and once again Daniel Wong making the break and 1-1 was able to get a clean back hand shot away. 2-2 momentum shifting in Penguins favour. The deadlock was broken 5mins, Marvin Dossi stepping up again with a magic run from half way taking on most of the Penguins and getting a far-post flick shot on the keeper. 3-2 Raptors....Could this be it? 8 minutes has never seemed so long in Broomball, however Raptors continued to pile on the attack and hold Penguins attack, continuing to give them very few opportunities until the final buzzer. 3-2 Raptors, and the first win of the season on the board. Some great form shown in the last few weeks from the Raptors and I look forward to seeing this continue.

Devil Knights Lay the Smack Down
Flat Whites vs. ice Bogans by Josh Yabsley
Tthe game started of with possession going towards Flat Whites but they could not convert. The Ice Bogans struck a bit of luck when a penalty shot was called in their favour. Josh Newell ran in and took a big shot but the shot just floated above the goals. The half finished nil all. The Ice Bogans lifted their game in the scond half and put together some good passages of play but the Flat Whites had all the answers. Late in the second hlf the Flat Whites put together a team goal that was enough to win the game 1-0. Well played Ice Bogans.

Snow Cones vs. Devil Knights by Kieran McDonald
Finally the season is underway!!!!! Unfortunately for Snow Cones, the Devil Knights came out firing scoring 2 goals within the first 5 minutes. The first to Marc Kuipers assisted by Chris Edwards, the second by Kieran assisted by Marc to be a great start to the game. Four minutes later Steve Sevil, a newcomer, went in for his debut goal unassisted. The Snow cones picked up their defence at this point and were making good plays when they managed to get a breakaway only to be stopped by a lucky save by the DK goalie. The ball changed hands a fair bit and DK captain had a massive dummy spit claiming the ref wasnt paying attention and being one sided, meanwhile DK player Pearce found himself with the ball with a minute left on the clock, took it up and graciously passed to mark to slot it home. Half time Devil Knights 4 nil. The second half started much the same to the first half with 3 mins in Chris making a breakaway with Pearce to have a 2 on 1 with the goalie, Chris passed the ball to Pearce to put it passed to make the score 5. Once again it slowed down as SC picked up their game again and held DK out for 5 minutes before marc got his hat trick with 12 minutes to go. With 6 minutes to go it looked like Chris was going to get his first goal only to be denied by Kieran who was screening the keeper and got a deflection to put it into the bottom corner of the goals. Just over a minute later Kieran went through unassisted to complete his hat trick putting the game into mercy rule with 4 minutes to go. SC managed to get a goal in the last four minutes of the game but unfortunately too little too late for it to count. Well played Snow Cones, the score didnt reflect on how hard you guys have improved since your first game. I look forward to our next meeting as I believe you will be a much stronger team.

Rangers on Fire !!
Penrith City Rangers vs. Blacktown Butchers by Daniel Wong
The first game of A grade tonight saw the Rangers up against the newly named Butchers. Most of the first half was quite tight with the Rangers with their new strategy of actually holding onto the ball and passing it around the defence working well. The first goal went to the Rangers when Liam Golding screaming for a ball got a pass from James Kristof for a one timer into the bottom right corner of goal. The Rangers second goal came 5 minutes later when a scramble in front of the goal, which left Butchers and Rangers sprawled everywhere, gave Daniel Wong an easy flick into an open net. (From an unselfish pass from Luke Simmonds which was not attributed to him on the scoresheet. Thanks Simmo!). One minute later with 34 seconds to go, Louis Sultana stole the ball from Golding and outpaced him to score his now trademark hand thingy move. There was less action in the 2nd half with the game slowing down and as a result only one goal being scored by mr. everywhere-at-once, Liam Golding. FINAL SCORE 3 1 to the Rangers. Special mention to go to Helen Smith who played her first official game for the Rangers!

Werrington County Sonics vs. Richmond Ravens by John Howard (aka Jason Wheeler)
My fellow Australians, Id love to say that this game was 5-5 or even 1-1 but it was a scoreless scrap-fest. Both teams have some history, what that history is exactly Ive no idea as I havent been briefed yet. What I do know is that the opposition leader is a doody face who eats his own boogers and that Steve Waugh is my illegitimate son, and those are the real issues. This season, the Sonics are aiming for quality over quantity, selecting 6 players and a fill-in keeper. Sonics are known for their sliding defence, which most teams struggle to break down. Tonight was an exception, yet no goals were scored. The Ravens had the best opportunities but failed to convert. The Sonics tried hard but took too many low percentage shots when they should have maintained possession (even the referees agreed). OT was little better, only the defensive efforts of Tim Brown rescued a draw with seconds to spare.

Where does the Bucket Go ?
The Penguins vs. Team IceBucket by Mr T.(aka Jason Wheeler)
It is said that nobody likes a loser, and that an ungracious loser is even more despicable. Yet, it is also said that winners are also losers who just happened to get lucky and will lose next time. Last week my son, Mr T Jnr, decided that he would learn to play soccer. I consider this to be a sport for losers and fools. I shaved his mohawk and confiscated his bling, hes playing broomball now. Even though this gripping game culminated in a draw, every player must consider themself to be a loser of the highest calibre. Personally, I dont hate either team for wasting my time but I do pity the fools. When asked my prediction for the game, I paused, not because I needed to find a dictionary to define prediction but I was genuinely undecided. My prediction was PAIN and lots of it. To make this clear I punched the reporter in the goolies, he wont be having children anytime soon. The Penguins had won the last 8 encounters against Team Ice Bucket, the most recent being a 1-0 Grand Final victory. On form, this game belonged to the Penguins, the holders of the Penguins-Buckets Trophy. There was some excellent ball movement by both teams for the duration of the game, which turned into a battle of wills. Some sloppy finishing marred the spectacle but both teams defended robustly. Sensational goalkeeping from both keepers, particularly Penguins star Chris Helderman (Safety Chips) defused every decent attacking raid thrown at them. Overtime was lifeless and an OT draw for the Buckets is not uncommon. The Penguins havent been drawn at the end of OT in a looooong time. Both teams went the distance, with a split decision resulting in a draw. Mr T appears courtesy of Bling Bling Management Inc (and is available for childrens parties).

Tigers vs. Raptors by Davin Harvey
Monday night saw a huge effort from the young Raptors. Game started out with Tigers getting a great run, very few shots on goals but managing to bury 3 in the first half leaving the Raptors looking dumbfounded since they held a lot more possession and were putting together some great attack. 3-0 half time, could Raptors reply, many probly doubted us. The 2nd half saw our first goal about 10mins in, with Louis Sultana hunting down the ball with strong forechecking, got the turn over and headed for goal. A good hard shot from in close gave the keeper little reaction time, 3-1 Tigers. Raptors continued to dominate attack and some solid defence where required broke down the Tigers early, keeping them at bay for now. 2nd goal came from a break away, good early ball from the back, Tigers all subbing at once leaving no defence and a straight run for Davin Harvey. Quick recovery from one of the Tigers subs though pressured well just in front of goals and forced Davin to turn and shoot from a harder angle, ball finished low in the back corner of the net, 3-2 Tigers. Raptors continued the attack, though the legs were getting heavier and time running out. With just over 1min to go Aaron Parker hussled well in the slot Louis Sultana getting the ball in and 'The Animal' finishing it off. No idea how it got in the back of the net, there were bodies everywhere! Who cares, it was on the board and Aaron was rewarded for his great efforts throughout the game. Time was quickly run down after that, Raptors pressuring but couldn't put the nail in the coffin with such little time left. To OT, Raptors again holding most of the possession, no legs whatsoever on the girls but still doing great to get up over half way and push the Tigers defence. Time ran down with Raptors getting a few shots off, unfortunately a Tiger body always getting thrown in front of it, and some late dirty play from the Tigers held us to a draw, Sally Yabsley leading the way as usual. Hats off to the Raptors team, was an amazing effort to come back as we did. Nowhere near the lineup the Tigers hold, we stood tall and with a lot of heart, brought home a draw. Look forward to next week.

Ice Devils vs. Huskies by Saxon Hooper
Huskies definately started the stronger, dominating posession, territory and thus shots on goal. The pressure soon paid off with Jason Hall getting the ball unmarked in front of the net and slotting it home through keeper Kieran McDonald. Sam Boer going -1 for the A graders on Ice Devils. 1-0 Huskies 10 to go in the 1st half. With 5 to go in the half Pearce Van de Pol forced a turn over, his pass found Dane Hansen in front of the net one on one with the keeper. A nice left handed hand thingy and the scores were 1-1. Sam Boer -1, Dane Hansen 1, Saxon Hooper 0. 1-1 half time. 2nd Half was an even affair with both teams striving for a result. Josh Smith in his maiden season of broomball got some good shots away for Devils, but no joy. Seven minutes into the half a face off win deep in attack found it's way to Josh Yabsley, who laid it off to Pearce van De Pol who slotted a tight pass to Saxon in front of the net. A hard shot to the right of the keeper found the goals for a 2-1 lead for Devils. Sam Boer -1, Dane Hansen 1, Saxon Hooper 1. Despite some good chances for Huskies, Ice Devils held on for the win moving them into 4th on the ladder.

New Rules For The 2007 Season
New Rule 1:The rink has added neutral ice centre dots for us. So for this season and going forward we will adopt the correct IFBA rule for neutral ice face offs and have them in the middle of the rink. The dot is only fairly small but it is there.

New Rule 2: All players need to sign new membership and waiver forms this season. Even if you have signed 24 of them before.

New Rule 3: If you are using kit gear you need to bring a clean towel (ie the same towel in your kit bag unwashed each week isnt classed as a clean towel), with the towel after you have used either/both helmets and shin guards you are to wipe your sweat from them before putting them back. Your playing shirt or undershirt you just played in doesnt count as a clean towel. Gear to go back in correct buckets/bags dry please.

New Rule 4: We will not accept excessive amounts of coin for game fees, preferrably you have no coin, it isnt hard to change money before you get to the rink, it really makes banking difficult and time consuming. So NO silver and maybe a few goldies, nothing more, PLEASE. $90 in notes !! THANK YOU !!

New Rule 5: Game fees are $90. It isnt the committee's fault 1/2 your team didnt show, or one of your team went home without paying again, Game Fees are $90, either go get the extra money, or borrow it off someone, but pay the $90.. Part game fees not accepted, no game fees result in a forfeit.

Reminder 1: Players bringing new players make sure they know to bring a towel, long pants (no shorts) and that they fill out the membership/waiver forms before playing.

Reminder 2: Kit Gear is not to leave the rink. No hoarding gear, you must leave the gear at the rink in the correct gear bags after you have used it. Taking kit gear home deprives other players its use. So use the gear, it is free to use, put it back for others after you have finished (after wiping it with a towel). If you feel the need to take it home, buy your own !

Which brings us to request 1: Would really like ALL the A & B teams to pay up front for the season this season advantage is you get a $5 per game discount, dont have to worry about game fees for the season and man it is just way way easier (note scratch match and finals dont count in the prepayment).. So 12 round games x $85 = $1020 per team due by week 3 of the competition, $100-$115 per player up front may seem a fair bit, but you are clear of paying for games until June and you dont get short changed when your team mates dont show !! If you have players that will probably only play 1/2 the games work it out based on them paying for 6 games etc. The option will be also avaliable to C grade, however until we know the exact amount of teams we cant set the price.

A Division - Week 3
A Grade Hotting Up !!
Penrith City Rangers vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
Penrith City Rangers looked good in this game, they controlled posession and didnt give up too much in defence. However you have to be good to crack the Sonics defence and Rangers struggled to crack it despite the weight of posession and territory. The only goal of the game came late in the first half when Luke Simmonds missed timed a pass and put it directly to Sonic Kerry Baxter. Kerry trapped the ball, and took the shot and put it away. 1-0 Sonics half time. Rangers had more chances in the 2nd half but still couldnt find the net and Sonics ran out the time for their first win of the season. 1-0 Sonics.

Blacktown Butchers vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
Solid start to the season for Druids knocking off both of last seasons grand finalists. Druids also welcomed South Australian import Alana Bracken to the team. Butchers neeNinjas with a new look speedier outfit looking to build on their oT win against last year premiers. Good game of broomball this one, both teams respecting posession, and playing tight zone D when they didnt have it. The tight D and some good saves meant it took 16 minutes to put a goal on the board. Damo Colyer found Saxon Hooper and with a 1 hand shot, Con Sourlangos style, beat a well screened keeper. 1-0 Druids half time. Butchers hit back early in the 2nd with a goal to Davin Harvey, assisted by Lauren Goulden and Andrew Chapman. A turnover while Butchers were in attack had Damian Colyer passing to a breaking Saxon Hooper, who found a bust of speed to beat the last defenders and slot home the goal. 2-1 Druids with eight minutes to go. A silly high stick penalty saw Damian Colyer in the sin bin and Butchers on a Power Play. Butchers did well to secure posession and worked their shot, with Peter Yabsley beating the keeper. 2-2 five minutes to go. Both teams playing well this game was certaintly going down to the wire. A tripping penalty on Andrew Chapman saw druids on a power play for the last minute of the game. Only some last line Butchers defence denying Alana Bracken and Linda Bell scrambling one in. So 2-2 full time and into OT. Druids started OT a player up and had the early domination of posession. However Butchers held firm and Davin Harvey joined the fray. Some patient posession and good shots nearly gave Druids the win, however Butchers got the stop and posession and it was their turn to set up in offence. Again the defence was tight and a forced pass lead to a turn over to Saxon Hooper, who completed his hat trick with a flip into the vacant goals from the blue line. 3-2 OT win for Druids. Really good game to play.

Many Tigers get Over Phoenix
Huskies vs. Phoenix by Andrew Chapman
3rd week into the comp, and Phoenix are looking really good. After a loss last week to the Tigers and their 15 subs, we played Huskies this week - who had no subs. Phoenix started on fire, dominating possession for the first few minutes. Eventually Phoenix scored with a passing play covering two thirds of ice, for Damo to slot one home. Huskies scored one, however it wasn't for my team, so I can't remember the details too well. I think Simmo ran past me up the boards, so I've wiped the bad experience from memory. There might have also been a Phoenix deflection. Second goal for Phoenix came from a loose ball in front of the Huskies goal. I dived and took a swing, somewhat resembling the last part of a hand-thingy. Ball in the bottom corner of the net to put Phoenix up 2-1. Phoenix's third goal was from Damo, bagging his second for the night. We played a really nice game after that, lots of awesome defence from Joel and Jo. Matt, Jason and Christy are really getting their feet, with lots of attacking pressure, winning many 1 on 1's around the ice. Jason forgot about his stick and used his hand to score what should have been Phoenix's fourth goal, but unfortunately the ref spotted it and the goal was disallowed. Then about a minute from full time Simmo made a nice run from the side boards, past 2 Phoenix players and made an easy flick into the back of the net to make the final score 3-2 to Phoenix. A bit disappointing to concede a goal so close to full time, but still an awesome team effort from Phoenix to get the points.

Tigers vs. The Penguins by Jason Wheeler
In the wild, a person wouldn't expect a Penguin to survive with a Tiger. But since Tigers and Penguins live in completely different climates there has never been an official study or documentary to prove this. To conduct such an experiment would be senseless andcruel, but good for TV. The Penguins cruised to an easy win last night, thanks largely to their experience and patience. The Tigers seem to be relishing the challenge of B Grade with wins in their opening two games and their long bench has been a strong contributor. Despite this, they appear to have compromised their structure by making countless substitutions, but I suppose everyone deserves a run. They must have the cheapest match fees in the competition. The Penguins brought in two new players plus a fill-in to have one sub. About 10 minutes into the game, James Delfs (formerly Delphs) scored his first goal in this, only his 3rd broomball match. He's been studying broomball from the sidelines for the past two years so it's great that he learnt something during that time. 5 minutes from half time, Daniel Wong (the man with the $6000 stick.. COME ON!!!) ran around the Tigers goal and scored from a flick shot for a 2-0 half time lead to the Penguins. The second half saw a much improved effort from the Tigers who held the Penguins scoreless. The Tigers played more like Tasmanian Tigers than than other non-extinct species of Tigers as The Penguins keeper was only forced to make two saves. But we're not complaining, two is plenty. The Penguins are looking forward to the rematch, when I'm sure the Tigers will have gone up a few gears and should be the most improved team by season's end. The Penguins ran out victors by 2-0.

Raptors vs. Team IceBucket by Alex Crook
When the Buckets and Raptors meet, the game is always a challenge for both teams and this one was to be no exception. The Raptors came out strongly in the beginning of the first half and had the majority of possession. Strong defense by the Buckets kept the Raptors scoreless. A perfect Liam breakaway midway through the 1st half gave the Buckets a much needed goal. Soon after Chris followed, deflecting in one in himself. Although 2 goals up in the 2nd half, the Buckets still had to withstand some very strong attack by the Raptors and the keeper was tested on numerous occasions. Another goal to Liam only seemed to make the Raptors play harder and their tactics change numerous times. Russell copped a hard hit across the collar bone in one of these heated exchanges and was forced off. However, the Raptors were unable to break through and were again beaten by the Buckets attack when Chris took the score to 4-0. A score which reflected how well the Buckets played, but not how hard they were challenged by the Raptors.

Druids Get Past Ravens, Butchers in OT
Blacktown Butchers vs. Werrington County Sonics by Davin Harvey
Butchers off to a good start to the season notching up an OT win against the Sonics. Good end to end game, both teams with plenty of opportunities just struggled to finish them off. Both teams even until OT. Butchers held all possession in OT, really only lasting 1min when some good screening from Gemma kept the Sonics defence distracted and Peter Yabsley put the ball away with a good hard shot from the blue line. The assist from Shannon Vost. Good scrambling defence shown from the Butchers, our structure in both attack and defence will come. Looking forward to next week.

Richmond Ravens vs. Glenmore Park Druids by Saxon Hooper
The new look Druids outfit went into this game vs Ravens with confidence after knocking off last years premiers Sonics. Ravens always like their chances against Druids and were looking to keep the game fast. Druids started well taking control of the early posession and territory. Good forechecking meant the ball was down 1 end a lot of the time. Some good shots on goal nearly beat the keeper, but the rebound or dribble out the back was covered quickly keeping the score at 0-0. With 9 to go in the first some forechecking pressure lead to a turn over and with the Ravens going forward, Damo Colyer was through them and 1-1 with the keeper. A shot and it squeezed through somehow, 1-0 Druids. Just before 1/2 time Damo Colyer completed his double, assisted by Kosta Sourlas and Ryan Findlayson. A penalty just on half time against Sally Yabsley for Ravens yielded nothing for Druids. 2-0 Druids at the half. Druids were doing well and looking comfortable until Kosta Sourlas was penalised for high broom. Ravens got the posession in attack and had some good shots on goal, however the Druids power play defence held. Penalty killed. Just a couple minutes later Kosta was in the bin again for tripping giving Ravens another chance. Again well killed by Druids. With a full compliment of players and the pressure on Ravens to score, Druids saw out the time and completed the 2-0 win. Druids looking good after knocking off last years premiers and runners up in successive weeks.

Many Tigers get Over Phoenix
Ice Devils vs. Raptors by Saxon Hooper
Ice Devils were on the board first with a fast break converted by Ice Devil speedster Josh Yabsley. Soon after it was another Josh on the board for Ice Devils with Josh Smith in his B grade debut deflecting a Saxon Hooper cross into the net. Nothing the keeper could have done about this point blank shot. Still it was a great start to the broomball career of Josh Smith who hasnt even played a real C grade game yet with his newly formed team the Snow Cones. Raptors picked it up a gear and were probably unlucky to go into the 1st half 2-0 down. More of the same for Raptors in the 2nd half, with Davin Harvey, Louis Sultana, James Ray and Martin Sultana using their pace well to create good chances, just unfortunately unable to convert them. With only a minute thirty to go Marc Kuipers iced the game with a goal. Ice Devils looked to finish the game on a high with a Raptors pressing, a turn over and break away had a 2 on none set up with the keeper. The keeper was drawn, the pass given and with the net wide open, no keeper in sight, Josh Yabsley caught the dreaded disease Samitus. As the nausea took him, he wobbled, his vision blurred and doubled, he loosened his grip on the stick as the fever grabbed him and took aim at one of the two sets of blury goals his dieased vision picked up. Unfortunately for him he chose the wrong set and the ball went wide of the real set. Terrible terrible disease Samitus. This left the score 3-0 for Ice Devils.

Huskies vs. Team IceBucket by Saxon Hooper
Huskies were all late and as the game was meant to start only had three players. Soon their players began to arrive and the game got underway. Midway through the first half Luke Simmonds aka Schmoo scored for Huskies. 1-0 half time. With time running out and a win looking likely for Huskies, Liam Golding found Russell Gregory who scored to tie the game away. 1-1 full time and into OT. OT was exciting however it didnt produce a result. 1-1 end of OT, these teams sharing the points.

Tigers vs. Phoenix by Sally Yabsley
Go the mighty Tigers! Second game in to the season and we are doing well. Pheonix put up a great fight, Damo in fine form scored a great goal leaving the score 1-0 to Phoenix at half time. Craig Sadler answered for Tigers 6 minutes into the 2nd half. A great cross to craid then he ran past the goal and back hand flicked the ball in to the corner pocket. WOW that training on Sunday did great things! The second Goal from the Tigers Was one of those nail biting scrambles in front of goals. I think about 6 shots were taken and taken and taken, but the goalie didn't freeze the ball so the Tigers kept trying and finaly a GOAL. The Pheonix put forward a fast game and the Tigers were glad for the 6 subs. Well played by both teams. Keep up the great work! 2-1 Tigers, undefeated in B grade.

A Division - Week 1
1 Goal is Enough
Glenmore Park Druids vs. Werrington County Sonics by Saxon Hooper
First game of the season with both teams having a bit of a new look. Druids welcomed ex-Ninjas Ryan Findlayson and Linda Bell and from the draft picked Phoenix's Katie Robson. In the off season they lost Tim Ollerton, Katie Laybutt and Lauren Goulden, all long serving members of Druids. Sonics also had some team roster changes. Out Ben Robson off to live in China with his brother Matt. In from the draft Jason Wheeler and Josh Drinkall (who ended up not playing because of some sunburn on his shins). So even though there was a heap of changes to both teams it actually ended up a fairly typical Sonics vs Druids game. Druids with a lot of controlled possession in attack, Sonics with an iron clad zone D threatening to break away and score. The firat half only yielded a few chances, yet none were converted, 0-0 halftime. Although just on the half John Skiadas was called for a high stick putting Druids on the power play. From the face off to start the second half Druids won poession and took it into attack and set up their power play offence. A few nice passes to draw the defence saw Saxon Hooper down low with a shot on goal, with screeners and rebounders in position the ball squeezed through for the first goal of the A grade season. 1-0 Druids just 1 minute into the 2nd half. Shortly after Druid Steve Larter picked up a obstructive fall penalty to put Sonics on a power play. It was well killed by the Druids power play defensive team. With both teams back at full strength the status quo returned and the game ebbed and flowed from end to end. Good forechecking pressure and patient offence meant the ball spent good periods of time at either end. As time ran down Druids milked posession and held out some late desperate attempts by Sonics. Both teams played well considering the amount of changes to their teams. A good start to the season for Druids 1-0 over Sonics.

Richmond Ravens vs. Penrith City Rangers by James Kristof
There's nothing like an overtime game in the first week of the season when everyone has absolutely no match fitness. And thus after a tightly fought 40 minutes, where both Ravens and Rangers had only a few real opportunities to score, it was 0-0 at full time. From the outset of overtime Ravens looked the most likely to score, taking advantage of their enormous bench from throughout the game, looking the freshest and dominating possession and territory. That was until Daniel Wong got on a fast break, ending up in a one-on-one situation with the Ravens OT keeping powerhouse, Sara Kristof, only to decide to do about four different moves at once, thus easily fooling Sara, but also himself, managing to fall whilst shooting and feebly flicking the ball straight into Sara, who also had fallen just before Daniel had. And so Ravens took control again, only to be denied on at least 300 consecutive shots by Rangers OT keeper, Shallon Williams, before Liam Golding spread the ball to a flying Luke Simmonds, who took on the Ravens defence, running right along the boards, over the halfway line, over the blue line, leaving himself about a 10 degree angle with Sara Kristof between him and the goal, upon which Simmo flicked the ball over Sara's head and landed it in the back of the net. Rangers coming out on top 1-0 in OT. p.s. thank god I looked at the broomball website on tuesday night to see that I had to do a write-up - hooray for duty points!

B Division - Week 1
Tigers over Huskies on Debut
Huskies vs. Tigers by Sally Yabsley
What a welcome to B grade, a fast paced game with many many shots on goal. Nathan Lawler scored first for Huskies with a long range attempt. From there game was filled with huskies close shots only to find the goal post and bounce out. This kept us in the game before Tigers newby Ryan Findlayson scored our 1st goal to bring us back even with 10 minutes to go in the game. Our 2nd goal was by our youngest player Oliver Smith just 2 minutes later. A great run and a smooth assist from Ben Irmish and Goal from Oli. This was a fun fast Game just what you want 1st week in to the season. Go the Tigers Well done Huskies. Final score 2-1 Tigers.

Team IceBucket vs. Phoenix by Andrew Chapman
Phoenix had their usual great start to the season, in a highly anticipated match against Ice Bucket. We were missing goal scoring freak Krys and defending extraordinaire Joel, but we welcomed Ladies World Challenge Cup champion Jo Mitchell into the Phoenix fold. As with any clash between these teams, lots of fast breaks down the boards were the norm. Not much happened at the end of them, but they happened anyway because we need to lose those Christmas kilos. Bucketeer Liam seemed to be a bit off his game, preferring to spend a lot of time in a defenSive position. Looks like those match fixing allegations have made him a bit cautious. There were lots of shots by Damo from the blue line (they're his favourite - minimal effort required), who was playing well in a defensive position, but we all know that it's hard to get anything by the Buckets keeper, so we had to rely on a 1 on 1 between Matt and the keeper to get one in. Special mention to me, because I passed him the ball. Buckets had a few runs and had a few shots, but they were similar to Damo's from the blue line, and were easily stopped by our keepers. Then phoenix had their turn, etc. This went on for a while, and then a bit longer after that. Not much else happened, there were no other serious threats on goal from either team other than a few scrambles. Good defence in the last few minutes from Phoenix kept the final score 1-0 to Phoenix.

Ice Devils vs. The Penguins by Jason Wheeler
2007 began with a BANG for the Penguins, staving off a strong Ice Devils outfit. Ice Devils were well led by Saxon Hooper and Sam Boer, providing several would-be assists but failed to capitalise. The scrambling Penguins defence made life difficult for the Devils and Tim Roffey in goals celebrated his 100th B-Grade game in style, making several sensational saves. The game started slowly as both teams tried to remember which end of the stick is for hitting and which end is for holding onto. (Ask Saxon if there are any double ended sticks on the market or make your own). As soon as that was sorted, the game opened up with some exciting end-to-end play. Half way through the first half Jason Wheeler found himself in some space, and SCORED from a tight angle (3m out and 8m to the side). This is proof that if you take enough shots, one will eventually go in and stay in. In the second half, there were a few defensive lapses by the Penguins defence (passing across goal to unmarked attackers), but fortunately these went unpunished. Saxon and Sam were well marked and many of their shots hit the post or barely drifted wide. On a different night, the score could have been anything. Towards the end both teams began to tire and began turning over possession with a few miscued passes and intercepts. This was a tough game for both sides, and one that the Penguins are relieved to have won.
